They have a small dog side and big dog side, but if you bring your big dog/puppy to the small dogs side, most people are usually okay with that as long as it's not too aggressive in its play. Both sides have pretty big areas so they have room to run, run, run. And bring that's it's a public park as well, it's all natural, with grass, dirt, and even gophers. Not much in shade; there's a couple of trees on each side. A couple of tables and benches, too, but that's it. Water stations on each side are good. Both sides have little dog obstacles/ramps for them to exercise on. Overall, it's a really good dog park, and the size is one of the biggest, if not the biggest dog park, in the county.

The dog park does have a parking area right next to it unless u want to walk through the park. They have two areas for the dogs- small and large. The small dog side is pretty decent size with water fountain, bowls, and doggie bag dispenser. It's pretty clean. It has a few agility equipment items. We tried the ramp and it was super steep so u need to run to get up it. It was a Tuesday morning so only one other dog not interested in playing but we sniffed until our hearts were delighted. There were more dogs on the big dog side. There is a little grass on the small dog side which is nice where as the big dog side is almost none. Overall this is a nice park to bring your pups!

But I never made it in. I walked around the immediate vicinity to ensure this park was the only dog park area, since I saw 2 dogs (a rottie & pit) in there, and someone laying down...didn't wanna go I guess. Welp that was it, as I approached the dog area w/my dog on leash the pitfall started barking, so the person got up and started going through her stuff. The pit continues barking, but the tail wags a bit....But then the lady comes over with a leash and clips the pit. I asked her if the rottie was dog friendly - no clue what she said. She then puts the handle portion just over the fence post. I told her that's not secure nor safe, and she mumbled something I couldn't understand. I think she went to get another leash, but I told her that's okay we would leave as I don't feel safe with her dogs. The rottie ran along the fence line barking at us (rolled down back window) as we drove out - I guess they were mad we didn't come play.Not sure if you can make out the pit in the photo, he/she isn't big, but I don't want need any problems for my dog or myself. - especially if the dogs ganged up on my dog or me. I don't believe in breed targeting/discrimination, so the fact that these two are deemed "aggressive" breeds by society's standards has 0 bearing here. Just wanted folks to be aware of this lady. It's hard to make out the pit, in the right corner. Without this lady (I feel like she's a consistent customer here), I'd rate this place a 3-star since it does cover the basics.

Too bad almost all OC dog parks have areas that are not too nice for small dogs and their owners. Lotta dirt and tiny enclosures. Not as if the dogs care so much, but this human does. Even though I very much enjoyed this dog park, it would have been better to have a water fountain for dog bowls INSIDE instead of having to go OUTSIDE the enclosure to fill up the bowl's interspersed inside. It has a very nice step on water fountain for the dogs as well as multiple poop bag dispenser is all around the park. There are multiple trash cans, multiple bone benches and enough trees to provide shade. It has a very nice double-gated entry area as well as a brick or concrete base. At one time it looks like it had wood chips but now it mostly just has natural ground covering.

There is grass and dirt area a long enough throw from some Frisbee. And a Model 1200 Filter water pet system. I do t know why but my dog would not drink from it. Guess she's Bougie. Usually there are not much people here but when there is, expect parking to be a pain. Very limited parking spots. There are 2 playground sections for the kids. One is for younger kids and the other is for the older kids. There is a big field to play football, soccer or just to run around. The park also has a basketball court, 2 water fountains and 3 benches with shade. If you're looking for a nice quiet area to relax, spend time with kids or get a workout, this park is for you.

Small dogs and large dogs have their own areas. On the small dog side they have a pretty big patio area with a ton of chairs and some tables. There is a shade over the corner area which is nice. They also have a big dog bowl and a hose- useful for washing down pee and filling the dog bowl. There is plenty of grass and it's a decent size for little dogs. I believe there are Chihuahua and pomeranian meetups there on a regular. I happened to be having a pug meetup on a Sunday. There were several people who seemed like regulars just sitting, chilling in the shade and letting their dogs run around so I feel like it's somewhere u can go hang for a bit. Everyone was nice. Several people commented that it was a great park. We will have to go back.

Maybe they need a scale near the gate because some of these pooches inside the premises were well over that weight limit. There were two separate off-leash pens, one for the smalls and another for the biggies. Over the years, there have been multiple attempts to renovate and upgrade this park with mixed results. The parking lot was reasonably large and could hold several dozen vehicles. A port-a-john facility was available along with picnic tables (including a canopy) and several chairs for owners to chill. Water bowls and fountains plus tennis balls for the doggies were plentiful. I did notice that the grass was quite worn down so there were lots of dirt patches. When it rains, you get many muddy puddles. As long as the humans acted responsibly like picking up the poop of their puppy, then this spot is a decent option to let your furry friend run around if you live nearby. Capehart Dog Park is middle of the pack for a city-owned dog park, therefore a three star rating was warranted.
