Stopped by here over Labor Day weekend and man... was it good. It's sushi, so prepare your wallet - it's very expensive. But what restaurant isn't nowadays? The whole ambience and vibe of the restaurant is really nice. Granted, we were the only people there at the time, but it's still a really cozy and relaxing atmosphere in my opinion. The waitress that helped us was more than kind as well. Very nice, great service. The only thing I wish they would've asked is if we wanted the bill split, they just brought it to both of us. I was with my sister so we had to split it later. We didn't want to inconvenience them so we just paid the full bill. The BBQ pork bun was absolutely amazing. For only $5.50, I would recommend getting it as an appetizer. It's a fairly decent size too so you could split it with at least one other person. Or, you could have the whole thing to yourself!!! I'll probably get one just for me next time. I liked the chicken satay skewers. Those are really good. But, I was expecting more than just two small chicken skewers for the cost. Really good flavor though. Then we got sushi rolls. They were all fantastic. I remember I got the Ooka Roll. It's the most expensive role on the menu, but it's fantastic. I think we also got the 150th roll. Also fantastic. Overall, I really recommend this place if you want some sushi. Just be prepared to pay a lot of money. If you need a cheaper option, there are other sushi places that are a bit cheaper close by. But these guys are very good and I will be back. I would rate 4.5 out of 5 stars, but Yelp only lets me do full stars - so I'm bumping it up to a 5. I'm excited to try their hibachi when we go back, and more sushi. read more

I wanted to try this place after seeing the great reviews. The restaurant appeared to be closed, as it was very dark and boasted an empty parking lot. Once inside, it was indeed dark, there was no TV/music on. The air was very still and it was hot inside. I attempted to order happy hour specials (to go) in person and the server said I could only do that through the website. I decided to dine in and ordered two rolls, hot and cold sake and plumb wine. Decided to try it cause of the positive reviews but I have to be honest, I don't know why this place is rated so highly at all. Service was fine, went on a sunday afternoon so it was slow there, was a bit surprised seeing our server making our sushi tho. Prices are a bit pricey for how little you actually get, kind of surprised even their hibachi or non fish entrees were a bit pricey too. I got some rolls but i have to say I wasn't amazed. The tuna in some of the rolls was grey in color rather than red or pinkish, it didn't smell or taste off so I am hoping it was just oxidized and not spoiled. Their regular rolls are mostly under $10, and their signature rolls are around $16. Customer service was good, but it did take a while for the food to be prepped. This is my favorite Sushi restaurant south of the river. They have the consistently tasting best salmon and tuna shashimi. It's fresh, generously sliced, and fairly priced. I don't eat raw fish but I do enjoy California rolls, and imitation crab. I got a California roll and it was mediocre, I also tried the spicy snow crab roll and that was my favorite. I'm happy I came here and tried something out of my comfort zone. Our waitress was very attentive. We tried the lemonades and they were all good, but not great. Our experience at Ooka has always been pleasant. They have a casual atmosphere and accommodate you any way they can. We usually get the Pork Gyoza as an app and they are gone in less than 3 minutes so if you have kids you might want to make it 2 orders and while your there try Sapporo, it's a Japanese Beer. My girls love the Yaki Udon with Veggies and Chicken. It's a perfect sharable size for kids who don't eat sushi. I love the Vikings Roll because I love sushi with tuna in it. If tuna is not your thing the 007 Roll is good too. I would also recommend trying One Hundred Roll. Don't forget to try the Oysters on half shell. They put a special sauce, masago and green onions. I have had amazing sushi before, so I can't give this five stars, but it was quite good. Well above average. I ordered the sushi lunch, which came with miso soup. Also very tasty. My son ordered the hibachi chicken lunch, which came with onion soup (I think that is what our waitress called it.) Surprisingly, we both agreed that the best soup was the onion soup. (Even though the miso soup was really good, and I love miso soup) It was just really savory, and nice. We also enjoyed the gyoza appetizer. For the sushi, maki is usually not my most favorite, but the spicy tuna roll was very tasty. I enjoyed the other assortment also. And the service was good--our waitress was nice, and helpful. My son and I ordered the Avocado Mango Salad, Spicy Kani Salad, and Hamachi Kama as appetizers and the Spicy Girl rolls, Dragon Rolls, and Spicy Snow Crab rolls for entrées. Possibly the worst meal I've ever had. Avocado in roll was was old and discolored black. On 3 of the rolls we got, including the all 'Avocado Roll' BMW roll was undercooked and soggy. Avocado was also gray. The $14 eel roll we got also had the smallest piece of eel in it, so small you had to tear apart the roll to find it. Gyoza was burnt on one side and frozen on the other. Along with fried spring rolls that were cold inside. Rice was unseasoned and almost chewy. Highly recommend avoiding this place. read more

Ok, so I gotta rant... I hate ranting. But sometimes it's necessary! I don't like being lied to! Or "misinformed." OOka a sushi bistro near my apartment building. Yummy I love sushi! It was delicious but well? Over priced in several ways. Fist of all, that was a half roll not a whole roll! Just because you cut in in 8 tiny pieces does not make it a full roll. Second of all, lady informed me at the door that their prices on menu have changed. Adding an extra 15%. That's fine. I get it, times are tough and prices are going up for food everywhere. We cool. I enjoyed my "half a $9.99 +15% dragon roll" and add a $4.99+15% vanilla ice cream tempura. And I get the bill... what, wait? Ummmm? I know how to do math. My bill should have said $11.50 for dragon roll (or at least the half I got) and $5.75 for ice cream tempura. But alas, my bill clearly states $12.95 for the half or whole dragon roll, and $5.99 for the dessert. Ok.. not a huge difference but it's not 15% extra! It's 30% extra on the dinner 20% on the dessert Either they are incapable of doing math, or they are liars. Either way I don't like liars and I worry about a business that can't do simple math! Especially when the math is in their favor and bites the customers! If you wanna charge an extra 20%-30% THATS COMPLETELY FINE! JUST DONT LIE TO ME, AND SAY ITS 15% WHEN ITS NOT! And since you were making a study of me... you knew it! Wipe tables down, go sweep the kitchen, turn the air conditioner on.. do something, besides watch your customers every single move while standing 3 feet away from them gosh! (Wish I took a photo of that scrawny dragon roll) which was a half roll cut into 8 small piece. I see pictures of other people rolls and they were huge! Mine was half the size! even the other customers in the restaurant with me, got bigger rolls twice the size! And in case you were wondering...NO I DID NOT YELL AT WAITRESS, I POLITELY TOLD HER THAT HER, THAT HER MATH WAS OFF. and as a result so was my tip! Told her 20% but only gave 10% don't lie to me! Next time and stop hovering over customers and watching them while they eat. It's disconcerting! And don't wait til they just pop a bite then ask them questions or take dishes while they are chewing.
