The car was repaired. There were a few adjustments that needed to be done. He took care of everything and did not charge me an additional dime. Fast forward to December 2022. We were planning to give the Hyundai to our son, going away to school. We took the car to a different place because of a coupon and we're given a laundry list of needed repairs and a hefty estimate to go with it. I called Tom and told him what needed to be done. He gave me a quote on the phone which was a half of what the other mechanic was going to charge me. Everything was done for the price he had quoted and not a penny more and my son has a car that I do not worry about. Additionally, the 98 Toyota's "check engine" light came on. Two different mechanics told me that it's likely the catalytic converter and that I would be spending a fortune. Tom checked out the car and it turned out that the gas cap needed to be replaced. He explains everything well. Gives options of what needs to be done and I have not had any reason not to trust what he says. After a few other places, I won't even consider taking my cars to anyone but Tom at AAMCO.

The receptionist, Shelly, quoted me $249.99, stating that with tax it would come out to exactly $299.99. However, when I went to check out and looked closely at my receipt, the actual total listed was $287.00. When I went to swipe my card, the machine charged me $299.32. ​When you dig into the numbers, it becomes clear what they are doing. The true total with tax is $287.00 (which is what you pay if you use cash). They are automatically quoting the credit card price over the phone by adding a roughly 4% processing fee into the quote without disclosing that it's a credit card surcharge, or that a lower cash price exists. To confirm this pattern, I had a friend call after I left to ask for the exact same service, and Shelly gave them the exact same misleading rundown.​While charging a credit card processing fee is legal in many places if properly disclosed, quoting an inflated price over the phone as the "standard tax-included price" and hiding the real total until checkout is dishonest. This business is engaging in shady, unfair pricing practices. If you choose to go here, demand to know the true cash price upfront and bring cash, or better yet, find an honest mechanic who won't play games with your receipt.

I had a problem with the front end of my 2000 Saab 9-3 and haven't been able to figure it out, so I thought this shop might be worth a try. Being a part of the Saab scene for decades, I expected a friendly voice. The person I spoke to on the phone was incredibly difficult and unfriendly. When I asked if he specialized in Saabs he replied in a manner that sounded like he doesn't even like them and was not interested in working on them, saying there aren't many left, and my car is "old". When I told him how many miles were on it, he said, "we'll have fun with that", which is just what you want to hear from a mechanic. All Saabs are old because they haven't been made since 2011, but if well maintained they'll run and drive for a long, long time. My car has 156k miles on it, which is quite low in Saab terms, especially considering the age of the car, and it has been very well maintained. Some of the cars he has on site are older than mine. Apparently this guy does not want new business. It's really bizarre. Avoid this shop.

I took it to Sal and he said let me try something first before we look at a new or rebuilt transmission. That was about 4/5 years ago. He has kept my 2004 Truck running. My husband also decided to stop taking his Mercedes to the dealer and is very happy with Sal's maintenance on his Benz. We also bought a used truck for our daughter and took it to Sal to get it up to snuff. He is and will always be our family mechanic as long as he is in business.
