Their website shows a physical address in NYC. I was told by an agent that they are 100% digital. I…read moreasked about their address and was told it has now changed. I asked if they have offices there, they said something about only seeing people by appointment. I asked if I could do that, they gave me a number to call. They never answer, always voicemail. They never call back, only email. You are not allowed to view the apartments, nor do they have video viewings. They seem to have the appearance of a respectable company at first, but if you ask for more that emails and for standard photos of the apartments, you might find that they will disappear. The agent I dealt with was very nice at first. She gave me a few links and an application form. The company the application was for has several reviews stating they are reluctant to return security deposits, and they want your card info included in the application. That was not reassuring. If you ask the agent for more reassurance, they might insinuate you're being evasive because you must have dealt with that company before and they rejected you. Absolutely not. This company is evasive and I don't feel they are 100% honest.

The service provided by New York Habitat, and especially by Nick Pugliese, was exceptional. There were some hiccups with the timing and location of the apartment I meant to lease, such that I ultimately didn't stay there--Nick worked diligently to secure a new tenant and get me my money back. Between his check-in calls and quick response times, I was extremely impressed by New York Habitat's professionalism, and would recommend them to anyone seeking a short-term rental.

So did I mention they don't have an elevator? Who thinks to ask if a hotel doesn't have an elevator? I thought I was playing a scene in "Barefoot in the Park" when Jane Fonda's mother collapses from walking up to her fifth-floor walk-up. But you can't knock a great location, close to not just Union Square but all the great eateries in the Lower East Side like Momofuku. And I was surprised that for all the congestion on 14th Street that the room is pretty quiet. It's just small and non-descript with a bathroom that was almost as big as the bedroom. I secured a double bed for two for about $172 on a Saturday night, so it is definitely one of the better deals in this part of Manhattan. Service is surprisingly nice there and very responsive to requests like getting a private car for the airport. They do serve a free continental breakfast, and unlike the croissants and Nutella you would find in Italian hotels, you see a massive pile of bagels and tubs of cream cheese for the taking. Hey, it ain't the Waldorf Astoria, but if you need a reasonably priced place to crash for a couple of nights in Manhattan, this place is worth checking out...but pack light lest you get a hernia!

It's decent. The…read morefact that there is no elevator sucks but they have people that will help you carry bags up/down your stairs. The rooms are quaint...I had the single with the queen sized bed with the most uncomfortable mattress. The bathrooms feels cramped tho. And figuring out the shower was like hacking a padlock trying to find that sweet spot of the mis-marked temperature settings. And it's one of those showers that you feel like you wouldn't want to be barefoot in. But positive points include convenient location to subway and union square. They secure the door that leads to the main stairway. And there is a water cooler. And I truly feel like that make efforts to make your stay comfortable. I probably wouldn't stay there unless I was on a super tight budget.

I think in the decades that I've visited the city, I've only gone to Wall Street as a tourist once! Yet somehow, during my most recent searches, I came across Mint House and decided to try it out based on the reviews. And boy, we were not disappointed! Mint House is located in an art deco building right smack in the middle of the financial district. I figured it would be quiet, because what nightlife would be around that area, right? Well, it was quiet, but it was fantastic! But it wasn't quiet that nothing was happening. There were still plenty of places to go to within the area. Black Fox Café is conveniently located on the first floor of the building. And there were many food options in the same building as well. From a Michelin starred restaurant to deli. And if you fancy it, you can even head to the rooftop bar! But the real star of the place is the actual rooms of the hotel. We had so much space in our studio that we didn't know what to do with it! We asked for a studio with two beds, and we absolutely loved that the beds were not next to each other. In fact, the other bed was located in a nook far away from the other bed, making it feel like it was a two bedroom space instead of a studio! We even had a full-size kitchen and a dining table for six that we didn't need. This was the first time in the many years we've traveled to the city that we had space to not only put our luggage, but also order in food, bring home food, keep it in the fridge and throw it in the microwave when we felt like it. Mint House is the unexpected favorite place we've ever stayed at, and we cannot wait to go back!
