The playlist for the program "Feeling Groovy" did not meet my expectations: Advertised as "the greatest hits of the 69s and 70s," hits by Simon & Garfunkel, the Beatles or John Denver were not included. "If I had a hammer" was included but the song, written in 1949 by the great Lee Hays and Pete Singer, was a musical retread in the 70s. While I recognized just three songs (including "It Ain't me, Babe," beautifully interpreted), my wife knew them all, and was completely satisfied by the program, as were others in the lobby at the half-time with whom I spoke. Rebekah was perfect with her singing and comedy. She is an outstanding "star". Brad, well, what can you say about Brad, that has not already been said in the past? He comes forth with excellent singing and comedy. Kristine is a "jewel". Her singing and comedy shows her talents are unlimited. Luke (may the force be with you) has already proven himself as a star on television. But here, he shows how he can act and sing, he is a "11" on a "10 scale". Then comes Cay. Cay is certainly a great vocalist and comedy actress. COming and watching their new shows makes myself and my wife feel like we are in the movie "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and we have found the long soughter after jem, the untimate find, a true treasure. ANyone visiting here for the first time, finds that they will be coming back voer and over again. The band Each member of the band brings a "unique" colelction of the instruments they play, and they do play them in an outstanding mannerism. Marc is a genius with the guitar, making it play so smoothly and lovingly, followed by Long Le (the guy that makes women "swoon".) Next you have Austin, who plays a wide variety of instruments, making them almost "sing". Arthur of course makes the drums sound like you are in a romantic movie. He plays them as though there were magical. Of course, let us not forget the wonbderful ladies that take care of sitting you, and those ladies that makes the drinks and snacks ready for us. Ending this managiere of excellent people is of course Pat and his assistant Michael. Nothing would work without Pat running everything in the background. Together, all of these people make "The Music Box Theater" come to life for the guest, making us feel as if we were part of their family. It was 90's night. Music was so good. Large cast (singers and band) ...so the value is there. Reserve tickets slightly above 50 bucks each in this cozy venue. I sat right next to the band, so I could see what the guitar players were doing and watching the silent communication they have with head nods and finger-pointing between the singers and individual band members. Wine and beer water coffee etc. served with an introduction that says "the more you drink the better we sound". I had water... and they sound great so... Songs have introductions and the cast joke with each other. Audience was singing in the band really got into the tunes. What a great way to spend a Friday night AND we drove 43 miles!. Brilliant date night if you like seeing talented people have fun doing what they love. It is that obvious. read more

Overall I had a good time. I attending on the opening for the Broadway series. We sat near the stage and it was pretty good. The artist did a great job with the songs and getting a lot in during the time frame. The tables are big enough for 4 to share, there really isn't a bad seat in the house so if you do the general admission ticket you are good. You have the option to either buy a bottle of a glass of wine for your table. Overall it was a good time and will go back for the Motown show. There is a parking garage across the street and it is $8 to park. If you get there early you can park in front of the stores adjacent to the Music Box or on the street a block or so away. read more

Wonderful cabaret of five singers performing theme shows in an intimate setting of what used to be the Radio Music Theate a few years ago. These folks gel together, and their enthusiasm will brighten your evening. You can't beat the price for live, family-friendly entertainment in Houston. I can't believe it took me so long after Radio Music Theater left to see a show by the new group, but I'm a big fan of Music Box now. If you've never been here before, you're in for a treat. It's not slick or over-produced. Just performers who love belting out tunes with a few surprises (did they really remix a version of "Some Nights" by fun.? Yes they did, and it was fabulous) and classics, depending on the show's theme. If you don't have a reserved seat (honestly, all of the seats are perfectly fine), arrive early. I've never had a problem with parking, but...do the smart thing and check their website for the best places to park (some businesses nearby allow people to use their lots). There are plenty of wine and beverage options for everyone, and light nibbles, too. Most shows are around an hour and a half to two hours with an intermission. read more

The Music Box Theater is BACK! Well, not that they ever left with their quarantunes and their wonderful virtual performances, but they are "in the box" again. By watching the audience, I could tell that I wasn't the only one thrilled to be there! There was excitement in the air. From the first call of "The Circle of Life" to the final mash-up, they were in high spirits for this 10th Anniversary celebration. As usual, it was the feeling of being with family, watching their good-natured teasing and antics. I think they were having as much fun as we were, if not more. It was quite the celebration. And the music...oh, my! A little bit of Broadway, a lot of pop, some c & w and even heavy metal...this show had it all! Luke and Rebekah masterfully brought back some Judy Garland classics followed beautifully by Kristina and "Both Sides Now." Cay did Dolly Parton proud with her version of "Jolene" while Brad skillfully evoked Freddie Mercury at one point. The musicians were amazing, as usual, and the on-stage guitar accompaniment to Cole Porter's "Night and Day" was powerful. The group ended Act One with "Staying Alive" which they clearly have. While I assume there will be some financial catching up to do (and we can help with that), spirit wise and ability wise they made it through the storm stronger than ever. Theater in it's most intimate setting - delivering both booze and broadway to your weekend with their ambitious and unforgettable performances. I attended their Sunday 2pm showing of their "Best of Broadway" production. As I walked into the building, it immediately reminded me of the theatre classes I took throughout school. With the walls covered in achievements, past performances and cast photos, you think to yourself that this will be a great experience. The smiling faces everywhere you look bring this comfy theatre to a new level. We checked in with a man who also showed us to our seat and were greeted by many other people on our way to our reserved seating. Each person who we were introduced to seemed to play a big role in this theatre creation. As we found our seats, it was not long until each ensemble member came up to say hello to us first-timers, it was very touching. The performance began with a hearty welcome with the opening number from "Little Shop of Horrors." Excellently sung by the three women of the cast, not long after the two men singers were introduced into the performance with a memorable deep voice and the other with a remarkable baritone singing voice. It was thoroughly enjoyed by my fiance and I - even with my fiance not being a fan of musicals, this took the cake, for him. Each musical number highlighted different strong points in the cast's great set of performers. As soon as the performance was over, a much deserved standing ovation occured. After the applause, the cast members came around to greet us once more and ask our opinions. This is what makes a theatre like this work, a cast that cares. Their performances were truly remarkable and unforgettable. My fiance and I will be returning for their next performances to come and are excited to do so! Thank you Music Box! TL;DR This theatre is a spot to let loose and have fun with friends and family all while enjoying the musically gifted talents of the cast performers and band members. A decent variety of drinks are available and the talent is for sure excellent here. For 1700 reviews, I wanted to dedicate it to a place that I love. Once upon a time, I got a ROTD for RADIO MUSIC THEATER, but when it popped up it showed that it had actually closed down, so the yelp gods pulled the ROTD. To say the least I was uber sad. But it's ok because I more sad that RADIO MUSIC THEATER was closed. Well to my surprise they have REOPENED up with a new but similar concept. It it still a live music/comedy show. They have short skits mixed with singing. This version has more music and less comedy. The singing talent I feel has been upgraded. I came to watch the damaged divas of the decades. The show was very entertaining. I was laughing, smiling, and enjoying the entire show. I must say they are very personal here. I purchased tickets via their website but I had to move my date because I could not attend, they did not have a problem with that, a week before that showing, they had to cancel so I rescheduled. Brad the owner called me himself to leave the voicemail. On the date I finally showed, he comped me two drink tickets for 2 glasses of wine for the hassle. It wasn't a hassle at all but loved the service! I am a big fan of Glee so the whole time I couldn't stop thinking that Brad looks like Josh Groben and Colton Berry looks like the brother from high school musical. read more

I have gone to 3 shows at The Music Box Theater! Every single show was phenomenal! The theater is quaint and has a small cast. The have a bar with selections of wine and a very small beer selection. They do have some pretty strong bottomless memosas, so drink up on those! I have seen The White Christmas Album 2 times now. It is something they do during the Christmas Holidays that combines some classic Beatles tunes with Traditional Christmas Music! While at the show, they pass out a contact information piece of paper. If you fill it out and turn it in then you will win free tickets to another show! That is how I got to my third show at this theater! The third of the three shows I saw was "Into the Woods"! They had a different layout than what "A White Christmas Album " had. It was more open and audiences sat on all four sides which was so fun! Both shows had an intermission. read more

This was my first experience seeing a performance at The Music Box Theater. I attended the second evening of their new show titled "2018 The Year In Review", which features a stellar ensemble of six talented and seasoned performers. Seated in front of the stage was a wonderful way of experiencing the performance up close and personal. This particular production offers up an array of songs and comedic interludes. The musical numbers were culled from previous shows produced during the 2018 season. My particular favorite was "Duke of Earl", which was wonderfully performed by Brad Scarborough replete with an authentic falsetto voice that is spot on. What makes the show f-u-n is the banter amongst the cast members and the strong sense of chemistry, which the ensemble possesses. John Gremillion's pastiche of character impressions is a decided plus to the evening. What's more, the band does an exceptional job of accompanying the performer's thanks to the outstanding musical direction of Glenn Sharp. Some of the comedy sketches are entertaining while others just didn't work from my perspective and seemed to slow the energy of the ensemble down. The highlights of the evening were the solos by each member of the cast. I enjoyed them all save for "Trouble In River City" from "The Music Man", which is quite dated; younger audience members weren't very responsive because the song was unfamiliar. Still, it appears The Music Box Theater caters to an older audience whom I am sure appreciated Luke Wrobel's rendition of the song popularized many years ago by Robert Preston. If you are looking for a theatrical experience that is unprecedented in the city of Houston I strongly recommend attending a show at The Music Box Theater. Now that I have I certainly will go back to see more of their work. Thumbs up! read more

Friday 1/29/16. This was my second time at TMBT with my girlfriend Sunny. My first time was a surprise (she wouldn't tell me what she was taking me to) , as sad as I was to find out it wasn't a Heavy Metal Death band, I was pleasantly surprised and entertained the whole evening. The staff is extremely friendly from the moment you walk in. Quick and easy access to snacks/drinks before you walk in. The crew greets and chats with its guests to give a real homey feel. Plenty of space to sit and feel comfortable yet involved with the show. 15 minute intermission for a wine refill was a plus. Cast, crew, and band are all very talented and maintain your attention to the end of the show. I would highly recommend TMBT show to any of my friends and family. read more
