Took my wife's cannondale bike for a tuneup and new stem, and an updated gel seat. Been to this shop before, but always dealt with salespeople/techs, not Tom Schneider the owner as I did this time. So wife is upset I switched her seat out and wants the original put back in. I hadn't picked it up yet so I called Tom apologetically and asked him to put the original seat back on. He said he threw it in the dumpster. When I told him that this was not a seat swap but a new seat purchase, and that I wanted the old seat back, that it was not his right to throw the original seat away, he blew up at me on the phone. Absolutely volatile this guy! No filter, no professional emotional behavior check, just verbally nasty and abusive. Tom told me he would undo whatever I was paying him to do, and to come get my bike, and he hung up on me. When I got there my wife's bike was by the front door. The original seat wasn't, so I asked about it, and he went fuming to the back to look for it. Wow!! This could have been handled so easily by him, but he reminded me that he's been doing this a long time, his point being that I was wrong not him. This may be the closest bike shop around for my family, and I have been going here for years, but this experience with the OWNER just severed all future service or sales needs at ALL Open Road shops. I figure if there's one here there's probably others like him elsewhere. Just my decision, you decide at your own misfortunate visit. read more

These guys are professionals. Had several small issues with my neglected mtn bike (which I purchased elsewhere). I typically do my own maintenance, but some things it's better to let a properly equipped shop do it. Front thru hub bearings were getting crunchy, they gave me worse case estimate -a week to find the bearings and best case - Maybe 2 or 3 days, following day they called and fixed at a very reasonable price. I think I'll just let them service all of my bikes, instead of wasting my time. They are very knowledgeable and have a good selection of replacement parts and upgrades. read more

Where do I start, walked in to this shop about a year ago and a half ago,explained to them I wanted to learn more about road cycling. Tom and Gary invited me out on rides and took an enormous amount of time to get me to the point where I could ride an entire 30 mile ride with them and keep up. I went in expecting to spend a few thousand dollars on a new road bike, but they talked me out of it and showed me how my entry level REl bike could work for now. Customer service is outstanding! Last Sunday, I took my inexpensive bike in because of a flat tire. I had purchased the bike at a large store for a pretty low price, but I have been satisfied that it shifts well and even has disc brakes. Every time I ride it, I am glad I selected this Schwinn. Last Sunday, Open Road Bicycles replaced the inner tube on the rear wheel and I only paid $16. Moreover, it was accomplished in less than 10 minutes, so I was very satisfied with them, and wrote a positive Yelp review. Today, the following Saturday, the same tire went flat again. I took it in and they said they would replace the inner tube for free within 10 minutes! I inquired why I would be having flats and was told this bike has cheap, very thin tires. In the 2 1/2 months I have owned it, I have logged 527 miles, so a considerable number of miles really. I'm sure Schwinn calculated that most people don't ride that many miles in several years and would prefer keeping the price down. I have no complaints. So I asked them to put better tires on front and rear. Open Road Bicycles accomplished this repair, with a new inner tube on the rear for only $53. Actually, they didn't charge anything for the inner tube. And again, they accomplished service with a smile in less than 10 minutes! It is so good to have a local bike shop that you can depend upon! Sent Mom in to get a taller adjustable stem put on road bike trek 2200 650c modified to 1x drive chain with XLC xwide seat. Current stem puts handle bars below seat. New stem would gave give 4inches higher for a more upright ride, Mom is 69 and strong. So stem I have her get was 25.4 not 22.2 so it don't fit and the shop owner cannot find one that does, I found the 22.2 adjustable 25.4 handle bar size in a few mins on Amazon, and sells her a racing saddle because he said it will help. I do not trust this bike shop. read more

You know, I've read the other reviews, and I have to put in my "atta boy" here. I came in with an old bike that I had let sit in a garage for a couple decades (no lie) - covered with sawdust and regular dust, tires and tubes dry-rotted, old brakes with plastic caliper parts from the old days. Not only did they say they could fix it up good as new and safe to ride, and gave me a detailed estimate, but they promised they could do it in a day! So that's really good, right? Well, they even went one better - they had it ready later that same day, and for less than I had been expecting. And the bike rides better than it ever did before. Took my husbands wheels in to have the tires replaced today. 2 ppl working & 1 couple was there ahead of me that had already been helped. I was greeted & the wheels were taken to the back immediately. I was under the assumption that they would have to be left & picked up later. That was a nice surprise. So I petted the pet cat & looked at the expensive price tags on all the pretty bikes while waiting. It didn't take long at all. But when I was told the total I was taken back! $70 for new tires! Now mind you I'm new to the cycling scene but that seems pricey to me. I wish that I had been consulted ahead of time. The gentleman that assisted me seemed gruff & not very sociable. But maybe that's just his personality. I wasn't pressured into buying a new bike or signing up for a bike club like some of the other reviews mentioned. I have been going to Open Road in Fleming Island for several years. I wanted to move from a hybrid bike to a road bike, and the shop's owner Tommie was able to help me determine the best bike for my budget. He did a bit of research for me and offered me several options to choose from. When I first purchased my road bike, Tommie initially talked me out of some items that I didn't need right away...for example, when I started I wasn't necessarily ready for a high-end computer or clips. As I became a more seasoned rider I gradually added the appropriate upgrades to my bike. The staff at Open Road have always been helpful and ensured my bike is safe, fits me correctly, and is appropriately equipped for my riding needs. They've never pushed me into more expensive items nor overcharged me for service or accessories.
