He showed us how neat the steel looks as it ages, helped the Husband pick out what metal he wanted on his skin and was great to work with. Everything in that shop is amazing. He doesn't make the Damascus steel himself, a friend does(I think it's the only thing he doesn't make in his shop), but he's extremely knowledgable about it and owns some great pieces of his own. One day, I took them out and the post detached from the pearl. I drove all the way to Hagerstown and asked them to fix it. $18. I got them back and didn't wear them for nearly a month after the repair was complete, wore them ONCE, and the exact thing happened as I took them out. As you can see from the picture, the glue job was incredibly sloppy. You would think a month's time is enough time for the glue to set, but the repair job was so poor that they only lasted one wear. Kay Jewelers in the Prime Outlet Mall of Hagerstown, Md. took over Ultra Diamonds one to two years…read moreago. My husband purchased a wedding set at what was then Ultra Diamonds ten years ago. As part of the warranty, I needed to take my rings in every quarter to six months to keep the warranty intact for the diamonds. Starting the first year I owned the set, I was told when taking the set in for inspection that it needed repairs. This went on for eight years with endless repairs on my ring. Kay's Jewelry took over Ultra Diamonds and had the same plan- visit every six months for ring inspection to determine whether the diamonds were in jeopardy from loose fittings. Kay Jeweler continued in the tradition that my ring needed repairs at least once per year. This year I had my ring inspected and rebuilt by a reputable local dealer as I thought that the setting might be causing all the repairs needed. When I took the ring set back to Kay Jewelers for an inspection after six months, they told me that I would need $800.00 worth of repairs but that they would do them for $475.00. I knew this was incorrect so reclaimed my rings and went to our local and highly respected Jeweler, Bruce Carson Jewelers, also in Hagerstown, MD. The jeweler inspected the ring and that it was in great condition with no repairs needed. I could now kick myself for being so naive to believe these last ten years that both Ultra Diamonds and Kay Jewelers were honest with me. I have spent about as much in repairs as what the ring set cost. They were and obviously are running a scam on unsuspecting customers by telling them repairs are needed when they are not. I will never make another purchase at a chain jewelry store again.
