I really really really love this place. It's a bit ridiculous how happy I get when I visit OCFS, but it's a magical place for anyone who likes to garden. Prices are competitive, and they're stocked with boat loads of well-established brands of gardening stuff. I drive out from the westside to pick up ProMix, mulch, some ferts, and gardening tools because of how decently priced things are here compared to other stores. Solid place, great customer service, and a relaxing place to visit. The only caveat is that they don't have the widest selection of plants, and a lot of the items offered look kind of beat down. You might want to go to a local nursery for some better offerings. read more

If you are a gardener, this is a genuine place for you. The knowledge of the sales staff is legendary. Take a picture of a bad patch of grass on your phone and get the perfect solution. Give the sales people the information about your current challenge and get expert help. The bags of amendments are huge, and reasonably priced. They have a lot of starter plants for vegetable gardens and some flowers both perennial and annual. If it has to do with gardening, they probably have it, including chicks in the spring. read more

Chris is a very helpful and informative person. I wish more places would take the time to answer your questions and give you recommendations. Prices were very fair and I love supporting independent businesses still making it with the online marketing beating on them. The drought buster grass seed is a very nice and durable grass for my two small children and two medium dogs to play on. It is very green and doesn't need much water once established. Although I have not bought any I also saw they sell a lot of planted vegetables and have a good variety of the very hot type peppers like scotch bonnet and others that burn twice. During these this pandemic, I'm trying to support smaller businesses when I can. I drove all the way out here to pick up some compost and fertilizer. The store clerk was very nice and accommodating. I came in not having a clue on my plants were yellowing and he was able to direct me to the right fertilizer to treat the problems. First, this is a Farm Supply, not what you would quite think of as a more retail Garden Center, like Armstrong. That just means, you're a little more on your own while shopping. Locally owned. Yeah! The guy I asked a question about the starter herb plants, his answer wasn't great. I inquired if they had Italian Parsley. I wasn't seeing it in the area I was looking. Turns out, they DID have it, just in another aisle. What I Love Here: The abundance of Certified Organic plants, soil, seeds, and amendments. No worries that you're getting any GMOs. The quality of their farm and garden tools. Most warehouse supply venues sell tools that are made with plastic. Their tools are much sturdier. Yes, you might pay a little more for a tool, but it'll last you a lifetime and you can leave it in your will to your next generation of gardeners and micro farmers in your family. The BIG stuff, you just tell them up front what it is, they charge you for it, and then you drive around to the Loading Zone, and they heft it into your vehicle for you. The loading guy (same one who didn't direct me to the Italian Parsley) knew a lit about the potting HUGE bags. He gave me the tip and demonstrated how to schlep the bag so it doesn't break. You can get purer Hen Manure here. I'll be back when I want to feed my roses! What They Don't Have: They had a few nicer terra cotta pots, but this is not the place to get several different sizes and styles if pots. Try Armstrong for that as well as more garden ornaments. Excellent Customer Service! I called them because I was looking for an inoculate for peas and beans that I couldn't find at the big box stores or other nurseries. I spoke with Chris and he immediately knew what I was asking for. He said they didn't have it in stock. Instead of ending the call there, he offered to hunt down their buyer to determine if they could custom order it for me, even though I only need one small bag. After a couple f minutes on hold, Chris told me that they will order the product and have it in stock by the end of the week and that they'll give me a call when it's available. He even gave me some great advice for how to use the product. read more

My first time visiting based on a recomnendation. Went there to purchase large plastic pots to transfer plants that have outgrown their containers. Found the size I needed, HOWEVER, there was no pricing on the containers nor in the area. I asked one of the workers how much for this plastic pot. He looked on a posted sheet and told me $6.35 each. When I took my four pits to the register, they had to look it up and told me $13+. I needed the pots so I purchased them. I looked around the facility and saw some things listed or tagged. Soooo overwhelmed...these guys have a little of everything and lots you don't know you need until you get there! I should have waited to get my tomato plants here but I digress...they have a variety of different types of mulch (gorilla hair, my fav), dg, pumice, perlite...when you go through the door, make a quick u turn and on the wall to the left of the door you'll see bottles of the stuff, soooo much stuff. Plants are in the back, sooo many plants and lots of things growing around the side. They have all the amendments needed to make your garden great, I just couldn't absorb it all, silly me, I thought just plant it and water but no, there is so much more. 3.5 Not a large supply store but you may find what you need. They have ladybugs and red worms. And maybe praying mantis egg in a better season. Some plants out front and gardening supplies inside. Prices are a hit or miss. Some generic items you might be able to find cheaper at Home Depot but other items like bird seed socks were cheaper than amazon. I'd say you should take a look if you're near by. But not particularly extensive if you're far away. Spoke with a couple associates, some helpful and some seemed too busy to help. There's no available restroom. Whatever GreenCoast Hydroponics does not have in stock, they mostly can order for you, which you can get within 3 days. I don't work for GreenCoast Hydroponics. I really wish Yelp would provide an option for no stars or negative stars. I went here today to buy some materials for seed starting with soil blocks. A guy with dreads, wearing ray-bans, was very friendly and helped me find everything I needed. After he printed out an itemized list of some things we looked at together with their prices, he headed out to lunch. After going through the list and circling all the items I wanted and crossing out the items I didn't want with a pen, I waited at the front to be rung up by the cashier. The cashier was a balding older man with glasses and he decided to help a woman who was standing up there after I had. I continued to wait patiently as he helped her, but as soon as that transaction was done, he picked up the phone and had a shouting match with his mother instead of helping me. After he finally acknowledged my presence, I presented him with the list and asked for those things to be rung up. After paying for everything, I walked outside to have my large/bulk items brought from storage areas, and I realized that he charged me for an item I didn't want. I went back inside to get it corrected, but only to be yelled at by the man. He said, "I ASKED IF YOU WANTED ALL OF THIS!" My response was, "Yes, I thought it was clear that I wanted everything that was circled, not including the one item that was SCRATCHED OUT IN PEN." He ran back to dig through the trash can all in a huff and silently gave me my refund, clearly bothered that I was in the right about his misdoing. He also didn't even bother apologizing. In conclusion, DO NOT EVER SHOP HERE. Horrendous customer service, not the best prices, and clearly not strong proponents for organic growing methods. Their main specialty seems to be in selling pesticides like Round-Up (made by Monsanto), and it's obvious that they only barely stock organic items just because the people come in looking for it. They have blow up dolls of dead pests from pesticides manufacturers hanging in their back windows. If you're looking to do some organic gardening with a clean conscious in mind, AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS! read more

Awful customer service. I told the guy at the counter that wasps come and cut my leaves and fly them away, and I was looking for some sort of repellent. He nodded, walked me over to a shelf and gave me a can of wasp killer and mumbled "kills on contact". I said, no, like I told you, what I want is a repellent, I kill wasp nests when I find them, but I've been trying to do netting or something because there's lots of wasps in our neighborhood....he ignored me completely and walked back behind the counter without another word. I finished talking and he just left me there. If you don't have anything, say so, don't just ignore me. You're supposed to be experts on pest control. I only give it two stars because I like the selection there. read more

Happy new year everyone and may this year be way better than last year. Remember that old rule? If you can't say something nice don't say anything. Well, I'm trying. I've been shopping here for about 10 years and really need to rate them but in different categories. For starters I spend hundreds of dollars every time and don't look at price ever. 1- product selection 5 stars they do have the good stuff (except for seedlings) great selection of amendments, growing mediums, etc 2-warehouse staff and people who load your car with the things you buy. I would give them 10 stars. They're the best and do the work. 3- the sales people and people that run it. Really not sales people at all. 1 star. Not to get into it but major attitude and usually when you ask a question they give you a look like, "why are you bothering me". In laymen's terms they really really need to work on customer service. Maybe it's because of their products and selection they feel they can lapse in service or nobody says hey. Be happy. 4- check out experience 2 stars 5 -calling to check stock 2 stars That's it's. Spent a good amount of money (about $500) here to start my garden journey. They act so nice when they feel you are going to spend money. Wish they would help and layout what I needed when starting the garden so that I don't have to go back and forth to ask questions. Good luck on calling them for help, they rush to push you off the phone. First thing you will notice is that this place has staff is way too busy to help anyone out with questions. One of their staff told me to wait until the store closes and he would help me out with questions I may have, but when the hours reached closing, I was pushed from one staff to the next and in the end, I left without any help. I wouldn't recommend this place and would rather spend my money elsewhere and its a shame they are not that genuine with helping out their customers. The plants they sell are a hit and miss in terms of growth and survival. If you try them out and have a good experience, then continue to support them, but I will be looking at other local businesses to support. read more

Came here looking for organic compost and soil for my vegetable garden. You really have to read the ingredients careful as some that are labeled organic come with chicken manure (which I didn't want). They ended up carrying doctor earth brand which was exactly what I needed. They also had plenty of organic Dr Earth fertilizer. My one complaint NO organic non-gmo seeds!!! Service was good and the employees were helpful. read more

Love this place. When I need grass seed this is my go to. Their drought buster fescue is amazing and pretty cheap, especially compared to Home Depot and Lowe's. The folks here are super nice too. What can I say but this nursery is amazing and I would give them 10 stars if I could! I always deal with Chris; he is my go to for any issues related to my palm trees or plumerias. He has always been courteous & professional and spends as much time as needed without any attitude! Needed to get rid of oxalis and a weed called "spurge" in our lawn. A colleague recommended this place and told me to tell the guy what I was trying to do. Very help counter staff and went with the suggestion to get something called "spray mate" which is a product you add last when mixing weed killers which helps the chemical stay on the weed you spray. I am very pleased to say the products that were suggested worked well and my lawn is looking much better. I did see the bearded guy other reviewers have commented on, but I did not interact with him, just the counter guy who was very helpful. read more

Very Grateful to Chris! The one-man arborist/garden spray company that we used for 30 years retired. When very tall, 30-year-old trees are infested -- this is NOT something you can take care of on your own. Spent HOURS calling around to arborists (who only wanted to trim or remove trees) and pest exterminators (who only did structures), before one of the pest control people suggested calling a particular large garden center -- which also did not know of anyone -- but gave me the great tip that Orange County Farm Supply is THE place in the County that anyone who did do garden spraying would buy their supplies.
