Carolina Air Care advertises being in existence for 20 years, and we have been a customer for 11 of…read morethose years. We are a retired couple with modest home heating/cooling requirements. In 2015, we purchased a new Lennox system (Merit 5 Ton 15 Seer Split Heat Pump) from Carolina Air Care. We contracted solely with Carolina Air Care for the system's annual maintenance. Within a few years a coil needed to be replaced, and while the unit was under manufacturer warranty, the labor for replacement was not, thus saddling us with a high repair bill. In 2024, within 9 years of purchase, the Lennox system then had such failure that it needed total replacement. We remained a Carolina Air Care customer (our mistake) and purchased a new Rheem system (5 ton 14.3 Seer 2 Split Heat Pump). Again, we contracted solely with Carolina Air Care for annual maintenance. In 2026, just 25 months after purchase, the compressor failed. Carolina Air Care estimated we would incur a several thousand dollar repair cost. To be clear, 2 new HVAC systems of different brands we purchased from Carolina Air Care over 11 years had multiple system failures and short lifespans. We don't have the technical expertise to ferret through the intricacies of the failures (e.g. manufacturing defect, subpar installation/maintenance, our usage pattern, or combinations). And we doubt that Carolina Air Care knows. But our unfortunate experience is that Carolina Air Care's business practice doesn't include it sharing responsibility, even with long-term customers. It took us 11 years to understand that. We have lost trust and moved on to another HVAC company.

Problem is they DON'T stand by their work. They installed a new flexible return air duct for me in 2021. It collapsed, because they didn't adequately support it. The duct was installed with supports appropriately every 10 feet, and should have been supported every 4 to 5' per standards. They charged me AGAIN to replace the duct that was incorrectly installed the first time. BOTTOM LINE: Don't use Carolina Air Care if you want a company that stands by their work.

Purchasing a new HVAC unit and getting numerous quotes is a daunting task. I think I met with at…read moreleast 6 companies before deciding to go with Southern Air. I had gotten Mike's name from a friend who had used him in the past. A Word of mouth referrals always means a lot! Michael was familiar with and willing to install several brands as opposed to a few other companies that only seem to sell one brand. He also didn't make me sit through an hour long presentation about why his company and products were the best (my time is valuable and I had sat through one too many gimmicky presentations from other HVAC companies in town already so I was really grateful to skip that). His price was THE best out of all the companies I got estimates from. We had two HVAC brands in mind and also wanted a Nano filter (UV light that kills mold/bacteria inside the blower unit). We weighed the benefits of both brands with Michael and proceeded with what he suggested (we had also had an upstate HVAC friend independently confirm it was a good choice). We got the quotes in July 2020 and Michael told us that prices would go down in winter if we could hold off for a few months. He was right- we got a better price in early December. They also put in the Nano bulb which will get replaced every two years. I think this is a nice feature for Charleston area homes where mold can be a real fear. Installation day came and everything went smoothly! Three guys came and it took about 5 hours from start to finish. They worked clean, were thoughtful, and took their time. They came out on Wed 12/17. They had a HUGE job to do. The previous tech from another company (Comfort Zone HVAC) a disaster. TJ, his incredible wife and the lovely Karina had their work cut out! They got it all cleaned up and the outside unit installed before 4 pm! Karina was a sweetheart who took pride in making sure my house was cleaned, floors were swept up and all mess gone before they left! She even made sure to remind TJ to clean my floors and vaccume the next day. I appreciate that!! TJ and his wife whom I just can't recall her name were so refreshing! Very friendly, professional, and optimistic! They were a real pleasure to be around and talk to! The next day TJ came by with another man I can not recall his name unfortunately, but he was super pleasent as well. Between the two of them they got everything up and running by 1:30. I was shocked. They ran into a few more surprises the previous tech had left behind but they were able to rectify them no problem. TJ even cleaned my filter grates. One thing I really noticed was wven though it was clear I had been scammed and the previous business did such a bad job..TJ and his crew kept it so professional and did not bash the guy. That is class!! I had been without a working HVAC sysytem since July 27th and had been dealing with a nightmare situation. To have this situation FINALLY be resolved is a blessing and a HUGE relief!
