I expected a referral to a specialist, but instead he began to treat it himself: ordering an MRI and putting me in a immobility brace. The treatments he prescribed caused me to develop new chronic illnesses. While failing to treat and resolve a patient's illness may be common in the medical community, and can be excusable, his attitude changed over time as I failed to improve. He showed signs of disbelief and began to dismiss my symptoms. I think he got in over his head by trying to treat my symptoms himself and couldn't accept his failure. Ultimately, he stopped helping me with this problem and I stopped being his patient.

I came in specifically because I was feeling unwell and suspected a blood sugar issue--especially since lab work from a different clinic the prior week showed a fasting glucose level high enough to indicate diabetes. Despite explaining this, the Physician Assistant (PA) dismissed my concerns, told me I "didn't fit the profile" for diabetes, and ordered a thyroid panel instead. Three days later, the support staff called to tell me they lost my blood sample and needed me to come back in. When I expressed frustration that they lost my sample for a test I didn't even ask for--while still refusing to run the metabolic panel I actually needed--the staff member literally hung up on me. I only returned the next day because it is within walking distance of my house and I was having the same feeling again, wanting to get to the bottom of what was happening. While the PA on duty that day was attentive, she ended up sending me to the ER for my blood pressure. After waiting four hours at the hospital, the ER doctor confirmed it wasn't an emergency at all. To top it all off, I received another call from the urgent care informing me that they did eventually run a metabolic panel, and my A1C and fasting glucose levels are, in fact, indicative of diabetes. Between the PA completely dismissing a patient's concerns, the staff losing blood samples, and being hung up on, the lack of professionalism and competence here is alarming. Go somewhere else.

I was being charged again and my paperwork was not ready. Second visit for TB test and to pick up my paperwork took over 45 minutes. And I still had to come back a third time for my clearance form. I would give them a five star review but Dr. Ruiz is an entitled pest of a human being who is impossibly rude and rough for an OB/GYN. I saw him once and regardless of the fact that I screamed ouch when he laid hands on me, he did not attempt to be gentler in any way. On to the good! Pat Evans and Corey are incredible midwives. They ensure you have a keen understanding of your pregnancy and body. SuAnne and the many other nurses are all wonderful, personable and kind. They go out of their way to ensure you feel heard and understood. I recently saw Dr. Stolyrov for a second opinion, and I'm so glad I did. She has an exceptional bedside manner -- truly the best I've ever experienced. After I had already wasted 45 minutes driving to the appointment, the receptionist handed me the phone number for Wave Imaging and told me to call them myself. Overall, I wasted my time, gas, and effort because of poor communication and a lack of organization. Patients deserve to be notified in advance when an appointment cannot be honored. I had pain and swelling inside my mouth, it was at the borderline of the gum and inside cheek, It did not look to me it was an abscess but more on the cheek as the swelling was visible on the outside as if I had mumps but that could not be as I was fully vaccinated. Dr Schachter was not available so I saw his associate who told me I had an abscess, I still did not think so but accepted the Augmentin 875 mg twice a day. I took it for 7 days it helped a little bit but did not stop hurting so I went to the urgent care and the DO told me also it was an abscess. After a week it came back w a vengeance, I could not sleep, I went in today to ask for the antibiotic to be renewed as I could not get an appointment w an ENT larynx Md till 5-27 by that time I might get into a sepsis, infection inside the mouth is not a small matter. Here is my background: After my brother graduated from U of Paris medical school he gave me all his books n I read them all. I'm not a doctor but had 7 years of courses also required to become a doctor, anatomy, physiology, phamacology, Pharmacognosy, public health you name it plus I still spend hours each day watching medical, health videos and read mayo clinic articles. I literally cured my husband illness. For years he had so much pain, he thought he was going to die, he saw about 5 doctors, surgeons some wanted to do back surgeries, I BLOCKED IT the last thing you want to do is back surgery, one day I read about sciatica, the sciatic nerve can easily get bent crushed and cause symptoms similar to what he had, I studied his case, what he did all day and FIGURED OUT 100% CORRECTLY he drove 2 hrs in traffic to LA, 4 hours a day sitting on his huge wallet bulging out of his right side jeans pocket. I told him to remove his wallet, in 3 days the pain was gone!! YEP I CURED HIM, for 8 years all 5 doctors could not figure out and almost put my husband life in danger recommending back surgery. The wallet pressed hard on the sciatica nerve causing inflammation and pain. Remove the wallet VOILA, PROBLEM SOLVED. Last night during my insomniac episode, It flashed in my head since it was not mumps, not abscess, gotta be the salivary glands, I got up at4 and read for 3 hrs all articles from mayo clinic, Cleveland clinic, etc.. looked at all the pictures of the salivary glands, it is indeed the salivary glands all dried out from blockage by either calcium deposits or extreme dryness of mouth side effects from the statins then bacterias proliferate. That's my humble opinion, do not take it as advice on anything, check w your doctor. The receptionist or whichever title she has at the desk, refused to understand my situation that this infection is not a joke, it's in the blood stream and can cause sepsis and death for nothing. I told her it won't take more than 5 to10 minutes, no blood test needed, no Xray, I already had my problem figured out, prove me wrong, please grant me that favor anybody to renew my Rx I was already on, I did not ask for the moon, she said to come back tomorrow but I'm in Hoag hospital for my husband radiation and chemo till about 3pm. There must be some leeway for cases like mine, she showed no compassion. Dr Schacter is my hero, 6 stars for him, 2 stars refer to the office help, indifference to patients suffering.

Dr Russell and Hoag is 100% shady. They're billing sneaks charges during routine visits. This has…read morehappened on TWO occasions. 1. I go in and talk to Dr. Russell and mention that I have two moles that might be concerning. He says he's not sure what to say about them but would take a picture and send it to the dermatologist to look at. Then I get a bill for almost $200 from a dermatologist I never heard of for review the pictures. No one even called and spoke to me! Just sent me a bill. Also, maybe they should tell you that you'd get charged for that. Might be nice to know! 2. Went in the next year for my annual check up and told Dr. Russell that I would like to schedule an appointment to remove the moles even if they are benign. He told me "oh well we can just do that now". Of course I said oh okay great. Now I knew I'd have to pay for the removal obviously but then they billed my insurance for my annual check up AND another office visit charging me an additional $30 to the already $275.99 for the removal. That's two office visits in one! Monica, Claudiola, and another lady in billing won't even allow you to talk to a billing manager. I'm done. Taking my entire family back to memorial care because at least they are transparent and don't pull this crap.
