Because he doesn't speak English, the staff member assisting him was very rude and made him feel uncomfortable and disrespected. Donating blood should be a positive and inclusive experience for everyone, regardless of language barriers. Due to how he was treated, we decided not to donate at all. I hope in the future there is better training in customer service and more patience and understanding toward people who may not speak English fluently.

It's actually right next to the Play It Again Sports to the left of Publix in the shopping center by the Lake Square Mall. Usually my iron is too low to donate blood, so I stopped trying for several years. Recently I started taking a really good iron supplement and decided to give it a shot with The Big Red Bus. My whole blood donation went perfectly, so I thought "why not try platelets" while I wait for my next whole blood donation. Keep in mind that it's a double-stick and you'll be sitting for two to three hours, unable to move, which is really taxing for people with restless body issues or ADHD. You'll probably feel extremely cold, but they have heating pads and blankets. You can also watch whatever you'd like on a personal TV with headphones (to oneblood: please get the extended versions of LotR lol).

Would he have asked a woman if she had erectile dysfunction or prostate problems? So if you refuse to go along in any way with this woke transgender nonsense, I suggest you stay away from One blood. Let me add that the interviewer looked like they were still in High School. Rather than asking adults about their sex lives (which they did, and will do to you and record your answers into their database), they should be working as hamburger jockeys at McDonalds. I doubt you want to discuss your private sex life with a kid who looks like they just attended their senior prom. Now to the gift cards. Surprisingly, people aren't motivated to give their blood to a company that resells it a huge profit if the donors get nothing in return but 2 cookies. Shocking, right? So Oneblood offers gift cards - for a fraction of the amount that they make off you. But do you get them when you give blood? Nope. They publicize that you get an "egift card at donation." I bet you think an "egift card" is a gift card like any other gift card and that you can walk out of Oneblood and stop at a Starbucks to redeem it on your way home. Well, think again. An "egift card" is a piece of paper with a code on it. A day or two later after being asked if you are a pregnant man, you have to go online, enter your birthdate (I'm surprised they didn't ask me If I were a man who was presently breastfeeding and how many sex partners I've had in the last six months!), enter a 13 digit (!) code, and maybe if the site is working, you might get a gift card delivered to you. By that time, you and all the other possibly pregnant men will have lost your patience and sworn never to go through this nonsense again. I mean, what guy has the time if he's too busy giving birth, right? I will never donate blood again. I already knew the whole thing was a profit-making ripoff of average good-hearted people, but this experience just told me how much worse it is than that.

The Red Cross responds to local disasters on a daily basis, such as house fires, which occur many times a day in Greater Central Florida. Teams respond with compassion, care, and assistance for those impacted by a disaster. Working with multiple agencies, the Red Cross makes sure that victims of disaster are set up with immediate care for temporary housing, food, counseling and so much more. This local chapter in Orlando has an amazing team in place, balancing logistics, client care, volunteers and also offers a plethora of courses to the community in a variety of fields, such as certification for CPR/First Aid and more. The road to becoming a certified volunteer is rigorous and there are many courses to complete, but so very worth the time invested. This local chapter is so well managed and truly worthy of a 5 star rating. If you find yourself in need of assistance, please reach out to the Red Cross. If you are looking for a great place to volunteer, the Red Cross will help you find a good 'fit' for what you are looking to do. One of the techs was getting trained on the platelets technique, but even with that small bump, everyone was very professional, and I was acknowledged when I arrived and ready for my blood donation within an hour or so after my allotted time. Being two techs on site, they were smoothly getting folks prepped, set up on the machines, and out the door. I'm glad to know this location is available close to home. Will return for the next donation in a few months.
