I work at Walmart and I recently moved here so I don't really know anyone at all and I talk with a lot of the homeless people while on my breaks.

MALICIOUS CONDUCT & SERVICE OBSTRUCTION: Formal Complaint Against Tamara Theodossin…read more "Tamara's conduct is a disgrace to this organization and a danger to the community she is paid to serve. While I am experiencing the life-altering crisis of homelessness, Tamara met my requests for help with literal eye-rolling and a total lack of human decency. More than just her disgusting attitude, she is actively sabotaging my case. Despite receiving my medical documentation, she failed to update my status--blocking my access to the services I am legally entitled to. When confronted, she lied by stating there was 'nothing I could do' and has since gone silent, refusing to answer emails. To the Director of this Agency: You have a representative who openly mocks the homeless and provides false information to avoid doing her job. Her refusal to correct documented errors is not just a 'mistake,' it is a violation of her duty. I am demanding an immediate transfer of my case to a competent worker and a full correction of my status. I will not be silenced or ignored while my life is on the line."

This area is adjacent/parallel with a connection to the PCH and is a stones throw from the water. This particular area felt peaceful and highly walkable. There is a good amount of places to find drinks and some great restaurants. The parking in the area isn't too bad and was very easy to find as well. My friends and I came here with their dog to grab a late lunch over at Truly Pizza - a restaurant I am now very fond of. As a bonus, there was a small dog park within walking distance so we were able to go and spend some time there after dinner for a bit. The pup really appreciated and enjoyed the park! Within that stretch, there was a brewery/ tap house that we also got to visit and enjoy some beers at. I don't spend much time in this area and the Lantern District is just a small slice of the overall city, but I enjoyed visiting for sure.

A post office in Dana Point California means palm trees all around, a nice private parking lot with 12 spaces, a huge spotless lobby with plenty of counters to pack, repack and fill out forms, a great pets allowed policy allowing seniors to bring in their adorable puppies and the best employees including the stellar Desiree who was calm, quick, alert, thorough, polite and offered me all options (not just the most expensive ones) to mail the packages to New York. I needed padded mailers in two sizes and they had ample supplies plus funny greeting cards to make you smile and laugh as you wait. This was a great experience. A woman from the back office came out to "help". Asking people to give her drop offs. I waited to give her my 2 prepaid parcels. When it was my turn, one package was rudely pushed back with no offer to assist or to find a solution - "just you will have to repackage it and come back". I asked for help to cover an old label because getting to the post office is difficult. She refused. The label could have been covered by a mailing label or tape had the individual chosen to help. I offered to buy tape. "No"was her answer. I stood at the side counter for almost ten minutes balancing a cane with a broken leg, sweat dripping to peel off the label so that I did not have to manage another trip. There are a lot of good folks that work at the PO - this was not an example.

The venue we rented out was the San Juan Capistrano Community Center. The customer service is horrible. They act all nice but when you actually ask for something, they throw out the passive aggressive act. EX: I asked for a round table for the buffet area. My contact said "no problem". I talk to the tech guy/supervisor (no idea who he is) and he said "we don't do that but OK, we'll make an exception" and he looked exasperated. I told him I told someone two days ago so it was definitely not last minute. EX: The sound system has been purchased two years ago and they still don't have a cable from the laptop or projector program to their own sound system. I ask him what it's called and the tech guy repeatedly said "I don't know". Sigh. EX. The lady in charge of the night shift kept saying "you have to stay the whole time. If the rental company stays longer than 10pm (they got there at 9:40) we'll have to overcharge you" She just made it a point to let us know she might overcharge us. ARGH! Everything else was fine but THEY made the whole experience tense.

When researching what to do in town, the library kept popping up, mostly because of its architecture, and I'm so glad I made it a point to walk over to the library located on the edge of town. Yes, the building is absolutely stunning and incredibly unique... but what truly made the experience extra special for me were the librarians. They were so genuinely kind and welcoming and I very proudly added an Orange County Library card to my growing collection (a personal joy, honestly). It was the perfect place to wander aimlessly amongst the stacks of books, charge my devices, sit and relax, and browse through their national park books. The Friends of the San Juan Capistrano Library Bookstore was also open and had a great selection that made it very hard to leave empty handed. This library is beautiful, peaceful, resource rich (more than just books!) I wish I lived closer so I could come more often.

This area also preserves three original adobe homes built around 1794--the Rios, Montanez, and Silvas adobes. Later in the 19th and early 20th centuries, wooden board-and-batten houses and Victorian buildings were added to the street. There's a spacious park including a butterfly garden, Hidden House coffee shop, a tea shop & a few little stores and several restaurants. There's also an adorable petting zoo! It's quaint and easy to see in under an hour, or you could spend a few hours relaxing & taking your time. It's easy to access to Los Rios from the 5 & there is plenty of free or low cost parking. My family took the Metrolink from the Anaheim station ($10 per person) and it took about 45 minutes. Hubby and I drove from San Gabriel which took a little over an hour. My usual go to is The Hidden House Coffee shop with affordable and well made drinks, offering a sizable outdoor patio. The Ramos House Cafe is a few steps away, as well as the Los Rios Tea house. All of these are historic homes, vintage and picturesque. Within a few feet from the public parking lot is the Montanez building, where a nearby butterfly sanctuary is located. The Los Rios Cottages are for rent which are located next door to the Ramos House, very pretty but these are right alongside the train tracks, if you don't mind that racket, it'll be fine. It's an easy stroll and a beautiful destination. Come check it out. There are plenty more shops that I haven't visited. Today, I am limited as I have a medical boot (and a crutch) that's preventing me from my usual nosiness in discovering things on foot, until next time.
