My last meal in Paris and it was fantastic! Clamato is a seafood tapas restaurant by Septime and they serve creative seafood and vegetable dishes with a variety of fusion ingredients. The seafood is so fresh and each dish was full of delicious flavors. I loved all the dishes that we tried, with my favorites being the oysters, cockles with crispy potatoes, and sea bream tiradito with kiwi sauce! What we ordered: Cockles, Chipotle Butter, Crispy Potatoes €16 - very tasty and flavorful, the crispy potatoes add a great crunchy touch. Amande Clam from Mont Saint Michel x6 €10, Special Oyster from Isigny x6 €24, and Palourde Clam from Camargue x6 €16 - very fresh, after having both, I prefer oysters over clams. Sea Bream Tiradito with Kiwi sauce €17 - I don't think I've had kiwi sauce before, but they made it work! A standout dish. White Asparagus, Creamy Savagnin sauce, and Haddock €22 - I liked the creamy sauce, but this was my least favorite dish, probably because I don't like asparagus too much. Blufin Tuna, Turnip, & Chili Oil €21 - another interesting fusion dish, I enjoyed it! They're a Michelin bib gourmand meaning they offer good value for money. I was really looking forward to trying this place. I was so disappointed - it was such an awful experience. We ordered the €75 seafood tower/platter and it came with melting ice underneath. Soon the melting ice became water, and the clams were sinking into the water. Disgusting. I told them what was happening and they said we didn't eat it fast enough. (We ate very fast actually.) They really didn't care and just asked if we were done (ignoring the sunken clams we didn't get to eat). For €75! Don't waste your money and a precious meal in Paris at this awful place. read more

Maybe the best meal we had on a trip packed with incredible meals. Maybe also one of our very best meals of 2023. The mussels were spicy and perfect. The cuttlefish (cut into almost a linguine shape) was incredible. I could eat the tiradito every meal the rest of my life and be happy. We loved the cabbage too, and the oysters were great, even if I'm mostly bored with raw oysters. But the biggest standout of all was the cod roe tarama, which was maybe my very favorite dish all year -- an incredible hummus-like consistency with unbelievable flavor, topped with some top of the line olive oil, and served with amazing bread. The maple syrup tart for dessert was also amazing, and I really liked the clementine sorbet (my wife was less on it). We got there a half hour early on a Friday night and were first in line -- by the time they opened, the line was down the street. The biggest surprise in our last trip to Paris! We were in the area trying to get into another restaurant that "unfortunately" was closed for a private event so we decided to give CLAMATO a shoot. Clamato was on my yelp bucket list, walking distance from where we were and also walk-ins only, so why not. When we got there the host told us the wait was around 30-45min but suggested that we could go to the sister bar Septime Le Cava for some pre-dinner drinks while we waited, we agreed! BTW, we loved the bar. After half hour they texted back and promptly we got seated at the bar. We've always been huge fans of bar seating because we love to see the prep of the dishes happening right in front of us. I feel is a great way to start waking up your appetite towards what you are visually seeing. All dishes are meant for sharing. First we got the mussels that were tasty and spicy. Then the tiradito (raw fish) was very pleasant to the palate after the spicy dish. While we were eating we saw the making of a very interesting dish that looked like a devil egg with caviar, so we give it a try. It was delicious! Super creamy. We ask the waiter to suggest one of his fav dishes from the menu and he did not hesitate by saying THE CABBAGE. I was like, CABBAGE!? Well, lets do it. Best cabbage I ever eaten in my life. An outstanding small and better alternative sister restaurant to Septime. The seafood was so fresh and everything tasted wonderful! It is a very small restaurant so go when it first opens for lunch or dinner. Otherwise, you run the risk of being turned away as there are no reservations. We started off with a tasty assortment of fresh local Parisian oysters, and then moved to the cockles that were smothered in rich tasty melted butter. The cockles may be small but very plump and juicy! The deviled eggs with caviar were scrumptious. My favorite dish was the cuttlefish with fennel and pomegranate. It had the look of a pasta dish but it definitely tasted like great quality cuttlefish. Clamato is a walk-in only seafood haven. It's located in a quiet and quaint street nearby its sister restaurants. After putting out names down, the host graciously walked us to Septime Le Cava for pre-dinner drinks. They then stopped by to grab our party of 3 and were promptly seated at the bar in less than 30minutes. This was great because we got to watch lots of the crudo/ceviche style dishes be made directly in front of us. A great tapas style menu meant for sharing, we were able to try a couple items on the daily rotational menu. The Stone bass ceviche with a mandarin satsuma sauce was amazing and had a great spicy citrusy kick to it thanks to the burnt zest oil. The whole red mullet "Al pastor" was also a happy surprise for me because I did not expect to have an amazing Al pastor in Paris and on my first evening! Other items we tried were the winter radish and shrimp salad, hand dived scallops in a cognac sauce with grapes and crispy bread. This one was also amazing! The sweetness from the grapes combined with the salty and crispy bread was a treat for the sensations. Also, worth nothing that the spicy peanut butter served with the roasted squash was another complex and flavorful combination to the palette. Unfortunately, the cocktail selection here isn't the best so best be prepared for wine or a light spritz! Of all the restaurants we tried during our week in Paris, this was our #1 favorite!!! If you're a seafood fan, HIGHLY recommend Clamato. Not only is everything super fresh but the flavors are incredible unique and well curated. Clamato was such a good experience while I was in Paris. It came as a recommendation from my tour guide on a food tour. It was definitely worth it! At first impression, the place is rather small but cozy. My party and I sat at the bar! We came off lunch hour and it was still a little busy, but we got a spot without waiting too long. My favorite was definitely the mussels. I'm usually unimpressed with mussels I've had in the states, but the mussels at Clamato was fresh and the broth was flavorful and rich. The broth truly brought out the flavor of the mussels in my opinion! We also got the the octopus and the oysters - the octopus came with a bed of corn, red pepper, and onion. So hard to get a res at Septime, but saw the sister restaurant had first come first served seating on our trip. Staked it out early and was first in line, but quickly the restaurant filled up. The meal was definitely solid, but wasn't as life changing or amazing as I thought it may have been for the sister restaurant of a top 50 restaurant in the world. The oysters, scallops, and ceviche were the best. Marinated leeks were ok, but I think that is more of a French acquired taste/method of cooking that I wasn't used too. The tuna was fine with the curry, but I didn't think it was the best use/combination, loved the deep fried kale that came with it though. Excellent seafood restaurant. We didn't have time for dinner or lunch, so we stopped by for a 'quick' bite before our dinner reservation. Quick as in I think we had 30-45 minutes. We grabbed two empty seats at the bar, sneaked at peek at our neighbor's menu (he was out for a smoke break), browsed through Instagram posts, and ordered off of that. We also asked for the check when the food came, to speed it up. We got eggs (œuf mayo/caviar) and the scallops/lime oil/kumquats dishes. We were seated in front of the chefs making the latter dish. We were told that this place had gotten popular with both locals and tourists and that there is usually a line that forms even before opening since most people aren't able to get reservations at Septime and Clamato only takes walk-ins. We got there for lunch about twenty minutes before opening and were pleasantly surprised to find that we were the first ones there, probably because it was a Monday. The service is casual and it was relaxing to just sit at the bar and watch the chefs prepare our food right in front of us. We ordered the sea urchin, oysters (you can order by the piece so we ordered four among the two of us), deviled eggs with caviar, squid, fried white fish and the orange sorbet for dessert. While their seafood and vegetable focused menu changes daily, they seem to have some items that pop up on their menus more often than others such as the deviled eggs with caviar and the orange sorbet, both of which I highly recommend. The oysters are also always on their menu and they are very fresh. I would recommend Clamato to anyone who is looking for an affordable seafood place in Paris. Don't see it as an alternative to Septime just because you can't get reservations there because Clamato offers a different yet an equally enjoyable dining experience. read more

This sister restaurant to tasting menu haven Septime is famous both for its seafood focus and its no reservation policy. Fortunately, if you manage to come before opening (we arrived around 6:45 pm), you're guaranteed a seat and all the seafood you desire. If you don't make it in the first round, you may have to wait an hour plus; there is a pleasant beer shop / bar around the corner, as well as Septime's wine bar, to kill time. We were seated in the first wave, about fifteen minutes after opening, and set to strategizing. The menu changes regularly, but you can expect several raw options, small composed plates, and a few vegetable options. The food feels like a mix of French, Nordic, and Asian influence. We had 6 dishes between 2, plus a dessert, and were pleasantly full. They have only a couple of cocktails, as well as a short by-the-glass list. I would expect to spend about 50 euro a person pre-tax and -tip with a drink each. We started with the whelk and crab. The former really blew me away; I've always been a snail fan but these were a bit more challenging and definitely more delicious. The latter was not a winner for me (I'm partial to crab claws, not the interior) but my boyfriend happily dissected this. Both accompanied with an addictive aioli. First of the small plates was a raw white fish with greens and a raw cream, and I'm so mad I don't know what this fish is now because it was delightful with the accompaniments. The tuna sheathed in a thin layer of apple was simple and perfect. The tomato tart had a nice touch of bottarga that really elevated it and worked with the buttery crust in a way I didn't expect. One of my favorite dishes was actually our sole non-seafood dish. The XO eggplant was masterfully done, with a spicy sauce that complemented the smoky eggplant. I'm not sure how we made room for dessert, but the maple syrup tart was worth it. It had an extremely rich and concentrated flavor without being overwhelming. It was almost like a caramel. On the drinks front, my boyfriend had the Bloody Caeser and was a big fan. I did a white natural wine that was perfectly refreshing. The space is hip and unassuming; it has an industrial vibe offset by a large window looking onto a garden. There's perky green paint on the exterior. Everyone here just feels cooler than you, with a mix of French and non-French speakers. Even the menu design is great. Bathrooms are clean and well-decorated. Service was fabulous. They have a way of making you feel like co-conspirators when they pull up a stool to take your order. Our waitress spoke excellent English, and they also have English menus if you need it. Pacing was slow at the beginning as they were getting everyone seated, but it was quite speedy from there, and it ended up taking about an hour. Clamato is an exceptional restaurant at quite a nice price; it reminds me of Theodore Rex in Houston or Oberlin in Providence. Uni was fresh but didn't really clean out the insides as there were some uni shit still in the shell. Even the farmer's market in San Diego cleaned it much better. Oysters very good and super fresh, super salty so please tilt the shells down so that the salt water trickles down then squeeze lemon juice and add the shallot vinaigrette. I love seafood, and small plates/sharing food, so this was a perfect combination of the two. I came here for lunch on a Saturday and luckily didn't have to wait in line and got a seat at the bar. I think for dinner you'll likely have to wait in line unless you come right when they open. We came shortly after they opened for lunch and was seated right away. The place is pretty small so not very conducive to large groups. 2-4 people is probably the right size for a group here. You could eat here solo too since they have a bar area. This restaurant is the sister restaurant to Septime (which is so hard to get reservations to), so I was happy to be able to try this place. They have super fresh seafood, inventive and unique dishes, and it's one of my favorite restaurants that I've been to this year. And the maple tart is amazing, don't miss it! The menu rotates constantly with what is fresh, so what we may have eaten may no longer be on the menu. We shared the following dishes and it was the right amount of food for us: - Cockles with a butter sauce (9€) - Out of all the dishes that we got, this one was our least favorite. There were a lot of little cockles, and they were fresh but we felt like the butter sauce overpowered the cockles, and after a while it felt a little monotonous. Compared to the other delicious dishes, this was one a bit of a miss to me. - Sea Urchin (15€) - Still in the shells with the spines, you got 3 sea urchins with a little spoon to scoop out the uni. It was really fresh and I had never eaten sea urchin like this before. If you like uni, get this but note that there is no sauce, etc. or anything that comes with this. The portion is a bit on the smaller size with this particular dish. - Bonito, Buddha Hand & Tamarind Mayonnaise (15€) - For both of us, this was our favorite dish. The bonito was served raw like sashimi, and topped with the thinnest slivers of lemon for a perfect complement. And the tamarind mayonnaise was so unique, light, and interesting. A definite winner here - get it if it's on menu, or any kind of raw fish they are serving. We would have been happy with 2 of these plates! - Mullet Ceviche (14€) - This was good, not quite as unique as some of the other dishes, and very much like a Peruvian ceviche with a French twist with a lot of shredded carrots on top. The fish was good quality, it wasn't too lime-y and the toasted corn nuts were a nice touch. While it was good, I've had many ceviches before so I would opt for something else next time. - Baked Scallops, Pork Belly, Cashew Nuts (20€) - I really loved this dish -this was my second favorite after the bonito. My husband didn't love this one quite as much because he likes his scallops more plain and this has small pieces of pork belly, a chili sauce and cashews so it was a bit spicy & a lot going on. I loved it though. - Maple Syrup Tart (8€) - We still talk about how amazing this dessert was and how it's one of the best desserts we've had in Paris (and we eaten a lot of desserts). It has a real maple flavor - not some artificial maple, and the tart's crust is light and delicate. The inside part is like the consistency of a thickened salted caramel, and it's just perfect. It's definitely a bit on the sweeter side (but not too sweet) and it pairs perfectly with the fresh whipped cream that you can see them making with the KitchenAid mixer. Seriously, don't leave without getting this dessert - it's all that and more. We're coming back here next time we're in Paris to get more! All in all, if you love fresh seafood, quality dishes and inventive flavors, this is fantastic place. I'm definitely coming back here again. It's a bit on the pricier side but still worth the money because seafood tends to be more expensive, and getting fresh seafood prepared properly is worth it. read more

The day before arriving to Paris I was contacted by two friends independent from each other telling me to eat at Clamato. How random is that? Anyway, given the popularity of this place, my Mom and I decided to show up a tad early so we could get the first seating. We were also able to procure two bar seats in front of the sous chefs so we could see everything that was being made and coming out of the kitchen. - Deviled Eggs with Caviar - you guessed it...delicious! I mean, anything with caviar is ok in my book ;) - Tuna Tartare - this was probably my favorite dish of the evening. beautifully presented, loaded with flavor and interactive. - Hamachi Salad - such a unique dressing that I'd never tasted before. Delicious. - Cod/Seafood Sauce/Cabbage - The cod was a bit too salty but, the cabbages acidity cut right through it. Oh, do yourself a favor and order the ceasar. Took over 20 minutes to arrive- by the time I got my order, the ice that the clams and oysters came in were half melted (was my order left on the kitchen counter ?). Seafood bar/restaurant, sister to the extremely difficult to reserve Septime. They don't actually take any reservations at all, but we were able to get a table for 2 easily on a Wed night at 7pm when they opened. Raw bar has various choices depending on what's available. We chose the praire clams (4 stars), which were briny and a tad sweet. The vinaigrette was amazing Cockles (5 stars): with a slightly smoky butter sauce. Even better than the clams! Would've considered drinking the sauce if it were not mostly butter Cabbage (4.5 stars): this was brilliant. It was like a carb free okonomiyaki Mackerel tartare (4.5 stars): first time having mackerel in this form and cant wait to have it again! The panko topping could've been more crisp but the rest of it was so good it didn't even matter Honey sorbet and fresh cheese ice cream with pollen (4.5 stars): even though we were cheesed out from our wine and cheesing just a few hours prior, we still really enjoyed this dish. You come across Clamato and there are people waiting outside for hours. And there's a good reason for it. We came here on our first night in Paris, Thursday night around 9pm. There was an hour wait, so we walked around the corner to their sister shop, Septime Cave. It's a wine shop with a few tapas on the menu - we ended up coming to Septime every night on the trip, see the full review there. Once our wait was over, we were seated and greeted by friendly staff. The restaurant is busy, but the servers don't try to rush you out. They're friendly and helpful with the menu. We ordered herring to start, came on a freshly baked brioche toast. It was fresh, briny, and was full of flavor. The haricot verts tossed in yogurt sauce was a highlight and the best dish was mussels with white beans. Who knew that simple tapas like that could bring that much flavor? Let's not get started on the wine and bread to start. You can't go wrong with the menu at Clamato. Clamato is located in the 11th arrondissement and is across the street from Crêperie Bretonne Fleurie - which is outstanding. It's also close to Paris Hanoï (Vietnamese) which I've reviewed previously. So lots of great food places around here! Small plates and mostly seafood. The dishes were all exceptional. We had tuna and salad (dry aged tuna with an amazing texture), razor clams - recommend, smoked haddock buns (small sandwiches), smoked salmon, oysters (several varietals to choose from. We left the wine selection to our server (a friend who is expert on the topic) and pairings were perfect. The room is not huge. It's well lit due to windows at the front and a large window in back. Sit at the bar if at all possible. Many of the dishes are prepared there so it's an open kitchen concept. For me, this makes the dining experience that much better. Dinner for 3 with 2 bottles of wine and approximately 8 small plates €170. No reservations. Also, we used Uber to get there. €10 from the 1st arrondissement to roughly Bastille (11th arrondissement). So basically a limo ride door to door for about €4 more than the metro would have cost - this is mind blowing. read more

French Seafood was definitely different, and perfectly amazing. Came for lunch with a girlfriend after we visited a museum and did some shopping around. We had so many dishes I honestly can't remember, but the restaurant had a very old vintage vibe with very lovely servers. The 2 dishes that I do absolutely remember are the RAZOR CLAMS, and FRIED WHITE BAIT FISH. I died for both! ENJOY! read more

The best welks I have ever had, the best mussels I have ever had, among the best cockles and cerviche as well. Clamato is an unassuming place next door to the impossible to reserve Septime from the same team. It offers simple and unfussy seafood cooked perfectly, without foams, dots of sauces, dehydrated this-or-that. The food here looks like it can be found in any number of seafood restaurants anywhere in the world, it's just that the food here tastes amazing. It's all cheap too. Highly recommended. read more

The freshest seafood with clean and crisp preparations that never steal thunder from the essence of the main ingredients. The menu is laid out as cold tapas and hot plates, all meant to be shared at the table. 4-5 dishes worked for our party of two. The highlight of the meal was the seafood chowder which they ladled out from a little cauldron at the end end of the meal. Great presentation and delivery of a decadent broth (without being too heavy on the cream or butter) and chock full of clams, scallops and fish! Service was gracious with lots of accommodations for food allergies and modifications/suggestions for pregnant ladies. We went without reservations right at opening and had no trouble getting a table. By the time we left, the place was standing room only. read more
