To be fair, we saw the last show of a run and the actors' costumes probably hadn't been washed the entire run... so the smell in the room was so ripe that my guest became nauseous from the onset, and I noticed that our clothes actually STUNK like the room full of BO by the time we walked out of there. That lone air conditioner is also very loud and makes incessant "bug/ dust in the vent" cracks, pops, and whirs throughout the show. Thus, the acoustics in the room (which just sorta haphazardly bounce off the empty space/ walls) are drowned out and I cannot hear the show. I am not *that old*. A fix? Purchase a few more air conditioners, get a sound system, encourage productions to wash costumes throughout the run. Because if not... this isn't a theater. Not in the least. It is a hot, smelly, bare-walled echo-y room in a 4th floor walk up.

38 Parlor is a unique venue that can be an out of the norm event space for your next event…read more On the 3rd floor, you will find a full floor uniquely designed with some ornate vintage pieces, exposed brick, luxurious wall paper and an old skool phone booth. (great photo opps) The main room is ornately decorated with vintage rugs, wood end tables and velvet couches. There is a small bar and a vintage claw foot bathtub that is used to chill beverages. Additionally there is a full kitchen with two additional specially themed rooms and a small private alcove. You can bring your choice of food and beverages (the kitchen is useful) to be served to your guest for whatever event you are celebrating and there is room for a DJ to set up also. I was in attendance for a private party and there was good use of the entire space. The opportunity for dancing was readily available however, the rugs can be a trip hazard so it's important to be careful. Unfortunately I failed to get pics of the awesome highlights about the space that I mentioned but do know it was pretty cool and a great change of pace and atmosphere. Just A Note: The elevator was out of service (12/30/18) and there were extension cords running up and down the stairs which was a cause for concern. I'm not sure if it's a regular occurrence or if it had anything to do with something on another floor.

The building is unassuming from the outside -- no front window, signs, or anything signifying that we arrived at the Mansion aside from the monumental, stone facade wedged between a few retail stores. Doormen welcomed us in and I was immediately taken aback by the majestic feel of the space - high ceilings, bright lighting and open area. The main floor opened with two bars along the walls followed by a section with white bar tables and stools along the sides and white leather couches in the center. A white stage occupied by a jazz trio was set against the back wall. The catering was done in-house (sponsored by Metro Cafe' I believe?) and I was pleased with all of the hors douvres I tasted ranging from prosciutto wrapped asparagus to mini quesadillas to duck to chocolate mousse. We were especially fascinated by the lighting, which subtly alternated among blues, reds and whites. I took a peek downstairs and was amazed at the difference in ambiance. It had a lounge feel, darker but still classy. A long bar lined one side of the wall and the rest of the space was scattered with couches and tables with a DJ at the back playing the latest hip-hop music. I liked that each floor had a completely different vibe, so crowds of different demographics could settle where they were most comfortable, without sacrificing service since event staff circulated the same food and bars served the same drinks. If I were a company or organization with the necessary funding, I would definitely consider booking Bogardus Mansion for my next event.

The main floor has a stage where the DJ was setup, and a makeshift bar. Downstairs felt more like a club or lounge, and had another stage, full bar, coat check, and booth seating. The acoustics were more performance conducive, and DC band Backyard performed. This is more of an event space, and their website describes it as a place where one can host anything "from holiday parties to seated dinners, cocktail parties, weddings, corporate events and fashion shows." I would agree with them there; the mansion is very nice. The in-house catering was blegh to me. I'm not big on mushroom anything, and don't see how anyone can dress up pigs in a blanket. (I don't eat pig anyway!) The HIGHLIGHT of the night, however---was a woman who pushed through the crowd as we were waiting in line to yell at the security guard for throwing parties next to her house. I don't know what your realtors told you lady, but when you move next door to an event space or performance venue in Tribeca...shit tends to happen. ;) The security guards were able to quell her obnoxiousness though, and conceded to moving the line so as not to block her palatial palace. :)

Then they hold on to the deposit for four months now and refuse to respond to emails requests. The salesperson who were so nice and personable initially also refused to help. Proceed with caution.
