This place looks like a small convenience store from the outside, but it's really almost like three stores in one. The first mini store is a small space that serves up sushi and poke dishes. The second mini store is an area that sells a variety of hot dishes, almost like a mini buffet. Last, but not least, the rest of the store is an area that displays a variety of waters, soda, energy drinks, beer, wine and spirits. It's kind of like a jack of all trades. I tried out a poke dish. I'm not an expert so I asked the woman working behind to counter to make it like she would eat it. She did, indeed. The dish was tasty, filling and cost about $13. I'm not from the area, so unfortunately I'm not able to make this venue a regular stop however I'm glad I came across it during my visit. It hit the spot. read more

Now it's not someplace you'd drive out of the way for, and give up any notion of finding proximal parking, but you surely could do worse for a lunch or casual dinner in the Dupont Circle area. Very varied menu of sandwiches (hot and cold) including fairly imaginative ones. The kitchen does not skimp and particularly for DC, what is served is fresh and of good value. Cafe isn't an appropriate name for this place. It's more like a quick stop market. Anything from breakfast to a hot food bar to a variety of snacks and beverages. The Orange Spoon Cafe is a nice break from $14 salads and Starbucks. I've only tried the hot sandwiches here. It's been a while so I can't quite remember which ones. However, I do remember feeling like my sandwich wasn't overpriced but just wasn't priced correctly. Decent sandwich but I could get higher quality from Potbelly. So many selections!! This place is a couple of minutes away from my work so I come here often. What I love the most about this place are their hours- their lunch buffet ends at 4:30 which is almost never heard of at other places. It's a pretty open space and I've never had an issue finding a table to sit down and eat here. They have great international lunch buffet and salad selections. Everything I've tried so far from here- plantains, lo mein, sushi, orange chicken, pasta, salads, all have been great. When you go in early enough, you are able to get fresh batch of sushi...yumm! I feel kind of bad giving this place only two stars, because I've enjoyed everything I've bought there, and the cashier is always nice. I have gotten one hot sandwich there and one quesadilla..both were pretty good! So, the reason I'm rating this 2 stars is because I saw with my own eyes the lady cooking the food would periodically pick up her cell phone, text someone, then touch the food again with her hands (like cut up vegetables), then touch her phone...LOTS of cross-contamination risk here. It kind of grossed me out. The whole point of wearing gloves is that you're only touching the food with it. A friend of mine also told me that she got food poisoning from there twice. They really need to be more careful.. it's too bad because they have a good food selection! read more

Didn't love it/didn't hate it. I stopped here later in the evening to grab a bite to eat. The buffet had been packed up and put away so I resorted to ordering at the counter. I got myself a chicken burrito. It was not memorable. They had a large selection and variety of options which gives me hope that there are better options. Super cool that they sell booze! One aside, as I approached the building the staff member was puffing a cigarette right in the doorway. The outer most door was open, leaving to smoke to pool in the easement. Nasty. read more

Found this place while looking for a different place to eat in the area. Not too bad. I've been here several times during lunch and breakfast. The sandwiches are....well....I was satisfied. But they aren't anything real special. This place offers a breakfast, and then later a lunch, buffet which they charge $6.99 per pound. The pound weighs up quick. I got a standard breakfast from the Buffett (eggs, bacon sausage, potatoes and a biscuit) and perhaps I was a bit over zealous because my breakfast was over double the cost per pound. My breakfast ended up being pretty damn expensive for what it was. They charged me for over 2 pounds while the weight on the scale said 1.93lbs. Lesson learned here....never again. The lunch buffet offered a mix of Chinese and American and the choices were......ok, I guess. Recommend you get a fresh made breakfast or lunch, or sandwich as it will be cheaper. The place has a huge selection of alcohol....more than half the place is a liquor store. On several occasions I noticed many people, during lunch, were getting just French fries, which I thought odd (maybe cheaper? Not sure). Edited review to include one more star, two isn't very fair considering I've been mostly satisfied with this place. If you live or work in the West End, this place is very likely your go to on hungover mornings for a bacon, egg & cheese or Western Omelet or that place you go a snackin' when you know you shouldn't for the $5 mystery box buffet leftovers after 4pm! Orange spoon is exactly what you'd expect from a neighborhood cafeteria/deli but as others have mentioned, offers booze -- from wine & beer to the hard stuff! It's a great place to duck in if working late or playing office poker (that's what we always do!) the staff is friendly and remembers your order if you're a regular. The food overall is pretty meh and kind of expensive ($10 wraps with no sides or drink) but honestly, they're quick, efficient and wayyyyyyyy more carb friendly than sweetgreen around the corner. My review is towards the service, and not the food: I frequent this place for lunch about once a week, usually for the salad bar. Since the grilled chicken at the salad bar is pretty cold, I'll request the kitchen to grill some chopped chicken to throw on top of my salad. I strolled in today and made my usual request, only to be told by one of the women working in the kitchen that I "need to make sure to pay for the chicken" on my salad. When I responded with "sure, of course", she eyeballed me and said "you left last time without paying for the chicken, you cannot do that and have to pay" [insert angry tone/mocking look]. SERIOUSLY?! I honestly cannot believe she ACCUSED me of stealing? I told her I had paid every single time, and had no intention of stealing from this shop. No apology from her, whatsoever. I have never seen this kind of treatment before- heck if she wanted to confirm if I've been paying every time I came there, she could easily just talk to the guy at the register. I have never been this humiliated and angry before. I will NEVER come to this place again, and will be sure to let EVERYONE within my office know about this treatment. I'd give them four stars under normal circumstances. However, after the Embassy Suites offered up that they have no room service and guests aren't allowed to take food from the restaurant back to their rooms, coupled with the only restaurant in the area having a 45 minute wait, the ladies at the Orange Spoon went above and beyond. Although they close their grilles at 8:00 p.m., they took pity on the story about how Embassy Suites doesn't offer room service at their $500 a night hotel, and don't allow for food from their restaurant, to be taken back to guest rooms. The ladies at the Orange Spoon fired up their grill and cooked up a delicious burrito and bacon/turkey sandwich. They were wonderfully nice, and very sweet. Pleasantly surprised... no wait... THRILLED beyond belief that I was able to get such a great sandwich at this place. Typically, I am a fan of original philly from Philly and the surrounding areas OR Italian made cheesesteaks/grinders from my friends in New England, but today... This place is very cafeteria like, it has a cold section, hot section and a station where they prepare sandwiches/burritos/burgers. They also sell a wide range of chips and drinks, stuff that you wont be able to find at a regular groceries store. It takes me 5 minutes to pick my chips and drink. The service is very fast and the price is very reasonable. The reason i gave it 4 stars is because the tables are usually dirty even though i go at 2pm, after peak hours. They're Open!!! I have been stalking, I mean, eyeballing this place. The past owners offered the same style of shop so I was very happy to learn it will remain in the same category. We have a major shortage in places around here at work that are sandwich bars/buffets. It's larger than I expected. I don't remember the space being that large inside. The prices are a bit more on the expensive side. The weigh food is a whopping $7.99 per/lb. Even that is expensive for this area if you ask me. The breakfast options are relatively inexpensive. What is going to keep folks coming despite of the prices is the variety. They have a great selection of semi healthy sandwiches and drink choices like the Naked's, Aloe Vera water, etc. You know how you just go overboard because you want to try everything? Well that was me. I grabbed me an aloe vera water. Ecstatic to see these because I can't find them everywhere. Now hold on to your seat for this one. They had, wait for it, wait a little more, fried plantain. I have NEVER EVER seen fried plantain on a hot bar. They were cooked perfectly. I thought I was in the island's in Jamaica!!! I don't usually eat off "hot bars" but hey I was like the second person there. What could really go wrong that fast? Don't answer that. While I'm happily piling plantain in the container I wait while they fix my Veggie Burrito. Reasonably priced at $3.59, it was pretty good. It wasn't too big and I didn't feel like I got robbed. After paying a little of $8 for my food, I left with a smile on my face. Not because the sun was shining but because order has been restored to the area. Baseball is on so I have time to write a review of a place I eat at at least 5 times a month. It's convenient for work lunches, but affordability, service, and food quality are enough for me to give this place a "perfect" score. The service at the deli-counter is great. The ladies and gents that do up the above average sandwiches (steak and cheese, gyro, Reuben, club are my go-tos) turn an order around in 3-4 minutes just about every time. The fries are a 8/10 and you won't go hungry with the portion sizes that come with the "specials." I don't hit the lunch buffet that often, mostly bc the sandwiches are a buck or two cheaper, but when I have, I usually get the fish with some mashed potatoes to go with. It's fresh and seasoned quite well, so can't complain. The soups are great for cold days. I usually grab a large chili or chicken noodle for $3.50 (with up to 3! packs of frackers for free). The salad bar is a average, about as exciting as boring veggies can get. read more

This place wasn't at all what I expected from a deli, but that's definitely a good thing. It is very open and spacious, so you wont feel like you're climbing all over other people to get around. The a la carte deli is as soon as you walk in, and it has a wide range of options. I recommend the classic Italian and the chicken quesadilla. Further to the back are the buffet stations, which include a hot bar and a salad bar. The hot bar menu changes daily, but they have it posted for you in case you want to plan your visits around it. The salad bar is pretty good, too. The most pleasant surprise is the alcohol section. You can get wine, beer, and hard liquor here. It's so convenient! Thbonly catch is that you cannot consume your alcohol purchases in the restaurant. The service was pretty standard. They keep the place clean and are pretty friendly. It also didnt take forever to get the a la carte items. And if you fancy sticking around, there's a seating area with free wiring for you. Orange Spoon is definitely worth checking out! read more

If you are working nearby, this is a good lunch place to have in your weekly rotation. That have a good diverse menu of foods made-to-order, some prepackaged things if you are in a rush, and then a hot bar/salad bar for days when you cannot decide what to eat and want to eat everything and nothing. The hot bar changes daily and ranges from tacos to fried wings to pasta and orange chicken. Very diversified and pretty tasty. One of my favorites is their Mac and Cheese, but I never know when to expect it. They do have a calendar on the wall but I don't remember and am most times disappointed. The hot bar/salad bar can get pricey so I recommend ordering from the counter. The French fries are fresh and crispy. I like the grilled cheese when I am in a nostalgic mood. This is not a restaurant/sit down kind of place. It is a pop in, grab something pre-made that's much better quality than you would otherwise find, or order something hot from the grill to go that's cheaper than anywhere else and is still really tasty. Mr. Kim, the owner, is also really friendly and nice. They also do a mean breakfast/lunch buffet that has excellent diversity and very decent food. My fav: try the OS burrito. What will make this place over the top amazing for the location: Mr. Kim said he is working on moving in grocery items including BEER and WINE and plans to be open until 9 or 10 at night. There is literally NOWHERE you can buy beer with 5 or 6 blocks of here, and couple that with fancy-schmancy bags of chips, candies and fun bottled drinks, this place would be out-of-this-world. read more

It was really cool walking by this place almost everyday to-and-from work an watching it develop to a really nice restaurant. I had the pleasure of getting a sandwich there for dinner. I caught them as they were closing up for the evening, but they happily served me. I must've caught them right as they turned off their grill top because my hot sandwich was served cold...HOWEVER, the sandwich was delicious! I love the variety of potato AND soy chips. I just visited this cafe after a time I would normally go and surprised to find that they had and were throwing away food from the hot bar and salad bar! The owner who was st the register said she took over this business from prior owner and didn't change the hours so shown on the website, they have a sign out front, and google for their hours. This lady was a liar and and expended effort yo patronize the business! During lunch is usually when I go and they have good food but to outright lie to customers and not have any hot food available until their posted closed hours is dishonest. This place is hella convenient. If you're trolling for lunch, not really sure what you want but trying to stir up something, go here. There are so many options between the hot bar, the sandwiches, the soup and the beverages and desserts. You'll find something. It's kinda like the 'Epicurean' of Foggy Bottom. The food is standard. I had lobster bisque, which was a tad bit sweet the way i like it. Small size was still a lot, and under $3. I also had the Smithsonian panini which was good and I struggled to finish it. We came here for lunch during a break from the conference I am attending this week because it's near the hotel. The woman who took my order at the grill was so rude! I notices the photos had fries with the sandwiches, so I asked if they all came with fries? She yelled at me the only sandwich that came with fries is the daily special. I didn't see that listed anywhere. So I requested the eggplant sandwich, to which she yelled they don't have that anymore! Um, ok, but why is it still on the menu then? Whatever. We were in the area and I honestly went in just to use the ATM (which by the way you can only take out a max of $40). As I was inside I saw the big Boars Head sign to which I have a proclivity. I got a turkey on rye and a ham and cheese on white to go. They sandwiches were huge and were ready in very little time. The lady at the checkout counter was friendly and helpful. The entire place was very clean and very well stocked. They sell beer, wine, and hard liquor here as well.
