Really enjoyed this hike to the top of Mount San Miguel. The trail is about 2 miles up, making it roughly 4 miles roundtrip, with around 1,000 feet of elevation gain. I would consider it a moderate hike. The views at the top are beautiful, overlooking Bonita and Chula Vista, and definitely making the climb worth it. Great spot if you're looking for a scenic and rewarding workout. read more

Beautiful day for a hike. I enjoyed the hike up, just an enough of a challenge. Only issue I had was ensuring I stayed in the trail. It breaks off in different ways due to ppl paving their own way. The plan was to go all the way around but it got a little tight with the brush and I didn't feel comfortable since the snakes were active and I didn't have a stick on me. I attended a men's softball game on a chilly January night. So I didn't get to see the whole surrounding area but what I noticed was the first class softball fields~ complete with fencing, dugouts, bleacher seats and above average bathroom facilities. Plenty of parking as well as sufficient lighting throughout the whole park. You can tell the park is well maintained. Even though the park itself isn't too old. You can tell the people in charge want to keep the park in the best shape possible. A pretty nice facility to watch or play in a softball game. read more

Had a wonderful time attending a friend's softball game here! Tons of parking. Heads up for the "pop up ball" zones - though I didn't witness any balls hit over the fence. This is horrible so much pollution. They need to put up solar powered cameras in this place to prevent people from littering here because it's affecting the environmental protection laws.. it's messing with the ecology of the animals here as well there's a whole mountain right here with a sign of wildlife preserve. It's truly disturbing and disgusting to see how humans do not appreciate the beauty of this world given to us for free. This is a beautiful hike. It's moderately difficult. There are different wildflowers along the trail. Parking is inside a neighborhood. There is a spot at the top you can rest before heading back down if you choose. Great views. Go early, because it gets hot quickly! read more

I usually really like this park I love their basketball courts . The nature walk path is well kept and it's a really nice serene walk . The restroom are a little ways to get to but I've never checked them out , so I can't speak of the cleanliness of them. But do vouch on the distance of the restroom . The proof is in the pudding , some children were very freely relieving themselves on the plants . Today I tried out the children's play ground although the area is well kept . The play structure needs some help . It is unsafe for children younger than 5 years old and that's only if they are tall . My two year old is the height of a 4yr old super tall and the steps are super high. The drop from the slide is too steep . The steps into the play area are also very steep . Yes, children should always be supervised but even then it's unsafe . An abundance of mulch most likely can fix these issue . In the meantime I will be visiting a different park for that reason . read more

This a very nice park and it's also a great starting place if you are interested on going on a hike to the nearby mountains using the worn paths. The park offers three baseball/ softball fields, playground equipment, basketball courts, BBQ's, restrooms, and tennis ball courts. The park is large at 19 plus acres and like I said earlier it is near by walking trails that lead up into the local mountains. The park also dubs as a dog park and large parties are allowed with those huge jumpy things. There are shaded picnic areas with tables and trash cans for convenience. In a nut shell, the park is well planned out and community minded. read more

Someone posted that this isn't a dog park. There IS a dog park at this park just so people aren't confused. It separates big dogs from the small dogs. There's water fountains and when it doesn't get stolen, there's a shovel to pick up the poop but make sure to bring bags because they aren't supplied here. When you turn into the park from the main street you need to veer right and go all the way down. The two dog parks will be on your right. It's not a busy dog park but there's definitely regulars that go between 5-7pm. If you enjoy a small, mellow dog park that often times doesn't even have dogs, then this is for you. If you want larger, head to Montevalle a couple miles away. read more

Oh, the flowers are blooming! This place is worth a visit, yes, yes. Everything is so green and gorgeous right now. About two miles up, the flowers get really nice. I'd never been here before, but found this park/hiking area based on a San Diego-based ladies hiking group. I sure am happy I stopped and hiked. A few things to note: - trails are not marked. For someone who isn't familiar with the area and hadn't been here before, I kept my eye on AllTrails. - if there are rocks blocking the path, don't go that way! It's evident that the "straight up" route didn't use to be a trail, but it's been turned into one. Good workout with steady switchbacks. Really enjoyed this. Clocked about 5-miles. 12/100 read more

A pretty large neighborhood park. Spacious, grassy open area. Trails, basketball, baseball, playgrounds... There were a lot of tables scattered around and a couple gazebos. Part of a challenge, this was supposedly a walkover - pun intended- after the two previous ones. Not! A hiking trail, albeit one in disrepair with nil signposting and in fact, with the entrance closed, this one is more than a 'moderate' climb as it us classified. The place could do with more attention and care. The initial third is probably the toughest even as it evens out till the 75% stage. One final thrust and you are at the top. Coming down is tricky too since the rubble and detritus make for possible slip traps. Intention is to get volunteers for the upkeep and standardizing this meaningful hiking resource. All in all worth a visit and an apt candidate for a series to test ones fitness level! read more

This is my favorite hike down south. The hike has multiple routes depending on your skill level. You can take the switch back route which is a little easier or go straight up a very steep incline. Once the steep incline is over, you have about another mile of slowly rising terrain before you reach the top. Great views of San Diego, the ocean, and MX especially at sunset. This was an amazing hike! I loved how quickly it went because the hike was literally you just climbing the mountain. It was a challenge, but I love taking on difficult challenges! That's what made it fun for me. There are various paths that you can take to get up the mountain of various difficulties. We made it up to the flag, but wanted to go all the way to the very top. However, we ran out of time and had to leave because we had to do other things that day. I'm dying to go back and take on that challenging mountain again sometime soon! I can't wait. It's such a good workout, I was super sore that night and the following day because of how much climbing it was. I was looking for a local dog park, and this place is pretty good. There are two small dog parks next to each other, separated by a fence. One has a lot of grass, the other is mostly dirt, but both are natural grass, no turf. There is a drinking fountain for the dogs and a fake hydrant for them, which I thought was a humorous touch. There are benches and picnic tables to sit at within the dog area. It was also nice because there is a central bathroom to the park (my brother said there were no doors on the stalls though), and the kids playground was pretty big. My daughter had fun riding her bike along the sidewalk and playing on the playground equipment in the "tot lot". There are two play areas and although the park calls it a tot lot, one area is for ages 0-5 and the other is more like 5-12 years. I will go back at some point because my good boy loves playing with the other dogs and my kid had fun, but I wouldn't recommend taking dogs there after the rain due to the dirt and lack of grass in the dog areas. The entire park was beautiful and decently kept. There seemed to be plenty of parking available! read more

This is a really nice park. Very well maintained. My husband plays ball out here every week and the fields are always well manicured and well lit! As far as the dog park, this is another great place to take your little pooch to socialize with other little pooches and their owners. The dog park is broken up into two sections. One section for the smaller dogs and another for the larger ones. The area is mostly if not all grass with a couple of red fire hydrants in each area - How cute?? As for shade, there's not a whole lot of trees and as for seats, there's only a couple of park benches and I believe one or two cement picnic tables. Dog owners here are friendly and loves to socialize just as much as their little pooches! If there's not a ball game going on, there's plenty of parking in the lot. If there is a game, you'll have to park in the street and do a little bit of walking. Haven't been to the trail behind the dog park, yet, but sure does look nice! read more

We love this park! It is a community park but my favorite part is the dog park! There are two gated sides for dogs to play in depending on your dog size. The small dog side is flatter and smaller however, so if it's not that busy and if the dogs are well socialized, I bring Leia to the large dog half. She plays better and has more fun with the big boys! Or we utilize the space so that she can run further for her ball (usually when it's empty). Not super busy, real grass and dirt, a water fountain, benches and tables to sit. Consists mostly of family dogs and people are usually pretty friendly. Lots of spare balls to borrow if you're cool with that, we try to bring our own. My main gripe is that people haven't been picking up after their dogs lately which makes the whole lot unclean. They have trash bags every once in a while, use them! There are even trash cans and recycling cans inside BOTH parks, it's not that hard! read more

I honestly can't tell which trail I was on when I arrived to this park because there are different dirt break-off points to attempt the hike up the mountain. It is very rocky going up which is helpful but coming down is even more of a challenge. I took my children with me ages 9 and 11 years old but would not recommend it as a kid friendly trail. It was their first experience and too tough for them as beginners. Overall, we were able to reach a height level to experience a nice view but didn't make it to the flag post of rocks. I think, I would like to attempt this hike again on my own for a second attempt. read more

First time coming to this hiking trail and I have to say I'm in love with it! Such an amazing hike!!! Very unique and different from all the other ones I have been too! This hiking trail is such a great work out!! It was my husband sister brother in love and mom! We are usually into any type of new adventure but we loved this one! Let me start saying only one bad thing 1) it is very tricky!! Super easy to get lost! Very tricky! But I read some reviews before coming so I had an idea of what not to do lol! As soon as we arrived we did the right decision and we started from the sand part of the park not by the houses!!! We saw a few people so we asked someone just to be sure we were in the right track and yes we were! 2) it took us like 40 mins to reach the flag just because we stopped since it was our first time and we wanted to emit the view! But very amazing hike!!! The views are awesome!!!! 3) I love hard trails and this one was a little bit hard which I loved! When you start the hike there's a hill you have to do! Not going to lie it took my breath but it was all worth it! 4) it was cloudy so I couldn't really enjoy the lake view but it was still awesome!!! 5) wear good running shoes because it's very easy to fall down very slippery! 6) feels like you're in the desert but there's a path that takes you to the flag!!! 7) bring lots of water I'll definitely come back in a sunny day to enjoy the lake view!!!! read more

Great park, has two dog parks on the right when you enter, a kid playground, basketball, tennis court on the left. You can park your car in here and hit the trails. The trails here can lead you two to points in the area. Just in the summer time be careful for snakes, bring a walking stick for this season. Also be respectful and pick up your dogs there plenty of trash cans at the park to waste your Pets waste. Also just as a heads up if you see mtn bikers on the trail do not wear ear buds as you will not hear them going down the hill. You don't want to have a person vs cycle and fall down a hill. There is a maintenance dirt road that's great for cross country training, be sure to bring enough water. read more

4 stars! For the dog park at least. This one is a lovely, quaint and low-key dog park on the outskirts of an upper-middle class neighborhood in Chula Vista. It's also near Montevalle, so it's nice that this is here as an alternative. Because this park is a bit out of the way, it only experiences some traffic and the owners and dogs who do come out seem to be regulars. I found this to be a problem initially because the dogs exhibited a pack mentality and weren't exactly welcoming to my dog entering into their group. Oh well, you just gotta be the roost to your nest and protect your dog from the bullies. Everyone got along after that. Problem solved! This park is one of the few around that is very well-maintained. The grass is lush (no dirt!), fences are secure (for the most part), there are plenty of benches around, the drinking fountain is fully functional (not clogged), and poop bags are provided. There were even red fire hydrant fixtures scattered around which I find super cute. There are TWO sides - one for big dogs and another for small. The fence between the two even contains a gate that way you have the freedom to open it up and give your dog more space to run around in (so long as no one else is around). Some negatives I noticed about the place included the following: (1) Fence height. While my dog certainly is no billy goat, it's very possible for another dog to escape along some parts of the fence particularly where benches are situated. One husky was curious about us standing just outside the small dog park area and climbed onto the bench near the fence. He wasn't athletic enough, but another dog surely could have been capable of jumping over! (2) The large dog park contained a large sloped area. For the most part, dogs congregated around the flat part and didn't really utilize this area much. I guess the large dogs got the short end of the stick because the small dog area is mostly flat. (3) Difficult gates. They aren't the easiest to operate since you have to lift the pole out from the hole and maintain a hold on it to get it all the way open. In this situation, it's very easy for a dog to escape. Despite some flaws, this dog park is still great. For the most part, I come to the dog park only briefly then proceed to search out some of the trails nearby. The Rock House Trail is just behind the park and is definitely a challenge, but it will get you and your furkid huffing and puffing. You'll have one tired dog afterwards for sure! read more

This review is for the DOG PARK only. There is a clear difference between the dog park and people park, in my opinion. The people park is well-maintained and spacious. Let's start off with what I DID like: 1) There are two separate dog areas. The one to the left is for dogs 21 lbs. and over and to the right, for 20 lbs. and under. 2) The park is in a somewhat secluded area in a nice neighborhood, away from cars. 3) There are two clean picnic tables, as well as two benches, which are away from the majority of the dog traffic, but close enough to be able to monitor your dog's activity. 4) Both dog parks are clearly marked as non-smoking areas. Now, onto what I DID NOT like: 1) It wasn't readily apparent which area was for the small dogs and which was for the big dogs, unless you read the signs that said '21 lbs. and over' or '20 lbs. and under'. When I arrived, three small dogs were in the Large Dog area and only one small one in the Small Dog area. 2) Luckily, I came prepared with my own dog waste bags, as there weren't any available for public use, which most dog parks provide these days. There were about eight piles of poop that weren't picked up, although there was a pooper scooper available for anyone to use. 3) The entrance and exit doors to the two-gated system, before entering the Large Dog area, are difficult to open and close. So, other dogs ended up in the area together unintentionally. 4) A majority of the Large Dog park was at a slant, not flat. Most dogs hung out in the flat area, which made the slanted area seem like it was wasted space. 5) My biggest dislike is that there's not much shade. My dog spent most of the time laying underneath a picnic bench, trying to escape from the heat. Although there were some small trees, they were few and far between, not providing enough shade for our beloved pets. I will give this place another try though. For now, we're heading to the dog park at Montevalle Park to see if we have better luck there. read more

This park is wonderful. The dog park is fenced and huge! There's even a gate to separate the 2 sections of park if you want your smaller dogs to be away from the bigger dogs. It's in a beautiful area, secluded and away from traffic. Pretty high up on San Miguel mt. So you get a nice breeze. When the dogs have energy, this is where I take them. This park is beautiful! It has an amazing view and the park itself is so well maintained. There were so many people here when I visited on Sunday 5/14. Some were playing softball and soccer on the field, walking around the park, taking advantage of the playground, and there was still enough room for 2 different parties and a bounce house to enjoy all the space and not bother each other. I guess my only critique is that it is so darn far away! It seems like its located in its own little corner of the universe. I wish I lived closer to this because I could walk here every day. Also, there is so much space for parking! It has a large lot plus street parking available. Like I said, there was a ton of people at the park, but I had no issue finding parking nearby my party. read more

Mother Miguel was a blast. Not only did we thoroughly enjoy the quality time, but our dogs also had a great time with each other. This is definitely a great hike for a late afternoon / early evening to catch the sun setting over San Diego. It's not too difficult for small dogs either.
