    Mutton Curry
    Jason C.

I met up with a friend and as we were walking in, a group of 6 walked in front of us and as you can imagine, they did order a lot of food. We ordered the following items: - Butter Chicken - Mutton Curry - Fish Tandoori The owner told us it would take longer then usual and sure enough it took a while... we got there at 6:15pm and it took an hour before we got our food. Seemed like the owner was already backed up with few orders, on top of the orders for the group of 6 ahead of us. So what did I think of their food? - Butter Chicken - the dish has heavy butter taste, but don't let that stop you from enjoying the dish. Pour the curry and chicken on top of the rice and if you like it spicy, order it spicy! The dish really only has two things - curry and pieces of chicken breast. - Mutton Curry - the lamb meat was moist, perfectly cooked and the bones felt off the meat without any issues. They give you a lot of meat in this dish. If you don't eat lamb because of the smell, then don't fear, this dish did not have any lamb meat smell. - Fish Tandoori - the name threw me off... expected to be tandoori dish based upon the name, but it was more like blackened fish with grilled veggies on bed of rice. Don't get me wrong, the flavor department was super packed and the dish was delicious!! Seating is limited to counter top style along the walls, this is mainly a takeout joint. I would recommend you order ahead and take the food home. Looks like the owner is the only person running the joint, so expect some delays. I would highly recommend that you order ahead and pick it up. On the food aspect, the flavors were excellent, I had no complaint on the food itself... the only draw back was the long wait... yes I appreciated the owner saying it would take longer then usual, didn't expect an hour wait for the food... but at the end, the wait was worth it... next time, I'll call ahead and pick up the food and eat there. While the wait was too long, I'm giving 4 stars for the food experience. Also keep in mind, some of the items you order, they might not be able to fulfill... we wanted to order BBQ for 2 people and was told that was not feasible, just have backup order plans just in case.

Eggplant curry Kati, delicious but very spicy

I stopped for their lunch special which is two Kati for $5.99. I had a Paneer Tikka Kati and an Eggplant Curry Kati. I liked the Eggplant Curry Kati best because the Paneer Tikka was very salty. The Eggplant Curry had a great flavor, but it would be too spicy for people who don't like spice. They have seating at a counter and an outdoor table if you want to eat there, but most people must get their food to go.

After two failed attempts, third time was the charm! Take note that they don't serve lunch on Fridays (the cause of one of my prior failures.) I ordered one samosa (FYI: they come individually; I've always been accustomed to pairs) and the chicken shawarma kata roll. Let me preface my review by saying I'd been really excited to check this place out. I've read lots of good reviews and this part of town is missing a good spot with Indian options. As soon as I walked in, I noticed the interior is very bare bones- nothing fancy. That's fine because I was there for the food and it was carry-out anyway. The man working the grill was a BEAST. I don't know the last time I watched anyone work that hard for that many consecutive minutes. I saw him prepare multiple orders on the grill, take an order over the phone, AND he rang me up. Kudos to him! I was incredibly excited for the samosa because I hadn't had one in ages and I'd been fixing for one. When I noticed that it came out of a store-bought box before going in the deep fryer, I didn't even care because I was thrilled to have a samosa in my vicinity again. Final review: not a fan of the samosa. The filling was spicier than I'm used to, and while it wasn't necessarily hot, it just wasn't what I was looking for. The outside was flaky and good but I still wound up not finishing the samosa. Suffice to say, I was a little sad inside. As for the kati roll- delicious! The flavors were all there and blended well, and the crepe-esque outer layer was SUPERB! Already planning which ones I'll try next. My dinner cost me a total of $6.09 and filled me right up. I'd much rather spend my money at a local restaurant than a fast food chain. This place is AFFORDABLE! Definitely encourage others to give this place a shot. I'll be back for sure.

If you ever went to Eastern Flame and loved it, you will be happy to know that Once Upon a Grill is the same owner! I have be thinking of those kati rolls for years and I can finally get them again! The food is cheap, fast and delicious and the service is great! Excited to try the whole menu!

Not sure how I over looked this place but glad I finally tried and it was Amazing. Probably the Best Mutton Biryani in Ann Arbor. $12.99 for the Mutton Biryani that can really serve 2 people with good amount of Meat that comes with Mint Yogurt Raita as a side to mix biryani. You have to pay additional 75 cents if you want more of those. Pros: -------- Amazing Biryani with Good Portion Good Pricing Free Parking Free Wifi Clean Restroom Good Food Options next door Cons: -------- Not a big place to sit with group. Will return for sure and try other things on the Menu.

Had a BBQ for 2 here and the service was quick. The owner told us that kati roll was the most popular. We had a complimentary yogurt sauce.

Shoutout to my friend and fellow foodie Tiffany for always being down to try a new spot together!…read moreWe did a double date at El Harissa recently and it's my favorite kind of spot - welcoming and warm, with delicious food, and kind, patient employees. The cafe is a few tables inside of the market/deli, with a lot of takeout happening but I love that they offer dining in as they heat everything up for you and it's all presented very nicely. We ordered a ton of things: harissa dip, hummus, pita, spice roasted cauliflower, tabbouleh, lasagne verde, chicken tagine, and gelato. I loved that the menu indicates which menu items have a smaller carbon footprint - and we happened to be dining there on Earth Day! The food was all flavorful and the perfect temperature, which I appreciated. My favorites were the harissa dip, tabbouleh, and the lasagne verde. The chicken tagine was very good, and we enjoyed the leftovers the next day. The spice roasted cauliflower left us wanting it to be a bit more crispy, but it was a nice side. The gelato is delicious - it's made by Palazzolo's but El Harissa provides them with the unique ingredients for their specialty flavors. They were out of some but we got to sample several. We ended up with the roasted pistachio gelato and the apricot peach cardamom. The texture of the gelato was perfectly creamy and the flavors were strong. The market has lots of great items to buy: chips, tunisian olive wood pieces, spices, etc. I'm so glad we sought out this spot and can't wait to get more of their food!

Had the: *Spice Roasted Cauliflower (Crispy cauliflower florets coated and baked in rice and chickpea flour and our North African spice blend. Served with Harissa Dip) Small/1-2 Portion - $11): A little soggier than I'd like but the flavors were good! I also like the harissa dip it came with! *Small Merguez Meatballs (Inspired by the Maghrebi sausage, our spiced lamb and beef meatballs are hand-rolled with onions and herbs and coated with a thick tomato sauce. Served with saffron rice or couscous - small portion came with 3 for $10): For meatballs that included lamb - it wasn't gamey at all and very tasty! I picked cous cous for my side. *Chicken Chermoula (Brined, seared, then baked to capture all of its flavor, our crowd-favorite chicken is juicy and delicious. Served over rice with our herby, garlicky, lemony Chermoula Sauce - Double Portion - $18): Our main entree to share. The lemony chermoula sauce was delish. Chicken was perfectly cooked - not dry at all! Mujadara Rice (A Levantine staple of spiced green lentils and rice. Ours is adorned with carefully caramelized golden onions for a touch of savory-sweetness - small for $8) - SO tasty! I could eat this on its own. Maghrebi Chili (Smoky and spicy. Ground beef seasoned with Harissa spices and slowly cooked with chickpeas, lentils, black beans, peppers, and loads of vegetables - Small/Pint - $9.50) - FIBER CITY! Flavors were really good! We also had SO much gelato - they basically let us sample all of them. ended up with the pistachio and tiramisu. I'll be back - especially for a salad with their wonderful chicken - seems like a great healthy option!
