The Scarlett Vetter says....I needed a place to stay in the financial district and happened upon this place. I was so very happy that I did. The hotel has a very cool vibe. My room was very spacious and had a great kitchen, spacious table, and a sitting lounge. The bed was super comfortable. It was quiet, and the room had good technology and some eclectic things like a record player. The business center was a life saver. I am definitely staying here again. I felt very safe as well. The price point for the amenities was excellent!

Excellent place. A friend of mine rented a two bedroom suite here for her birthday. I used to work nearby, but I was totally unaware of this place-- it' appeared to be a mixed use building. I'm not sure if they have offices here, but it's hotel rentals, but also some folks live here. (I will revisit this later) The front desk staff was very cordial when my friend and I arrived. My friend who was celebrating her birthday sent me the code that is needed to get the elevator to go upstairs. The room itself was very spacious and very modern-- they even had a record player, which was a nice touch. After about an hour, we have a knock at the door. It's almost midnight, at this point. I hear it was security asking everyone to quiet down. Shortly thereafter, one of the people who lived here comes by and she's complaining about the noise, again. She apparently had called security many times over-- they explained we would attempt to quiet down, however, it was a birthday party. This is when I first became aware people lived here, which I then understood why she was complaining because I thought it was all hotel rentals. Security returned about 30 minutes later-- they said they would no longer come back because they understood it was a birthday party. Yet, the same woman came by again and I decided to speak to her myself. I explained it was about 15-20 people inside and I would attempt to get everyone to quiet down, which attempts were made to do so. For the reason explained above, I would not say this is a place for a party, but I would certainly stay here for a staycation.

Does it really look like on the pictures? Seems too good to be true.

Believe it! The Lyric Design Team spent a lot of time to make sure our Creative Suites match the personality of New York as well as the land-marked 70 Pine building!

From the kitchen, to the walk-in closet to the record player I could not get over how amazing my room was.

I asked if they have offices there, they said something about only seeing people by appointment. I asked if I could do that, they gave me a number to call. They never answer, always voicemail. They never call back, only email. You are not allowed to view the apartments, nor do they have video viewings. They seem to have the appearance of a respectable company at first, but if you ask for more that emails and for standard photos of the apartments, you might find that they will disappear. The agent I dealt with was very nice at first. She gave me a few links and an application form. The company the application was for has several reviews stating they are reluctant to return security deposits, and they want your card info included in the application. That was not reassuring. If you ask the agent for more reassurance, they might insinuate you're being evasive because you must have dealt with that company before and they rejected you. Absolutely not. This company is evasive and I don't feel they are 100% honest.

The service provided by New York Habitat, and especially by Nick Pugliese, was exceptional. What…read moreparticularly struck me was how attentive and helpful Nick was, even through bumps in the road. There were some hiccups with the timing and location of the apartment I meant to lease, such that I ultimately didn't stay there--Nick worked diligently to secure a new tenant and get me my money back. Between his check-in calls and quick response times, I was extremely impressed by New York Habitat's professionalism, and would recommend them to anyone seeking a short-term rental.

So did I mention they don't have an elevator? Who thinks to ask if a hotel doesn't have an elevator? I thought I was playing a scene in "Barefoot in the Park" when Jane Fonda's mother collapses from walking up to her fifth-floor walk-up. But you can't knock a great location, close to not just Union Square but all the great eateries in the Lower East Side like Momofuku. And I was surprised that for all the congestion on 14th Street that the room is pretty quiet. It's just small and non-descript with a bathroom that was almost as big as the bedroom. I secured a double bed for two for about $172 on a Saturday night, so it is definitely one of the better deals in this part of Manhattan. Service is surprisingly nice there and very responsive to requests like getting a private car for the airport. They do serve a free continental breakfast, and unlike the croissants and Nutella you would find in Italian hotels, you see a massive pile of bagels and tubs of cream cheese for the taking. Hey, it ain't the Waldorf Astoria, but if you need a reasonably priced place to crash for a couple of nights in Manhattan, this place is worth checking out...but pack light lest you get a hernia!

The rooms are quaint...I had the single with the queen sized bed with the most uncomfortable mattress. The bathrooms feels cramped tho. And figuring out the shower was like hacking a padlock trying to find that sweet spot of the mis-marked temperature settings. And it's one of those showers that you feel like you wouldn't want to be barefoot in. But positive points include convenient location to subway and union square. They secure the door that leads to the main stairway. And there is a water cooler. And I truly feel like that make efforts to make your stay comfortable. I probably wouldn't stay there unless I was on a super tight budget.
