    Inside air handler unit
    Jay T.

So my home's AC stopped blowing cold air. I messaged Carolina Climate Control for a service call estimate. After about 30 minutes I got a text saying service call charge was $79, but would be applied to any repair costs and to call them for an appointment. I called and explained the issue, but was told someone would call me back to schedule. Over an hour went by and no one called me, so I called back. Appointment was set and David B. showed up timely; he was professional and friendly. He determined my fan was dead and roughly estimated $500 to replace. Seemed like an expensive bandaid for a 14 year-old unit, so I decided best to just replace it. Next day Travis B. came to give me an estimate for a new unit. He was on time, friendly and professional. Gave me a quote before he left and it was just under $6K for new Ruud 14 seer unit. They took the $79 service call cost off the total (after I reminded them). Two days later the installers showed up on time to get my AC going. They were professional and it took them about 8 hours to complete the job. HVAC has worked fine since install. Only negative is they dripped something on my garage floor (I assume oil from the old air handler unit or from the lift they used to install the new one) that stained the floor all the way across my garage. I initially thought it was just water and would dry/disappear, but nearly two weeks later it's still there. But at least I have cold air!

Electricity usage before and after new HVAC installation.

Our HVAC unit had been giving us problems for the past year or more. We've had it repaired and refilled the refrigerant a couple times. This year the energy usage of our utility bill had been skyrocketing. I was hesitant to commit to a whole new system. However, our energy usage has dropped tremendously, so in time the new HVAC will pay for itself. I went with the recommendation from Carolina Climate Control for the appropriate SEER, and it works great.

Overcharge Job came out over $300 per hour

Also Advertises as a Plumbing company found out they do not actually do plumbing but subcontracts outside company and overcharges they should stick to heating and cooling and not have plumbing included in their advertisement. And they do not charge by the hour once on property they charge for each repair and extreme amount $2300 for a six hour job at over $300 per hour never heard of such a thing. need to check out their Google map reviews To get the full story that I posted

WE ARE STILL OWED OVER $30K, AND THEY HAVE NOT PAID THE CONTRACTOR AS REQUIRED. Updated to 1 star in Jan 2026 for outright negligence in installing and maintaining the system, which led to airborne mold levels over 40X higher than outside air, mold and water damage throughout the entire attic and between two of the second-story walls, and attempts to claim this was normal despite over twenty service calls from the day after it was installed incorrectly until it was removed due to Pardee's negligence and severe lack of attention to detail. Their field service manager is on tape three months after installation, saying, "I told them it wouldn't work with that ducting." Wiring was left hanging off rafters with no cable management, and the controller's terminal board was exposed to the elements because the cover was not installed. Technician rolled his eyes and gave an exasperated sigh when I asked him why he thought it was okay to leave it like that not once, not twice, but even the third time he'd been to the house. It was over three weeks from their first visit to install the system until the thermostat would control the system correctly. In March 2025, during service call somewhere in the teens in the first six months of system being installed, they performed a differential pressure test across the air handler. Their lack of attention to detail resulted in a 1 to 1.5" uncovered hole at the exhaust plenum, blowing cold air into the attic nonstop for months. In May 2025, we noticed the mold in the attic and could smell it in the house. After enough calls to Pardee, the co-GM, Joe, finally came out to look at the system and told me that mold in the attic was normal given the summer humidity in Charleston, which is a stretch for a house built in 2015. It was also a poor attempt to blow smoke up someone who inspected piping and HVAC systems in a former life. In August, I discovered the hole in the exhaust duct and showed Joe the cause-and-effect of Pardee's lack of professionalism. Causation correlated perfectly to our power bills doubling starting the day of that visit in March, and the mold covering the entire attic and blowing throughout the house. At this point Joe said while he couldn't be sure it was the fault of Pardee, they were willing to replace the system. There was no mention of removing or mitigating the mold in our house, which he could no longer deny responsibility and accountability. He said that would require calling his insurance company and he was hoping to handle it without involving them. I recommended he call their insurance company since I was talking to lawyers. We were out of our house for two months while basically the entire second-floor ceiling was replaced, along with all insulation in the attic and portions of walls and floors. It is now January 2026. The house still has not been repaired to code, and Pardee, their private equity firm, Service Advantage Experts, and their insurance representative have stopped responding to emails and phone calls from both us and the contractors they were supposed to pay directly. This is the "insurance" company that will not respond. While their email address ends with @travelers.com it is clear that Travelers has nothing to do with this claim. We opted not to get an outdoor kitchen ( which I do love) after having one catch fire in a brand new home we had built in Texas. FYI, the fire was all due to bad installation from the outdoor kitchen people , but it scarred me emotionally enough to only have a grill I can push into the back yard in case of emergency. After being told by first responders that my house would have exploded shortly, I knew we would be ever vigilant should we do this again. Al looked over the area and where the hook up valve was located and offered us sooooo many better options than where the builder had put it. He really knew his business and we were confident that for safety and aesthetics he was exactly the man for the job. And boy was he. He removed the old hook up valve which was poorly installed to start with( yes, this is a new home) and moved it to a much better location with all new hoses, connections and everything else needed for the job. Talk about a difference. He also had every tool for the job so there was no running back and forth to the store or back to the business. That was really nice. Carson, his apprentice was also incredibly helpful and found the wire needed in the grill to hook up to the starter. We were afraid that Lowe's wouldn't get there for the delivery in time and we would have to pay for another service call, but they made it just as they were finishing! A job WELL done!! I decided to put out a…read morerequest a quote through Yelp so I could see who was available and get some pricing for Monday morning. I've had this issue happen years ago so I was pretty confident in the fact that I needed my main line snaked/augered. I feel like the whole point of doing these requests is to get the info you need without a bunch of phone calls and visitors to the house, but it feels like pulling teeth trying to get a quote out of someone. I understand there are variables, but I'm including a description of what I need... at least give me a ballpark. While Holy City is one of the ones that would not offer any pricing, they did offer a free estimate and they also got back to me Sunday evening within minutes of putting in my request. I went back and forth on the app and set up an appointment for Monday morning between 10am-12pm and was told I would get a text 30 mins before to let me know someone was on the way. Well 10-12 came and went with no tech, no call, and no text. I did shoot them a message at that point letting them know that nobody came. A while later, they sent me a message saying that my appointment time had changed and would now be between 3-5pm. No apology or acknowledgement of the missed appointment from that morning. So I replied, "No thank you. You already no call/no showed our first appointment". I get no response on the app so I figure what's done is done. Then I get a text around 3:15pm letting me know a tech is on his way to my home. I responded with a shortened version from above and that I no longer wanted service. Then it seemed I was getting a new message from an Aaron D stating he canceled the appointment and was sorry for the confusion about my appointment. I pointed out that there was no confusion about the appointment and that I was ready and waiting the whole time to which their tech no call/no showed. Then they just reschedule me for 5 hours later with zero explanation or apology. At that point, the problem was already fixed by another plumber from another company who was more reliable. From there, Aaron did apologize for the inconvenience and acknowledged that the mistake was on their end and he would deal with it internally. Based on other reviews and the quick response to my initial inquiry, I was really looking forward to a great experience. Maybe this was a fluke for them, but I can only go off of the experience I had and it was quite disappointing. I'll add an extra star for Aaron reaching out to remedy the situation and acknowledging their mistake, but I won't be recommending them to anyone else.

In February 2025, my power bill was $220, which was $80 more than when I had the old unit and duct work that was full of holes. I was told that my power bill would be much better. There were a total of 4 months where bill was significantly higher. Also, the thermostat was doing weird things, and I called them, but it got better on its own. In September, I was switching out summer shoes for winter, when I saw all my leather shoes were covered in mildew and or rotted, as was my leather recliner (in guest room so I don't see it frequently). Cabinets in spare bathroom had mildew, part of walls and another small leather chair that we don't really use. A friend that sells spray foam, told me that hvac is supposed to get rid of moisture. I had a technician come out, and he told me it was caused by water under my house and on the brick. ( I had accidentally left the hose running in that area a week prior). I had a termite inspection about a month earlier where they said there was no moisture. i asked for a second technician, A.C., and he spent about 2 hours at my home, then told me the unit had not been installed properly. The owner came over, looked at stuff and went into a 15 lecture about how customer friendly they are. I asked for compensation, and he called me an extortionist and said my shoes were from the 80's, which is laughable because I love new shoes. He went out to his car to leave, and he accused me of running down the street after him. He was parked on my grass, when I have a perfectly good circular driveway with no cars. I am contemplating small claims court, but what bothers me are the intangibles...I am a 70 yr old arthritic women who had to clean all that mildew. In addition, who knows what the long term affects the moisture has done to my home? Below are some photos, but most things werected cleaned up by then. THEY OFFERED ME NOTHING.
