It pains me to have to write this review. I've been a comic book collector in the Bay Area since the 1970s with over 45 years of experience with local shops. I used to consider Batcave one of the 'better' comic book stores. I first started going to the store in 2019 when my wife and I would make the store one of our main destinations to buy back issues when we were passing through the area. This store used to be something my wife and I looked forward to visiting. Unfortunately, that has changed. About a month ago, we made a special trip to Santa Rosa to pick out some back issues. We had not visited in a while and we looked forward to it. While browsing the back issues, I found that I needed to use the restroom. I saw a fellow customer go into a door that appeared to be a bathroom. There was no sign on the door indicating that this restroom was not for public use, etc. When the customer walked out, I went in after them. It was extremely gross inside with a mop partially blocking access to the toilet and I felt uncomfortable touching anything. The next thing I know, the owner was yelling at me aggressively through the door and pounding in a violent manner. He shouted, "The restroom isn't for public use!!!" I walked back out past the owner, apologizing profusely while he glared at me. I explained that I saw another customer go in to use the restroom so I assumed it was for public use. I told him I was extremely sorry, that it was an honest mistake and that it wouldn't happen again. The owner didn't respond, just scowled at me. I heard his wife loudly yelling, "(insert expletive insult here)!!!" I proceeded to put the back issues I had picked out back in their boxes. I no longer felt comfortable spending my money there after being shouted at and insulted. It was a mistake anyone could have made considering the door didn't have signage saying not to use it. But the owner's reaction was over the top and extremely aggressive over something so small. I went to find my wife, explaining what had happened when I showed up without back issues. She was extremely upset and unbeknownst to me posted a review saying that the owner's behavior was unprofessional. She was not ok with the way I was treated after so many years of going there. The owner could have responded to her review in an professional adult manner but instead he chose to throw a tantrum in his response, claiming that I had left urine on his floor causing a biohazard. I thought that was the end of it. However, it wasn't. A few weeks later, I was attending the old school Berkeley Comic Show. I walked up to one of the booths and started looking through a long box. Suddenly, a hand came over the box, blocking my view. A voice yelled at me, "you are NOT welcome here! You need to keep walking! You are banned for LIFE!" I walked away calmly, caught off guard by his unhinged anger towards me. He was shouting at the top of his lungs, trying to get the attention of the other vendors at the convention and his customers - anyone who would listen. He was trying to embarrass me and get the other vendors to turn me away as well. Thankfully, the other vendors paid him no notice. He was shouting about what a piece of garbage I was for using his bathroom, how pissed he was because my wife had written a negative review, he kept going on and on. I have honestly never encountered anything like this behavior in my forty five years of comic collecting. The level of anger coming from him was out of proportion for what was a simple misunderstanding. All I can only think that the owner must be an extremely unhappy and bitter person to hold such a grudge over something so small, that he would try and ruin my convention experience by embarrassing me to other vendors. Needless to say, I will never be shopping at Batcave again. I would encourage others to do the same. I wasn't even going to post this review until I was harassed in a public space by the owner. I only hope that the owner gets the help that needs, whether that's attending anger management courses or possibly going into a different field of business. read more

You enter the place and walk down to the basement, where it opens up into a fairly large basement. It was pretty impressive as it was filled with life-size Star Wars memorabilia/props like frozen in carbonite Han Solo, Boba Fett, R2-D2, etc. There was a lot of Funko Pop collectibles, toys, GI Joe Action figures/vehicles, Star Wars action figures, comic books... There was so much to see. It did feel like you were at a convention looking for stuff to buy. The owner (wife) was friendly and helpful. read more

The good: Nice selection of older figures, toys, and comics in a spacious place. Large inventory. Good place to find older movie and tv related toys. Lots of back issues of comics, including some harder to find stuff. The less than good: Not a great place to bring younger kids to stoke the wondrous effect toys can have. It's not that kind of store, rather a more "serious" toy place for the collector or toy aficionado. Pricing on items isn't clear until you get to the register, which can be a little unsettling. It's unfortunate (though understandable) to hear the "ask your child to look with his eyes, not his hands" when it's your youngster getting excited. Overall: If you are a parent whose kid is still in the "grabbing" phase, I'd advise skipping a stop here because it might be frustrating. If you don't have kids, definitely worth a stop. read more

The entrance has a really high step making it hard for to get into building with customers having mobility issues. Really surprised City of Santa Rosa hasn't tried to fix the sidewalk and adjust to the store entrance . I was in town for a conference, wanted to check out Star Wars merchandise, however unable to get up the step on storefront since I am disabled. It is an abnormal height for a step and hard for elderly, disabled, or even young kids. There is no elevator to my knowledge. Probably a nice store with good people working there. I'll never know since the store is wholly inaccessible to people with mobility issues. There's an initial step up to get in the doorway, then a full flight of stairs down to the store which is in some kind of basement level/cave (so it's not just a clever name). My family investigated for me, and the staff offered to "shop" for me if I provided them with a list, but made it clear that there are no alternate entrances, elevators, or even hidden bat-poles to get to the store. Which, y'know ... sucks. I'm bummed that they don't want me or any other wheelchair user - or our friends and families - as customers. I had been looking forward to my first visit to this store, and it's a bummer that I will never be able to make that happen. There is very likely some kind of loophole that allows them to not comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, which only went into effect a mere 33 years ago, but it's troubling that they would want to operate out of a facility that is not functional for everyone. read more

Yet another store in this area (Railroad Square) that is not ADA accessible. There is no part of this store that one can visit if you're not able to go up and down stairs. Sucks to be excluded from a fandom store because you physically can't do stairs. read more

In the age of toy-r-us-less desert, locally owned toy and comics shops are like a waterfall in the middle the sad sad desert. The owner of the shop also runs the Santa Rosa Toy and Comic Con annually, so they kinda know their stuff. The basement shop is filled to the brim with toys and comic from yesteryears all the way to today. Though most of the merch are the owners, they do consignment sales for a few different collectors. Fair warning, if you are looking for only new toys, thought they do have lots of these, I would say about 75% of their stuff are used. 3-99, they have something for just about everyone. I been here a hand full of times, and have never walked out empty handed. read more

I've been around the country collecting toys and comics for 40+ years and The Batcave is one of the best stores around. One of the things that makes The Batcave really unique is the rare prototype toys they have on display and huge wall of vintage comics. The owners Mike and Amanda have been part of toy and comic community for a long time and really know their stuff. You name it and they probably have it including Star Wars, G.I. Joe, Transformers, Godzilla, Hot Toys and comic based figures and statues from every time period. A very fun and unique store with something for everyone. Whether it's a gift for a child or just the child in you! Walking through the Cave takes me back to some of my fondest memories as a child in the 80's. A time when toys, games, cartoons, comics, and collectibles were unmatched by today's standards! Really enjoyed coming here. When it comes to comics/superheroes they have a wide selection and there is so much to see. I'm more of a sports guy so was looking out for that but they didn't have much. I first found this place a year ago. My children and I had seen the batcave booth at a convention. The owner did not accept credit cards and I had no cash on me. I told him we would stop by the store to pick up the items we wanted. He didn't seem to care much. Not personal with customers at all. As an introvert, I gave him the benefit of the doubt and chalked it up to he's just quiet. Ffwd to us stopping in the store. Once you manage to get parking (not easy since the place doesn't open until noon), you are met with lots of signs about what behavior is appropriate or not. "Please keep an eye on your children", "no food or drink", "leave backpacks on this table". All rules I can understand.. but again.. you enter feeling like you aren't really welcome. The atmosphere is quiet despite the movies playing (very cool touch). The collections are neat but nothing you can't find on Ebay. Again, we stopped by to have an experience. I could buy anything off of ebay but wanted my kids to have a neat experience, plus we wanted to support local businesses. The owner was quiet and gave us suspicious looks the entire time. We felt unwelcome. I ended up buying a few hundred in toys despite him saying he didn't have anything like what we were looking for (guess he doesn't know his stock?). We didn't stop by again until this weekend. My son needed some cheering up. We fought for a parking spot. Read the signs. Followed directions. I made sure my children were respectful with the big bins of random mcdonalds toys and collectibles. Not to break anything. I had boxes of things we picked out. The only time I wasn't looking at them was when I was trying to find a photo to see if we already had ABC XYZ.. or to look up what was in certain mcdonalds wrapped toys so we knew what we were buying. Other than that my eyes were on them the entire time. Towards the end, we were waiting for the register to open up and I saw a pile of things in which you needed to TOUCH to look through. There was no sign posted to NOT touch, and it was a bin where you couldn't see what was on the bottom without moving what was on top. I suddenly hear a "ma'am please make sure he looks with his eyes, not his hands". Well, ok. Guess the owner forgot a sign. He has enough of them placed all over ‍ shocked he'd forget one there. We can't buy what we can't see so we put everything back and left. We won't be back. The items were plastic btw not glass and yes I know hands can leave marks on things (acid amd dirt wtc) but we just simply were not having a good experience and that was the whole point. The 6 year old is a customer too. In fact the 10 year old was just pity buying something so she didn't have to say "nothing here I want". Mind you he did nothing about the rowdy F bomb dropping teenagers that came in. Just us crazy rowdy homeschoolers and yes I know it's a collectibles shop amd maybe not geared towards kids (as silly as it sounds), but that's what I'm saying. Kids are not welcome here. The staff is friendly and checked on me while I was browsing the expansive collection of comics. I've been going to the batcave for years and it's a great store with a great selection. I felt prompted to make this review because when checking if they were open today I found a barrage of bad reviews complaining that the business has shut in store shopping due to the pandemic. How f*cking selfish can you be to rate a small business, someone's livelihood and passion, poorly because you feel entitled to be able to be there in person hacking your germs all around them during one of the worst pandemics of our lifetime? Buy some stuff off their website and shut the hell up. The owners are not entitled to risk their lives because you want to walk around in their store with your little little germ factory kids. The Batcave is a wonderful edition to Railroad Square. The store is much larger than I ever could have imagined and there are plenty of things to check out! The owner, Mike, is absolutely amazing. He has given back to the community through various donations and events. Now that he has a store, it's even better! It is a cool shop to take a trip down memory lane as well as seeing what the present brings to us. The prices are as expected for collectibles and I have never felt like things were overpriced. Really terrible ownership I called and asked the owner if he sold vintage Star Wars , he said he did and he was not opening his doors due to covid. I told him I was up in the area for 5 days and to contact me what he had . Not one call or response back. I feel for a lot of business owners and was willing to give them some good business. Not letting me know what he had just shows pure laziness. No excuse, be receptive to real buyers and customers who are willing to give you business during Covid. read more

My boyfriend and I have truly enjoyed this store since opening day. The staff is very knowledgeable about the products that are brought into the store. We have brought in some of our collection to find out it's not as valuable as we had hoped BUT the staff was so polite about it and showed us online pricing for our items. I know it's hard to separate sentimental value from actual value at times. But not with such a great staff there by your side. We love this store and come in weekly to shop. read more

I was watching one of their live videos on Facebook. I've never bought from them before but their page was shared on another that I follow so I decided to check them out. During the live mike opened a can in the background ( he was manning the camera at this point ) and joked that it was beer. Laughing at his joke he then showed the camera that it was a doctor pepper. I commented that DP are the nectar of the gods ( because I think they are delicious) I was promptly blocked from his page. He said that I made a derogatory comment. My wife, who was also watching the live, ( we are both collectors ) asked why I was blocked, and he stated it was because I called doctor pepper DP.......such a weird reason to block a new customer who literally did nothing wrong. Both my boys were excited to check this comic book store out for the first time. This place is absolutely horrible! The guy at the front desk was so rude! He watched us the entire time we were browsing. He rudely asked my 15 year old to stop bending the comic books as I was watching him myself and not once did he bend any comic book. My 13 year old asked him if he had a red hood book and he rudely answered him as well. Yet he went to talk to two other customers at one point and was nice as could be but never asked us if we needed help finding anything. My son said he noticed him watching us and that made both my boys uncomfortable. My kids have never been to a comic book store. They were excited to go and this place has ruined their expectations and excitement. I will never step foot on this store again. If anyone knows of any others comic book store, please let me know! I will gladly spend money anywhere else but there! read more

This is tough one. I really like the store and my 8 year old son does as well. We've purchased multiple items and are always respectful of the merchandise when we go. I also really like that the owner puts on the Santa Rosa Toy & Comic-Con which my son and I always attend. The problem with the place is that the owner, who frequently works behind the counter, is not cut out for customer service. He's almost always rude and watches every move you make like you're out to steal from him. I've dealt with his wife and another employee and have had a much better experience. My word of advice as a small business owner is to hire some folks that smile and are friendly to work your counter. You're doing an awesome job of curating the comics and toys that you have in your shop, just make sure it feels fun and friendly when your customers walk in. read more

Finally, Santa Rosa has gotten the comic book & vintage toy store it deserves. I was more than exited when I heard that the Batcave was opening the doors. My first visit did not disappoint, first things first. It is easy to find a parking spot, and the location couldn't be better. I walked in and immediately got that little kid feeling as I walked in. Toys, toys, toys, and good toys at that. All my childhood memories, right there in front of me. Star Wars, GI Joe, Nintendo, He-Man, and my personal favorite as a kid muscle men! I picked up some muscle men, that I didn't have in my collection. As well as a GI Joe that I'm now starting to collect as well. I will be back for sure, as I will need some NES games soon. Store hours are posted as "Wed - Sun10am - 8pm" I got here at 6:20pm on a Saturday to find a post-it note that read "We will re-open at 6:00 thank you!" The door was locked. I thought maybe they forgot to open it so I called the store. No answer. There's a cell phone number left an on the answering message so I tried that too. No answer. Waited around for 30min and no one showed up. 4 other people stopped by during the time I was waiting. Not a good way to make sales. read more

My boyfriend asked for a marvel figurine on his Christmas list. We went to the Batcave and bought the figurine and it turned out my sister had already bought it. We went back to the store not even an hour after buying it and asked if we could exchange or get store credit. We had the receipt, it was unopened, and we had just bought it 45 minutes prior. Instead of the cashier saying sorry we cant do that he says nothing and just points to a sign. So rude, terrible store policy, and I will never shop here again. read more

The Shelter in Place has been very hard on my daughter who has Autism and other special needs. Batcave put together a special set of toys just for her!!!! Dropped by after visiting Charles M Schulz museum. They have very impressive collections, both vintage and recent at fair prices. Service was very friendly and helpful which you normally do not expect in comic stores. They do switch their items periodically so do support them and don't let such a good place go away. read more

Great name for the location. The collection of toys and action figures is vast, prices are reasonable. It's a collectors paradise. They have a lot of back issues, singles and rare reads. Please support you local comic store and go here and buy some shit because its well worth it. This place is amazing!!! Just what Santa Rosa needed. I brought my 10 year old son here and he was blown away as much as I was. Really nice staff and loaded with tons of classic toys and comic books.
