This is a great place for Vietnamese cuisine. They have a great selection of banh mi, pho, and other Vietnamese culinary delights. This is a large restaurant. They have a lot of seating. They have separate tables along the walls, and long tables down the center of the establishment. Thus, you should always be able to find a place to sit. The staff here are super nice. Very friendly! They're happy to help you with any decisions you need to make, or just to take your order in a rapid manner. This restaurant is located in a shopping area that has a very large parking lot. You should never have a problem finding a place to park. Overall, if you want some great Vietnamese influenced food, this is a great place to find it. read more

On my quest for the best Bahn Mi in Madison, I paid VK a visit during a weekday. It was later in the afternoon so the larger dining room was empty. Order at the counter with their menu on display on large LCD's hanging above it. I went with the combination B1 (Pork Roll, Head Cheese, Sliced Pork Belly). For those not as adventurous, they have some more mainstream renditions such as shredded chicken, grilled pork, etc. Upon opening the paper wrapper, was immediately impressed with how jam packed the sandwich was. Alot of protein with fresh vegetables, it was well balanced. Although advertised with pork belly, I picked more of the head cheese than anything else. I did get a hint of BBQ so I am guessing the flavor came from the pork belly (but not sure). The bread had a good crust to it but lacked the softness on the interior that I wanted. Mayo was rather pedestrian and lacked the depth of flavor of homemade mayo from other places. This is not the place for Boba tea. My kids love Boba, and so do I, so we get it every weekend and have gone to every place there is in the Madison area. Viet Kitchen packs SO much ice in their skinny cup that when you remove the ice, there is less than 1/3 of a drink left and that's Boba and sugar. It took me 3 sips to drink the entire drink! This place is officially off the Boba list. FYI, the best Boba in madison is Le C's Patisserie & Tea House on State and the Chain Bambu is also very good if you cut back on the sugar and ice, but they do give you that option. read more

We went to Madison many times in the past and we did not have any time to explore the area. Today we decided to checkout this restaurant. We were at the slowest time at the restaurant. First impression was the sense of Pho when we walked in and the cleanness of the restaurant. According to my wife, the Pho was okay. The broth sweetness needed more sweet from beef bones. The Bún bò Huế was good, but the noodles need to cook a bit softer. I was shock with the Pork chops rice dish. Because they served with soy beans instead of garlic fish sauce. Without fish sauce, the dish would not be good. However, I asked the owner and they brought out the garlic fish sauce for the dish. Friendly staff and large seating area. Large photos on menu and posters on the walls of the menu items. Tables have napkins, hoisin sauce, fish sauce, sriracha, and chili sauce. They bring out the spoons and chopsticks with your meal. I ordered the #23 Meatballs and steak Pho and an almond milk boba tea. Broth is very savory and the soup is filled up with all kinds of good noodles and meat. The almond milk isn't super sweet which makes it perfect for me and with lots of boba. I was getting groceries at A-Mart Asian Grocery and noticed this little viet restaurant nearby so I had to try it. Turns out the people working were also from Cali so I had high hopes that they'd reach my standard for viet food... and they did, the food was delicious. If you're looking for an Authentic Vietnamese place, this is it! This is my second time coming here and absolutely loved it. The portions of food it's perfect, the cashier was very pleasant and the wait staff were absolutely amazing and sweet. They brought our food and water and made sure we had what we needed. I really enjoyed the Spicy Noodle soup, the amount of meat inside was unbelievable as I had never had that before, the spice to it is very tolerable and you can even add more spice as needed or to your liking. I wanted to try to rare steak and oxtail pho but they were out of it. I really like the bahn mi. I felt like it was flavor and the bread was good. Absolutely LOVE Viet Kitchen and in my opinion is the top 2 Viet spots in town. My first visit to Madison in early 2022, I was greeted by a very rude younger lady who seemed unhappy to be there, and so they were off to a rough start. But with the years they redeemed themselves for the consistent yummy food. I can always rely on their Banh Mi (even from eating ones in Hanoi, theirs hits!). Of course the classic pho (albeit very pricey!) that only comes in an L size and an L price to pair with. Tried their chicken pho recently and it really does taste amazing! Broth is authentic and fills your soul for sure. With summer rolling around, you best believe I'm grabbing a refreshing icy boba-- which they do very well imo (they don't just throw sugar and water and ice in a cup), though been extremely sweet lately, no matter what I order and even after requesting less sweet. Becomes hard and icky to finish after the 60% mark. Regardless, coming back again and again! I hate that they are closed on Mondays :( Overall loses a star for steep pricing, cleanliness in the dining room could be better (sticky floors and tables, consistently very slow in cleaning up empty tables). read more

Delicious vietnamese food with authentic flavors!!!! I just moved to Madison from Little Saigon in California and am constantly feeling homesick. I was afraid to try the vietnamese restaurants and boba places nearby because I didn't want to be disappointed, but I'm so glad I swung by here randomly after work! I ordered pork sausage banh mi (nem nuong) and a butterfly pea latte with boba and coffee. The boba is some of the best I've had in town-- nicely sweet and creamy, chewy pearls and flavorful coffee. The bánh mì is delicious!!!! Packed with authentic nem nướng, crunchy fresh pickled vegetables, cilantro, jalapeño, and on a nice soft vietnamese style baguette. Wife and I have been to some pretty great bahn mi places, but this one really blew us away! The interior was cute and well decorated, with colors that brought some fun life to the place. Staff was quiet but friendly, and the place was kept very clean. We both ordered the Bahn Mi #2, Grilled pork. What can we say, we know what we like. $7.75 per sandwich, and they were good sized too! Cooling cucumber paired with jalapenos that give it a slight kick, with succulent grilled pork. We split a peach green tea with boba to wash it down, which was also very tasty. Vermicelli noodles with shredded pork was so delicious. It included more than I expected: egg roll, some lettuce, shredded carrots with grated daikon radish, and a dipping sauce- probably for the egg roll, but I poured it over the whole bowl, including the slightly sweet, chewy, perfectly done pork. And I enjoyed a durrian smoothie- more of an icy shake- in a nice covered plastic container, to take home. ( Special commendations to the cashier/ server/ do-it-all person who was so cheerful throughout the busy-ness of the evening rush. Ambiance is simple but somehow pleasing: a hall welcoming everyone. Server explained and apologized that there would be a wait: There was, but entirely bearable; even pleasant, as I read my new/ used novel from nearby Half-Priced Books. Menu prices were higher than I expensive, but what isn't, nowadays? I will keep the smoothie container close at hand for the next visit, as I'm adding this restaurant to my very short list of worthwhile eating establishments in the Madison area. read more

I stopped by Viet Kitchen this weekend for a quick bite with my mom and placed our order around 12:20PM. The place was pretty quiet, a few tables with diners but there wasn't anyone ahead of us. Eager to try what the banh mi dac biet would taste like, we waited about 14 minutes for 2 sandwiches to be made. We watched a lady with a larger order (including sandwiches) who ordered AFTER us receive their items before us. Finally, around 12:34PM we were handed the sandwiches. In terms of the subs, the bread was crisp but everything else was mediocre at best. The "pate" spread was a weird mixture and the sandwich consists of 2.5 thin layers of meat. For $8.50, this 7" sandwich was pretty poorly constructed and matched the restaurant services received. read more

I just moved here from the Bay Area so I'm writing this review from a stand point of some of the best banh mi in the US. Needless to say I won't be coming back the this place. Don't get me wrong it was decent that's why I'm giving it 2 stars instead of less but the bread was tougher than it needed to be and they didn't deliver on the ingredients. There were only a few pieces of chicken and also little of the carrots cucumber etc and the jalapeños still had all their seeds. It's better when they get rid of some of the seeds. I've had the bahn mi here twice, grilled pork both times. The sandwich is big and reasonably priced at $7. They are generous with the filling, including plenty of sweet and savory pork (though In a perfect world it would be a tad more moist and fatty). They also aren't skimpy with the jalapeños, which is a welcome departure from most Midwestern restaurants. The bread is just a little more tough/chewy than I would like. I would say this place is alright 3 stars out of 5, so far. I haven't tried many items on the menu yet. My partner and I moved to Madison from California. We're testing out all the Asian foods here to see which ones taste homey like California! We ordered: #17 Pho Dac Biet, #26 Vermicelli Noodle Bowel, Spring Rolls (came with 2) & a combination Banh Mi. We came on a Sunday morning. It seems that the restaurant just opened. We ordered up front. One of the servers gave us a menu, we also paid upfront and then was directed to chose a table to sit at. We were a bit bummed out that no one came to bring us water, but we figure it maybe because we needed to ask at front (which my partner went to ask for after our food arrived). Spring rolls: it came with a large chunk of rectangular meat rolled with noodles and veggies. It looked like any typical spring roll. There were something crunchy inside, but I couldn't figure out what it was. Typically they deep fried an egg roll wrap and roll it with the spring roll. The sauce was a bit salty to my liking. I thought there will be chive in the spring roll like the photo, but I was reminded that pictures are deceiving. #26 Vermicelli Noodle Bowel: There were plenty of veggies and meat! The sauce didn't have much flavor. I'd forgotten the dish came with an eggroll until one of the servers brought the it to me. Typically for this dish they would chop the egg roll and decorate the dish with it. One side note, I was a bit bummed out that the menu said the dish was $13, but I was charged $15. I figured they probably didn't update the menu. As a new customer, this kind of left me feeling cheated and again, deceived. #17 Pho Dac Biet: my partner shared that the broth was plain. He added the hoisin sauce and sriracha to make it better. We haven't tried the Banh Mi l, yet! We took it to go since we had a lot to eat already. I'm excited to see how it is and the paté on the sand which is like. I think this place bake their French bread fresh as I saw a full cart of baked French bread in the preparing area. I got the brown sugar boba and spring rolls after working up a sweat walking from a shipping trip at TJ Maxx. I can't imagine a better day than strolling with boba in hand and scoring deals. The tea was the perfect temp and the drink was not too sweet. The tapioca pearls had the correct texture, not undercooked, where it's hard in the middle, and not a soft mush either. The spring rolls contained rice noodles, mixed greens, pickled diakon, and shrimp. Their version did not contain shrimp, and came with a side of peanut sauce. I was thoroughly surprised that the rice paper wrapper did not harden even after sitting in the car for a couple of hours in sub below temps. It had great flavor and the size is bigger than Saigon Noodles edition. Both items came to ~$14 before tip, so they are a little pricier than other places nearby. read more

Mediocre is the only word I can use to describe the place. The restaurant was decently sized with the kitchen in full view, which is a strength for this place. But looking to the side you would see racks of chairs stacked up and supplies, like package of 24 Cokes, stacked as well on the floor. While I understand that sometimes restaurants don't have enough space for storing supplies and need to store them at the front of the restaurant, they can easily organize these easily but unwilling to. The food themselves were safe in terms of taste. They don't taste like any of the authentic pho I've tried in the past nor does the pho tasted bad or off putting to non-Vietnamese guests. The bang mi I had was toasted so it was crunchy and warm but that all it had going for it. The meat were a little too salty while the rest of the ingredients tasted a little cold, which is not a bad thing because storing veggies in fridges is great for fresh ingredients. But the combination of crunchy bread, salty meat and sauce, and cool vegetables does not mix well. The service also took a really long time. I came in for a boba tea and ended up waiting close to 15 minutes for the tea to get ready. I wouldn't come here if you want good Vietnamese food. If you want banh mi the grocery store across the street have a better selection. read more

I have been wanting to try this spot out and we finally stopped for lunch! The excitement I had was met with incredible food, no let downs. My boyfriend ordered the bahn mi and said it was the best he's ever had. All the ingredients were fresh!! Only $7 for the sandwich too. We got two orders of the spring rolls because that was my meal. They were so delicious, definitely best spring rolls I've had. Very fresh veggies inside with the hint of mint. The peanut sauce was sooo creamy and delicious. It was the perfect snack for lunch and very healthy! Both boba drinks were great- I got the honeydew and he got the brown sugar. They had a ton of flavors of tea. Can't wait to return to buy more! I thought the prices were very fair and everything felt so fresh with delicious flavors. The only possible complaint I could have is there are no vegetarian options and I also didn't see any seafood options aside from the shrimp in the spring rolls. I noticed they did have daily specials that were entirely different from the menu (Korean short ribs, chicken pad Thai) so maybe they do have those options periodically. I'm not sure if maybe those aren't "traditional" or authentic options when it comes to Vietnamese and that's why? But it would be great if they had a vegetarian pho option! Staff is friendly and patient while we tried to figure it out for the first time. The food is delicious! We had the chicken pho, meatball pho, and riblets as they were out of the pork chop. The wait wasn't long especially considering how many customers they had at 2pm on a Tuesday(Valentines day)! Plenty of tables and space but has a cafeteria vibe. Very clean. There is plenty of parking as it in the TJ Maxx/Sierra/Five Below as well as Vintage Brewery parking lot. I ordered one of the Bahn Mi sandwiches and it was served on fresh French bread - which is key to a good Bahn Mi sandwich. The ham, pickles and head cheese on the sandwich were scrumptious. This restaurant just opened in the strip mall where there is A-Mart Asian Grocery Store, Sierra Trading Post, and Below Five. I stopped in for lunch, where I had a black milk bubble tea and a Combo #8 banh mi sandwich. As a part of their opening special, bubble teas are half off right now with the purchase of a sandwich and there is a banner outside listing this. The inside was clean and modern, and the menu was well labeled and on monitors above where you order for your meal. The menu is primarily pho, banh mi, and bubble tea, with some appetizers as well. My food was ready in less than 10 minutes and I took my order to go. The black tea bubble tea was tasty, not too sweet - the tapioca pearls weren't as chewy as I like. Just FYI, they don't serve any of their teas hot, which was a bummer to me as it is now December. The banh mi itself was decent - the ratio of soft inside to crunchy crusty baguette wasn't as crunchy on the outside as I like, nor was the inside remarkably fluffy, but the qualities of the meat used in the combo were solid. I would have liked more pickled flavor from carrots or daikon, but it was a filling, tasty lunch regardless.
