I was a regular seller for a couple years. I would come in every few days with a large buy of kids clothing that I "flipped." I spent many hours pretreating, washing, folding and pressing these clothes so that they were visually appealing to your customers. It was hard work, but I enjoyed it.. and as a disabled veteran and single mother, it was a way to make ends meet. I would often communicate with management, asking what sizes and or products they were most interested in. It was a good business relationship that was mutually beneficial. I was even introduced to the owner. Several times I was offered a job which I had to decline because I'm not able to work scheduled shifts simply because of the unpredictability of my medical disability. After a while, the buys became less and less and I encountered a lot of negative and sometimes aggressive attitudes from employees who did not want to deal with my large buys. A couple times I was sent away and told to come back in the morning or on someone else's shift. Several times toward the end I lost money. This was very frustrating because I did not have the funds as it was, let alone lose money. There were a couple times that (if it was close) I asked it it were possible to increase the buy by LITERALLY CENTS so that I could break even. If you're going to ask a seller if they are "ok" with the price of the buy, then you should expect the occasional barter. If your buy prices are firm, that should be expressed. Communication is key to good business. Unfortunately, Liz did not get that memo because she very publicly and very loudly humiliated me in front of all the employees and customers. Honestly, all she needed to do was say that price was firm, but she made the decision to make It a hostile situation and that day I left the store in tears because I felt completely humiliated. I made the decision soon after to stop selling after that altercation coupled with the fact that it was no longer profitable. This wasn't the first time I had a negative experience with the staff. Several months prior, there was an instance where I caught a man keying my car as I was parked with my 4-ways right outside the building unloading. I went in the store for help where he followed me and began verbally assaulting me with obscene names. Instead of helping me or calling the police they asked us both to leave. I obliged, but I was quite surprised that nobody seemed to care about my well-being. Up to this point, I kind of felt like I was part of the team, but I learned my place very quickly. Last week I stopped in to purchase a few toys for our new baby grandson who would be visiting. Unfortunately, There was no way they were going to be able to bring the items on the plane with them so we decided to return them. I had the receipt and the items were still in the same condition and packaging that they were purchased in. I had removed the price tags because that is common practice when giving someone a gift. While at the store, I was informed that they would not be able to accept the items without the stickers. One large item in particular didn't even have a sticker just a small piece of paper with one piece of tape attaching it that fell off before I even got it home. I asked to talk to the manager on duty, who was Liz and I already know that she doesn't care for me because of that previous instance when I asked to increase the buy by what I believe was somewhere in the vicinity of 62 cents. Liz informed me that they would be unable to take the returns and even if they did, it would only be for store credit despite the fact that I have the receipt due to a return policy change 2 months prior. She also told me that she made exceptions for me in the past, and she feels that I take advantage of that . What?? Confused, I looked at her and said Liz I haven't even been in here in months. Instead of arguing with her, I decided to just let her say what she wanted to say, and I thanked her anyway. She told me that I could sell the items back to the store as an alternative. I already knew that I wasn't gonna get the $45 that I paid, but I was hoping it would be somewhere close, especially since I added A brand new pack and play in the box, and a new booster seat. When they finish processing the buy, the grand total was a complete shock. The original items that I paid $45 cash on PLUS the added pack and play and booster seat, They were willing to give me the grand total of $27 for everything. For me, this was the final nail in the coffin. I accepted the buy and left. If I was a woman of less class, I would have had a few choice words to say. But I maintained my composure once again, accepted the buy and left. So who exactly is the one taking advantage here? I will never set foot in this place for any reason, ever again. read more

Don't waste time bringing stuff here, brought to boxes of washed, folded, some new clothes and toys and they didn't take anything, even had nerve to tell me it needed washed and some stuff had stains (which was totally not true). They were selling faded clothes and dirty shoes, but my stuff wasn't good enough. Some stuff was even on the list of things they were looking for. My wife and I have not bought anything from this store mainly because we buy everything brand new for our only son. We do, however, keep coming back here to sell our son's gently used items to the store. We've tried a couple of other places but so far this one is hands down the best we can find. The staff are super efficient, both in terms of managing the vast amount of items in a very limited space and reviewing and making offers quickly. Even on a busy Saturday like last weekend, they reviewed and made offers for our 15 items within 30-40 minutes; this compares with Tomorrow's Child on the West Shore which took 5 days to get back to us. They also pays the most generously. Generally for items in good conditions, they would find the retail prices and determine how much they can sell them in their store (normally 50%), then offer to pay us 50% of these prices. Essentially, we get paid about 25% of retail -- can't get much better than this considering how painless the whole process is. We are too lazy to organize a yard sale. We are too afraid to make deals on craigslist. eBay? That's even more work and time consuming, while the shipping costs and other fees erase most of the proceedings. We truly can't think of a better win-win way for getting rid of the items that our son have outgrown. read more

We dont have children yet, but I have been in this place a few times looking for children's items. You can really find some good deals if you dont mind the hand-me-down style of some of the things. They are seriously cheaper than their competitors. Predominantly they have a lot of clothes, in a range of sizes, and many of the things are priced 5.50. theres a back room thats filled only with coats that are varying prices. They gently used toys, clothing, equipment and furniture available. Theyre open usually from 10 am until 8 pm... UPDATE~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 5-15-08 I bought a hanging mobile for my daughters crib, she is so happy when you play it, she just starts dancing right away!!! and it only cost 8 dollars and was very easy to use. read more

I had a bad experience the last several times I went in to shop there. Every time I go in there, the racks are very unorganized. I find many different sizes in one size. I was in there yesterday and had to wait over 10 minutes while there was only one person checking out. The other 4 ladies were chatting and did not realize there were people in line waiting. Jammies should be in their own section of the size instead of having to search in many different sections of that size to search for them. After driving an hour to the store with two bins of expensive clothing that would have sold well in their store, I was told that they had met their sales quota for the day- before 11:30am on a Monday! There was one other person in the store at the time! I have not had many positive experiences before with them because I don't think their prices are fair, but the clothing is too expensive to not want something for it and yard sales are a lot of work. This place is terrible I am out of town went with family and they brought my grandsons toys there to sale v tech name brand and all and said to wait 30 minutes and we came back. Took the toys the wanted to offer 3$ for ? There were multiple new toys and to top it off they STOLE An innocent child's batteries out of his Vtech TOyS I was in such shock a So-called children's store EMPLOYEEs would do such a thing. When I simply asked for the batteries back they said I'm a broke COTTON PICKER and will never be nothing in front of children. The Bosses were Caucasian and husband was in the navy what a travesty. Visited this place because it had nice and clean clothes and reasonable prices and it is very true!! I was happy to find a few jackets and pants for my son today. I was extremely happy with hie this place was organized. It was organized by size, type of clothing and by color. It made easy to find him blue sweatpants in 12 months. I understand they are trying to fit a lot in one store but the aisle are long and very narrow. It was a little challenging trying to walk around while carrying a car seat with a baby. Also, since the aisle are so narrow, there are no carts. It would make things impossible to get around. Lines do get long and that does cause a little bit of a traffic jame towards the middle of the store. read more

I love this store. I've been shopping here for 5 years, since I was pregnant with my first child. It's organized, clean, and so easy to find what you're looking for (except the shoes-they're not organized). The clothes are in good condition and some of them look like new. I love buying my kids used clothes because it's so much cheaper and it helps the environment. It also helps me to not stress about my kids' clothes getting lost or dirty because I know I didn't pay that much for them. Their prices aren't as good as thrift stores, but that's because they pay sellers for their items and only sell things in good condition. This is my favorite place to buy shoes. I was looking for a first pair of shoes for my daughter and I wanted to get Stride Rite brand. They cost up to $50 online but I found a pair at Once Upon a Child for $6.50. And they're adorable! I have bought baby gear, Halloween costumes, Christmas outfits, swimsuits, and hair accessories here too. I have gotten a high chair, pack and play, audio monitors...you name it. I sold clothes to them before. 3 nice size boxes and got $56 for 50 items. Fine, I was ok with that. They were 3 months and down. Ive bought clothes here before as well, and I would recommend spending your money at Burlington or TJMax before wasting time there. I wouldn't even support this place honestly. I went to sell some more clothes, and they tried to cheat me. A pair of $40 polo jeans and they were going to give me $.50 for them to turn around and sell it for like $15. Absolutely not! I don't care about the money, but the thought that they sell it for way more than what they buy it from you for is ridiculous. The jeans were brand new at that. I am going to be taking my baby's clothes to the hospitals to donate and give to people in need for FREE. I'm disappointed in this place. And one last thing, that whole sale thing with everything on clearance being a dollar was a rip off. Everything that was a dollar was raggedy. I found maybe 3 things that were decent. Love the big selection and the organization of this place! I find something new for my daughter every time I go in the store! I just recently sold to them for the first time. I was skeptical at first because of all the reviews I read, but I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome. The girl at the counter explained everything up front since I had never sold to them before. Yes, they are picky when it comes to clothes for little ones (nb-9 mos), which I expected, and didn't mind. I got more than I thought I would for the items that they bought. This place is in a sketchy part of town. Staff was friendly but busy. Felt like the whole place was dirty. The shoes to look through were in terrible condition. The stuff I gave them was brand new. Two never worn stride rites and a working clean paw patrol potty. Got 30 bucks. With additional clean clothes. Would never revisit this place again. Gives me the creeps. Ick! read more

REVISED: Though I hated my first experience in the store, I liked my experience with the manager and how she resolved it. I will give Once Upon a Child another chance because of her. I spoke with the manager, Emily, and she was wonderful to speak with and responded quickly to my review. She was completely understanding of why I felt the way I did after my first experience. I learned more about their process and I was also able to express my concerns as a first time customer. I think we both learned from this experience. I feel like the situation is resolved and my feeling of frustration is gone. Though the situation happened as it did and mistakes were made, I am at peace with the fact my concerns were acknowledged and the manager did everything she could to make things right. I really appreciate our conversation and I do understand there are just off days for all of us. Thank you, Emily, for taking the time to go over everything. I now know the steps I can take as a seller to ensure my peace of mind. For example, I know now that I can request an itemized list for the potential purchase and I can request my outfit sets to not get pulled apart. ORIGINAL COMMENT: Tried this place for the first time this evening. I have never tried to sell items other than at yard sales. This was a horrible first experience. I can't speak about purchasing items. The clothes I brought in were in PERFECT condition, such as no tears, no fading, no stains, no fuzziness, laundered, folded, organized by size and gender. The clothes I noticed looked worn and personally I had no interest in purchasing anything. My rating is based on the lack of process and procedure, professionalism, and communication. Upon arrival I told the associate it was my first time and asked how this works. I brought two tuberware containers, two large boxes, two Luvs diapers ( 1 box & 1 bag), and one pamper box filled with slightly worn clothing. The associate asked for my DL and had me complete my address and phone number with my signature. Done. Then, I was told to come back at 530 pm , but no later than 7 pm. He said go ahead and shop around. I explained I would be back because my newborn and husband are in the car. We ran to Wendy's for a quick dinner and arrived back at 515. Less than 30 minutes later. All my stuff was out if sight, and the associate who assisted me avoided eye contact. I assumed they weren't ready, so we walked around the store. We stood at the "sell counter" and finally someone directed us to the register counter. We waited in line and I still couldn't see my boxes/containers. It was our turn. I said this is our first time can you explain what is next. Asked my last name. Lady places a blue bin on the counter and said we are purchasing 56 items. Okay....Wasn't sure what items, so I asked in the bin? I started to look in the bin and was asked to not pull anything out, or change the pile, due to tagging. I just stopped looking. I asked where my stuff was that they decided not to purchase. My containers and boxes were scattered behind the counter. She slid over one box, then found another. My husband took them to the car. She returned to the counter. I asked where are my two tuberware containers. Oh, asked around again. Girl had them buried under clothes at her station. My husband took them out. My newborn in arms, busy line, in complete confusion, I walked out asking my husband what just happened. Standing in front of the entrance trying to load car, place baby in car seat, and I tried to look in my returned boxes/containers....my stuff was a mess...Couldn't tell what was what...people trying to get in and out, cars, baby crying, cold, exhausted, and completely frustrated....we just left. After arriving home, I checked my stuff. It was worse than I could even imagine. I cannot express my disbelief enough! I had the clothes extremely organized and neat. Size, gender, laid flat, as requested by the business when I called. Separated in containers and boxes. Pairs of shoes in different boxes, clothing placed in different boxes, not folded, not laid flat....just a mess!!! I definitely did not get my one pamper box of items returned at all! Worse, they broke apart outfits. Took tops and not bottoms, vice versa. WHY!?!?! I feel I was ripped off in many ways, excluding the amount of money given for my items (whatever that was). I even bought my 8 year old daughter a gift certificate for her birthday as we both love shopping and putting together outfits! And your employees are so friendly! I've bought a lot of baby clothes here and I have been pretty happy with the prices, quality, and selection. However, I've been very discouraged by my experience of trying to sell gently used items. I was totally unaware of the process they use - including "rules" regarding what they take, whether or not there could be tags on the item, the mobile app they want you to use, etc. I spent a huge amount of time washing, stain treating, and organizing items only to have it dumped in a bag and carted off. Every time I tried to ask a question or clarify something, the employees were very rude and one snapped at me for taking too long (when no one had explained anything about the drop-off process to begin with). When I went back the following day to collect payment, I was criticized for numerous things about the items I had brought and literally given pennies for 30+ preemie items (which they are apparently in desperate need of and had value to me!). I tried to address the rudeness of the employee the day before, and the woman not only didn't apologize, but screamed at me in the middle of the store.
