Disappointing Experience and Significant Change in Customer Service…read more I am writing this review to document my recent experience at this jewelry store, particularly because it was substantially different from my experience there several years ago. The ring I brought in was not simply an ordinary piece of jewelry. It was the engagement ring from a previous relationship and was originally purchased from Colonial Jewelers. Because of its sentimental and monetary value, I wanted to have it professionally evaluated for potential consignment or purchase. I chose to bring it here in part because of my previous experience with the store. When I visited the store years ago, I remember it having a festive, welcoming, and genuinely pleasant atmosphere. Unfortunately, my recent visit was markedly different. The environment felt cold and sterile, and the overall customer experience was lacking in warmth, engagement, and basic customer service. When I entered the store, several women were standing behind the jewelry counters. The employee assisting me took my ring to the counter and began preparing the intake paperwork and receipt. While I waited for her to finish, I found myself standing there somewhat awkwardly because no one was engaging with me or making any effort to interact. I eventually began casually perusing the jewelry in the display cases simply because I was unsure what else to do while I waited. I noticed a ring that I genuinely liked and mentioned to the employee that, just for fun, I would like to take a look at it. While looking at the ring, I attempted to make conversation and mentioned that my boyfriend has been talking about marriage, although I am not sure whether I want to get married again. The comment was met with silence. There was no effort to engage in conversation, ask about my interests, offer to size the ring, suggest that my boyfriend stop in, or mention other estate pieces or jewelry that I might enjoy seeing. I understand that not every customer is necessarily there to purchase something, and I am certainly not suggesting that I was entitled to a sales pitch. However, I do believe that basic hospitality and customer engagement are reasonable expectations in a jewelry store--particularly one I had previously remembered as having such a warm and inviting atmosphere. I was subsequently contacted by a woman from the store whose name I did not catch. She spoke extremely quickly, and I was not able to get her name. She advised me that Jeff, the owner, was not interested in purchasing or taking the piece on consignment because the store already had numerous similar pieces in its inventory. That decision is completely understandable, and I have no issue whatsoever with the store declining the piece. Businesses are entitled to make their own inventory decisions. What I found disappointing was that the conversation ended there and that there was no referral to another jeweler. The call was very abrupt and short. As a customer who had brought a valuable and sentimental item back to the original retailer for professional evaluation, I found the complete absence of assistance or direction disappointing and inconsistent with the level of customer service I would reasonably expect from an established jewelry business. I will be returning to the store soon to retrieve my ring, and I wanted to share my experience beforehand so that prospective customers can make their own informed decisions about what type of customer experience they may encounter. To be clear, this review is not about the fact that the store declined my jewelry. It is about how the interaction was handled. My experience was cold, disengaged, and significantly different from the welcoming environment I remembered from years ago. In my experience customer service and hospitality are particularly important in a business where customers are entrusting you with valuable and often sentimental items.

My mom has known the owners for more than 25 years. We only go there for any repairs. I took my mom's Movado watch in for a new battery. This is the first battery it's ever needed. The grandson reluctantly changed the battery and handed the watch back to me without even setting the time. And for some reason a piece of dust just appeared on the face of the watch that wasn't there before he opened it. He claimed that the dust was already there. I knew it certainly was not. Then he claimed that sometimes dust shows up when a watch is opened. Ok, then get it out! The smug twits don't offer to get the dust out or do anything to address my concern. I'm still kind to them because the owners wife is there and now she realizes that she knows my mother. She tells me that the battery is free of charge. I don't care about the battery charge, I want the watch returned looking the same way in which it was presented. Unfortunately I'll need to take the watch to a real jeweler now because the service at Gold Thumb is now trash.

I am extremely unhappy about the way I was treated by the male owner of this shop. I brought in a nameplate necklace that is 22k gold to have the chain shortened a bit. The necklace was to be shortened from the back!! Instead he took the necklace and made it shorter from the FRONT!! Now the loops look completely wonky and unattractive. The loops are not smooth and the nameplate just lifts up while I'm wearing it. When I took it back for them to look at it the male was extremely rude to me and tried to blame the mistake on my previous jeweler. I have attached photos of his shoddy work. I am so disappointed and will NEVER recommend this place to anyone.
