They locked me against my will in the fenced gated area. 12-14 workers surrounded me. I felt my life was in danger. They demanded my ID. I found a stray Chihuahua and they were backed up and the woman who took my call asked if I could drop the dog off there. I drove 45 min to do them a favor. They were irate I did not have my ID with me. Then I handed her the dog and she refused it. I ate the 4 pound dog on the ground. Then the guards/dog workers came out and chased the poor dog who went into a frenzy. They refused to let me lick him up. It was one of the most terrifying experience of my life. If they treat good humans like this, god knows what they are doing to dogs. I have still considered suing them for kidnapping or wrongful illegal detention. This place needs to be investigated. I have a friend who's a prosecutor for the State of Florida who I will share my story with. read more

All of these photos were taken today after he got knocked out playing tug of war with his new rope toy. What I don't have photos of are: -The joy I saw in him while sticking his head out of the window on the drive home -The way he cuddled with me last night -The way he rolled on his back while watching tv on the sofa next to me and wanted me to scratch his belly -He was so hesitant to jump on the sofa and only after I insisted did he do it. He stayed kind of stiff for a few minutes and then finally just fell back and put his head in my lap and nuzzled me. He fell asleep and snored. -He slept all night next to me cuddled up, snoring and stretching out. -He was shell shocked when we got home yesterday. I had a delivery from instacart and he just walked up to the gate, didn't bark didn't react. He seemed exhausted and I think shell shocked was the best word. -Today the county was cutting the grass along the street and my neighbors in the back where out and about and he barked! A completely different dog from yesterday. I think he is sure of me and sure that this is all real and is feeling protective. Going and getting him is one of the top 5 things I have ever done. My heart breaks just a little every time I think of what he has been through and how long he waited. But I truly believe it all had to happen so we could finally rescue each other. I love him so much and can't thank the staff at Orange County enough for not euthanizing him and for hanging in there with him and praying for him. IT WORKED! I will send more photos and updates of the big guy. And while you guys were praying, I was too. My oldest dog Diesel died right before Thanksgiving and I will always have a missing piece of me. I have 2 female dogs but really I got them before I was ready for another dog. I love them but they have not been through anything. I told everyone I was waiting for the next Diesel, a dog that really needed a break and someone to come through for them. Before I adopted my pet kitten, I had never been to Orange County Animal Services. As an organization, I think they make the best of the resources they are given. Went there with the intention of getting a kitten and found one on first visit. For the very reasonable price you are able to get a pet checked for basic diseases, spayed/ neutered, and vaccinated! I was able to adopt a kitten and then within 5 day I was taking my little best friend home. She was no doubt shy at first but now is a completely loving and trusting soul. I am very appreciative for the workers, volunteers, and county for working to help these animals. For anybody looking to adopt a pet, I couldn't tell you how much I would recommend this place. Visiting this shelter really opened my third eye when I saw the amount of animals that need care everyday and made me feel as if I was finding towards a great cause. I got my sweet Angel girl from OCAS! They made the process super easy - sign in, go check out the pets, come back, fill out paper work, pay, pickup and leave. The facilities are usually nice and clean and don't seem overcrowded. The volunteers are super helpful and always eager to help you find the perfect addition to your home. I'm only docking a star because they aren't lenient on their pet pickup time - once you purchase your pet, you're expected to leave with that pet at the same time. This can be difficult for some, especially if they weren't expecting to leave with a pet that day. I adopted an extremely friendly stray that I had brought in that I was suppose to pick up in a couple of days. However, because some moron was interacting with her without my permission and got lightly scratched(their words) my car has been put under quarantine and now I have to wait an additional 10 days to be able to bring my cat home. Absolutely ridiculous. I've been interacting with this cat for 2 weeks before she came inside with me and didn't have so much as a hiss from her. Then I try to do the right thing by bringing her in to make sure she doesn't belong to anyone and now she is stuck in quarantine. Now my poor cat is stuck in the frightening shelter for more than trice as long as she would've been, all because one of the shelter's people screwed up. And instead of taking any responsibility they blame it on state rules. I am a foster volunteer with them as well but after this ridiculousness I will never foster for them again. We adopted two previous kittens from the OCASPCA and it was a wonderful experience. The cleanliness of the facility along with the friendliness of the staff was outstanding. The animals were cared for and their areas were clean. We were amazed that the kittens were free if they were ready to go home. We made a donation in their name instead. We have received follow up emails and were sent home with goodie bags that satisfies the kittens immediate needs. I would definitely recommend adopting with them. read more

I was extremely disappointed with the lack of updating on the website compared to what animals were actually available in the shelter. I know things are done differently due to Covid, but when you have to jump through hoops to get an appointment out 25 hours, you check multiple times on the animals you are interested in are available, and you get there only to be told that everyone of them are not available, it truly makes the trip not worth it. On the bright side, I am glad these animals are getting to go to forever homes. All said, we won't be finding our next friend there. read more

This place is way under funded, there's literally the vet building that burned down. I came with 3 newborn kittens I found in the front yard and they recommended that i returned them to where I found it because the mom felt like it was the safest place. We live right on pine hills rd and they would have been road kill or ran over with one of our own cars. They said if the mom rejects it then it's the circle of life. They said if I left it at the shelter the chances were slim for them to get adopted and if they didn't get adopted they'd be euthanized. These kittens were born last night 10/10/22 and their at the shelter! Please ask and adopt them if you see this post. Orlando is one of the worst stray animals out with some many ending up as roadkill, I really hope I made the right choice! read more

I fostered for these great people for 5 years and they were the best. Compassion oozes out of each and every person's pores at this facility. They care so much for each and every animal. I fostered kittens from bottle babies and up. They were so helpful to me to make sure we were doing the best for each and every one of them. I adopted my dog from OCAS a few years ago, since then I have gotten involved and volunteer at OCAS. Most of the time the shelter runs promotions so that cats and dogs have discounted adoption fees. The most it ever is is $55 which is a great deal considering the pet will be spayed/neutered, microchipped and vaccinated before you take it home. All of that costs WAY more than $55. Staff and volunteers walk the dogs and exercise them often so they aren't pent up in the kennels all the time. My time spent volunteering there has been extremely rewarding, I've seen so many wonderful pets and to my delight, adoption rates are very high! (yay!) They update their website daily so it's easy to keep up to date if you are looking for a specific size or breed. Adopt don't shop! read more

I came to this shelter to adopt a cat and I'm experience with the person who was to process the paper work, Vicki Trent, was beyond rude. I asked her a few questions about the cats health because I needed to be aware of anything before bringing a new cat home ti my other ones. I simply asked if she was FIV positive, or if her report on file said anything. She was beyond rude with me and said: "listen, do you want this cat or not"? And what are you even asking me"? I couldn't believe it. She was beyond rude and not at all helpful, As if my questions were inconveniencing her. Did not appreciate the service. Terrible experience, saw a cat online I liked, called to ask about more information. Was told he was in the clinic and could not be taken/adopted yet, because they only allow adoptions once theirs an interaction. But that I could come down and fill out paperwork for him. I check the website an hour later and he is gone. I call and they transfer me to a line that doesn't work twice, and then tell me to come in. I come in and they tell me he's been adopted, even though it was stated on the website he is in clinic and can't be adopted without an interaction, which you can't have if he's in clinic. So basically got my hopes up and had terrible communication. The place was a maze, I couldn't find who to talk to about the issue. I had assumed it was a website glitch because all the cats that are adopted are kept on the website and show up with an adoption banner. This is so frustrating because this has happed at another government run shelter. read more

These people are so beyond rude. I saw an 11 week old puppy online that I was so excited to take home, it came in the day before I decided to come see it. Long story short, I get there and this girl tells me that it has two fractures in it's arm and that I'll be responsible for the medical bills for it, I was shocked when she told me that, so I said to her OK, you know I could just wait a week until after the shelter pays them and then come pick the puppy up and just left immediately. Then I went to Facebook and had over 50 people comment other puppy, dog, and animal shelters. So if you need help, just go to Facebook or ask me because I have tons of places now. I adopted a cat on Sunday and they told me that I can pick her up after her surgery (3-4days after) I bought everything for her to be ready at home. This is what I do not understand because it seems discriminatory to me. Yesterday, on July 23rd, we were told that Bongo, the dog that my daughter had chosen had a biting problem and we were not allowed to even see him but today on July 24, 2020 he has been adopted. From your staff person's perspective he was unable to be adopted according to her because of this issue. The discrimination occurred because we were not allowed to even see him to evaluate him for ourselves. So whomever adopted Bongo was allowed to go see him and evaluate his behavior for themselves. Thus, my daughter and I were not given that same opportunity. Try explaining being discriminated against to a 12 year old the day after her birthday and how she was told that the dog she wanted could not be adopted on her birthday but was adopted today on July 24, 2020. This all happened after waiting a month for an appointment and then another two weeks after some of the staff was infected by COVID-19 through no fault of their own. I had to make another appointment despite the fact that any one who had one including myself should have had to make a new appointment because we had been patiently waiting before they shut down because of COVID-19. Now either your staff person was telling us lies or did not want my daughter and I to adopt him, which in either case I do not appreciate after waiting a month and a half to adopt a dog. Furthermore, I had to point out that people who made an appointment should get priority after you had to close during to COVID-19. We sat and waited for 30 minutes in the rain with your staff to see Bongo and Pookie. Pokie was in the clinic we were told by your staff person. So, what is the truth of the matter? Why was Bongo able to be adopted by someone else on Friday when we were told he had a biting problem on yesteday? It is beginning to feel as if we were lied to just to keep from adopting him. My daughter and i deserve the truth and not excuses or more lies. If that is the case, then my daughter's  heart was unfortunately broken on her birthday for no reason. Never mind the fact that we have been unable to book an appointment because there are no slots available for the next 30 days. I do not understand the process because between the news stories and 311 they have both emphasized how you are overwhelmed with pets but yet when we came to adopt we were lied to or discouraged from adopting the dog my daughter fell in love with at the shelter. I am going to the Orange County Board and make them aware of what is really going on at the shelter because it appears as if my daughter and I suffered discrimination because I pointed out how people who made appointments over a month in advance were being treated even after they opened the slots back up and even then we did not get firsr priority because we could not get a slot until July 23rd when our first appointment was July 17 which took us a month to obtain. read more

I adopted a beautiful blue nose pitbull from here in the beginning of December and it's the best decision I made! Although she was heartworm postive, my boyfriend and I had to have her. She's the sweetest and calmest dog ever despite being abused and neglected from her previous owner. The worst experience ever! After waiting a week for my appointment, driving an hour to adopt a pet, finding a sweet kitten to adopt and then being told "Oh sorry we made a mistake you can't adopt that one" and "Oh sorry you can't go back and find a cat you can adopt because your appointment time is over". Most of my appointment time (30 minutes) was waiting for them to allow me to adopt the pet. I spent 10 minute picking out a kitten and 15 waiting on them and another 5 minutes asking if I can go look for an adoptable pet. "Oh sorry, you can't because of COVID-19". There wasn't ANYONE even looking at cats and they said "Oh sorry, we don't know who has already made appointments" Are you serious? You're right there in the building with phones and you can't see if it's ok for us to see if there is a cat for us to adopt?!! The women who finish the final paperwork don't seem to care if animals actually get adopted. I can't even believe people with such "oh I'm sorry, but" attitudes work with animals or interact with people. You know the women who really aren't sorry, but they say it to sound like you're the one with the problem. That's the ones I'm talking about. They are stopping people from adopting pets and might want to rethink what they are doing and how it affects the people and animals they supposedly work to protect. read more

I took my precious fur-baby to the ER the other day because when I got home from work, she was limping and her hocks were super swollen. I panicked and called the veterinarian who advised me to go to the ER. She was diagnosed with Shar-Pei fever from a vet who didn't even look at her! After a few minutes, he left and said they'd bring me an invoice. When I saw the almost $700 bill, I was shocked! I ended up paying the $108 for the ER visit and agreed to take her to my vet first thing in the morning. However, my cousin told me about Pet Alliance in Orlando and how he had a positive experience there (especially financially) so I figured why not give it a shot?! Glad I did! The staff was nice, facility was spacious and clean, and they even took me in as a walk-in. I was supposed to get he 1pm slot but they got us into a room an hour and a half earlier than that. That was so appreciated! The Vet didn't have good bed-side manners, but I could tell she knew what she was talking about and was knowledgeable. Although, she would not diagnose my baby with Shar-Pei fever (perhaps because not having all of the tools needed) but recommended running blood-work. I even had them clip her nails! Blood work cane back normal aside from low white blood cells. My baby was already looking much better. She was given antibiotics and another Script which all came out to about $170. My furbaby is an OCAS alumnus (he was a stray which went to OCAS, then rescue, then me) which seems to surprise some people because he is a) adorable and b) not a pitbull. I tell everyone where he is from because I want to help remove any stigma of adoption! There are a LOT of adorable cats and dogs that pass through this shelter, of all sizes and breeds - yes, It is true that they do take in a lot of bully-breeds as well, but like all dogs, they can also be sweet amazing dogs when raised properly. When you walk their halls, be prepared that it can be noisy as many animals vie for your attention, and bear in mind that many of these critters have been stray or neglected for some time before ending up here - so while they may need baths or groceries or maybe some snuggles and the wonderful comfort of an indoor home they may never have known, you just may find the baby that's right for you here. OCAS has also been doing some wonderful things lately with Pawsitive Shelter Photography, giving some of these sweeties a proper photo shoot and a better chance at finding a home. All pets adopted out are fixed and chipped as well as updated on shots - an excellent value for the small adoption fee they charge. On the service side, I also have noticed they keep their website updated super fast, which is outstanding for those who lose their pets. We dropped off a stray with them after flyering our neighborhood for several days to no avail (he was happily adopted) and more recently spotted a friend's lost dog on their site right after he went missing. read more

Worst experience I've ever had. We made an appointment to adopt a cat. We met a cat and had an interaction and were done in 10 minutes and knew what cat we wanted and were told it was all ready. We then had to wait 15-20 minutes to meet with the check out people to adopt our cat only for them to tell us she didn't have surgery and had a week hold. They would not let us go in to look at the other cats because our appointment was over, even tho we spent over half our appointment just waiting to check out. These check out woman totally had an attitude and definetly didn't care about finding a home for these sweet cats. Quick and easy adoption yes, but staff communication is terrible. They will never get back to your phone calls and if you come in for for the clinic, expect to wait an hour for the only vet because they take that long of a lunch break. (Hours are 2-5pm, mon-fri). They also seem like they aren't as enthused to work here which makes it hard for them to be understanding. read more
