So excited that this restaurant opened up! The ramen and Pho are incredible, I can't say enough good things about the food. The menu is small but the quality is top notch. I am going to try the pad Thai next but have heard great things about that as well. The gyoza is the best I've had in all of Dubuque and they make Bao buns that are soooo good! Then of course there's the milk tea, I don't think you can find it anywhere else in Dubuque which was a huge bummer for me as it's one of my favorite drinks. It's delicious here at Oolong! Make sure you get the popping boba, passion fruit is my favorite. I ordered the Thai Basil Cheesecake because it sounded interesting, and wow! There is just so much flavor in it. If it sounds weird to you don't be scared, the basil is a very light flavor and goes so well with the strawberry sauce. Seriously, try this! Thai curry with tofu was delicious, but I think the price is a little steep for the portion size

We had a pretty confusing dinning event here. First confusion was the menu, the beverages didn't have pour sizes and the owner didn't explain them well. Second, we ordered Oyster Mushroom & Chicken dumplings, pan fried. When they came out they were basically undercooked, and looked like they were steamed and not pan fried. I bite into the first one and the flavor was way off. I tried the second and was really surprised by the sweetness of the vegetable in it. All I could taste was corn in both the dumplings. I cut open the third dumpling and realized it was basically a chicken and corn dumpling, the corn was so overpowering that was the only flavor. It took our server/the owner a good 5-10 minutes to come over to check on us. They took the remaining two dumplings, didn't provide a satisfactory explanation or solution, and they were still on the bill. We also had the spring rolls, there were 3 small fried rolls. They tasted okay, but was disappointed by the price to value. There were two of us, so 3 tiny rolls was confusing. They delivered our food, one of the dishes was wrong. We got the Pho & Pad Thai. The Pad Thai was replaced with a Thai Basil. We were given that dish for free. The saving grace was that the main dishes were delicious. Coming from California I needed my asian food fix. This place scratched my itch for some Pho soup. It was definitely the best in town. I love the simple and rustic decor. The high table in the middle of the dining floor really looks good. The place is clean, utilized natural lighting and has a very cozy feel to it. Prices were fair as well. We recently moved from Des Moines and I was desperately missing authentic Asian food, especially pho, my favorite. Someone mentioned Oolong and I'm thrilled I finally tried it! I got the pho and pork & leeks dumplings, and everything was so delicious. The dipping sauce for the dumplings is the tastiest I've ever had. The pho was so good, broth so flavorful, all toppings delicious. I've never had pho to-go so I appreciated the instructions on the container. I did, however, wish I had asked for some hoisin sauce to go. It's always available on the table so I didn't even think that I wouldn't have any at home. I can't wait to come back!! read more

**UPDATED JULY 2018: Oolong now serves alcohol. ** Went to Oolong for a double date on a Saturday evening, around 6POne could definitely tell that Oolong is a new restaurant and still working out some kinks; however the quality of the food quickly made up for this. We began with sampling the Fried Vegetable Spring Rolls off of the appetizer menu, which did not disappoint. The Thai sweet chili sauce complemented the Spring Rolls very well. Our party ordered each of the entrees, however I feel as though I hit the lottery with the Thai Basil Stir-Fry. The portion was huge, and had we not been spending a night on the town after dinner, the leftovers would have made for a great hangover meal. The stir-fry was spicy, but not overly spicy. (note: I am pretty sensitive to spicy/hot foods). My partner enjoyed his Pho however wasn't sold on it. He is looking forward to trying the Ramen at our next visit. The Vietnamese Coffee was a refreshing, sweet coffee and although priced at $4 I think any coffee chain drinker would gladly pay the price. The few disappointments of the evening were: *Service/Wait Time: Entrees were brought to the table after a very long wait time (45 min. after ordering). Based on the looks of the size of the kitchen, I'd assume that this would be a typical wait when the restaurant is full. My partner received his entree last, about 25 min. after the first member in our party received hers. *Small Menu/No Alcohol: The small menu offers pros and cons. Definitely understand why the menu is small at this time as the restaurant is so new; however does not cater to all (special food diets/sensitivities). FINALLY! A LEGIT ramen and pho place in town! My husband and I have been here a couple times already, and we have not been disappointed. Sure, as a new restaurant, there are going to be a few kinks, but we very much appreciate that the owner and staff are open to hearing the feedback from their customers. Since the hubbie and I moved here from the San Francisco Bay Area, we have been missing some good quality, LEGIT, Asian food, and Oolong has been able to deliver that along with a side of a little slice of home. Our favorite dishes are the chicken wings, vietnamese sandwiches, pho, and ramen. The pho broth is made from scratch, and the chef has really done a good job with the seasoning. When the restaurant first opened, I did find the broth somewhat bland, which I mentioned to the chef. But he's definitely stepped it up with the flavors, and it tastes a lot better now. For the ramen, the braised pork is AMAZING! And the soft-boiled egg is a great addition. Actually, having a soft-boiled egg in your ramen is pretty much mandatory. The chicken wings are really good, and the chef makes his own dipping sauce, which has a great umami flavor, but it does not overpower the seasoning of the chicken wings. For the vietnamese sandwiches, there's a nice combination of different types of pork to enjoy. The one downside I have to mention is the price. Many of the menu prices are a little steep compared to the Bay Area prices, but considering where the ingredients are coming from and how fresh they are, it makes sense to pay this amount and support a local and unique restaurant. I consider myself a foodie. With that being said, I try unique food opportunities around Dubuque and recommend it to people. Oolong grasp my attention early on as it offers Thai and Vietnamese food. This got me excited as I am a Vietnamese myself (Actually from Vietnam). Here is my experience at Oolong. Now, there are a couple things that the restaurant have done right. - I think it is a fantastic idea to keep the menu small for now and experiment and gather customers' feedback. I think this was a wonderful business idea. - The location is very nice, the restaurant is small yet charming with beautiful light. - The environment feels welcoming and the staffs are very friendly, especially Brook Armstrong though to be fair, she is our friend from school so she was extra friendly. - The restaurant is actively looking for feedbacks. I enjoy the fact that there was no music going on, allow us to talk while waiting for the food. Very clean environment and you can peak into the kitchen while waiting, allowing you to see what's going on Inside the kitchen with your food. Now there are a few things that I think Oolong has yet to reach its full potential. - The Pho and Ramen did not meet the expectation. These two iconic dishes are often packed with noodles, veggies and some meat with good broth that fill you up and make you feel good about yourself at the end. It is also supposed to be one of the most affordable cuisines since most Vietnamese restaurant in the States offers Pho at a very low price point ($6-$11). However, this doesn't seem to be Oolong's intention as the price is currently $15 for the Ramen and $14 for the Pho. It would be understandable if Oolong want to deliver a more high-end experience but it fell short of the expectation. -The broth on both dishes did not give me the punch I was looking for. It was there but it was not the star of the show as it should be. It reminds me of a rather bland experience I got eating Pho from a fast food like noodle place in Phoenix Arizona. The Ramen is a little more complicated. It was better than the Pho but only because of the miso which isn't produced by the restaurant, I assume. Most of the taste came from the miso and the porky deep flavored broth experience was missing. The meat is also drier than expected and I felt like pork belly should have been used for this dish. The noodle however was good as well as the rest of the vegetables. - The prices of things are a little too high for the quality that we are getting right now. The Vietnamese coffee was really good but does not justify the $4 price tag. Consider the current quality, the entrees should not be as high as they are right now. - I think the wall could use a few modern decorations as well and the mirrors seem to be an odd choice of decoration that doesn't compliment the beautiful lights hanging lights. - The soup spoon is bizarre. There is a much better style of soup spoon out there that is used by many Asian cuisine places. The ones that Oolong have are just awkwardly big that it almost feels offensive. The choice of the chopstick is also questionable as well. The restaurant would have been better off using the disposable bamboo chopsticks or some different style that is easier to use. This place has the right idea about being a business. Oolong is doing a lot of right things and things that can be greatly improved. However, this place is unique and deserve the constructive support from the community. It makes Dubuque a more interesting place to live and we certainly do need much more adventurous experience like what Oolong is offering when it comes to food. read more

I took my daughter (Echo) for a ladies' day out. I have read and heard good things about this restaurant. I'm from Chicago, I have had AMAZING Pho, so my standards are VERY HIGH, my daughter knows this of course. She ordered the Pad Thai and I ordered the Pho with 2 sides of "fried spring rolls" and a hot sake (I love it hot, tastier). Good and eh...the Pho is very tasty, the Pad Thai was equally good, big smile. The "fried spring rolls" were very tasty but, I would prefer the fresh spring rolls.
