Parking: a lot but it's pretty small. I believe there's extra spaces down below. It's dark back there! Atmosphere: Cozy and comfortable. Service: Just OK. On the e you order food no one checks in you. The servers will refill your water. The main focus is the cook who prepares your food. This place is great for groups. The cooking tables are pretty small. They have 4. Food: For starters they give you soup & salad. The dressing has ginger in it and it's quite tasty and I'm not a fan of ginger. I had the baked New Zealand mussels. It's a cheesy mayo over the mussels. Delicious! Very tasty! I had the chicken and scallops they were very delicious the flavor is really good but I would love to add some garlic to the mix I have to ask the next time for some. My friend got the chicken and salmon and he said the salmon was delicious! The portions are a good size. I always take away. The next day it taste great!! The best part outside of the food is the zucchini toss. It's hilarious. The tables are close so if you are a party of 2 to 3 you will be sitting at a table with strangers. This was my first time going to Hibachi!!!! I loved everything about this restaurant! The environment, the place was very cleaned when I walked in. The food was nice and hot! Everything was delish! I'm always on the lookout for amazing cuisine from anywhere in Asia. Stopped here to try to the sushi and some of the appetizers. We ordered: Shrimp Tempura roll Shrimp & Baked Sea Scallop Roll Chicken Yakitori Edamame Pork Dumplings Ooka Chicken Wings Shrimp Tempura Harumaki Ambiance was great. They were full inside so we sat outside. The tent and the string lights made it a bit more interesting while we endured the cooling fall winds. Menus are electronic during COVID (you snap the QC code with your camera and view the menu on your phone). Chicken Yakitori was okay. The breast meat was largely unseasoned at the core, the vegetables in the Yakitori were cooked a bit beyond what I would consider palatable. Pork Dumplings were a favorite, they were devoured in seconds of hitting the table. Chicken wings were cooked really well but I just was not a fan of the sauce. Neither was my 10 year old who quickly put it down. Shrimp Tempura was okay. Harumaki was good but I was a bit thrown off by how soggy the veggies inside were. I ended yo pulling them out and enjoying the roll without the mush factor or the veggies. All in all there are still a few things I'd like to try on the menu (Negimaki, Calimari, and Hibatchi) so I'll give them another try. read more

Always love coming to this little joint when I visit family in PA. I initially thought it would be difficult to find good sushi in the area, but OoKa proves me wrong. Everything is fresh, well-made, and consistent. The roasted shishito peppers was a great appetizer to start and the agadashi tofu was so freshly fried, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. For our entree, we ordered a variety of sushi, but perhaps what stood out was the aburi style king salmon and the otoro. The rice could be a little softer, but over all it was all fresh. You can also pay the extra $7 or so dollars for fresh wasabi to accompany your sushi - something I think really enhances the experience and wish it came with the sushi in the first place. read more

Only negative thing I have to say about this place was an employee by the name of vanessa. She was very rude and really made us feel unwelcome. The food is very good. The service was awesome. I love sitting at the hibachi. I would recommend though if you have kids with you make sure that you tell them it's a kids meal we had four kids with us and we didn't tell them and they gave them for adult size and our bill was over $300. read more

The food here is absolutely incredible. Unfortunately, Ooka has a few things that is holding it back from being 5 stars. The parking lot is an absolute nightmare. Too few spots, extremely narrow, and very difficult to park in a spot if you find one. I've dined here as a couple a few times. Each time we were crammed in a corner and we were basically elbow to elbow with strangers eating at other tables. Zero chance of having a personal conversation. Our dining experience was so tight one time, that I was unable to even get to our table because people were blocking the way. I tried to squeeze in between 2 chairs and I tripped over a leg. The music is incredibly loud. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very intimate but it ruined by music blaring in your ears. Again, no chance of having a private conversation. I can't impress how good the food is, however. One evening we ordered duck and sushi. Absolutely incredible. Another evening we ordered the salmon teriyaki and sushi. Again, probably the best meals we've had in a long time. Unfortunately, I'm not sure my wife and I will be back. The negatives are anxiety inducing when you just want to enjoy a nice meal. read more

I've come here many times for hibachi and for the regular sit down. Honestly is the best place for hibachi in the area. They have great chefs are full of energy and always seem like they love what they do. The food? Just as good. It's fresh, cooked perfectly and full of flavor. One thing that I enjoy about the hibachi here is the inclusion of the hibachi noodles. A lot of places usually charge extra if you want the noodles, but not here! The regular sit down food is also very good with great portions. Only thing is that it can get a bit loud in here, but that's to be expected with the hibachi chefs entertaining. If you're in the mood for Japanese cuisine, then I'd say give this place a shot. read more

This place is an oasis in an unexpected part of town. Instantly one walks on to an atmosphere that is perfect for slowing down and being present. The tuna tartare was worth every penny. The flavors--the poached egg and tuna in sauce over an avocado was so delicious! I would eat two of those myself if I could. Next, the entrees are worth it, with miso soup, a salad, and five pieces of salmon and a roll! My only feedback is that the dressing for the salad was not my favorite. My husband loved it, but I couldn't finish my salad. I wasn't given a choice on dressing and I think it was some kind of thousand island. Not my favorite. But even with not eating my salad, the entree meal filled me up. This place is a great spot for work or a date and worth the drive. read more

I was in town for a few days and went here for dinner. Sat at the sushi bar. The service was excellent. The server made really good recommendations and was very attentive and personal. Had great conversation. The sushi was exceptional. It was very fresh and my taste buds were out of this world. Probably one of the best sushi restaurants in Philly. The restaurant is BYOB. Which is good or bad depending how you look at it. A block away was a liquor store where I went and bought a nice bottle of wine and enjoyed with my meal. Definitely recommend. Find Ooka near Best Buy, across the street from Soundex. They're open seven days a week for both lunch and dinner, and serve Japanese cuisine. Around 2006, the restaurant underwent a makeover - maturing from an ugly duckling (a typical Japanese restaurant) and now is modern chic - every detail, from the columns, to the windows, to the menus, was affected, but luckily the prices suffered nary a bit. For years, I've come here for lunch, and at least twice for dinner. Their sushi rolls are prepared with panache and come out fresh and tasty - they've got personality, son! Unsurprisingly, their hibachi (table-side cooking) rocks here as well, thanks in no small part to their the flavorful, colorful sauces, and cuts of meat. (They also have a fried ice cream dessert which is a delight.) Service is top-notch - servers are efficient, friendly, and the hibachi chefs I've had have been talented and entertaining. I hate to even leave this review because OOKA truly was one of my favorite sushi restaurants in PA. I'm from New York, so my boyfriend likes to take me to our favorite places when I come to visit. The Salmon Sashimi is always fresh and you can tell they care about the quality of their fish, but tonight truly made me question the quality of their kitchen. When our server brought out our shrimp shumai, a roach crawled off from the brown basket and proceeded onto our table where my boyfriend killed it. We honestly sat there in disbelief for a few minutes because we were like there's no way this had just happened. I asked him to double check that it's a roach and not an ant In which he confirmed it's a roach. At that point there's no way we felt comfortable eating the dish as I'm pretty sure the roach enjoyed it before we did. When our server proceeded to walk over with the rest of our food I explained the situation and proceeded to point at the roach that was still twitching on the table, in which her response was "oh, okay". Takes the plate of shumai but proceeds to place down the plate of sashimi, smearing the remains of the roach on the table, not even attempting to clear it or anything, just smears it under the giant brown plate. Which I then proceeded to lift and wipe the remains of the roach because as a restaurant manager I was in disbelief at how this situation was handled and how there wasn't even an apology or how the table wasn't even wiped before more food was placed down. Our server only asked how the rest of the food was at one point and gave us the check. My boyfriend actually wanted their dessert because they have delicious dessert, but if theres one roach coming out of the kitchen on their plates, who else knows what's in there. OOKA you were a favorite but roaches should not be coming out on customer plates and should definitely not be ignored by the server. read more

One of the best sushi restaurants that I've been to. The staff here are super nice and attentive. I forgot my waiters name but he was amazing. Kept checking up on my bf & I and made sure everything was good. Now moving onto the food.. we ordered the spicy tuna pizza ($14) as our appetizer. It. was. amazing. Every bite had the perfect amount of tuna, peppers, jalapeños, tempura flakes and tortilla. It had so much flavor! For sushi we ordered, James Bond Roll ($18), Lobster Dynamite Roll ($18), Ooka Shrimp Dragon roll($14) and the Spider Roll ($9). The food came out super quick and we enjoyed each roll. The food is on the pricer side but the quality and flavor is definitely worth it. Can't wait to come back! read more

Some observations: Our server, Yuki was so genuine and down to earth. Really loved her.  The miso soup was the real deal.  Not the powdered stuff you dissolve in water.  The sushi was fantastic.  I had The Purple Roll.  Husband had The Crunch Roll.  (He also ordered the Duck Roll appetizers).  He loved both.   My son had the Limeade.  It was made fresh! It was one of the best juice drinks I've ever had.  It tasted like summer in a glass.  Both my husband and I had an alcoholic drink.  I had the Kyuri and he had the Ooka Mule.  Both were delicious.  Bursting with flavor and freshness. Our hibachi cook was fun. He was also quick and efficient.  Meal was good, especially my scallops. So tender and fresh.  For dessert the kid had the hot fudge chocolate cake.  My husband said that even this tasted fresh.  Hubs had a fried banana.
