Top-notch service. My Mac was in a never-ending re-start cycle when I installed a new Operating System. I brought it in and the person at the front desk tried various things out for 15-20 minutes, eventually solving the issue. They easily could've taken the computer in back and added to the queue. Instead, they were able to graciously take care of everything while I waited. What a hidden gem Onyx Consulting is! My Macbook had been painfully slowing down for a long time and a colleague told me that I probably needed to get my RAM upgraded. I am a total dumb techie and didn't know what questions to ask. I called on the phone and was given great info about what I needed to do. I came in and what I really liked, apart from the friendly and kind service, is that I was told that I could get away with upgrading to 8 GB for $99 instead of 10 GB for more than that, because performance-wise 8 vs 10 wouldn't do much for me. I really appreciated that they were honest about the sale and proved that they weren't trying to make a quick buck off of me. My service was done in lightning speed time and it was such a more calm and professional experience versus going to a crazy, impersonal madhouse like the Geek Squad at Best Buy or Frye's or Apple. I just had my second great experience at Onyx. About 2 months ago I had my charging port in my MacBook go bad. Instead of trucking all the way into Atlanta into a genius bar- Apple told me I could go to Onyx right down the road from me. They were prompt, courteous and best of all- had my laptop sent off to Apple and back to me in the same exact time it would of taken the genius bar to do it. Then today I got something stuck in the charging port on my iPhone. I called to get a quote because of my previous great service- when Ben told me "just bring it on in now- no charge- and we will see if we can get it out for you". 15 min later I am back home with my phone back to all its glory. Onyx consulting definitely was there when I needed them especially with my warranty running out only days after the issue occurred. My MacBook Pro trackpad was giving me issues and my own attempts to solve the issue resulted in me cracking the trackpad. Originally the issue was because I was unable to click on anything right or left. I went there on Monday morning around 10AM and got a consult. Trackpad needed replacement but Onyx did state that other parts may need replacement and would let me know via phone call. The part itself was in stock and they did give me an option to rush the order for a fee. As a college student on a budget with an old back up, I declined and decided to wait. I was in no rush at the time and really needed to save some money. Their pricing was very fair as they would charge for the part used and the labor. They promised me Friday and I could call them Wednesday or Thursday to see if they had started working on my MacBook. Wednesday afternoon, I received a call from Onyx informing me that the trackpad not only needed replacement but the top case where the keyboard was. They gave me the adjusted quote and I was okay with it and they informed that the part would need to be ordered but would be ready by Thursday to pick up. Thursday morning before noon, Onyx called and informed me my MacBook was ready. I came in and they greeted me and let me see how the MacBook was doing ensuring that the keyboard and trackpad were in perfect condition. The total price was still more fair than what Apple asked for and were helpful if I had any questions. Onyx was recommended to me after I called Apple. Apple had given me a standard flat rate of more than $400 to be shipped back within 5-7 working days. The flat rate would have covered any parts that needed to be replaced for the repair after I asked Onyx. Apple had not explained to me why it was over $400. I had only assumed it was a trackpad replacement only. My total price was still less expensive compared to Apple and more time efficient for four days. Decatur is nowhere close to me but It was the closest onyx branch and it gave me a good impression. I live in Clayton County and while there are several shops to fix computers, none of them are Apple certified. Onyx being Apple certified means that will use genuine parts which is reassuring because you know the part is made for Apple products. While I was in no rush, I still did want my MacBook Pro soon as I was starting school soon and most of the courses on campus require use of a computer and while I do have my old HP, it's old and runs slower than I needed. I was pretty surprised the repair was quick. It was only a day difference form what they estimated because Onyx does first come, first serve queue unless you opt in for the rush fee but it still gave me a good impression on how honest they are. They were really considerate cause I had an old Wonder Woman sticker on the top case of the keyboard and removed it and put it on the new one. I can't think of many places where they would even think to do that since it was just a sticker. Overall I had a really good experience at Onyx and would go there for any future repairs. I would recommend Onyx for any MacBook or Apple issues. Their prices are fair and they will try to help you out the best they can. read more

Based on what an Apple employee at the Lenox Mall told me, my MacBook Air Display cable was physically damaged by an Onyx employee who claimed no responsibility at first. I went on Yelp just to warn people but surprisingly this led one of the owners to contact me to "make things right." While I wish this hadn't happened in the first place at least the situation was rectified - and swiftly at that. Maybe consider screening for this type of employee behavior in interviews. It's not a totally abnormal situation. People skills are important in addition to hardware skills. They do charge a $50 diagnostic fee and $100 per hour for labor whereas the Apple store charges $39 per hour and will diagnose issues for free. Granted you might go insane traveling to and around the mall. read more

Had a tricky issue with a pc that kept crashing whenever I played games on it. After taking it to a couple other repair places closer to me that misdiagnosed the problem and tried to sell me upgrades, I gave Onyx consulting a try. They first replaced my graphics card, but the problem persisted for me so I took it back and they determined the cause was heat damage to my motherboard. They gave me a full refund for parts & labor on the first repair, replaced the motherboard and put in new fans within a day of receiving the new part. My PC is finally running great! I was very impressed by the honesty, expertise and tenacity of the repair techs here. Onyx is the only place I found that was able to do this repair and it was all done for a fair price. When my MacBook Air bit the dust this week I made the trek to the Apple Store at Lenox, where I was told there was a 5-hour wait for an appointment. Neighbors suggested I take it to Onyx in Decatur, and I am SO glad I did. My laptop was dead, but they showed me the cause, made suggestions, and in the end I ordered a new MacBook at 4 p.m. Monday. My MacBook Pro is considered vintage but is still in pretty good shape considering the age. I took it into Onyx (Decatur) because the battery had swollen and pushed up my trackpad. Ben R. assisted me and they had my battery in stock. He changed my battery quicker than I had time to process what was actually wrong. I also needed a new charging cord and that was on site as well. I spent a maximum of 30 minutes in the location and all of my problems were fixed that quick. The prices are also reasonable as I had been quoted much higher prices for the repair. In addition to this, Ben R. also took time to answer some other questions that I had about the computer, external memory and other things. Travel back in time with me to 2009-ish. After a short MARTA trip out to Decatur, I rolled into this place because the fan on my macbook sounded like a space shuttle ready for lift-off. Right off the bat, I liked the minimalist vibe of the place---crisp and clean, but no frills. Then I was greeted with excellent customer service, and within a few minutes I was on my way, impressed with the lack of pain in the whole process. Then, even better, by the next afternoon they had repaired everything---at what I recall as being a very reasonable rate---and I never ended up hearing another peep out of the fan. None of this was truly astonishing, but I was impressed. I even had an urge to write a yelp review applauding them, but coming from NYC, I noticed how yelp really wasn't a thing yet, and... well, laziness got the best of me. Now fast forward to a few months ago, more than 4 years later. After a long day at the library, I had an unexpected voicemail from Justin of Onyx Consulting in Atlanta telling me that I had won a brand new iPad Mini in Onyx's monthly raffle for over 5000 customers subscribed to it's email newsletter, and I just needed to swing by the Decatur branch to pick it up. Sounds like great news, right? Problem: now I live in NYC again. So I called up Justin semi-bummed out, expecting that if I ended up getting the Mini at all, it would only be after a hassle. But Justin made my day, insisting that my new location was no problem, that he'd have the packed shipped up to me first thing, and that he'd happily cover the shipping costs. Sure enough, within a few days, my prize had arrived. Talk about an unmixed blessing! Set aside the fact that they just give out iPad Mini's to their customers on a monthly basis. And set aside the fact that I was only a one time customer, having not been in the store in many years. What I'm really stunned by is Onyx's integrity. I had won their raffle, sure. But they could have easily just insisted that I needed to pick the prize up in person. Yet they didn't---they went the extra mile, sticking to their word, making sure I got my prize. I was directed by Apple support for battery replacement for my MacBook Pro 09. I called and asked about battery on Tuesday also gave serial number so they can let me know whether they have one that will work. The guy stated that they didn't have any in stock but will be ordering and to come in that Thursday. Being that I work, I asked to make an appointment. He stated it won't be necessary. I also asked price. He stated $109 for battery and installation would be $20-$30. I don't recall exact price for that part. But I was fine with that price. Thursday comes and I leave work to go and upon arrival they only have an Apple branded battery, which clearly was more expensive. I stated the interaction over the phone and explained what was stated to me. They tried to make it seem as if I was lying. I wouldn't waste 30 min drive in rush hour and raining traffic just to be turned away. This was poor service. The tech walked off. I asked a woman sitting there if he was done and he comes back with another guy and he too said I must have misunderstood. If someone says to come in on Thursday and I asked about an appointment I don't see where I would make that up. I even showed him my call that I made to the correct store and phone number. I'm beyond disappointed because the battery was needed for work so it was urgent. I called to make sure to avoid this. I left work early as well. Such an inconvenience and to be made out to be a liar was pretty disappointing being that Apple support directed me to them. I asked pricing because that is exactly what I would have. I've been going there for a few years now. I have finally decided that it's pretty pointless going to the Apple Knowitall bar, they never have availability. My computer is my business when it doesn't work, I can't work. So if it's an easy fix I don't have to wait for a Genius to finish teaching a soccer mom how to use itunes. After having crashing problems for over a year with my Mac and being told by everyone online I owned a boat anchor, I finally decided to look locally for a fix. I tried two other places and were turned down or just plain ignored, then a friend suggested Onyx. I was cautious but figured why not. Less than 20 minutes after my initial email I got a response, very detailed, helpful, and thorough. Awesome. I had mailed the Northcrest location, but they suggested due to where I live to try Decatur and they would forward my email on over. I went in on a Friday and dropped it off, they were busy but assured me they'd have an answer within two business days. Tuesday I got a reply, the computer was running fine, had not crashed, and could I give more details. I did, brought in my keyboard and mouse as well, and they continued diagnostics, but simply could not get it to act up. For $40 I was a little bummed, but appreciated their efforts, courtesy, and willingness to assist. It crashed as soon as I got home of course, but since has been running flawlessly, and even a few little issues I hadn't mentioned are gone, so their steps to diagnose must have cleaned out something. I've been in contact since with a few minor questions and they are always answered within a few hours. So although I can't say they fixed my problem, they did indeed do what they said and were extremely professional the whole way through, and the computer is working better now than it has in a few years. For the price there is no way I can complain, I expected them to just tell me to save up and buy a new one or drop a paycheck's worth of funds into repairs, they did neither. Last week, a message popped up on my MacBook Pro saying that it was about to crash and that I needed to click "OK" to be directed to the company who could prevent the disappearance of all of my treasured files and programs. I knew enough NOT to click "OK" and turned off my Mac hoping the message would disappear when I rebooted. It didn't. The next time I did this, nothing came up on my screen. This is when I got in my car and drove to Onyx Consulting in Decatur. Two people had referred me to them. I walked in the door and was greeted immediately by Armin. He got it running on his first try and explained to me in non-tech speak what had happened. He re-started my precious machine a couple of more times to make sure the problem had been addressed and ran a virus check. He showed me how I can do all of these things on my own at home. I figured while I was there I would tell him I was concerned about all of the spinning balls I had been getting lately. He ran a couple of checks and recommended that I increase my RAM. I purchased it, he installed it and boom! after a couple of times of starting it back up, my MacBook Pro is like new. I walked out of there having spent only a tiny fraction of what I had anticipated it would cost me. I stopped back by the next day to ask some more questions about upgrading memory and spoke with Pavle. He was also tremendously helpful and explained things to me in lay person's terms. My mac would turn on but the screen would either have static or stay blank. I took it to Apple and they said I'd need to get a new part that would range from $350 - $500+. I heard about Onyx and wanted to see if they new something Apple didn't... and they did. The guy reset something and ran a diagnostic and its up and running, along with a better charger.
