The service is great, my fiancé bought a bunch of magic cards here and they're really informative and helpful. The selection is pretty good, especially the manga, they could use some more boy love but that's okay. Tom Beland used to work here and I miss seeing him. The only positive I can say about this shop is they have about three wonderful employees, decent selection, and have snacks. For example: I asked someone for help locating a small amount of cards and all he answered was idk. No effort to check anywhere besides the front glass case, etc. Also the majority of the time this shop has things for sale at scalper prices. Plus they try and push their own product called Vaulted Rarity which is just repacked cards with crappy value,etc . Also, if you try and turn in cards for store credit or if you dare cash value, you're going to majorly ripped off and get a small percentage of what it's worth. I've also ran into a lot of toxic customers here during gaming tournaments not really abnormal for the card gaming community but expect to have them do nothing if issues occur. Parking is not wonderful either with either small parking spaces, illegal parking behind othe cars during release weekends and people racing through the parking lot. If you want to not experience being ripped off, bad customer service, and be in a welcoming environment.... I would recommend going to Harveys in Rohnert Park. read more

Today I went there to purchase a few 151 Chinese booster boxes. I asked where they get their booster boxes because I have ran into issues with fakes. My question was met with rudeness . I'm sorry I'm trying to be thorough. I wanted to inspect the box. We weren't allowed to touch them. So I should spend close to $400 dollars with a "trust me bro". Great atmosphere; solid for playing cards basically any night of the week, plus amazing turnouts for tournaments. But for the people behind the counter, I genuinely like a lot of the people here, but about half of them just seem... idk like *we are here to do business and not smile or be friendly.* Now for the worst parts: they are the most overpriced on cards anywhere I've ever been (singles or unopened product), despite their truly incredible selection. And they won't budge on prices. Also horrific trade-in prices. Anyone, and I mean ANYONE, who's worth their salt in card knowledge knows this about their card prices. Ignore the reviewers completely who think they have fair pricing. They. Do. Not. I will pick up some singles if I'm really craving getting cards into the decks I'm making immediately. Otherwise, I'm just going on TCG Player or another card shop now, which is sad. I've been going to this shop since it was much, much smaller 25 years ago, moving from place to place a few times. I've never felt so disrespected in an establishment before coming here. The employee working in the front needs to be in the back or something because clearly customer service isn't for him. My fiancé and I went in to buy some single cards, the employee didn't let us touch them or even see them before purchasing, just grabbed them and walked away, saying he was holding them for us. After paying, we noticed one of the cards was heavily damaged and tried to politely bring it to the employees attention. He cut my fiancé off mid sentence with a nasty "no refunds all card sales are final." We asked if we could maybe exchange or something instead and again, were dismissed and made to feel practically stupid by the employee talking to us like children. Thankfully after not being satisfied with that, we were able to talk to the manager who was 150% more helpful and willing to resolve the issue. He let us trade the card back for a new one and was chill about the whole thing. The cashier could learn a thing or two from him! Don't go here if you're new to collecting:( read more

An amazing place to go seek out your game or comic adventures! I've gone several times but one time really stood out. I was buying some comic books for my son's birthday and one of the employees is a comic book artist/writer. Worst day ever at this place. I had a comic book pull this that they decided on their own to dissolve and get rid of. Those were comics myself disabled and my 16 year old son were collecting that we will never be able to see again unless we paid premium prices. Even though last time I came in I made sure they were aware it will probably be a little bit before I can come back because I have disabled and it's hard for me to get around I was told that was fine. My bad for having to wait another month so I can have the money to go get the comics. Manager was very apologetic but he made sure he told me a few times that they needed their money back and that's what it's all about not the people it's all about the money thanks a lot op comics. The worst part my son lost his mom you going to be 2 years next month and this l the only thing we have left those all of us and it was supernatural the TV show, but that's all we had. read more

Love it here- it has pretty much everything and things are pretty decently priced! I particularly love the mid matched dice section. I got a whole bunch for like $10 and just added them to my collection. when I'm up here again I'll definitely be back to visit. read more

We've had quite a few stops in since they opened. Most of them 4/5 star. A few sub par experiences where we are speaking to one another and an associate jumps in and corrects us on the name. Example me: they have that dragon you mentioned the other day. Associate: that's Drampa. I can read but since I'm not a devout Pokémon person/player I will describe it to my other half who does better with remember photos instead of the weird names they have. The dice table is nice as well. Very eclectic. My kids love going. Except they ask at 10am then have to remind them they don't open until noon. read more

This is my oldest son's happy place! Took my son here shortly after Christmas and again a week ago. I probably haven't been in a comic book store since I was in jr. high! The store layout is great and they have an amazing stock. I do wish for a comic book novice, some of the options were easier to find. I also wish there was an easier way to find comic books appropriate for a 3rd grader. They did have a kids section, but it was a bit young for him. The staff has been helpful at pointing out good options and pokemon cards. but like some of the other reviews have said they are a bit high. We will be back! I've been coming here for years and genuinely don't know why I keep coming back. Leaving this review because I'm not going back again. Their staff members always seem in a bad mood, I don't know if it's because of working conditions there or they just hate customers. Either way, I've had an awful experience with the staff nearly every time. Their prices are outrageous as well, they say they buy singles at tcg but sell their cards at Card Kingdom. On top of that they don't give any insight on what they value individually cards at if you try to sell small lots (5-10 cards), and theylowball every single time, I've had them offer 25-30% store credit off of tcg prices for cards over $10. Very cruddy store, their whatnot auctions are even worse. read more

One dedicated to table top games and comics, the other dedicated to Magic. With the closure of Brian's Comics in Petaluma, Outer Planes is now my favorite comic shop in Sonoma County. They have a great selection and always stock any new issues I'm looking for. The staff is friendly and much more pleasant than that other shop in town...and not overwhelmed with old toys or a wall of Funko Pops like some other places. As a bonus, they're also my second favorite Sonoma County game store where I can find some shiny new dice (because I never have enough) or pick up some minis for our next D&D session. (Haven't played any games in the store though.) It's great to get both comics AND gaming in one place! I enjoy visiting here quite a bit. read more

Don't buy or sell cards here. It's a rip off. Came here to sell my Secret Lair Drops which are all mint/near mint. Double sleeved. Guy offered $20 for all of them. I priced them out before I got there at $62 from TCG and $80 from Card Kingdom. The guy said "We get our prices from Card Kingdom". Told him I checked the same prices this morning. Only response was "Dunno man, sorry" Purchases are also extremely overpriced, don't bother. All the boost/draft boxes are double the price compared to anywhere else. read more

I presented a number of cards for trade value, and was quoted much less than expected for several of them. When I inquired why this was the case, I was told (among other, more reasonable reasons) that the cards were in MP condition. They are clearly not. Aside from some -very- light edging, which is difficult to see at best, the cards are perfect. No scratches, no clouding, no warping, no signs of play. I believe that my cards were deliberately undervalued in a blatant attempt to acquire the cards for a lesser value than they were actually worth. I advise caution when dealing with this company. Know the value of what you trade, and be very clear about the condition and compare what you know to what they claim. The customer service was also rude, but that's ultimately secondary to my primary concern of potential dishonesty. read more

I've only recently gotten back into comics and this shop has been great for a guy with two daughters in tow. The staff has been helpful and willing to share books worth reading. I've now subscribed to a few books each month and their subscription discount has been helpful as comics have gone up in price. My daughters love getting comics off the dollar rack near the front of the store. Overall, I've been very happy making this shop my comic home and I hope it stays around. read more

I have been going to OP for years, before they even had MTG lifestyle as a partner of the MTG department. Shawn, a part owner, is the only reason me or any of my play group go back. He is the most knowledgeable MTG player I have ever met. But the choice of new hires has been awful, if you dont talk to an owner or Shawn, you will get shafted. Trade ins--dont bother, rather sell on the side and not get 8 dollars for a 50 dollar card. I'm sad to say yesterday was my last day going to OP, i told my play group what happened and they want nothing to do with the store anymore either. Went in with a 15 card list that i wanted to pick up, 2 people in front of me, took 40 mins. They continued to help other customers over me for 40 mins, till another staff member came out and asked why i wasn't helped yet. The prices he dared tried to give me after all of this were outrageous. He then said if all that time spent looking for these cards were waisted if i didnt buy them. Mentioning how mad he would be if i didnt buy them. Total was more then double what online stores were going to be, including shipping, this is why i was hesitant to buy the cards. i ended up buying them and leaving. Theres another shop 10 minutes away with a very friendly staff charging market prices, and who cares about the returning customers. I asked what they would have charged for the cards and it was a few dollars over market price, with some cards being under. The owners son was in is car when he left on a phone call, he got out of the car and put his phone down to tell to have a good day. My girlfriend said that she felt stared at when we went to OP and was uncomfortable. But at the place down the road, she felt respected and not a piece of meet to the staff and customers. The son went out of his way to say that, this is what OP use to be. Im very sad times have changed, but i would rather support the LGS owned by a family who cares. OP has dominated over this other store since the beginning, and i hope that this may help the other LGS shine bright again. read more

The manager or owner of the shop is a huge scalper! Been in a couple of times and nothing against some of the employees but terrible experience as a customer dealing with a con artist who has everything overpriced trying to make $15-20 dollars or more on customers with singles and sealed products. Other local shops are not this way, yes make some money but why scam people into overpriced products? Completely rips you off badly if you're trying to resell anything! Especially if you have stuff that's graded. He will try or say it's not worth much or less when it's really not, make-believe numbers or facts you get thrown at. Very full of it! You will get robbed if you go here to find or make a deal in that category. Honestly, I wouldn't bother or waste my time coming into this shop trying to buy or trade any of your valuables. I know I'm not going to. It's difficult trying to go in and support a local business run by someone like this trying to add more money into their pockets and take from customers who are unaware. If you aren't looking for tabletop game stuff, don't bother. This place is right down the street from my house and I enjoy popping in from time to time to see what new comics came out. Since Comics for the Win closed, I've been looking for a new home store to keep feeding my comic loving addiction. It will not be Outer Planes. I came in looking for a series that I knew they've carried in the past. I didn't see it on the wall or in the back issue bin. I started looking around for someone to ask. All the employees were busy socializing about magic with one customer/friend. Since they're close by, I decided I'll just come back another time. After thinking about that experience, I wasn't sure I actually wanted to return. I found their Facebook page and sent them a message instead, thinking maybe that will get me an answer. A few days went by, I can see someone saw my message, no response. I followed up, again no response but can see my message was read. I am incredibly disappointed by this. I know there is still the stigma of girls in comic book shops but I try not to think that that is what happened, even if my boyfriend thinks otherwise. I finally found the issues I was looking for from another shop and they were way more friendly. I don't mind going out of my way for good customer service. read more

Still don't like this place but it's getting downgraded because of it's restroom. I cannot believe the state of it. Smelled like straight a$$ when I walked in, had a huge ladder pushed up against the wall, empty toilet paper rolls all over the floor, AND THE WORST PART was the MOUNTAIN of paper towels/toilet paper in the corner. One piece even had poop on it and was just thrown into the trash. I could have puked. I understand that it's a bunch of Magic and D/D nerds but holy crap, no one should ever have to be subjected to this restroom. read more
