I was turned down from an empty pool because I chose the wrong time block , I think I picked adult swim instead of free swim. None the less 9/10 experience.

There just hasn't been a review of the Curtis Hall Community Center in quite a while, and I thought it would be helpful to update. I'm training for a triathlon and needed an affordable place to swim 1-2 times a week. I I've gone swimming here a couple of times and I'm very happy with the swimming facilities. The locker room is.. a locker room. It seems well maintained and clean, which is all I can really ask for. The showers do turn off approximately every 30 seconds or so, but it's not a huge problem. The pool is 25 yards, and there are three lanes. I've only been in the early morning, but the most people I've seen at the pool at one time is 9 (3 per lane) and that worked out just fine. The gentleman who works at the front desk in the morning is friendly, and very helpful. He allowed me to try out the pool a couple of times before joining, which was really nice. The cost to join is $30 a year and there is a $2 per use cost for the pool. However, you can buy a card that gives you 7 uses for $10 -- well worth it if you ask me. I have no problem paying to help to support a community center. I will take a look at the rest of the facility one day when I'm not in a rush to get to work.

This location stays busy, and is mostly younger individuals that go here. Definitely a smaller PF and has limited equipment & they never seemed to have anything, like paper towels and cleaning spray. Also, since there is limited equipment & this gym is always packed, good luck not only getting a squat rack, but with any machine for that matter. There is barely any space to put down a mat to stretch either. One thing that I did like about this location in particular was that the music was always good, I will admit. Many of my visits here, I went without headphones & luckily the music being played on the speakers would be exactly what I'd play personally, so that was great! Another con, unfortunately, was one time I visited, I had finished working out and walked back to my car to see a parking ticket. I was definitely confused, as I did not remember seeing anything (at the time, not sure if nowadays they've added parking restriction signs) regarding not being able to park at that spot? No meters there either. Due to this experience, that was likely my last straw and I never visited again after this. But I will always remember this location having the best music out of all the PFs I have visited ;) Cleanliness: 1/5 Machines, Equipment: 1/5 Parking: 1/5 Music: 4/5

Not sure if the AC has been broken or off, but it can get pretty hot sometimes. The water fountain has been broken and the vending machine out of service for a while. Some of the front desk staff aren't super well-versed in the policies. The group exercise classes can be hit or miss, but I really enjoy Leo's Monday night Zumba. The (summer) hours could be better, with the gym closing at 5pm on weekends and the weights floor closing 15 minutes before actual closing time.

IF ONLY the Housing section and VULNERABLE TENANTS were treated as wonderfully as the gym and gym members that would be nice. Tenants are watched like criminals from behind an ALWAYS CLOSED CRUZ MANAGEMENT COMPANY office door, but Huntington House is not a prison, jail, halfway house, shelter, recovery/treatment center, or the like. It is simply low-income/subsidized housing where tenants are treated very disrespectfully by the YMCA OF GREATER BOSTON'S agent CRUZ MANAGEMENT COMPANY. The building is treated just as poorly as tenants. Hallways and common areas are rarely swept or cleaned. Trash bins are often placed inside on the residential hallway on at least one floor, instead of outside of the entrance door to the residential floors. Exterminations are rare and many tenants would probably describe their units as uninhabitable. Complaints, maintenance requests are either ignored or, well, ignored! The general negligence in oversight by the YMCA OF GREATER BOSTON of CRUZ MANAGEMENT COMPANY "property managers" is nonexistent EVEN when YMCA OF GREATER BOSTON officials are apprised of problems and, in my situation, even after multiple legal actions. AND I COULD GO ON AND ON...AND ON!!!...AND ON!!!!! INSTEAD, I will refer you to my Substack account. There you can read my claims about the many violations of my state, federal, and constitutional rights by the YMCA OF GREATER BOSTON and CRUZ MANAGEMENT COMPANY since 2020 and YOU BE THE JUDGE in the comment section as to whether my rights were really violated. Search Still I Rise Above Hatred on Substack. MAYBE ONE DAY the YMCA OF GREATER BOSTON will use the many millions in donations per year to make living at the Huntington House as wonderful as exercising in the gym.
