Now let's talk about the FOOD! I ordered the Oxtail Kare Kare, and WOW. The oxtail literally fell right off the bone -- so tender, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The vegetables were fresh and paired beautifully with the dish. And one of my favorite touches was that the chef makes her own homemade bagoong, which paired SO well with the Kare Kare. That extra touch really brought all the flavors together! But my absolute favorite was the Atlantic Park Sunrise! First time here today and what a treat! This is such a beautifully decorated restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating. Our server was so kind and made us feel welcome. Although I lived in Red Mill for over a decade, I was never able to visit the original location in that shopping center, so this was a first for us. We came in on a Friday night and easily parked in the attached garage (QR code ease for parking). Wow started with the chicken empanadas and boy, were they yummy. Soooo hot and fresh, you could tell they were made to order (it took a minute to get them). So worth the wait! We devoured them and the breading was heavenly. I chose the Chicken Pancit Bihon (rice noodles) for my entree and my husband went with the Sizzling Sisig (minced pork and onion). Both were hot and fresh but my husband's dish was to DIE for! Sooooo good, I am for sure going to order it next time. The seasoning was perfect, hot and delicious. Yum! We had plans to take our daughter out for dessert for her birthday or I would've absolutely been trying one of those Ube shakes... noms! Next time! We were looking for authentic Filipino food near the boardwalk, and this spot was just a quick ride away. While parking was a bit tricky, choosing Only at Renee's was 100% the right move! From the moment we walked in, the ambiance felt nostalgic yet fresh, blending traditional Filipino decor with modern touches. The restaurant was clean, welcoming, and had a wonderful sense of openness and community. As soon as we were seated, the staff kindly pointed out the restrooms and let us know that self-serve ice water and extra napkins were readily available in the center of the room. A special shoutout to Paulina and Xavier--they were exceptionally warm, friendly, and helpful throughout our meal! The menu offers an incredible variety. Next time, we'll know to order a bit less for our young kids--the portions were much larger than expected! We definitely aren't complaining, though, especially since our hotel room had a microwave for delicious leftovers. Even our little ones thoroughly enjoyed their meals. So we used to go the Red Mill location for years. This new Oceanfront location is more spacious and beautifully decorated. They no longer have servers to take your order. They are moving to the trend of ordering from a kiosk. I truly want this business to be successful but they definitely don't have the staff ratio to support the business. It's a lengthy wait for food and a little less interaction with staff. They just opened on May 5th 2026 and we are here almost 20 days after their grand opening and it seems they are still working the kinks out. I still love the food though. There is a bar, indoor seating and outdoor seating. It was tough to decide what to order but we decided on the Chicken Pancit and BBQ Chicken Bowl. It took no time at all to get our food. Food was good overall otherwise, we had party of 9 and we went during Father's Day weekend early before the crowd rush. Water and ice wasn't fully stocked, which you had to get as self served. The problem I had was the waiting time was long but at the same time, we felt we were being rushed by the waiter to order due to its going to be busy. However, still had to wait for our food after being told to hurry up and order. While we waited for a while to receive our food we watched to see how busy it was suppose to get after the waiter told us to hurry up and place our order which we didn't see the area get crowded at all. Came in on a rainy day, right when it opened and they were so friendly greeting us in Tagalog, which added to the ambience. I ordered the Adobo Fried Rice and Pork Tocino. I couldn't really taste the adobo much in the fried rice, so I would skip on the extra dollar for it. The Tocino came in a large portion which was amazing. October is Filipino American History Month, so my friends and I decided to check out Only at Renee's. According to their sign outside, the cuisine is inspired by the city of Pampanga. It's a small establishment, and when you walk in, you are transported to a night market perhaps (?) or the feel of someone's home. Super cozy! There are straw baskets in a variety of different shapes, sizes and designs adorning the walls and friendly staff. - Parking - Center lot. - Sips - Melon juice - this was so refreshing! It reminded me of a cantaloupe agua fresca, but here, they also add shredded cantaloupe in it. I could probably drink gallons of it! Sago't gulaman - this was my least favorite of the drinks. From the description, it truly is exactly that, sugared water with some toppings in it. I would not get this again. Calamansi crush - another winner! So refreshing! For those who are not familiar, calamansi is a Philippine lime, a citrus fruit that has a green peel, but has an almost tangerine like interior. It's so good, and they add a bit of crushed ice (not too much), so it keeps it cold, but it's also not a slushie. I would drink gallons of this too! - Noms - Sizzling inihaw na pusit: sizzling grilled squid garnished with onions and bell peppers⁠. The size of this squid was HUGE. It was grilled, so it had the char taste which was delish, and served with a vinegar-based chili dipping sauce. So delicious! Oxtail kare-kare: oxtails stewed in a creamy, peanut sauce with eggplant, green beans, and bok choy⁠. This was my least favorite dish. I have had kare kare once before, so I don't really have anything else to compare it to (it wasn't the best either). I think I just don't like the dish. It's super heavy and maybe I should have mixed some shrimp paste in the sauce to add more umami, but I think I just don't like the rich and heavy nature of the dish. No shade on the dish, as I know it's a favorite for many. The presentation and the quality of the ingredients were from what I could tell was far superior than the previous experience of my first kare kare dish. I normally love oxtails, but this preparation is just not for me, I think! Fried street food - platter of lumpiang Shanghai, fish balls, longanisa, fried pork belly, marinated angus beef, sweet plantains, and fries⁠. This is my type of plate which has a little bit of everything! Definitely great for sharing! Garlicky fried eggplant: grilled whole with garlic⁠. I just love eggplant and garlic, so this was a killer combo. Garlic fried rice: Filipinos are speaking to my Korean heart with this dish! I have recently discovered Filipino breakfasts and the starring role is the garlic fried rice. Only at Renee's is beautifully presented with some red onions on top! Good to soak up any sauces you have from the other dishes! Halo halo: in Tagalog, meaning "mix mix", it's a combination of crushed ice, evaporated milk, fruits, and homemade ingredients. ⁠As if all the things we ordered weren't enough, we had to end the meal with a grand finale. Halo halo reminds me of a Filipino version of a Korean shaved ice dessert called patbingsoo. I think most Asian countries have their own versions of this. Halo halo was a party of flavors from starchy to fruity, to icy and creamy and even the puffed cereal-like topping! I have heard that the owner's parents actually have a popular restaurant in NY and was the inspiration behind the opening of this restaurant. Love that they decided to bring it to the 757! Wasted time driving here from Chesapeake to eat here only to find out they are closed for a few days. It is their right to close whenever they want/need to however it is their responsibility to the consumer to ensure we are informed of their closures and update the websites like Yelp and Google business to ensure that they show the store is closed. We had two families with us and while we were deciding where to eat in the middle of the heat, there were four other families that showed up hoping they were open. It took them over 15 minutes to get our beverages, I understand it gets busy but we didn't even get the water jug (that we have to serve ourselves) or utensils until asking multiple times. The plate wasn't large but everyone got a taste. I actually like mine with more vinegar and peppercorns. The beef tapa was a little dry to me. It wasn't a big plate. The lechon kawali was crispy and succulent. I like the sauce that accompanied it. The sweet and sour fish was excellent. I wish I could eat more. The sauce was just right and the fish was tender. The pancit bihon was just okay for me. I'm not a fan of pancit too much. And we ordered 2 medium platters for our party of 10. It was huge and we barely made a dent. So just get one order. I really wanted to like this place I really did but unfortunately it was honestly disappointing. I saw really good reviews so I was hoping it would be good in regards to both food & experience but it was really average at most & the service was not very great at all. I generally don't notice service too much but I do have a few comments for the first time in awhile. Service: The person who welcomed us in with friendly but told us to wait outside while he cleaned up. It was 100 degrees outside but we still waited outside and he never got called in so we walked in to wait again after about 10 minutes. Once we got our table, he gave us the notepad to write our order on which we thought was odd. It was forgotten and a different server had to get it. When we did get our food finally (it's a bit of wait - I assume it's understaffed), it came separately. Not sure if that was on purpose or if they don't have room back in the kitchen to hold the food but I think it would make more sense if the food came out together for an order? It seemed really disorganized so we would get different components as different times and end up waiting more anyways like the rice which is needed for meal. Food: The food was alright. I enjoyed it but I think my fish would have been better if there was something to dip it in? I've had similar dishes at other Filipino restaurants and there's usually something to dip the fish in so I was surprised. It's filling but in the expensive side. While in the Norfolk-Virginia Beach area, I knew I had to find Filipino food since each has a sister city in the Philippines: Cagayan De Oro and Olongolapo. Only at Renee's ~ a Taste of Pampanga, Philippines won me over! (Funny enough, with a sister restaurant, Renee's Kitchenette, in New York's Little Manila, in Woodside, Queens). Renee and her husband were incredibly accommodating, recommending their favorites and explaining the menu in great detail. The place felt like a homely, tropical beachside oasis with Filipino pop music and beachy decor (right inside a suburban strip mall). The Oxtail Kare Kare with bok choy, eggplant, and green beans smothered in a peanut coconut milk sauce was exquisite. The Hot Stone Tea was enlightening with its sweet, spicy, and citrusy notes from ginger, turmeric, and calamansi. I finished with the Warm Ube Con Heilo, a delicious layering of warm, sweet purple yam topped with cold evaporated milk, shaved ice, and coconut flakes. The chef could've easily thrown together prepackaged longanisa and sauces from the Asian grocery store but making their own... this makes all the difference. For example: The chili sauce for the lumpia and Mang Tomas-esque sauce for lechon kalawi are dynamite. The garlic fried rice made spicy felt new to me. The perfect spice blends in the lumpia filling, the sugary savory longanisa and tocino; the earthy sisig. So accurate and yet a notch above; so good. The hot calamansi was a revelation to me; I've known this citrus (my Dad's favorite) all my life, but never had it in hot tea form. If that isn't elevated comfort, I don't know what is. Not good and, IMHO, not authentic! The ambiance was excellent, with mellow classic Filipino songs, and the decor was on par. The rest, not so much. The price does NOT align with service and quality. For example, the beef kaldereta was watery with vegetables that seemed similar to frozen peas and carrots you find at grocery stores, there was a huge chunk of fat that should not have been served to paying customers, and the traditional spices were undetectable as it was bland like hospital food. The dinuguan was sweet (why?), the consistency was watery (why?), and it was bland, like baby food. The shanghai lumpia was ok; the menu says it's ten pieces, but more like 2-3 average size lumpia cut into ten pieces. Also, you're given a menu and a writing pad; customers are instructed to write down their order and take it to the front counter, which equals to zero hospitality (IMHO). We were disappointed with the meal but had high hopes for dessert. Yes, halo-halo, $10 apiece. Looks great, but as they say, looks can be deceiving. We didn't finish it! The worst halo-halo I've ever had! The bangketa in any Philippine street is better. The halo-halo did not have the essential ingredients, i.e., kaong, coconut gels, red sweet beans, langka, etc. it also had vanilla-like ice cream on top and mushed green peas as an ingredient. Wow! We were unbelievably disappointed. I'm a foodie, and the mantra should be - if you can't serve it with proper ingredients, then don't serve it at all. I have been to many Filipino restaurants and eateries in the VA Beach area, and I must say, IMHO, "only at Renee" is possibly at the very bottom of the list. I find the ambiance at Only at Renee's to be really amusing with their decor baskets almost taking you to the Philippines. When I came here with my family we were determined to try a few items off their menu: Drinks: -Sago at Gulaman -Calamansi Crush -Calamansi Iced tea Food: -Oxtail Kare Kare -Pork Sinigang -Sizzling Sisig -Mixed Fried Street Food -Longanisa Fried Rice Dessert: -Ube Shake - Signature Craft Coffee Shake For starters, you are to write down your orders on a notepad provided and bring it up to the cashier to place your order. I do love crushed ice, but it was a real inconvenience as I was drinking their delicious calamansi iced tea, which btw was a tad bit sweet. As for the food, I highly recommend their Longanisa Fried Rice. Such a hearty meal especially with the over easy egg on top. I could literally just eat that dish and call it a meal. As for the other dishes my next favorite was the sizzling sisig not a big on adding egg directly in my sisig, but this was delicious. The Mixed Fried Street Food was good, but they do often change their items than what is mentioned on their menu. The mixed dish had included fries and kamote, which was ok. As for dessert, their Ube Shake was good very reminiscent of when Jollibee had their Ube Pearl Cooler (sadly they no longer serve that on their menu). Overall, I would recommend Only at Renee's to friends and family as a great Filipino restaurant option here in Virginia Beach. read more

Simply amazing! You walk in and the restaurant has beautiful decor, plants, and a cute seating area. I ordered the Lechon and got to try the Sisig. Food is so tasteful, authentic, and quite a wonderful experience. I've been craving the food ever since my visit to Only at Renee's. I also got the stone tea , it has a sweet tangy aroma, and it just feels so healing with each sip. Servers are attentive and helpful. The place is clean and again as I said before beautiful. Parking is ample. I plan to visit Only at Renee's soon because their food is simply irresistible! read more
