I have an Aventon e-bike in need of pedal assist mode repair (it didn't work at all soon after a beach ride--I know, kind of dumb). Starting with my initial phone call to Open Road, every interaction I had with the staff was handled courteously, professionally, and knowledgeably. I dropped my bike off and received an apology that the work probably wouldn't be finished until the following week--no problem since I wasn't in a hurry, but I appreciated the warning. Called to get some work done on my bike. I was told I'd have to leave to bike for several days. It's pretty simple work for someone with the correct tools and know how. The kind of job that shouldn't take longer than about 30 min. I explained that I'm from 1.5 hr away and I'd like to make the drive only once if possible. I asked if they would be able to schedule me an appointment to get the work done. He said I'd have to call back and speak with Jeff the next day. I called back and spoke to Jeff and explained my situation. He said they're really busy and wouldn't be able to get to it today. I asked about next weekend or the weekend after. It became very clear, he had absolutely no interest in doing the work. I said I'll find another shop. Poor customer service. Sadly more of the norm when it comes to bike shops these days. read more

Picked up my Specialized bike from wasn't very pleased with the way it fit and considered returning it. Then the tire went flat and I just didn't want it anymore. I took it in for service and Robby was great! Replaced the tubing, cut the seat down, changed out my handle bars, recommended a comfortable seat, and now it fits PERFECT! I felt the good vibes from the moment I walked in this business. I'm admittedly not much of a "bike person" and wasn't even really looking for a bike. After a nice chat, Wally showed me some of his selection so I put my name on a waiting list. I was pretty excited when Wally called me personally a few days later and said that he had a bike for me. I started seriously cycling during the COVID-19 lock downs. I was making great gains and even moving up racing brackets in Zwift when I got the RONA. The end result was six months of trying just to get back on the bike to get going. When I did, I had lost a lot of power (and lung capacity). The bike I had purchased used the year before was not feeling so well on the rump. My brother-in-law suggested I meet with Scott Sumney for a fit. I scheduled an appointment for the following week. When I showed up, Scott was caught up in a meeting but I was happy to wait. He finished up in about ten minutes and was highly apologetic. He spent extra time helping me get fitted to the bike and even gave an extra fifteen minute test ride just to make up for the lost time. The bike needed some minor part changes to make the 54" bike just barely meet my 56" long frame. He even comped me on those as well. It's been six months since my fit. My power greatly improved (almost back to pre Covid) as a result of the fit. The bikes way more comfortable (I still really need a frame size upgrade or two but it's as best as anyone could ask) and I couldn't be happier. Went in not knowing what kind of bike store this was. I was thinking it was some kind of used bike store where I could get my kids some bikes. These bikes seemed to be more high end. The staff was very helpful regardless. I let them know the bikes were not exactly what I was looking for and they did not push to sell their products. They respected my decision and let me know if after I purchased my girls bikes that they would do a safety inspection on them for me. I came in looking for a phone mount after calling another store with 5 star reviews on google. Craig from that store was incredibly kind going the extra mile to check inventory and direct me to this location because it was closer to where I live. When I arrived here I was greeted immediately by Amil. The mount was complicated and he installed it for me for free and even asked me to come around the counter to look at the map of my destination. (He gave me direction pointers for my trip out to Baldwin rail trail.) I asked for air in my tires and of course he was more than willing. It's unfortunate the reviews are lackluster because my experience was great and it seemed everyone there was courteous and kind to their patrons. Brought my bike in to have a flat fixed. They were busy and short staffed, I understand. Employee said I would have to leave it. "When should I come back?" "When I call you." He never called. When I picked up the bike, the seat height had been changed (I'm 6', and I couldn't even get on the bike). It's a cruiser, not a racer. Also, the gear shift is messed up. It rattles and won't stay in gear. Taking my business elsewhere. read more

Went in today to have my road bike with 1x drivetrain train adjusted. The new mechanic was very helpful and had a great attitude. Fixed the problem within 15 minutes for minimal cost. The owner, Scott Summey, was great as always, but the other manager, Scott Gross, kept walking by my bike while it was on the work stand and making snarky comments about my bike setup. It's attitudes such as his that make it no small wonder that brick and mortar stores are going away. I'll keep going to support Scott Summey, but I'll go to elsewhere if Scott Gross crosses me again. read more

My experience with Open Road Bicycles has been outstanding. I purchased a bicycle for my son and Scott walked us through the whole process. It wasn't an expensive bicycle, but we were treated very well. My son is 6'4", so we needed an extra large frame (I wouldn't have known this on my own). Whether you are looking for expert advice or already have something in mind ... whether you are looking for a kids bike, mountain bike, recreational bike or high-end road/triathlon bike, these guys will bend over backwards to help. Over the last 7 years, we have purchased several road bikes, used their expert service, purchased a hybrid bike, as well as a ton of gear/accessories from them, RARELY with an issue, and NEVER with an issue that they did not quickly and more than reasonably resolve. If you are looking for super cheap, they will likely not beat any price out there, but their prices are reasonble, and with that you get excellent service, follow-up, extra-value, and expert advice locally. I have purchased items over the internet more cheaply, but when I need quick, reliable expert advice or help with options, equipment, etc., there is no one I would trust more than these guys. They carry a pretty wide range of manufacturers, and if they don't have it in their store from a dealer they represent, they will be more than happy to order it for you. They are incredibly supportive of local cycling, events, youth and teams, and offer demos at the shop and around town. The staff are helpful, and easy-going ... never snooty, although they can be humorously sarcastic once they get to know you ... I really appreciate that they make you feel like one of the crew! First time I came in here was great but every time I came in after was a disaster. I had them order me a saddle bc they did not have one in stock and they did so with ease from the specialized brand website. They told me 10-12 days which I had no problem with bc of the times we are in currently and how the bike industry is hurting bc of a massive spike in sales. 3 weeks goes by and nothing from them in their end. I would call a few times a week and they would just brush it off and say "maybe next week, I don't know" and then make some excuse and blame the manufacturer. After 3 weeks I called Specialized personally and they said that while they have been busy 3 weeks was way too long and I would be better off buying higher priced items directly from them. I always want to support LBS bc it's a part of being a good community member. After a month I call them again and Scott (not sure which one) answers the phone and without digging to find out the problem blames the manufacturer again! He does a little digging and finds out that they messed up by ordering the wrong saddle and putting it in inventory after it had been there for a week! I also took my gf in to buy a nice road saddle and when they found out we bought a bike from a different LBS they started to bash them and how awful they are at fitting customers. The guy then tried to sell us a different bike for her as if we can just return the bike we already bought! I went in today to pick up the saddle they ordered incorrectly for me bc I just can't wait another 2 weeks for the correct saddle. When I went in not one person said a damn thing and the guy who cashed me out never even muttered a word. Plenty of other great shops in Jax unfortunately you can't get much Specialized brand stuff at any of them. Online ordering it is then! read more

So my experience at he Henricks Avenue location unfortunately was a complete waste of my valuable time. I spent about a hour at the location recently, and was assisted by a womsn salesperson who patiently guided me into a bike that would meet my needs. The color I wanted was not in the store, and the owner/manager said thst they had one in their inventory and would have it at the store in 2 days assembled. Its been two weeks since I was in the store, and never was notified that the bike had come in, so I called to see wahat was going on. The woman salesperson was not in so I told the person who took my call that I had been waiting for the woman/salesperson to call me when the bike she ordered for me came in and haven't heard from her. She told me would find out what hapened. The salesperson who helped me that day had taken my phone number, so she could contact me when the bike came in. Long story short, the saleswoman never ordered the bike, couldn't even recall me in the store helping me,. A total cluster you know what. I wanted to buy from my local business, only a couple of miles from where I live. Ain't gonna happen. So disappointed, and a complete waste of my time. read more
