Kyoto/Kyota(? the name is different on the outside of the restaurant) is a staple in the Twin Cities; it's got a lot of variety & their sushi is fairly reasonably priced (I think around $31 for all you can eat). A couple of friends & I stopped in for dinner on a Friday night; the restaurant itself is a little depressing, with low lights, windows covered in clings, & kind of strange decor. The floor was super slippery & I almost fell, not sure what that was about. We ordered a fairly large amount of food to start with, & it came out as it was ready, which was nice. Each time we ordered, though, we were missing at least one thing we'd ordered; not a huge deal, but it's annoying to not know whether it's still coming (& you may get double), or if they just missed it. The sushi itself was pretty good, not the best I've ever had, but good for the price. In all, I'm sure I'll be back to at least one Kyoto location, but I wouldn't go here expecting the best sushi you've ever had.

Finally stopped in for the all you can eat sushi. $30 was a good price for all you can eat sushi rolls, appetizers, dessert. Drink is xtra. Waitress was very attentive. The rolls were tightly prepared and they were very good. I love the shrimp Tempura and many of the appetizers. I especially like the fried mushrooms & spring rolls. I was too full for dessert. I will be back to try different rolls.

There's a smaller variety of all you can eat sushi for the lunch menu. They don't have any deep fried options for the lunch menu which is a little disappointing. The server was attentive. The area is a quiet intimate setting.

All you can eat sushi? Say less. They have both menu options or the AYCE. If you want to try a lot of things I highly recommend the AYCE. We had a large party but it was split between two servers. There weren't any mistakes made and we had enough room. The only downside had been the bathrooms which had a distinct and off putting smell.

Hits the spot when I'm really hungry but not the best AYCE sushi spot overall. Friendly and fast service but pricey at $31/pp for AYCE. I can't really say if any one dish stands out but we try to get something from each menu section. Large dining space for large groups and plenty of parking.

It's one of my favorite sushi places to go to. Especially when I moved from the west coast. I love coming here on my day off with a friend or two. And splitting sushi with them. They always give you plenty of wasabi and ginger. And if you ask politely they give you an extra bowl so that you can have more soy sauce. I always get the water no ice with my meal. So I can't comment on their drinks. But their sushi is amazing. I absolutely love it. It melts in your mouth. Or crunches. Just like it's supposed to. I've had some of their tempura. And it's super yummy as well! The staffing is on top of things. They don't over crowd you and bug you. Yet they keep an eye out when your plates get empty and need a refill. I keep coming back. And glad they reopened!

Are there plenty of options for non sushi/vegetarian food?

Yes. Plenty of other options. Salad and veggie dishes ate available but check out the menu photos to see what they have.

The space is bright and sunny and I don't think there's a bad spot in the house. Service has always been attentive and most importantly, I've literally never had anything that wasn't delicious. This time, we ordered the coconut shrimp to start. They were so crisp and juicy and large. This is something that we get many places because it's my husband's favorite and we both agreed this was our favorite coconut shrimp so far in the Twin Cities. I got the Asian slaw salad with Aji tuna. I've had this before, it is so good especially the shoyu dressing. It sounds boring to come here and get a salad, but it's just delicious especially with the crunchy macadamia nuts. My husband got the loco Moco with short rib and loved it. We got fries on the side. The kabayaki aioli was so unexpected and good! The fries were hot, salty and crisp. Solid fries on their own. We also asked to try the ghost pepper aioli, which was fab and not too hot.

Beverages are included which was nice. I love getting hot tea. The restaurant was clean & well taken care of. The buffet includes unlimited soft drinks, drip coffee, and hot tea. Their Dr. Pepper is extra syrupy compared to normal fountain drinks, would recommend! Throughout the meal, the server will clear your empty plates and at the end of the meal they will drop off fortune cookies and towelettes. Crab days are Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays. During these days they serve lil crabs. There is also a build your own noodle station where you can choose your mix-ins and sauces, and they'll fry it up for you. The fried rice is solid and the garlic toast is shockingly really good. Food is pretty fresh and warm, and there are people constantly refilling trays and cleaning the buffet.
