I love Onyx for its proximity to campus and the college discount, but I also like the results I get most of the time. While I don't get my nails done often, I usually like my results when I come here on occasion. I will say, it really depends on who's helping. I have only had one lady who truly did an exceptional job (but I can't remember her name!) no one really compares to her work though. She did Cateye nails for me and PERFECTLY nailed the execution. Since then, I've had less success with my nail techs which makes me reluctant to go back since it's more of a gamble for results In happy will. I have been coming to this nail salon for about 2 years, but my recent experience was enough for me to not come back. During my appointment, 3 different people were working on my nails because they were rushing, and the entire experience felt uncomfortable and unprofessional. I honestly did not even feel comfortable speaking up about what I didn't like while I was there because of the attitude I was receiving. I decided to come back the next day just to politely ask if my nails could be fixed. Instead of handling the situation professionally, the manager immediately became rude, gave me dirty looks. The nail tech fixing my nails was also rude the entire time. I asked a simple question and was met with attitude, which made the whole experience even more uncomfortable. I really loved this place the first few times I went but my last two experiences were unpleasant unfortunately. I called ahead to book an appt with somebody I requested and they put me with somebody else without informing me, who did a poor job. My nails are a week and a half of wear and they already look bad. Time before I asked for pink and white acrylic and they let me know I was asking for the wrong service rather than letting me know they could not do it. I'm sad making this review because I really used to love this place. This has always been my nail place of choice, as a TCU alum, I've been coming here for about 5 years. Last weekend I got gel for my nails. While my nails were getting done, I was distracted talking to my mom who was visiting and when I finally looked down at the color (after she had already done one coat on one hand) I asked if that was the color I asked for. She just nodded her head but when I looked at the number, I noticed it was not what I wanted. I decided it was fine and I liked the color enough to not make her redo it (although I was a bit upset because it was a much brighter red than I wanted). Now after a week of having the gel on my nails, it has already started peeling on two of my fingers from the bottom. As I inspected my nails, I noticed it's because they didn't do any work on my cuticles while I was there (again, I wish I would've been paying closer attention because I could've asked her to do it). Honestly, I've been to enough nail salons to know that I shouldn't have to worry if the color I asked for is being put on or something simple like cutting down my cuticles is being done. This place is far too expensive for me to not be completely satisfied with my nails. read more

Do not come to this location if you want design, they will fabricate a lie and say they are able to do the design and let you down afterwards. I personally prefer the truth on designs if you aren't about to achieve it I can easily pick something else but don't lie then try to charge for the design that doesn't look like the picture I wanted. read more

Not often do you get to take a close look at your toes but I injured my foot and took pictures of the bruising. When I shared foot pictures with people the first thing they commented on was how good my nails look. LOL I was looking at the pictures on my phone but it was even more evident when I had the pictures on my computer screen...DANG, my toes DO look good! In fact, my nails do as well. They always have. I have never had a bad nail tech there. I usually do a TON (too much) research making sure I get with "the right" nail tech but at Onyx, I have never had a bad experience. Meaning - No one has painted on my CUTICLES - that makes me so mad when other places do that and then your gel nail polish starts coming off and your nails look like crap, but not here! PRO-TIP: When you check out keep your receipt. There's a 15% off coupon for your next visit. It expires 30 days from the date of your service. And, 30 days means 30 days. I was ONE day past that date and they would not honor it. I don't love that, especially during COVID when things are so iffy about getting out of the house, I wish this part was more flexible but hey, at least they give you a discount towards your next service so can't complain too much, just be sure once your nails start looking bad - GET BACK IN if you want to use the 15% off! read more

I went with Paris 1, and when I come back in a couple of weeks I'm going to try the Paris 25. They are taking excellent safety precautions - panes between the guest and the nail tech, masks required, and hand sanitizer right at the door. I felt safe here, though we all take the risk when we walk out the door. Service was great, plus two (I believe, I only needed the one) complimentary drinks. This was a few weeks ago and I'm just now getting around to posting it because I went back yesterday and noticed the same nail tech doing the same awful job on the lady next to me. The dip was so thick and she used a normal nail file (aggressively which hurts and caused cuts) instead of the drill to make it thinner and smooth. So they were thick, bumpy, uneven, jagged, and I was cut on multiple spots since she was so rough. I'm glad I got her name on my receipt because I will never let her touch my nails again!! I come here Every single month and get my nails done I had a coupon that expired just the day before and they didn't honor it which I understand despite the fact that I'm a monthly customer so it's kind of frustrating. the coupon wasn't for much. The nail techs do a great job, but the manager is terrible. She does not care about your business and is very rude. I've been going to Onyx every two to three weeks for a couple of years. My services usually total around $80-120 every time I go and I tip anywhere from 15-25%. I expressed a minor issue to the manager today and she ended up insulting me in front of my friends. I won't be back and neither will any of my friends that come with me. (I brought three friends with me today) Again, nail techs are nice and do a good job, so it's not their fault, but the owner needs to fire the manager or get her properly trained. read more
