I'm extremely disappointed with their customer service. I dropped off clothes in the evening, and three young employees at the counter told me there was a two-hour wait. They assured me it was fine to pick up my cash the next day but never mentioned that failing to return within that window would mean forfeiting cash in favor of store credit. Unfortunately, I worked all weekend and, as a parent of two young children, couldn't make it back in time. I repeatedly tried calling to let them know but was met with voicemail every time--no one ever answers the phone. When I finally returned a couple of days later, I was told I could only receive store credit, not my cash. I don't appreciate the dishonesty of some of the workers here. I have brought in my clothes to sell here before and it's been pretty good. This time though, new people, I know they did not even go through my stuff and just grabbed a couple items from the top of my bag. They don't look very happy to be working there at the front. I waited 20 minutes as I was told, the first 10 I was walking around and they didn't go through my stuff. I went out to my car, came back in and they had my bag in the same spot as when I first came in. The lady there said she wasn't the one who sorted it and she said the clothes they didn't choose were probably stained. One of them was stained but the rest were in great condition basically new. I had come in 10 minutes before they stopped accepting donations and I have a big hunch they didn't even go through the clothes. Don't make me wait 20 minutes to tell me the clothes aren't good. I would appreciate someone explaining it to me so I'm not wasting their time and mine. Please hire people with good customer service skills or train them these skills so I don't have to be a Karen please. I don't vibe that way. Honestly, I thought about even leaving a review since most of what I have to say has already been said but figured why not? My first experience at this store last year was awful. It was a four hour wait for my clothes to be looked at and I ended up having to drive back home to Hillsboro without them and come back the next day, which was a pain. I had also picked out some clothes I wanted to buy while I was waiting and they were supposed to hold them for me until I found out what my store credit amount would be but they ended up putting them back before I returned to the store a day later. Super disappointing and I swore I wouldn't be back. I follow them on FB and there have been some posts between now and then about how they replaced the buyer they had before and now they were processing clothing within an hour. I figured I would give them another try since that was my main complaint last time and because I have been hoarding clothing for the last 15 months. I brought in an Ikea bag filled with freshly laundered, ironed, lint rolled and folded clothing along with some almost new baby carriers and new shoes. Probably around 100 items in various sizes but all spring/summer appropriate and a good number of name brands. No stains, rips, tears and everything under 2 years old. Well, they were finished in under an hour, which was GREAT, however they only purchased 30 items and gave me $50 for it. That's $50 for the two baby carriers, brand new shoes and other high value items. I was shocked at both the little amount of items they kept and the little amount they paid me for what they kept. Everything I brought in was in season and in better condition than most of the items we looked at in store. I also brought in name brand items like Gap, Little Sleepies, ADIDAS, Lillebaby, etc. I really should have just taken my stuff back but I had already picked out some times I wanted and you do get a 10% discount if you buy the same day you sell. I figured I would at least have enough money to cover the items we picked out but no. I purchased 13 items (10 articles of clothing and 3 books) and my total was nearly $70 AFTER the 10% discount! For used items! I could have purchased new for that price. I read somewhere the store was saying that they pay you 30% of what they would sell the item for but it's really more like 5%-10%. It would be one thing if they offered little and sold for little but the ratio is just so far off. They give you literal pennies for your items and then turn around and sell them for nearly retail price. Insane! Additionally, a lot of the clothing we picked through in the 2T/3T area had stains, water marks, heavy wash wear and were inexpensive brands (Jumping Bean and Cat & Jack). I can get C&J for $5 per piece at Target brand new and OUAC is selling used for $4.50. They also didn't have a very big selection of either size. We looked at the shoes and they were all super used, most dirty with chunks of dirt and mud on them and they SMELLED! The toys were incomplete and dirty. To top off a disappointing trip and to add to the feeling of being ripped off, they also charge $1.50 PER BAG if you want to carry your clothing out in something. I told the cashier we would just use the bag we brought our items in with and she pointed to the end of the counter and was like "It's over there", leaving us to gather our items and take them to our bag. I'm just done. I will go back to selling items myself or waiting until the big seasonal consignment sales happen and do those instead. read more

DO NOT SHOP HERE. there is another used store off Mill Plain Blvd, different company but MUCH better experience. I bought a stroller here, asked some of the young gals working to help me put it together before I bought, no one could help (didn't know how to assemble). No prob I said, I'll just buy it and figure it out when I get home. Got home, realized within 10 minutes it was missing the bar part for a canopy. When I searched online, found it was Discontinued and no one sold parts. Went to return it literally 20 minutes later and I was told "sorry, I should know that I'm buying used items". seriously?! No shit. But you can't really use a baby stroller with no canopy to cover their head whatsoever. Also no one could help me put it together. They were beyond rude about it. I don't know why people give this place a negative review. Nobody probably understands how busy and overwhelmed they are with items and clothes from people all of the time. I'm guessing most of the negative reviews are just tired overwhelmed parents complaining about a business not being perfectly convenient for them. In my opinion, they do an excellent job doing what they do and I appreciate the opportunity to get some money back on what I've bought. You're getting money for clothes that don't fit your children anymore and that you would most likely end up donating anyways so I definitely appreciate what they do. Once Upon a Child is independently owned, so each store has different prices and deals. That being said, this store carries new items that are sold for higher prices than in store products, after taxes are settled. For a second hand store, the prices are generally pretty high. You have to really dig for a good deal. I've seen multiple pieces of clothing with stains and snags, but yet they reject buying clothing for the same or less reasons? They only offer pennies on the dollar for items, or completely reject purchasing with nearly no explanation. We brought down three totes of clothes. We know that OUAC is infamously picky; however, like others, their treatment of us was insulting. It appears they didn't even look at the clothes. They returned them to us and said they were too filthy for their store. I pulled out all stained and worn clothes before bagging these up. These were all freshly washed and without stains. It seems like honesty would be a better policy. One just has to say our stock is full - as it clearly looks in the store. But to say that the clothes were filthy was insulting. I made the trek with my screaming infant to consign some clothes. When I got there, the staff were mostly unmasked. One lady tried to help situate my baby's car seat into a cart and I backed up to keep a safe distance between her and my unvaccinated child. She looked confused and I said, "I'm just keeping distance, I'm surprised you're not masked working in a children's store." I am honestly super surprised at the reviews I just read on here.... While I have not taken anything back here to sell, I have been here multiple times to purchase and have never left disappointed. It is also easy to see why it may be harder to resell items here... I have looked through thousands of items on these racks and have found MAYBE a handful of pieces of clothing with miniscule stains and/or items that look a little too worn. Last time I came here they were having a huge sale - 50% off everything - I ended up taking home 2 huge bags of clothing and a brand new $140 pack n' play for $60!! :-) The only reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because sometimes they have SO many items on the racks its hard to look through them all! read more

They do not take back used items. I have tried multiple times, each time I was told the item was too worn. One of the items I had just been purchased a couple days before and my child did not fit in it. ZERO wear. Same condition it was sold to me in. Not only that but they tried to keep the items they were not going to buy. I had to ask where they were before I got attitude about taking them home the same day. Took almost 2 hours to go through my one box of clothes, even though it wasn't busy. Store has a big selection, but from what I saw it was a little overpriced for infant clothes. Can get bulk onesies for $10 instead of $4 a piece for used ones. They bought a handful of my items for $6.83 which is fine, but she asked if I wanted store credit or cash, store credit would be a little more. I asked for store credit because I was buying things, and she rang it up at cash price so there was no point to buy anything.. They threw most of my items back in the box after I had them all nicely folded LIKE THEY ASKED. When looking through the box, most weren't even unfolded from how I folded them, just thrown around. They don't even look through your items really. Girls are rude, and the other reviews definitely agree with that. Won't be coming back, I'll just wait until Baby Goods in Portland is having buy days. Decided to visit this place after hearing a commercial on Pandora. Wasn't crazy about this place; at all. Huge disappointment actually. The 3T section was slimmmmm pickings and all of the clothes were pretty hideous unfortunately. There was a strong smell of smoke in the store for some reason. They offered me $12.50 for a perfect condition pack n play, and I saw them for sale in the back for $100. Doesn't seem like a proper percentage price back. I don't see how they necessarily make money here, all the clothes were shabby, and un pleasing. Would probably try my luck at Goodwill or Value Village for consigning! read more

The overall organization of the store is ok and selection of items is good, but the general feel of the place is kind of like being in Kmart; it feels bare bones and it's kind of depressing to be in the store. The real drawback of this place is how impersonal and flat out rude the employees can be. And forget about trying to sell to this place. The buyer has unrealistic expectations for gently used merchandise and clothes. I literally had multiple strollers and clothing turned down here that were almost new because of "staining" the buyer saw, only to go down the street and have the buyer from tiny hiny's tell me how beautiful the same items were. Today was my first and last time coming to Once Upon A Child. First the gal asked me to fill out the form, which i did. She told me I didn't completely it correctly because I didn't write down my address, I let her know there was no need for them to have my address. She then told me it would take about 5 hours for them to go through my clothes so I left. All clothes I brought were gentle used Carters, H&M & Old Navy brand clothes. They took 1 pair of shoes, 2 pairs of old navy jeans, 1 carters set, carters onesie, several carters shirts and a brand new dress shirt. Expect to get a dollar of less for each item. Overall I've had a good experience here. I've only been to this location twice and so far I have NOT experienced the rudeness other people have spoken of. When I was there the staff was very friendly and complemented many of the baby outfits I was purchasing. They were engaged and the store was clean and tidy. I was a little worried about going here because of the bad reviews, especially since I live 2 hours way but it was all worth it. I got a cart full of baby clothes (many of them new with tags) for only $130. You can't beat that. The staff is also taking COVID-19 precautions and are wearing masks and wiping down surfaces. The only thing I was a little disappointed with was that there wasn't huge selection of books and toys like I have found at other locations but we did find some great deals. If you try to consign here, they will be INCREDIBLY picky even if your clothing is brand new. However, there's plenty of shabby and stained clothing on the racks. I sold my baby clothes there on September 24th. When I arrived, they food not have a buyer. So the printed out a slip to come back. I was not able to get back to get payed until today.
