We left a $3000 deposit on a Honda Pilot and changed our mind 2 days later and they refused to return our deposit. They never told us the deposit was non-refundable, never signed a contract or took possession of the vehicle. The vehicle wasn't even on site, scheduled to be delivered later that week. The salesman said he was just the messenger and the Manager refused to speak to me. We actually drive a CRV and love it, but this will be my last Honda. I cant believe that Honda would treat a customer like that. They basically stole $3000 from us. read more

I would like to bring to your attention my experience with Open Road Honda Edison NJ. On June 26th, 2021 unfortunately, I was involved in an accident in Brooklyn, NY that was no fault of mine. I was rear ended at a Red light that caused significant damage to the rear end of the vehicle.  I decided to rather than allow the Brooklyn local body shop in NYC to service the vehicle; I arranged for it to be transported back to NJ, to Open Road Honda Edison. This was done with the expectation that I would most likely get stellar service and vehicle repair would be done efficiently and expeditiously. The vehicle arrived at Open Road Honda Edison on June 29th, 2021 and Geico was given an estimated time of repair between 23-28 days.  As of today, August 16th the vehicle is still being serviced. In the interim, while the car is being serviced, my insurance company Geico placed me in a car rental and paid for it up to 33 days (expired July 31st).  I've contacted and spoken to Service Dept Manager Paul Lopes several times over the course of several weeks inquiring on the status of the vehicle. Aug 4 - 6th Paul advised they were waiting for a hinge to arrive and he could not provide an etr. Please note, during this time I have continued to pay both July, Aug car notes with insurance.  As a courtesy, I asked if a loaner could be provided since the car is still being serviced by Open Road and the date for ETR has gone and passed.  Paul advised he would look into it and also reiterated to me that if I had taken the car to another body shop my car wouldn't be ready either.  Paul has repeatedly given me the run around as to when the vehicle would be available. On 8/6 I was informed a hinge arrived and he would send it to painting and would have the vehicle ready the week of 8/9. I then followed up again on 8/12 and Paul advised they are now waiting for glass and he expects it to be completed Friday 8/13; I then followed up 8/16 and the vehicle is still NOT completed for repairs.  I then asked for a loaner vehicle again As a NJ resident, it is imperative I have a vehicle to get around.  I have kept my fiduciary obligation and have paid my car notes for 2 months straight however I am not even being offered a loaner vehicle while the repairs are being done and I think that is unfair. In addition, when I do pick up the vehicle upon repair completion, I have to pay directly to OpenRoad Honda $500 deductible. I have been more than fair and understanding to the delays but I am at my wits ends.   We are nearing another car payment soon and I am not confident the car will be repaired. It would be greatly appreciated if someone can look into the repair of my vehicle and I will be provided a loaner vehicle interim. read more

brought my 2016 honda civic to Open Road in Edison in March to get an oil change and after inspecting my car they found a crack in the engine, it was covered under warranty. I mentioned that my AC hasn't been working and was told it wasn't covered under warranty and it would be an estimate of $300 just to have it checked and if i didn't need it right away i should hold off on it. it's now the end of june, a week past my warranty expiration and i scheduled a diagnostic check for the AC, come to find out that the person helping me said it's a week past my warranty and it would of been covered. id rather trade in my car for a diffident make/model than to pay for my AC to get fixed. My wife and I went to Open Road Honda to buy a new car for my wife this past Thursday. One lady without smiling came and asked if we had an appt. I told her we are there to see various vehicles so my wife can make up her mind. I wanted to see the 2022 Civic and asked her(and the manager) if they have any in their inventory for us to see. They wanted me to give my name and number first even to check if they have any! Actually they had nothing there except some useless odyssey and pilot and some 2021 civic sports! Yet, they didn't know what they had and wanted my number so they can scam me million times a day! I think these people are the worst. How they can not know what they have in their lot or not, esp when they had fewer than 10 new cars on their lot beats me! I bought my Honda Accord here in 2014 and always come here to get my oil changes and service inspections. Customer service is decent enough; not really notable, but I've never had a particularly bad experience in all the years I've been coming here. The oil change coupon they send is not what it seems; I somehow still wound up paying close to the $40some that I usual pay. I recently came for an oil change around 6:30PM on a Tuesday and was told it was going to be a two hour wait. I came back the next day around the same time and the wait was only half an hour. So Wednesday nights might be better? I went in while shopping for a Pre-Owned vehicle. Found a reasonable priced car, called and then took a test drive. When it came to negotiations the salesman J* casually told that all their cars have the "appearance package" that cost about $700 extra! So the price actually went-up from what it was shown on the website. That's cheap marketing tactic. But that's not the end of it. He also added a 100 bucks for cleaning the car before selling it - and gleefully offered to give away the vehicle dirty if we didn't want to pay for cleaning! Now, that's a first! We test drove a CRV-EX recently. The saleswoman came back with some numbers, which surprised me. An additional $895 appearance package (cheap door guards, wheel locks, windshield treatment, and 2 separate etch fees- $199 + 299. Who on this planet needs a windshield treatment? But.. the sales lady said "We lowered the price of the car, so it's like your not even paying for it." I don't know what planet she is from, but when I see $1400 added to an invoice, you are paying for it. Very bad way to do business, especially when money is tight during covid. I hated it so within 2 months I went to another dealer and got a beautiful GMC Acadia, wow what a difference. I got my new truck January 10, 2019, went to ORH on the 11th to cancel all warranties, GAP, etc. Today is April 18th, more then 3 months later --- and still waiting to get my refunds. With the run arounds of Nick in financing and now Rupal in accounting telling me yesterday that I can come today for it, only to get an email early this morning saying - she'll let me know when I can come for the checks - 'maybe' by tomorrow. He brought over his manager and we agreed to a price that the manager wrote down and underlined for a 2019 car in a color my wife wasn't completely happy with. I went home and convinced my wife that the color was ok. I came back, gave my credit card and was ready to start signing. I went over the 2019 car, price, and specs with the salesperson 3 times. The same manager came back and said the car was now a) $600 more b) not in the color I convinced my wife to agree to and c) it was a 2018, not a 2019. I have avoided this dealership for many years after previous terrible experiences. I thought I would try them again. NEVER AGAIN. I went to OPEN ROAD HONDA IN EDISON for an oil change on October 29, 2021. I was called and told that the drain plug was stuck and the oil change could not be performed without a diagnostic test for $155.00. I was then called and told that the drain plug couldn't be removed because I needed a new oil pan too. They quoted $884.00 for a new oil pan and plug which could not be done because the parts needed to be ordered. I came to pick up the car and then was charged 193.00 for the diagnostic test and no oil change was done, now there were suddenly taxes, service fees etc... DO NOT GO HERE!! FIND A REPUTABLE MECHANIC SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!! read more

The kindness of some of the people I've dealt with here is the only reason why this isn't 1 star. I leased my Honda in the summer of 2013. Three years later, I've had the air conditioning break five times -- it's basically never worked. When I complain that this is a reoccurring problem that's never fixed, I've never talked to anyone who is remotely sympathetic. Every time I have to drop off and pick up my car I need to get a babysitter. I tell them this and ask for a pickup or drop off of my car -- I expect some kind of going above and beyond considering how many times I've been inconvenienced over the years. They refuse and the last time I dropped my car off they asked me to pay for the repair because it was out of warranty. They backed down when they saw the fire in my eyes and repaired it for free again. When my lease is up this fall I'm done with Honda, which we leased because it's supposedly so reliable. read more

I visited this dealership after almost 17 years after a bad experience at that time. I wanted to try them again given how much the world has changed in the past 17 years. I was shocked to find that not much has changed in terms of their culture and attitude. The sales person Erik was nice and friendly but his manager Anthony was a piece of work. Kept just lecturing and wasted 4 hours of my time. Called Princeton Honda and paid $2200 less than what Open Road Honda offered. Cannot believe the level of incompetence and lack of customer care. I bought my first car here years ago, which is why I chose to come back when it was time for a new vehicle. Big mistake. Bought car Dec 2, 2017. At the time, my husband pressured me to get the extended warranty. After sitting on the idea for 24 hours, I changed my mind and called the dealership to cancel. No problem. Just come down in person, and they will draw up a new contract. When I looked the contact over before going back the next day, I saw that the dealer snuck on $270.00+tax in after-market fees for crap already on the car. Some special window coating and the security etching on the windows. Unfortunately, I did not see these charges at the time I originally signed. (Read you contracts carefully!!!) I complained when I went in to have a new contact drawn up, but was told that I had gotten a very good deal on the car so they would not refund the amount I overpaid. I did get an "I am so sorry you're not happy, here are some coupons for a discounted (not free) oil change and tire rotation." Big deal, but what could I do. My fault for not asking questions before I signed... At the time I bought the car they could not find the spare key. Was told by my sales ep that if they could not find it by Wednesday they would cut me a new one. I waited until Friday... When I called, I was told they could not find the key and I would have to come down in person to get a copy made. Process should only take about a half hour. So I head down since I had a time before work. When I arrived, I was told that the process would take AT LEAST an hour. I did not have that kind of time so I schedule a time to come back when I had half a day free to wait around, and was sent home with another apology. No coupons this time... So back to the contact. The finance rep messed up the redo, and I had to sign a third contact! Without the paperwork correctly submitted they could not send me my vehicle registration. Mind you it is now the end of December, and I have only a week left on the temporary registration. It is now January 12th, and I am still waiting. Called today, and the receptionist said, "It's here. Another review states to beware if you are a young woman because they take advantage of your knowledge concerning automobiles; she is absolutely right about this. However, watch out for their finance guy when you sign your contract. Once I got to the finance guy he chose to ignore the signed negotiated deal and over charged me the first months payment. As a result of his negligence my first months payment was duplicated. Who can be considered a finance manager that over charges their customers. Unacceptable and unprofessional service. I went on Friday to buy a car from Open Road Honda. Had the price or negotiated and everything figured out to the fair price decided. Then they started the paperwork for the transaction as well as the financing. Based on the numbers negotiated, I was given my monthly installment amount by them based on the Math they did. They added to it some 'dealer upgrades' for what I don't need for an additional $1200+, which I hadnt budgeted for. We added to it some extras in terms of services. While my credit card was being charged, I smelt a rat. I refused to sign the cc slip and asked them to show me how they reached my monthly instalment figure. I pulled up some online calculators as I'm not a big numbers person. It showed me I was paying $27 extra for the same amount being financed. Nick looked at the computer to find the issue (if any) and then saw that I was indeed paying higher as the amount being financed was showing $7,000 higher than my negotiated price. He fixed it however if I didn't pull out last minute I was going to pay $1620 higher for the same car over 5 years which is a lot of money. I truely suggest folks your Truecar (https://www.truecar.com/) or any such online calculator to ensure you have the right amount for the car you purchase if you use Open Road. I fel I was almost swindled for $1620 which is a big amount and that doesn't leave a good taste for the entire buying process. I'm not sure if it was a genuine error or if this was a way to make up some of the car price negotiated. I would expect better transparency and credibility from such a dealer. read more

I have to say, the manager, Akram, is hands down the most honest man I've ever dealt with. Along with his colleague Mario, they were able to pull a miracle to save my fiance from driving a car she didn't like for 3 years in to a car she now loves! The sales man was not bad, but The manager did not like the price I offered, and after few counter offer/s finally we agreed on a price. I thought that if you go to a Honda dealer, they all used the same oil from Honda and this appeared to be a tactic to get out of honoring the coupon. This is our second lease from open road Honda in Edison. Last week we traded in our car for an SUV. The manager took care of us and everything went smoothly. After picking up the car, we realized that the silver outlining the window still had parts of the blue plastic stuck to it and it was very scratched up. The blue plastic wouldn't come off so someone ended up using a tool to try and remove it (this is before they gave us the car). Disappointed that they would not take a look at the overall car before leasing it out to a customer. I understand that it came from another dealership but there has to be an inspection of the cars that come in. I came in the next day and they ordered the part, took a week to come in. Was told it would only take an hour to replace, yet when I came in this morning he said it could take any where from an hour to maybe all day. They were great about getting it fixed and provided me with a loaner car. A good tip is to look over your car before taking it off the lot, it will save you a lot of time. read more

My Lease had ended and Open Road Honda sent me a letter which stated that I can lease a new car valued at $27K with $3000 down and my payments would be around $355 a month (insane) ....I've also received phone calls from Open Road, the salesman called and said if I could make an appointment, or come down on the same day that he called I could get a $1200 discount. If I did neither, I'd get no discount, really? I drove down to Infiniti instead. I leased a car with a sticker price of $42K, only $1700 down, my payment was only a few dollars more than the Honda's on a $27K Car with much more car for my money ......Need I say more?? read more

Update! I've been getting my car serviced regularly here and my experience has varied widely depending on what service writer I had. The service writer I had for most of my services was great and I feel like I was treated fairly and honestly. The last guy tried to convince me that a water pump (~$800) is a regular wear item that should be replaced when you change your coolant (~$100) at around 100k miles. That is simply not true and it's insulting that he would try to pull something like that. Someone unknowledgeable could easily be taken for a ride and end up spending a lot of money on unnecessary service. Because of my poor experience I don't believe the dealer is trustworthy and won't be getting my car serviced there any more. Not only that, but if I do buy another Honda it won't be from this dealer. And if any of you are buying a new car, I recommend pricing out what you want on TrueCar. The dealer may not want to honor the price but you can walk out the door and go to another dealer if this one doesn't call you a few days later. read more

We just got our second car from this dealership during the Spring sale. I must admit I was very impressed by the online portal and good dealer discounts from the get go. This is the only dealership I know that has such online capability. It certainly made our decision making process quite easy and our negotiations faster. With our first baby on the way, we were not really sure of which car we wanted to purchase. We visited the dealership 3 times, each time test driving a different vehicle. We worked with VJ who was very accommodating of our needs. I would certainly recommend this dealership, but be prepared to spend some time here. They tend to stay busy most of time. This was the first time I was back at the dealer ever since I bought my car so I got to walk around a bit inside and check out their Express Service. Honestly, I didn't have high hopes walking in but I was blown away with how friendly, efficient and professional their staff was. Outside, in the Express Service area, the techs were friendly and explained the directions very well. Once I walked inside, the receptionist told me exactly where to go and who to see. My wait time was only an hour and fifteen minutes and they were right on the dot. They had a decent waiting area with chairs, T.V. and coffee. When your service is done, they give you a call and you proceed with your checkout procedure. I'm glad I came to dealer to take care of my car. I wouldn't mind stopping by again! read more
