It's also nice to have a place to bring your old/ unused kiddo items, I think they would also take some adult items if suitable for older kids/ teens. This store is soooooo nice. Especially compared to some of the other OUAC I've been to, particularly in Vancouver, WA. The manager is incredibly professional and friendly, and walked me out to my car with an exersaucer, as I had my hands full with an infant in a stroller. That kind of service, friendliness and compassion towards mothers is so rare nowadays, even in businesses targeted at children and moms. The store is clean, well organized and everything we saw was so fairly priced. I'm so happy I stopped in on my short trip to Salem and I look forward to coming back soon. I've been shopping here since I was first pregnant with my 7-year old. I've also sold some things to them as well. They're very picky about what they'll take because of safety reasons, and such. They also have a customer rewards program that is very easy to rack up and trade in for discounts. It does seem that their store is usually over-flowing with product. But I've found brand new clothes there, with the tags still on! I can walk away with a new wardrobe for my son and only spend $60. Sometimes, getting a decent pair of shoes there is challenging, but for the most part their stuff is great quality! read more

Prices are pretty ridiculous for the quality. The toys had food stuck on them and stains. They didn't even look cleaned off at all and were missing parts. The final straw was when I went up to the counter to buy a hat I had to ask for assistance, even though there were three employees behind the counter and one at the register I went to. She rang me up and didn't tell me a total or anything so when I looked at her she was glaring at me because I hadn't put my card in yet. I'm not sure what the criteria is for selling used clothes here. I was under the impression that the clothes needed to be "gently used" and not "brand new with the tags still on". I have taken my sons clothes here just twice. Each time I left with 90% of the clothes I brought because they "weren't wanted". I assure you that my beast of a son grows out of clothes before they have the chance of experiencing their third wash. At any rate, the second time that I brought in clothes there were several outfits from Macy's with the tags still on them. Brand new, and I was given just a buck or two. For this kind of crap cash and the headache of navigating Lancaster, I'd rather just leave the clothes on my door step and post an add on Craigslist for free clothes. Save gas and pain and just donate the clothes to someone. read more

I actually like this place because of a few things : it is relatively big. You get cash on the spot. They have A huge selection. They are pretty organized and I usually always find something. Especially pajamas. . Now some things I do not like are: it's in Lancaster and the clientele is sometimes scary/trashy. Kids screaming, moms yelling at their kids loudly. The gals that work their continuously are talking to eachother about personal issues. The clothes are packed on the racks so it makes it really hard to look through. Overall I try not to judge this place too hard as it is a second hand children's store, however at the same time I think......ok just because this is a second hand store doesn't mean they can't make improvements and be a bit more classy. Business have to incorporate constant change for their customers. They have to remember it isn't about what they want it's about what the customers are wanting. read more

I wish I could give this place more stars, but they keep disappointing me. It's almost as if I am interrupting the employees when I try to make a purchase. TWICE now I have walked up to the counter to buy items and 3 employees were there, cleaning or talking to each other. I stood and waited and eventually had to ask if I could purchase my items. They seemed annoyed. Is cleaning really more important than collecting money? I wish the manager knew how the employees acted. After the last time I got too annoyed and haven't gone back since. Love this store! I have young children and spend plenty on clothes and toys because they grow so fast so this store helps me save a little money! This is my first place to go with my daughters used things and to buy second hand items. I love this store because they offer cash in hand, they have a huge selection of items for both sexes from newborn to size 12 or 14. The majority of the items are in great condition and are steals of deals. And when the seasons change you can get killer deals with the clearance section. I get expensive name brand clothing for a dollar each which helps since kids never seem to grow as you expect so if something doesn't fit the next season then it's not a big financial loss. The not so great side of the store is bad lighting do to cramped quarters of clothing wracks. Many people come with there herd of children that run around unsupervised and are very loud regardless of the staff telling them to not run. And the sales staff can get a bit chatty with each other. However, they have gotten better the last few times I've come in and they know where everything is and how it works which helps when you are unsure of how something folds out or up. read more

We're moving, so I took all of my son's non-fitting clothes into OUAC to see if I could get a few bucks. I called first to find out exactly what types of items they were accepting. A woman (the manager) told me that they wanted small, medium and large kids clothing. So, I took about 25 pieces of clothing (medium and large), most of it gently used, and was told there would be a 15 minute wait while they looked at it. After I came back, they said they wouldn't accept ANY of the items. I understand supply and demand, and I understand a merchant's right to pick and choose as they please. My complaint is that I called specifically to find out what they accept; I packed only the things they mentioned, in the condition they mentioned (all washed, and folded), and still walked out with the same amount of clothing as I came in with. In fact, a young woman at the counter told me the clothes were all "too big"; I told her that the woman I previously spoke to told me that they were looking for the exact type of items I brought in. The young woman apologized and suggested I take the clothing to Plato's Closet. The two young women at the counter were very kind and professional. They didn't make me feel as if what I brought in was 'trash', etc., just that they couldn't use it because the sizes were too big. I was treated well by the employees there. However, I think the communication between customers and the manager(s) could be much better, or at least much more definitive. read more

I went to once upon a child to sell some children's toys and I have been buying and selling here for 7 years. All of the customer service associates were grouchy and short and lack customer service skills and seem incredibly burned out with their jobs, it wasn't a transaction it was like them doing me favor and I was inconveniencing them. When I questioned pricing I was treated horribly in front of a full line of people. It was a take it or leave it attitude. The store also smelled musty and is overcrowded. Every time we go in here we have an awesome experience. The people who work here are awesome, especially Justine! She's the reason we keep coming back. We bring trades in too, hardly used items. Things we've purchased from there and traded back in a week later because we couldn't use it. We always get an itemized receipt too. Today, unfortunately ruined all of those experiences. The owner of this store is incredibly rude and snotty and talked to us when we asked for an itemized receipt as though we were just annoying customers and she had to deal with people like us constantly. I do not appreciate being treated like not a valued customer. I have spent so much money in this store and now I will be looking elsewhere for my child's stuff. Today they didn't even give me a dollar per item. I bought a $20 diaper bag from them 2 weeks ago and brought it back and they usually give me half of what they sell it for and they didn't even give me a dollar for the diaper bag. I should have just said no to trading anything in. What a HORRIBLE experience today. I would warn anyone from going in here because of the owner. It's very unfortunate how we were treated today. i went shopping with my mom because i had just found out i was pregnant, looking at onesies for the 20 for $10 deal. found a lot of cute ones! however, a lot of their clothing they sell has disgusting yellow/brown mystery stains on them. i get its a used kids store but to have stains like that on clothes? who would buy those? not to mention their customer service is absolutely horrifying and is the main reason why i won't stop in there alone EVER, nothing but rude girls working the counter. i had to use the bathroom during this trip and their bathrooms are absolutely disgusting and in some small creepy hallway... not to mention the guy who let me in stood by the door waiting for me to leave because they have to lock up their bathrooms?! are you kidding me? if theft is that bad MOVE locations. made me feel uncomfortable and creeped out. read more

They are ridiculous. I had very nice clothing, bought at a very expensive stores in downtown Salem. NONE of these clothes were slightly used, and they wouldn't take them..no stains, nothing still gave them back. I literally left with my bag full of leftover clothes. Lancaster is quite a ride from my home in South Salem, I will NEVER take my clothes there ever again. As far as I am concerned they are rotten, it smells of dank, the carpets are stained....how can they exude this, "too good for you" attitude? Not even mentioning how rude the staff is. YUCK! I will say, I agree with other reviewers on the fact that you just don't get much for your money selling wise. But hey, I get it, they've got to make it worth their while. It probably is the easiest/fastest way to get rid of your kid stuff aside from donating it all in trash bags. They give you cash/trade on the spot. However, I was super impressed with their selection as a buyer. The place is PACKED with stuff- strollers, bassinets, toys, and an insane amount of clothes; all organized by gender and size. Which makes shopping with a toddler and infant in tow much easier for this mama! All in all, I'm a fan. read more

I give them one star just based on the "selling" experience I had. Never been there before, I had several items all in great condition and they only took about 5 items and gave me $9 for it all! 2 pairs of brand new shoes, a skirt (they separated from the matching leggings and shirt) and a shirt they separated from the matching pants. I went outside saw they separated the items (I had plans to resale online) and they wouldn't allow me to give them their money back for the items. As far as selling I won't be going there again. Walked in and the location was filled with people so I took this as a good sign. When I walked around I noticed there was a gray kitchen set that looked filthy and no one had bother to wipe it down. When I walked up to the counter it took serval minutes for someone to acknowledge me because they were too busy talking about getting drunk later that night.. Some of the worst customer service I have dealt with at Once Upon a Child not only did I come in with two large bags of clothes which were cleaned and folded with no stains and all I have is $4.50 plus the two full bags that I walked in with the reasons that they gave me or because they were out of style and have stains on them when I went through by hand to make sure none of which have stains but saying that they're not stylish enough I have never been in a Once Upon a Child before and came out with the same clothes that I brought in back out. Have been taking my kids clothes here for a few years now with no issues. The last few times I've been in the lady at the counter was extremely rude and short with me. The first time, she made me run out to my car to grab my id; I had three kids and a newborn with me. I asked if I could Bring it in when I came back to pick up and she said no. Made me Run all three of my kids out to the car to grab my If and come back. This last time I had never been told not to bring my Clothes in a plastic bag, that was the first I had ever been told that, and she was extremely rude saying "we have been telling you guys to stop bringing in these plastic bags and you just won't stop, I can't take these clothes" I explained that I had been bringing clothes in there for years and was never told that, that I didn't leave near by and would she make an expedition. She said no. I will no longer be taking any of my clothes there, so sad how terrible customer service can ruin a business. read more

I think this place is wonderful. Yes it can take some time to go through the racks because they are packed tightly and no they don't always have the classiest of clientele, BUT it's worth it!! They have tons of excellent clothes in all sizes, styles. Tons of great shoes, books, toys, gear from cribs and strollers to pack n plays, strollers and nursing covers. Just about anything you need for your kids you can get here at a fantastic price. No they don't give top dollar for trade ins and they are picky, sometimes it's not about newness or condition but what's in season and how much inventory they already have of the size/ gender clothing. Since they take the risk of not selling the item I think they are pretty fair in the price they give when they buy from you . I like buying shower gifts here because for the price of an outfit or two in stores I can get about 10 outfits here. Baby gear is so ridiculously expensive for how short a time you can use it that it just makes sense to buy as much as you can here and fill in any gaps with items from full price retail stores! read more

I have never had a good experience at Once Upon a Child. First of all, hard rock music in a children's clothing store? Come on, employees! Secondly, the last time I was there I bought a pair of slippers for $4.99. I found the exact pair in a smaller size priced at $5.99. I asked if they would honor the lower price. They refused, comparing the pricing differences in their store to buying a used car! Can someone explain that? Thirdly, the store is so jammed packed you can barely maneuver through the place with a shopping cart or stroller. I took my sons brand new swing that was $132 from Target i bought it four months ago, my son just got too big for it. It was a super nice sway and cradle swing 3 positions with mirror mobile etc..they offered me $20 !!!???? Not only that i brought in my sons crib bedding that he didnt ever use due to the texture of it they refused to accept that & it was still crisp never been washed. It was a JOKE than when i told her i wouldnt accept $20 for the swing she giggled and said ok than walked off. I honestly have never been that disrespected before from an employee anywhere. This lady almost made me feel like i was scum and so was my sons baby things. I personally think the store is way too packed ! It's hard to walk through the aisles with a stroller, there is so much clothes it's hard to even look through it without clothes falling. I think some of the items are a little pricey to be used. I've been here about 10 times now and every time I've never been greeted as I walk in, the employees don't smile at all, they all seem mad all the time. They definitely need to work on customer service skills. I have brought in several boxes of baby clothes And shoes, it took them 30 min to search through all and only choose 5 pieces of clothing. As Im standing waiting to get paid, I overheard an Asian lady whispering to another employee so I turned and of course they were talking about me. Very unprofessional and rude. They will take all your brand new "with tags" clothing and give you like a dollar. I understand it's buy and resale but come on if the clothing has tags it's worth more than a buck. This store seems to have a great selection of clothes and shoes. I found the baby girl section to have a lot of cute items. The prices were reasonable. I also liked that they seemed to have clothes from all seasons available which is nice when you are expecting so you can stock up. The stroller prices however seemed a bit high, but all used strollers I have found seem to be over priced for the wear. read more

The worst children's consignment store. I went in with my daughter's used clothing that I thought was in good condition and clean. I went up to the resigter.set my clothes on the counter and said I would like to see if you guys can take any of these? the three girls who were obviously more interesting in gossiping then helping customers keep talking .I said excuse me I asked you if anyone can look at these items I brought in and tell me if you can take them. The one employee proceeded to turn to the other employee and say some people need to wait! That is when a manger? came up front again I repeated myself and she finally looked through my large pile of clothing to tell me she couldn't take any of it. I was stunned .But i just said OK and looked around. When i was ready to pay I stood once again in line for at least 10 Min's to wait for the two employees to stop talking, finally she rang me up. They are the rudest people that work there, they make you feel like crap when you bring your stuff in . And some of the stuff they sell in there is overpriced. I even tired to be fair and go in there a second time to give the store another chance and I had the same experience . Save yourself the headache and go somewhere else. read more

I will not be going back to this place. I took in a whole bunch of clothes from my son and they told me they didn't want any of it. They were too worn and majorly stained is the reason i got from the guy working there. ALL of the clothes were name brand and only worn once or twice, not sure how they could be too worn and majorly stained. Also I was told it would take 30 minutes to go through the items when there was no one in front of me. So while I waited i decided to check out what they had I got followed around the entire time as if i was going to steal something, and i can get brand new stuff from a store for cheaper. After i decided i was done getting followed up the store i decided to wait up by the counter and the guy didn't even recognize me and asked if i had turned in some clothes to be looked at. I told him yes and what was brought in. The items were just sitting on the shelf and I am coming to be live that they didn't go through anything because when i got the neatly box i gave them the guy returned a nasty looking mess and i looked in under a little bit of it and clothes were still folded and not touched. If they didn't need anything just say these aren't what we were looking for. Majorly disappointed and so glad i wasted my time. read more

I don't think they know what they're looking for when people are selling clothes. I kept getting all my items back and them saying they are to used or not in style. So I tested my theory and bought a whole new set of outfits from walmart. Took the tags off some and not all. Took them to them the same day and what do you know got all if them back saying they're too used. I pointed out the price tags still on some and showed my receipt showing I just purchased them to test a theory and I was right. Don't bring your stuff here. They don't know what they want. This place is the best place I've ever been for resale. I can bring clothes we're not using in and they promptly give me credit. I ALWAYS end up buying more than I made cause the deals are just so great. The people are so friendly and they even have sales associates on the floor to help you with your every need. The shop is organized by size AND color! It's as neat as a pin with TONS of selections. I don't know how they do it. I always get super prompt service and they're even starting to recognize me when I come in. WOW! read more

I refuse to sell to this store anymore. They low ball on prices, which I don't even care, when they buy in cash I expect prices to be lower than normal. I had my clothes laid out by size and in outfits in plastic totes when I came in. I explicitly told them not to separate the outfits. If they didn't want to buy the whole outfit, then they needed to leave it out. They completed going through the items and told me what they would offer me for them. I accepted their offer, thinking that they had listened to my instructions. I thought it was a little funny that they wouldn't show me what was being sent home with me prior to completing the transaction. When I got my totes back, I realized they had separate a whole bunch of outfits for seemingly no reason. It was too late then. I now have parts of outfits that I have to try and sell without the matching shirts or pants. I will never shop here again for this reason. I was fuming mad that they had very clear instructions and simply didn't care. I know for a fact that all of the outfits were very clearly laid out together. read more
