TLDR: Incredible service. Wonderful food. Small menu that still has decent variety. No TVs inside. This place is a true hidden gem. I've come here twice and had a wonderful experience each time. Great service. Unfortunately on both occasions my party was only one of 2 or 3 other tables occupied in the restaurant. My most recent visit was on a Sunday (the day of the World Cup championship - which could explain the emptiness of the restaurant). Their main dining room didn't open until 5pm so we sat at a little table near the bar in the hotel lobby and ordered fries and drinks while we waited. The fries (not pictured) were skinny, crispy, and delicious. They came with a wonderful side of aioli sauce. More than enough for 2 people to share as a snack. Once we were seated inside, we both ordered the salmon. It was absolutely spectacular. We did not specify a temperature and the chef cooked it to absolute perfection. It came on a light bed of some sort of yogurt - which sounds questionable, but you just have to try it. It was amazing. The salmon also came with roasted zucchini and squash. It was topped with nuts so if you have an allergy make sure to keep that in mind. This is a nice restaurant but overall the vibes are very casual, you'd be fine in jeans and a decent top. It was a bit chilly inside, but that was much appreciated given how hot it was outside on this day. One important note is that this is not the place to come to watch sports. There's one TV near the bar that's outside of the main dining room and it's in somewhat of an awkward position. Overall 10 out of 10 experience, would definitely come back! read more

Mom's day out continues here for my two friends and I. Our friend picked this weekend n a recommendation and it was def a good one. Let's start with the staff, as they were the kindest and most fun. They offered us prosecco as our friend made the reservation she expressed it was a belated birthday celebration for our friend and they made note. It was actually very sweet. The place itself is chic, attached to a hotel, and gives a cool vibe. The food was new American and I had the pesto pasta and added salmon. The served Harney and Sons tea and you KNOW your girls loves her tea. The drinks themselves came out after our food which was a hit disappointing. It's located in the Motto by Hilton Times Square location. Servers run at their pace not yours. When you drinks do arrive, its well prepared. Go there for HH, and also if your staying at the Hilton, use your food/drink credit fully. Lobby and bar area is small, so appears crowded not intimate to enjoy a drink, sit at the bar closer to the street side, it's quieter. Would I go back? Jury is out. No verdict. read more

This hidden gem is memorable, and I will definitely be back soon. Be sure not to walk past The Alderman restaurant located in the Motto TimeSquare Hotel. I was very impressed by the prix fixe theater menu and our fantastic waiter, Ethan. The portions are generous, and the food is so delicious that you'll want to try everything. My family and I visited before seeing August Wilson's Joe Turner's Come and Gone. The food was served at perfect intervals, and our waiter, Ethan, clearly understood the assignment making sure we weren't late for the show. This is the restaurant located within Motto by Hilton New York Times Square hotel. I've dined here for breakfast twice during two separate stays at the Motto this year. The space is comfortable with a good ambiance. Service is good. Food is excellent. The price is pretty reasonable considering that it's inside a hotel in Manhattan. Only odd thing about them is that the stairs down to the hotel's gym is located inside the restaurant, so there's frequently people in gym cloth walking in and out. read more

We went to New York for 24hrs to watch a broadway show for our anniversary and made reservations for The Alderman for happy hour before the show. When we arrived the Host, Victor, was not very welcoming. Once we sat down the server, Donovan, informed us that we couldn't do happy hour, that it was only at the lounge. We said it was fine and that we would move to the lounge. He then came back and said we couldn't move because it was full. Then he said let me see if we can make an exception for you guys and honor happy hour here. First the Victor said no and then said yes and came by the table twice to let it be known that they NEVER make these exceptions for anyone. We were very thankful, but it wasn't necessary to keep reminding us. We went to order our first cocktail and they didn't have it. We ordered wine and an espresso martini, cold stuffed mushrooms, fries and closed out. When we closed out Victor asked why we're leaving and we said it was because we had a show at 7pm and it was 6:15 in which he proceeded to get upset about that and tells us "you know you still have time right?!". We said thanks and left. Oh, but they did send us bread on the house, which was probably the only good thing we had. Look, do I recommend the place? Sure. It's cute inside, low lights, pure date night vibes. Donovan was great and we felt bad because he was taking the heat from Victor for everything. Would I go again? Probably not. read more

The Alderman is tucked away almost like a speakeasy in the Motto hotel and is a perfect dining option when going to the theater. Because it's in a hotel, it offers all meals, but we opted for brunch on a Saturday before a matinee. Luz was an amazing server and gave us time to catch up before ordering. We opted to split the biscuits and then omelet and asparagus to have items that were a little bit lighter. Everything was phenomenal but if I had to choose one dish that stood out, the omelet was really special. We still had time to kill so we waited the 12 minutes for the freshly baked cookies. "Hidden Oddity" Not sure I recommend this quirky restaurant that is quite large hidden inside a small door off Times Square and then hidden inside a reception area. Could be a great speakeasy but totally not intentional. I have some mixed feelings about this place and certainly only would consider it in the context of being a red herring in a swamp of ugly ducklings. Didn't realize that you can't have happy hour if you make a reservation, because it's only in the lounge, not the sit-down restaurant room. A friend and I both ordered the steak, and it was very bland, nothing special, and needed a garnish or something. The Caesar salad tasted weird, and the lemonade was not good. Very expensive for middle-of-the-line food. I never write reviews, but I just wish we hadn't wasted our time and money at this restaurant during our short trip to NYC. read more

Wonderful bar and restaurant in Times Square area. What at first caught my eye was the bakery/coffee area, but upon further inspection saw there was a bar and restaurant as well. There's also a hotel connected to it; The Motto. The bar tender, Francis, was amazing and got us hooked on his own curated cocktail; The Rocket. The restaurant was also a surprisingly beautiful space with the most delicious Garlic Bread I've ever tasted. The manager, Isabel, was accommodating and gave great menu recommendations. This is located inside the Motto by Hilton Times Square on the lobby floor. I only visited the bar area along with the coffee bar, and not the restaurant. The bar are is quaint and right next to the check-in area the bar tender was friendly and provided recommendations however didn't offer his name, so I'm unable to provide that. We had a round of drinks and I grabbed a coffee (drip) and pastry the morning of check out. All around nice service and did get a glimpse of the food from the patrons next to us and it looked pretty tasty. Wish I had more time to partake. read more

TERRIBLE FOOD & SERVICE!!! First we had to ask to see the pre-theater menu. Then we were told we were given the old menu, then they didn't have enough menus so we shared. Then we waited so long for them to bring one of the drinks. My salmon was so under cooked it was barely edible. The asparagus was cut into little tiny pieces. I was brought the wrong dessert & had to wait so long for the correct one that I had to ask to take it to go. I mentioned a cup of coffee & was told it would be a while. Even with the $10 per night room credit per night, I still wouldn't recommend coming here. First day here, my gf and I got a hot chocolate ($9) and a chocolate brioche roll ($5). The brioche roll tasted stale and was lacking any flavor (couldn't taste any chocolate). Day two, thought we'd give them another try. Got a seasonal beer during happy hour for ($8) and a my gf got a Coca Cola ($7). The price for the bottle of Coca Cola was rather extreme. Day three of giving them another chance... We came during happy hour again. This time, I decided not to get anything but my gf got a cider ($14). Doesn't seem like a reasonable price to me. We still have a few more night here and a few more $10 credits but I think I'd rather let them go unused. Paid enough for the hotel, don't need to keep running up the bill. read more

Loved my pre-theater dining experience here. Opted for a two starters - the pickled Italian veggies and the everything flatbread and babaganoush, which were both wonderful) and a Jasmine Spritz. For my main, I had a perfectly prepared sea bass which was outstanding and the maitake mushrooms as a side that I loved so much I'd order two of them next go around. Our server Kara was lovely and super informative and the dining room was spacious and stunning. I asked if it could be lowered and our waiter said he'd try but the music was controlled by the hotel the restaurant's inside of. The music level was never lowered and because of that, our meal was the opposite of relaxing. I had the smash burger but it wasn't really a smash burger; it was just a thinner-than-average burger. Such a beautiful space. I visited last night with a friend after attending a Wicked event and it was in such proximity to all the Broadway fun we stopped for a bite. The new Pre-theater menu was perfect and had lots of delicious options like the Parker Rolls to start, from the Herb Salad to the Skirt Steak, everything was perfectly prepared and came with its own unique and yummy flavor profile. Very cute spot, but service was lacking and food was just OK. We had a reservation and literally waited 15 minutes for someone to greet us at the host stand. There were only a few tables that were full at that time. Major issue I had with the food is there were major ingredients/sauces missing from the description written on the menu. Bolognese lasagna had a citrus salsa as a layer on top (what?!) that was not mentioned. Would have been good without it, the salsa ruined it. The flat iron steak had a sauce which was not mentioned on the menu and lastly the salmon had a different sauce than what was listed. Not sure if the chef was going rogue, but I find it unacceptable. You should be fully aware of what you will be receiving especially if someone were to have allergies It ruined it for all of us. On top of it they added a 25% gratuity. I have seen 18 or 20 but 25% is ridiculous especially considering our server was rarely around. We spent $400 here. I would not recommend this restaurant in its current state. Very disappointed. I also find it odd several of the 5 star reviews raving about the place are from reviewers with ONE review and all sound very similar. read more

We were very excited to visit The Alderman, as recommended by a friend. Upon entering, the ambiance was perfect. The server quickly took our order for beverages but the experience went downhill after that. Of particular disappointment were the mains. Service was very choppy and the food mediocre at best. Our beverages were not topped up until after we completed our meal. Dirty plates from starters were not picked up until we asked for them to be picked up. Some of us were missing cutlery and had to wait until our meals were cold to receive them. Water seemed to be a premium. Our server was very aloof and seemed annoyed with us throughout most of the meal, when she came to our table at all. Very poor service and mediocre food sums up our experience. read more
