I can't say enough positive things about Bill and OC Beekeeping Supply! Last year my daughter wanted to start keeping bees. We had a top bar hive a friend had given us, but had no idea how to set it up. When we came to the shop, Bill spent a lot of time talking with us about beekeeping, beekeeping culture, the gear we'd need (the gear we purchased from him was high quality and he didn't upsell us anything), how to set up our non-standard hive, and he made sure we could get a package of Italian bees. He was really encouraging, gave us a lot of professional advice, and made my daughter feel confident. These bees were incredible! They were honey-producing machines and absolutely gentle. The hive is next to the chicken coop and the bees were never aggressive. From March until September the bees filled over half of the bars with comb. Unfortunately, the school across the street from us sprayed their campus with poison and our entire hive died within a week. Bill was so kind and helpful when I called for advice. When we're ready to get back into beekeeping, we'll head back to OC Beekeeping. The shop is very clean and modern looking. They make beautiful Langstroth hives on site and have everything you'd need to set up a successful hive. We also highly recommend his package bees and nucs. read more

With Bill Gibson as the new owner, OC Beekeeping has a new, clean look. Items in the front room are displayed in a unique, fun way with all sorts of bee supplies to pique your fancy. The selection of hive wooden ware (prepainted or raw wood) has grown and is well put together. There's a nice selection of foundation frames; heavy waxed plastic/drone/foundationless etc. Besides hive equipment, the shop sells pretty much everything you can think of related to beekeeping. I feel certain if you asked for a certain item that isn't stock, Bill would try and obtain it. There's a good selection of miticides along with thorough verbal instruction going over all the dos and don'ts for those who need some help in learning how to keep their hives as varroa free as possible. I purchased a nucleus colony (last year) from OC Beekeeping which has thrived and is now making honey. Bill loves bees and is quite patient answering all manner of questions. As he an apiary himself there's a selection of honey and beeswax for sale. I tried some creamed honey made by beekeeper Gavin, and it's taste is lovely and sweet. UPDATE: Beekeeping is amazing, but not always easy! Each hive seems to be a little different and require special techniques that are only learned from years of experience. That's what OC Beekeeping Supply (and the Amazing Bill and Tom!) offer. I've ran into several hiccups with my hive, and would have been completely lost without their support. I've scoured the internet, but our region is unique and local knowledge is required. So grateful for them, and especially Bill that is always eager to help. We went in today knowing basically nothing and had pictures of our beekeeping box that was not the typical one people use (it was a kickstarter invention). This is my first Yelp review and frankly, it's about time I did one for this shop. What made me actually write this has to do with the guy who was in the shop just before I got there during my last visit. I see he wrote a review, too. Well, I'm here to tell you that Chet is full of Shet. He was in the shop pestering Bill and trying to get free beeswax and beekeeping gear. I know his name, because he kept saying his name was Chet, like that was supposed to mean something. It was seriously hard not to laugh and not just yell at the guy to beat it. Bill was beyond patient and nice to him (I wouldn't have been) and explained that he couldn't just give gear away to him, but Chet was being loud, obnoxious and frankly, pissing me off, since I needed to get some bee gear and ask Bill a couple questions myself. I actually couldn't hold my tongue and told him to stop pestering the man and buy something or get out. I've never in my life been so outright annoyed with a person I didn't' know. For him to claim he was a doctor is just strange, too. I'm sure its a lie, just like his review. He seemed awfully uneducated and rude, demanding free gear for someone who claims to have been a doctor. Anyway, Chet is one of those people who thinks he's owed something and if he doesn't get it, gets loud and threatens bad reviews, which he unfortunately wrote. I actually sent a request to Yelp, telling them they should remove the review, since I was there and it was not accurate, but they don't care, so here I am writing a review because I find it wrong that a jerk like that can just lie and have it possibly be believed. I've been coming to this shop since before I started beekeeping a couple years ago. Bill has always been beyond helpful with all my questions. I've been to other bee shops and they aren't nearly as nice or knowledgable. Bill is a beekeeper and very experienced. If I just followed his advice on everything, instead of trying to do what YouTube and social media beekeepers told me to do, I would've saved myself a lot of stress and heartache. Hi fellow beekeeper, I'm a retired Physician who is trying to get back into beekeepin. I've kept bee's professionally, maintaining over a hundred colonies a year. The first time in I bought a Dadant smoker and frames. The second time in I wanted to buy some beeswa. He had what I wanted but was unwilling to sell me a pound of beeswax. He explained fo 5 minutes about his 2 other investors and his desire to process it and sell it at a premium. Caution here ; The smile wears thin quickly! Owner Tom has always been polite, supportive, and informative. Owner Rob has never failed to try to upsell me. Today I was in, and Rob was not content to tell me that they didn't have a product I was interested in, but had to scornfully quiz me on why I was even considering it. I was interested in an Imrie shim, for God's sake, and he either didn't know or pretended to not know what that was. Then, when I asked about buying a new veil, he tried to upsell me on a jacket as well, which I didn't want or need.
