I escaped glasses and corrective lenses of any type for most of my life, but as age started to set-in, my eyesight began its slow deterioration. Given that, I first went to OA at my wife's suggestion (she's been a long-time customer). All of my experiences with them have been really, really positive. Because I understand that delays through the course of the day can back up even the most carefully prepared schedule, I opted for a 7:45 AM appointment this morning. Arriving at 7:35, I was professionally and pleasantly greeted. Had to fill out a few forms, and at 7:45, I was sitting in an exam chair. If this time of day is an option, take it! The process was great, and Dr. Ebersole was (as he's been) very thorough in his explanations. I asked a few 'different' questions, which he thoughtfully addressed to my complete satisfaction. Because I travel and have found myself occasionally breaking my glasses while away from home, I've chosen to work with a national chain for my eyeglasses. Nevertheless, the service and attention that I receive at OA is of the highest caliber, and I heartily recommend them. read more

If I could review and give less than 1 star I would. Don't get me wrong I liked my previous eye dr and really liked Dr. Ebersole. But the office manager is an unprofessional bully who makes things up including policies. I was there and in the exam room and had a cough. They never asked me to wear a mask or anything. They kicked me out when I mentioned I had covid diagnosis 19 days earlier (This was 2024 and CDC protocol was WAY less than 19 days to quarantine, my state job mandated me to be back at work for 2 weeks at that point). What I had was determined to be bronchitis and pneumonia. I left and then called 30 min later as husband and I had taken off work so I could go to the appt and have eyes dilated. Was told office mgr left after escorting me out. They could not provide the policy when I asked to see it, and not on their web page either. When I tried to reschedule they gave me a date 18 months out. Yes 18 months which as a diabetic was uncalled for and rude. The largest group of unprofessional scam artists I have ever dealt with. And fyi I would have gladly worn a mask if asked and I have been fully vaccinated. Yes this was from 9 months ago but I didn't post before now due to potential retaliation. I am the same person as EllieBeagle on Google and am not hiding my identity. Intent of review is to let people know while Drs are fantastic be careful as I was not the only person who has been unfairly treated. I stand by my review that I have not ever been that badly treated by a health provider office ever before. And a practice I had been a patient of for years. I cannot ever recommend them! read more

I've always had great care here with Dr. Carr. My insurance recently decided to randomly reject a claim and in-house billing helped me get everything squared away. I needed attention to a long lasting problem and decided to try this practice. I was so pleased with the staff for billing and the professionalism that Dr C Cerny had with my issues. It was like visiting a old friend who was a *professional*. The staff was on time, helpful and the Dr exceeded my expectations with his findings and plan. I saw Dr. Steven Ebersole and really liked him as he was patient, listened and did his best to correct my vision to the best of his abilities. I am very happy with how he treated me. I will return to see Dr. Ebersole, but I will never buy a pair of glasses from their eye glass department due to the unprofessional way I was treated by the staff. read more

This practice struggles to see patients on time. My husband waited 45 min and didn't see ANYONE. Got him rescheduled for SEVEN months later!! The practice called a day ahead and asked he come in early.....! Not for nothing, but they are slow anyway during appointments and now this. We have been going here for TWENTY SEVEN years!!! I brought my g'daughter here for her first eye appointment and was with here during the exam since she was under the age of l8. I was overwhelmed and so impressed with their customer service and their organization. All the staff seemed to be 'in tune' with each other's needs. I can't just write about food and restaurants can I? That's what I mostly do, but heck, I wear glasses (have since I was 17), so why not rep eye care on Yelp? I've been going here for a long time. I think my first pair of glasses were purchased here back in the day. I used to see Dr. Beale and thought she was great. Moved away for awhile and when I came back, I went to an eye care provider in Portland on Congress Street. They were ok, but when I was hired in 2006 to work for a nonprofit in Lewiston, returning to Optometric Associates seemed like the way to go. I went with Dr. Henry because he was accepting new patients (I think). I liked him the first time I met him. Personable, conversational, and he answered my questions. Even better, he was on the board of another local nonprofit that I served on the policy council for. Giving back to his community was another thing that impressed me about Dr. Henry. He's also a cyclist, so what's not to like? The staff here are awesome. I've never had an unpleasant experience with any of the technicians or other support staff. Their customer service is outstanding. The office is committed to staying current with technology, too, like using text alerts and other technological enhancements that busy people require. Oh, and as a wearer of glasses, they have a large selection of the latest frames, including the current horned-rimmed selections that I passed on this time. I'm old enough to remember when wearing these pegged you as a dork. Oh well, maybe next time. I've moved 2 1/2 hours away from this office, but like them so much I'm *not* switching practices! They are always courteous, accommodating, on time, my billing never gets messed up, and they have a great selection of frames if you need glasses. They explain everything they are doing and answer all questions. They are always very responsive by phone if you have a question and if you should have an emergency, they fit you right in. read more

My eyesight was bad, I had not been to the eye doctor in years. I knew I was going to need bifocals (at least). Everyone at Optometric Associates was very pleasant, kind and courteous. They took care of my vision problem and made it clear that if needed I should come back anytime (as often as necessary). My new glasses arrived within a week and they took the time to correctly fit them to my face. And, working with my insurance, they saved me hundreds of dollars. I have been going there since they've been open. Dr. Henry has been my eye doctor since I can remember. My Mom goes there too. I just LOVE Dr. Henry and the staff there, I wouldn't change a thing!!!! I've heard Dr. Henry is retiring soon or already has, I will continue there with another doctor but will greatly miss him as he was ALWAYS kind and caring!!!!! Shocking experience today here at this office: I have never written a review on-line before and take writing something negative very seriously, but this is something people should know about. Today, I went to an Urgent Care facility because my eyes were so painful I could barely open them. The Urgent Care doctor was reluctant to prescribe medicine without having my eyes examined by an eye doctor with a slit lamp. He felt it was the only responsible thing to do - have my eyes examined by a specialist. I appreciated his concern. He called Optometric Associates and secured me an appointment - for that afternoon. I was very grateful. I arrived at the appointment and the first thing they tell me is that it doesn't MATTER IF I HAVE INSURANCE. Because I came to the office from the ER, they insist I pay, out-of-pocket, between $150 and $300 UP FRONT because I am not a patient of theirs. No one has ever questioned Anthem, Blue Cross/Blue Shield in my 30 years of having this insurance. I asked them why I couldn't use my insurance card and they said it was 'office policy'. If you arrive at their office referred from the ER - you must pay up to $300 up front. Immediately. This is absolutely unacceptable. I know that Anthem/Blue Cross has an agreement with this office and that they regularly accept this insurance. What the heck? I didn't have $300 to pay up front - so they wouldn't see me. I had to leave the office - unhelped - no advice or sympathy. What is the matter with these people? Do most people have $300 in their wallet? I don't. I will never go there as a patient and hope no one ever has to be in that much pain and be turned away because they don't take ANTHEM BLUE CROSS - in an emergency situation. I have frequented Optometric Associates for over thirty years, back when it was called "Drs. Bournakel and Beale." The office has always been efficient, client-focused, and reliable and staffed with professional, considerate people. It has evolved into a solid practice and provides expertise for all optical needs. The eye glass professionals make reliable suggestions and are willing to make adjustments to the frames anytime. I always looked forward to going to my appointments there because I felt confident I would be treated with respect. The rare occasions that I had an issue of any kind, it was resolved fairly and respectfully (of course I tend to treat others that way and so it is usually reciprocated). I moved out of Maine last fall, and Optometric Associates helped me recently by answering questions and providing advice - If I find a practice in my new area that treats me with half as much care and expertise I will be happy indeed. read more
