Bought a preowned 2017 Golf here in 2020. From day one I flagged water ingress near the A-pillar and was repeatedly told not to worry about it, including during a sunroof service. Years later, warning lights led to a diagnosis revealing corroded wiring connectors and evidence of an aftermarket device that had been installed and removed by the previous owne. something that should have been caught in the CPO inspection before the sale. When I raised my concerns, service rep Jon Fishman told me it was my job to "be an advocate for myself." Thanks for that. The fix is ~$1,200 for problems that stem from their failed pre-purchase inspection and years of dismissing my concerns. None of my verbal complaints were documented, so now it's my word against theirs. When I asked for full service records and the original CPO inspection checklist, I received incomplete documentation. Lost a customer for life. Escalating to VWCares. Avoid if you're buying preowned. they will not have your back. read more

I don't recommend you waste your time in VW Openroad Burnaby. Very bad service. All issues your car has will be settled with "This is how VW cars work". Even if it is a wind noise coming from the driver's windows that is like having the window open. They sold me the car and they dismantled the driver's door just a few days before they sold it to me. They did not assemble the door back correctly and now I have an issue with the car. read more

Bought a "certified preowned" vehicle from here. It was a 2015 (and I bought it in 2019) The experience was pretty good until after about a week of driving the car I checked the oil and there was no oil in it!! I brought I in and they filled it but they didn't offer to asses for related damage or anything which is pretty sad since I had driven it to pemberton and back. Also I found out that there was no rear passenger window switch... just a hole in the armrest and when I asked them about it they pretty much just said that it was too late for me to bring that up. Its a buyer beware type situation with car sales... the free coffee and apples, smiles and compliments make it easy to forget this but I've learned a few times now that you cant rely on them to make sure your car is ship-shape. read more

It has been 3 months plus since I collected my ride, but Raj is still checking in with us every month to see how are things with the car and in general. Brought my car in for first service. It's been a year but less than 6000 km. Was shocked at sticker price of $360! They couldn't even provide me a list of included services. Needless to say, I didn't leave my vehicle with them. When I looked online later, I discovered first service only included brake check and tire rotation aside from the standard oil and filter change. It seems to me that Volkswagen open road is very loosey-goosey when it comes to safety. Cpo 2015 Tiguan that had illegal tint where I was pulled over and given a ticket for, Volkswagen in OpenRoad fixed the problem that was never supposed to be there, fast forward I was in an accident where none of my airbags deployed. Volkswagen OpenRoad does not take any responsibility, Volkswagen OpenRoad tells me they do not make the car. Volkswagen Canada tells me there wasn't enough impact. read more

I recently brought my 2016 Golf Sportwagen in since the sunroof was leaking in multiple places, including in the cargo area. It was a mess and the headliner and inside sunroof cover was badly water stained and pretty disgusting. This is a known issue and some owners had great success in getting it repaired while others didn't (at other dealers around North America). What I received back was like a brand new car: the sunroof was removed and resealed, everything dried out, new rear speakers that were water damaged, new headliner, new inside sunroof cover, a washed car and so far no leaks (and it's pouring out)! Don Cibelli was my Service Advisor and he was excellent in getting me in, providing a brand new loaner and communicating the repair status. Kudos to the service people also since it was done sooner than expected. The service notes were extensive and detailed which was also great to know. The service area has a nice seating space to wait for your car if needed, and all around it is a nice looking dealer. I will definitely buy my next VW from Open Road! read more

Also he did not tell me extend warranty $3775 one what a joke.. so i pay $217.59 b/w he ripped of me . So basically 2021 jetta comforline $170 b/w mine is $217.59 b/w. This is by far my best car buying experience. Vihn is such a great help. I was in a desperate situation. My car had broken down and I needed a car that day. He was calm and relaxed, went over all my options, and helped get me the best deal. I ended up leasing a car and it has been such a treat. Now I come in to get my car washed every week and say hi and he always has candy for my daughter. If your a women, especially, I recommend it here, no hidden agendas. The women in the office was so great. when I was signing the papers she helped me understand everything I was signing and she actually teaches car buying for women in the lower mainland. I bought a car recently from Manager Andy Tan with the help from used car manager Yang Yang. I initially went to test the car at Cowell, and had a terrible experience.. Andy was referred to from a friend, and first thing he did was give me the keys to a car and told me to come back after a few hours. Throughout the process Andy had been a stand-up guy, No BS. I normally don't buy cars from dealerships as most salemen lie to get a deal, and I have seen a fair share myself with negative experiences. Never seen such reasonable and honesty from a car salesman. Andy stuck to his word all the time, and was up front with his expectations and did not go back on his word. If I were to buy a VW again, I would gladly go back to Andy or Yang. As for their service department .. they messed up my booking.. and the tech would not fix my issues.. claiming it to be factory specs and threatened me to be charged out of warranty. Luckily that was resolved.. but this would be the only reason they didn't get five stars read more

Car wouldn't start. I called the dealership (close to where I work) and made sure they had the battery I needed. Had a colleague jump start my car so I could drive it over to purchase the new battery. Found that the car tool kit didn't have the spanner I needed to remove the battery. I asked if I could borrow the tool and the service guy said they don't lend out tools and I would need to pay $70 for someone to replace the battery (would take me 5min if I had the tool). As they would not lend me a tool to remove my old battery in order to purchase and replace with a new one I was stuck. I didn't feel it right to pay $70 dollars to loosen three bolts, swap battery, and tighten three bolts so I waited for someone to help me jump start my car in their parking lot so I could go elsewhere. Eventually one of the sales guys lent me the tool so I could swap the battery. Maybe I am wrong but even if they said ill get someone to quickly help you as it will only take a few minutes and charge $20, I would have been happy, but they were willing to leave me stranded unless I paid $70 for them to loosen three bolts, swap and battery, and tighten three bolts. Sandy was able to get them to lend me the tools and afterwards the service guys had the cheek to say "it's a pleasure" as I will leaving -- pleasure for what, your friendly/helpful service haha??? I see in all the positive notes below its base don the sales department, the service department it terrible based on not only my experience. The Sales guy (Sandy Morton) is awesome, great experience, for service save yourself the suffering and go somewhere else. read more

Worst VW service experience EVER! I have had my bug for 7 years, always going to a VW dealership to service my bug, never had such bad experience. it started well with Don to do a regular maintenance and also told them that my passenger headlights seems on and off from time to time, so want them to check it out. When picking up my car, they told me the bracket for the headlight is not holding its right, they have TIGHTEN it and if it still an issue, they need to replace it. Fine. I am okay with it. Immediately next evening, as I turned on my headlights, I noticed that the high beams are always on regardless if I turn on or off the switch. Called VW service back the next day, and dropped off my car for them to check. Got a call this morning, telling me that they need to 1) change the bracket and 2) continue with diagnosis. First of all, I have hard time understanding a passenger side light bracket is affecting both high beams to be on. maybe it is just me not understanding, fine. Secondly, they are telling me that replacing the bracket might not fix the issue as there might be electrical failure. There was never any issues with my bug before they touched the light, and if there is electrical failure, to me, it might be caused by them tightening the bracket. They would not admit that was possible. Then the service admin starts to twist the story about "oh, all we did is pull out the light and put it back in", WHAT HAPPENED TO TIGHTEN BRACKET PART?? Thirdly, he started to tell me that this was the first time they worked on my bug, they had never seen my car before. This could be from previous repair. I HAVE ALWAYS serviced my bug in a VW dealership in Greater Vancouver. To me, it is VW I am recognizing. They should not be pushing responsibilities to another dealership. Additionally, this OpenRoad VW is a brand new dealership just opened last year. There are millions of cars they have never seen or worked on cuz they didn't exist until last year. SO they cannot use that excuse to push away responsibilities. SO REMEMBER! IF OTHER DEALERSHIPs HAVE TOUCHED YOUR CAR, DO NOT GO TO THIS DEALERSHIP! Then, he started by saying they advised me to replace the bracket when they worked on my car. Yes, they did so when I picked up the car AFTER THEY TIGHTENED THE BRACKET. I was never told to make a decision of tightening it or replace it. Then he said they did me a favor. I appreciate it, I did. However, if this favor caused problems, then they should be owning up to it. I am not an engineer, or technician. Logically I have hard time understanding the technical issues here. All I am asking is them owning up to their potential mistakes. Stop BS their customers and stop pushing away potential responsibilities. The conversation would have been much easier if they agree that they might have caused something. End of the day, $180+tax replacing a bracket is not an issue for me, the problem here is I do not feel good at being bullshit to, lied to, played around, and asked me to pay for other people's mistake. I bought my first car from Sandy Morton at Open Road VW Burnaby in July 2021 and it was one of the smoothest and loveliest experiences I've had. I was a little scared to go car shopping since I've heard of some not-so-great experiences. I knew exactly what car I wanted: the 2021 Golf Highline in white. They didn't have this car in stock since all dealerships in the lower mainland were running low of this particular model at the time, but Sandy found me the car, was still able to get me an amazing deal, with amazing customer service, and a smile on both our faces. I went back to the dealership 3 days later to pick up my car and to finalize paperwork and insurance. Smoothest first time car buying experience ever. I've had my car for 9 months now and I'm still as in love as I was the first day I drove it. I can confidently say I'm sticking with VW cars and Sandy. Thank you OpenRoad VW and Sandy!! read more

I was contacted by "Brand Specialist" John Lee, who made an offer to purchase my privately posted Audi which I had posted on Craigslist. He told me they were interested in making me an offer on my car and stated the number point blank and said they could cut me a check within 3 days. I was skeptical due to assuming I would get the dealership runaround. Against my better judgement, I agreed to come down to discuss since he literally gave me a dollar figure. As I feared, instead of living up to the offer and showing any sort of integrity, John went to "talk to his manager" and instead tried to lowball me, not due to any deficiency found with my car, but instead proceeded to go on about comparables on Craigslist and the cost of certification, blah blah. All things they already new, or should have known, and instead they treated me like I came to them with a trade in. They found nothing wrong with my car, and nothing to contribute to re-negotiating his original offer. His offer was already 3k lower than my asking price, and I stated I was not willing to negotiate on an offer they already made me . He continued to try to squeeze the price lower, and even brought his manager out to explain the reasoning to me (more typical dealership runaround, which I explained I was not interested in hearing). I told them thanks for wasting my time and stormed out, obviously very upset at having my time wasted and being treated like I came to them looking for an offer. John followed me out of the building, blaming his manager, and saying he didn't want to have an upset customer (I wasn't a customer) and proceeded to tell me how all his reviews online were positive. Well John, if you want my positive review you can show some professionalism, some integrity and some common decency. You wasted my time with a bullsh#t offer you had no intention of living up to, tried to make excuses for why you couldn't live up to it, blamed your manager and at the end of the day, were more concerned about your reputation after seeing how upset I was. You can reply with every excuse you want, at the end of the day you had all the information you needed before contacting me and wasting a beautiful Sunday acting like a sleazy used car salesman. I've owned 2 VW's in the past, dealt with Open Road before, but you have cost them a customer. You will never get my business now or in the future. read more

Just had my car serviced here and had a great experience. Everything from the initial phone call, to the customer intake and the service performed were top notch. Really appreciate the genuinely friendly staff, cleanliness of the dealership and even the free coffee. Noticed how well the staff seemed to get along with each other, which always translates into a better customer experience. The only thing I didn't like was that the A/C was way too cold. Will need to bring a light jacket next time, but not a big deal, as the waiting area was nice and the free wifi was welcome. Will for sure be back. read more

New dealership. I gave these guys a chance and I will NOT be back. I will be using a different VW dealership for my service. I have owned VW's for over 20 years and this was the worst experience and to top it all off they didn't even reset the service indicator. I felt the advisers really didn't know much about cars and basically were just car sales people talking circles about a particular question I had. The did not seem concerned about my unhappy experience but more concerned about their summer party with beach volleyball in the parking lot. This is an update to a review about the same service visit where they changed the wrong part & it didn't need changing.......rear shocks instead of trunk shocks. They have replaced the trunk shocks at no cost but I'm still out the difference in cost of the rear vs trunk shocks and they refuse to pay. Additionally I have since discovered they removed the engine cover on the underside of the car to work on the transmission but didn't put it back in place. The bolts are still hanging in the holes. One side is still on (comes in 3 pieces) as they wouldn't have needed to remove it to do the transmission work. Now they say it was like that when it came in! On top of that the car engine was running fine when it went in and progressively got worse in the days after picking it up. We found loose hoses which my husband fixed and other mechanical issues that he also had to fix to get the car back to good working order. And if you try to have your complaint addressed at a higher level everything goes back to the Service Manager. There is an e-mail link to Christian (CEO) to contact but the complaint goes back to the dealership so no use wasting your time there. Don't take your car to VW Open Road for service as it will cost you nothing but time and more money. They talked to me rudely right from the service desk and I think its because I'm a woman and girls you know how you get treated at some dealerships.....well this is one of them! It's like they think women don't know anything! Well I may not be an expert on cars, that's why I took it somewhere for help; but I made the mistake of thinking I could trust them. Big mistake. I'm sure the sales people are friendly enough but just wait till you need to get your car fixed. Beware of VW!!! read more

After a terrible experience at Regency VW on Thursday (please see my review of them) where I negotiated a 5% discount, had a $3,000 deposit on a Golf GTI, arranged a date to complete the paper work and pick the car up, but come Saturday they said the car wouldn't be ready until later on Monday... I decided to shop at OpenRoad VW instead who happened to have the same car with the same spec. (except the number plate was not drilling on the front bumper), and were willing to match the same price, but throw in 2 years of free servicing and a set of rubber mats too, and deliver the car immediately with no strange delays for VW's 0% offer credit check, or detailing the car. OpenRoad VW would have let me drive away the car on the same Saturday evening, but I didn't have time to do all the paper work so I left a $500 deposit and returned the next day around Sunday lunch time to pick up the car. But first on Sunday I went back to Regency VW to get my deposit refunded. They basically delayed me for an hour even offering a further 5% discount on the car to try and make me change my mind. However, these guys had messed me around so much that I couldn't bring myself to accept their offer, knowing that I would have to deal with them for years later for servicing etc. I just didn't trust them any more. Plus they refused to refund my deposit until Monday which felt like a kind of retribution after I rejected their offer. Back at OpenRoad VW they processed me speedily and very professionally. I told them that I had rejected an offer of a further 5% from Regency VW and they basically said great but unfortunately they cannot go any lower without making a loss etc; the standard car dealer speak. So my loyalty to OpenRoad VW (or dislike of Regency VW) was not re-paid (even 50% or even 25%) leaving me wondering whether I did the right thing with OpenRoad VW. Should I have shopped further? My OpenRoad VW sales person was Yang who is very friendly and professional but at the time of the explanation of the car he couldn't explain what the button called 'Menu' did or the relationship between the paddle shifters and the gear stick. However, he could explain over 90% of the gizmos. And on Monday he personally delivered the rubber mats to my home and found out that the paddles work independently of the gear shifter... so he learned a bit more. Another incentive from OpenRoad VW is that it's possible to register for free use of a roof cargo box for e.g. an excursion. However, there is no mention on the OpenRoad VW website about this, and no mention in all the paper-work received at buying time. So I only have Yang's word to go on. I find it strange that OpenRoad make such offers but then do not back them up with terms and small-print etc. I asked Yang about this and he said he would bring details with him. However, he just brought a copy of the dealer options and charges and highlighted the line "2 Yrs/ 30K Scheduled Maintenance Pkg (Cars)"... which doesn't really tell me anything about the roof cargo box part?! All in all, I feel like I unnecessarily spent an extra 3.5% (5% minus the 2 years free servicing and rubber mats) by shopping at OpenRoad VW just to escape the total lack of customer service at Regency VW. We will see over the next years whether the customer service at OpenRoad VW is worth the extra ~ $1,500. If only OpenRoad VW had met me even half way on the price, it would have been an easy 5 star review. But as of today I only feel able to give a 3 star review because I have the most expensive rubber mats anybody can imagine. I will update this review in the years to come. Maybe it turns out being worth it buying from OpenRoad VW? In which case I will upgrade the stars. Admittedly I would have been happier with OpenRoad VW if I didn't accidentally find out that a 10% discount on a top of the line Golf is possible... Why can't consumers get a competitive price AND good customer service?! UPDATE: At home, going through the car paper-work, we saw some expensive & UNEXPECTED options totaling 6% of the car value. During the hour of up-selling from Christina and Jody (and this was after an hour of getting frazzled by Regency VW) we went for extra warranty which was a 6.9% option. However, the extra warranty and the unexpected options totaled 13% of the value of the car. Both my wife and I remember C & J talking about (a) total loss and (b) wheel and tire coverage BUT we both assumed this was part of the warranty and neither of us heard associated extra prices. What made things fuzzy is C & J convinced us to switch from monthly (used earlier with Yang) to bi-weekly payments, so the payment hike wasn't as obvious. We decided to cancel both the unexpected options and the extra warranty. Jody said this is possible but the bigger payments MUST stay the same & the term of the financing would get a year shorter! C said it would take 90 days by VW for processing. Downgrading from 3 stars to 2 stars. read more
