I bought my nephew and I both used bikes this summer so we could take them out. He is only here a couple months a year so I didn't want to spend hundreds. My nephews bike needed a new tube and a little work so we took it to ZenCog on a Saturday morning. They gave a fair estimate for the work and told us it would be done in a couple hours. I brought my bike here back in October because my front tire was flat and it cost $25 which was completely fine. Came back again to get my rear tire fixed and they charged me $50 because the pedal was rubbing against the brake. They fixed it and charged me without asking when all I wanted was my tire fixed. Beyond angry because I couldn't care less about my facebook marketplace bike pedal rubbing against something. They should have called me or texted to ask if I wanted it fixed and how much it would cost. I WOULD HAVE SAID NO. Never going back. read more

They really listen and want to help you with your dream bicycle setup, whatever that means for you. I personally love Surly, and while they didn't have a Surly Krampus in stock in my size, I got to try out the one size up that they had. Fell in love with it, and they were able to get one my size shipped to them and they assembled everything for me, in just a few days. Wide assortment of pedals, saddles, racks, bags, etc to completely customize it as well. They were genuinely stoked for me. They host community bike rides on a regular basis, too. A friend purchased a foldable bike from here and he loves it. I just wanted to see what they had in stock. The staff answered our multiple questions and looked up bikes if they didn't have it on the showroom floor. Of course I browsed while my friend asked about tires and that's when I saw it. I've wanted a basket for my bike forever. They had multiple styles but none of them called out to me until I saw the blue basket. Yep, it was all mine! This basket easily comes off so I can take it into Publix when I'm shopping for a few items and I just love the color! Yes it was $40 but they are a small business and I like to support small business owners. Plus it was perfect for me! They even do consignment if you have a bike in good condition that you no longer use. Update: Amazon has it for only $8 less but no awesome customer service and not in blue! read more

I took a couple of bikes to get chains replaced, a tire, and some brake work done. A few days later, they called me and gave me an estimate of $300, which seemed like a lot, but I still accepted the deal. It took three weeks for them to be ready, and when I went to pick them up, they said they were $550. This repair is way more expensive than the bike itself. They're really crazy if they think I'm going to pay for it. read more

Unprofessional and disrespectful bike shop business... I contacted Zen Cog over the phone to have a minor repair done. I asked when it would be best to bring my bike in, as I was riding it in & hoping to ride it back home the same day. I was told and I quote - "That sounds like your problem, not our problem", at which point I commented on the lack of customer service and the Zen Cog owner or rep on the phone told me "FxxK You" and hung up on me. I would be hard pressed to think the owner(s) of this (or any) small business would want their business represented in this way when a customer calls for service (or maybe they do?) and it will be interesting to see how this same person addresses me when I'm standing in front of them vs. the over the phone. read more

I had a Full Suspension Kona MTB project bike that I've been working on for quite some time now. It was about 75% complete until I stumbled into fitment and spec issues. What to do? ZenCog Bicycles came to mind. I remember meeting Garfield (owner of ZenCog) and his assistant, Matt, at Tillie Fowler Regional Park during a Kona Demo Day. And since they specialize in the same brand bikes, I decided to bring my bike there for assessment and completion. I worked with Chris, one of Zen Cog's knowledgeable, ever helpful minions. Right away, Chris knew right away what parts were needed and what needed to be done. Days to follow, my bike was 100% complete. I really digged the fast turnaround. Fantastic service, done at a reasonable price. What more can you ask for? What originally started as frustrations has turned into nothing but relief for me. And what a perfect timing to say the least, because I needed that bike ready to roll for a major 50 Miler bike ride event I am participating in the week to follow. Best local shop in JAX! I wanted to try a bike with bigger tires than my road bikes I've ridden for 50yrs. So, I spent some time researching Surly and decided on a Midnight Special with SRAM Rival 1X. It's a great bike! The guys at Zencog made sure we got the fit right and swapped out the 175 crank to a 170, changed the stem and got the steer tube sized right. Excellent service and solid mechanical work here! Garf and his staff are obsessed with bikes which are great for someone like me when I decided to buy a used bike to only find out it had few non-disclosed issues. Instead of telling me I need a new bike, they helped me choose a new derailleur, there was a spare front derailleur on-hand, a new Jones H-bar handlebar with big red chunky grips, and a new chain. The bike is now custom to my liking and I've saved a ton of money not buying a new bike or a nicer used bike. I have gotten tune-ups for various bikes over the years and quality has always been phenomenal. The guys that work here are super cool and so helpful! I came here after getting my java next door just to browse their inventory. I was immediately greeted and was given some options with different price ranges. Currently, they are selling some used cruisers for $150 and they are in pretty good shape. However, the bike I want is a new urban bike that's $700. What's cool is Matt told me that they offer payments and if I wanted, I could put money down until it's paid off and get the bike I wanted. Who does that? I guess they do. Cool. I left with their card, printed information and a colored pamphlet about the bike model I wanted as well as a flyer for a Saturday morning bike ride group they sponsor locally. I had a stellar experience at ZenCog last Thursday. My husband's bike chain had broken, so I called a few shops in town to check about pricing for the chain and install. ZenCog was competitive and just a mile or so from home, so that's where I went. Paul greeted and gladly accompanied me to my car to assist in removing the bike from my trunk. He "went over" the bike with me and explained that he liked to point out things of note to his customers. I appreciate that. The bike could stand a tune-up, but for time and money-sake, I opted for just the chain replacement that day. Paul mentioned that it would be about ~30 minutes, since he was helping with both repairs and the sales floor that day. Since I lived so close, I asked him to simply call when it was ready. I received a phone call shortly thereafter and, when I returned to the shop to retrieve the bike, Paul again gladly obliged when I asked him to help me load it back in my trunk. The guys there are friendly, welcoming and happy to help. Plus, their prices were the best I had found in my initial chain replacement "research." Knowing we recently purchased two used bikes, I have a strong feeling we'll be back to see them at some point! ;) read more

ZenCog, located right outside of 5 Points, is a small but excellent bike shop. They do it all. If you need your bike repaired or need a new accessory, they will fix or install on the spot. You can buy a new or used bike, and there is also the option to build your own custom bicycle right there as well. While it can become expensive as you add items to your total, most items are excellent when it comes to quality, and individually, are at a fair price. You can usually find information about bike races, riding groups, and charity events here if you are interested in that. Another interesting thing about ZenCog is that they charge via Paypal. If you aren't comfortable with this method of payment, make sure you have some cash on your person. Moved into the neighborhood and needed to spruce up the bike a bit with some added accessories for my bike riding excursions. Did some checking around and ZenCog was the closest to me so I gave a call and talked to a tech on the phone before riding my bike on over. Once there, I had the most helpful hard working (it was like 100 degrees outside) employee that not only helped me get exactly what I needed, she even installed it all for me. The shop is loaded to the top with goodies for your bikes, along with new and used bikes for sale. If you are not quite sure which bike is for you, they will help fit you with a bike that meets your needs. They also have bike rentals!!!! As soon as I rode up, I was approached and asked how I could be helped. (I had went there for a computerized mileage tracker) As I was going over the items I wanted to purchase, I was told about an app on my smart phone that can be downloaded (what...a place that will help you save money) and will track me via gps. In going via the phone app, all I needed was to purchase a stand to hold my phone, along with my other wanted items. They have great prices, there is no up sale, and they are very well stocked. I got everything I went for... As I was leaving, they not only welcomed me to the neighborhood, they welcomed me to the store. :) At the end of the day, my first visit to ZenCog bike shop was nothing short of spectacular, and I will be returning. I came here because I was looking for a quick cheap fix. I was running a campy splined freewheel on my single speed and ended up bending the rim in a minor mishap. I bought a cheap rear wheel at REI and totally forgot about the freewheel. Realizing that anything campy is not cheap I figured I can easily score a cheap shimano cog rather than buying another wheel that was campy splined. My go to was ZenCog. The guy even offered me a free cogs he had just dumped in the trash that day. I told him I was more interested in giving him some business and that I would pay for the cog in the trash. He came back with a new cog in package and I was more than happy to give him the $20 for it. It was exactly what I wanted. Great service here. Class Act too. read more

So this lil neighborhood joint was recommended to me by a fellow Yelper ( of the expert variety). I needed my bike tuned and filled with air SO LAST MINUTE. I'm talkin the Friday night before the Riverside Ride. They were super slammed but still so welcoming and helpful. I dropped it off early afternoon and they said they'd have it ready in about an hour. Well when I showed up 30 minutes before they were about to close they still hadn't gotten to it (did I mention they were slammed?!) they were true to their word though, they stopped what they were working on and got to my bike and took great care of me and were so incredibly nice. I definitely recommend these guys and will be coming back to them with all my bike needs. OH! I forgot to mention how I came in with some concerns about possibly needing different handle bars and what not and their first words were "well before you go spending a bunch of money on stuff, let's see what we can do to adjust things first and save you some." Nick was super friendly and was able to quickly find a bike to suit the needs of my girlfriend and I. He was very professional and helpful throughout the entire process. We purchased a single speed bike for my girlfriend with a helmet and phone holders for my bike and the new bike. Matt has done several tours himself so trust and believe they will look out for you, whether it's a loaner while they work on your bike or random questions about the area.
