Our soup club came here and we were not disappointed. After getting to taste a little of each soup, the mushroom soup was my favorite and I got to pair with a delicious gluten free grilled cheese sandwich. Service was a little slow, but the food definitely made up for it. Would recommend and cannot wait to go again.

Went for brunch and everything was good! The French toast is sweet and dense id recommend sharing It and getting a savory dish. The servers were knowledgeable and friendly. Seating outside was nice.

I've been wanting to try this place for a while and I decided to stop by on my way home from running errands. The restaurant is small but there's plenty of seating both inside and outside. It's very colorful and kind of resembles a small market. I had the fish soup, to go. It was absolutely delicious. It comes in a creamy broth or a clear broth. I ordered the clear and it was so flavorful . Packed with potatoes, salmon and cod, I wish I ordered more. I'll definitely be back to try some other items on the menu.

This place was such a charming and cute brunch spot. Drinks are delicious and service is great! We sat outside which was super pleasant. The food is decent- I got the salmon sandwich, which was good but not as flavorful as I was hoping. Next time I def want to try the salmon Benedict which my sister got and loved. They also have a variety of fun candy inside to purchase!

    Nordic Old fashion

We had an incredible experience at Mikko. We started with the Nordic Old fashions, which were amazing. We shared the mushroom soup and the potato fondant, which can only be described as savory decadence. For our main course, we shared the hearty lamb and cabbage stew and it was hands down the best meal I've had in DC to date. Every bite was exceptional. The service was outstanding from start to finish. You absolutely need to eat here!!

It's embarrassing how many times we've walked by this restaurant, thinking we should "check it out sometime." Today we finally did! Brunch was really tasty with quick, friendly service, and great vibes. I got the Swedish pancakes with a mimosa and my partner got the salmon eggs Benedict with a more traditional cocktail. Everything was great! It's also clearly a great neighborhood hang with affordable prices and a casual setting. We'll definitely be back regularly!

Eating here feels like getting a warm hug from a Finnish grandma you never knew you had, and never knew you needed. Mikko is an absolute MUST on cold days and evenings. Order a soup with grilled cheese. It's only $20 and it's a full meal and like all traditional soups, it's served at near boiling temps which is the way it's supposed to be! It's meant to be enjoyed slowly, over conversation, and will make you feel cozy from the first sip. I had the fish soup. Hype is real. Pirjo (rhymes with "Cheerio") is a gem and must be protected! She gave me some Finnish post cards on the house because I knew how to curse in Finnish! Yijit ("yeet") was a fantastic server and has a lot of fun stories about DC to tell if you ask. Danish, Swedish, and Norwegian food are all kinda the same. Good, to be sure, but very similar. Finnish comfort food just hits different. I'll be back!

Very good food and drinks! The traditional fish soup was delicious and had huge chunks of fish in it. The French toast was amazing and the perfect portion so you didn't feel like you had eaten a whole loaf of bread. And the Smoked Salmon Benedict gave you soo much Salmon, you definitely feel like you got your moneys worth, and then some. I also loved my hot toddy, it was the perfect drink for the freezing temps outside. Heads up that the inside is a bit small but they do have seating there. They also have seating outside in a heated space!

An OK restaurant but overpriced and not the most selections for delivery. My friend and I recently ordered a weeknight dinner takeout from Mikko on DoorDash. We wanted to order from the dinner menu but we were told it was unavailable during the week-we were only able to order from the all-day menu. This menu misses some very good-looking dishes such as the soups, rostis, lamb, and pastas. My friend and I each ordered the gravlax open-faced sandwiches. While there was a generous amount of lox, the sandwiches were very small. The sandwiches were fine, although the lox was very salty and there was nothing to balance out the salt.

What can I say? This restaurant is absolutely adorable and the food is exceptional. There's limited seating inside but it was nice enough out that some groups dined outside. In addition to the Nordic cuisine on the menu, they also sell European sweets. Everything was tempting but I got the chicken schnitzel. My husband got beef and a side of mushroom soup. The soup was comforting and perfect for a chilly evening. My schnitzel was tasty and I hope to return to try one of the many fish dishes. The cocktails are unique but don't go for an Aquavit one unless you like the flavor of it. My husband didn't love his second cocktail but that was his own fault for getting something he might not like. I enjoyed both of my cocktails, one of which had pickle juice in it. You wouldn't think that all of the flavors would work together, but they do. This restaurant is a gem and I definitely want to return and recommend it to everyone I know

Ate here on a calm warm Sunday evening with spouse and grown daughter, on her recommendation. Nordic/Danish food, reminiscent of when we visited her during her semester abroad in Copenhagen! Limited nice menu, good selection of delicious choices. All of us got traditional fish soup, the two ladies got the cream version and grilled cheese on the side. I got the clear version and an order of potato rosti with mushrooms. All Delicious, good service. Cute place, we sat in semi-enclosed area on sidewalk. Definitely recommended! ,

I have never had Scandinavian food before, so Mikko's been on my list to try. My friend and I made a reservation for dinner yesterday. The interior is a bit small (a few 2-seaters and some bar seats). They also do happy hour every day from 4-7 PM, so this doesn't only apply to alcoholic drinks but also includes soups, too! TRADITIONAL FISH SOUP (WITH CLEAR BROTH) - 11 Normally it's 14, but the HH pricing was 11. Also, +5 for grilled cheese. The bowl was pretty big (larger than 16 oz. portion, I think) and filled with salmon. I was surprised by the amount of salmon in here, which was tender and not overly fishy. The clear broth was light and well-seasoned with herbs, definitely very comforting and perfect for a chilly October evening. There was also a good amount of potatoes, onions, carrots, and celery in here. This was good and I'd recommend. The grilled cheese had some thin rye bread that hit the spot and filled me up. It's not anything crazy and very much something you can make at home. My friend got the crawfish soup, which she enjoyed. I've heard good things about their brunch, so I'll have to return one day. Their other dinner options also look good, so I will try a small plate or bigger dinner plate next time.

There is something so comforting about Mikko: the mushroom soup was excellent, and this simple meal was so filling. Everyone who works there is so sweet. Great, easy spot

Most of the food at Marcus was delicious, but a couple dishes could use some tweaks, service was…read moreonly okay, and the dessert course was a letdown. It's well worth a visit and has 5-star potential. I visited on a Saturday with a group of four at 6:30 PM; prime time. The place was busy but not full, especially not the bar, which was empty most of the time (maybe start happy hour?). We were seated on one side of a very long, very solid wood table. It reminded me of that movie trope where two people try to have a conversation from opposite ends of a huge table. Fortunately, we were all seated together. The opposite end was used for another group, much later on. We kept wondering who would arrive and be our sort-of dinner companions. First, a round of cocktails. The Brown Butter Soul ($16) was a standard whiskey sour; it didn't look or taste like its name, or bring anything new to the table, so it was a disappointment. It also looked identical to the Solara ($17), except for the latter's tomato garnish. The Abyssinian Blaze ($17), on the other hand, was like a negroni but with berbere spice on the back, giving it a novel taste. I'd order that one again. Everything on the menu sounded great. We knew we had to get the cornbread and the crab rice, but other things were TBD. The Blue Cornbread ($12 for two pieces) was excellent -- an attractive brown color outside, a grey-blue inside, texture moist but not crumbly, and most of all delicious with the yassa butter accompaniment. Yassa (a West African dish prepared with onions, lemon or mustard) was a new flavor for me, and it was great. The Steak Tartare ($23) was one of the better interpretations I've had recently. It was a surprisingly colorful dish, for a tartare, thanks to tiny, pure white mushrooms, dark red onion jam, yellow egg yolk, and orange spices in the steak. The brown bread that came with it was also great. We all enjoyed the restaurant's riff on an everything bagel + lox, the Smoked Fish Pate ($23). It was another colorful dish, well presented, if a fairly traditional take. The everything lavash was fun and tasty. Another seafood dish was Tuna Crudo ($25, ~5 pieces of fish). It was good but not too different from other crudos. It came with slices of kiwi, but only three to go with the five slices of fish. While the main dish was an attractive mix of red and green, the dark yellow sauce on the side of the bowl was a bit off putting. The Cuttlefish Tortelloni ($40, 5 tortelloni) was great with its lobster emulsion. You could have put any filling inside and it would have been good. The Crispy Sweet Potato ($13) with some creme fraiche and roe was good, but only interesting if you got everything together. The ratios were a bit off -- too much potato -- so that when you are passing it around your group, it's too easy to not get enough toppings. Finally, the Crab Rice ($68) with mushroom, pickled alligator pear, and uni bearnaise. We were divided on this dish. Some people loved it, others did not; all the components blended together into a single flavor, which I liked, but I also found very acidic and one-note. The acidic flavors paired well with the sweet potato side dish. I couldn't taste any crab or individual ingredients. It felt more like a tasty side dish than a main course. I would eat it again, but I would want a different protein that stands out more. Our dessert course started off on a confusing and disappointing note. A few days before, the Marcus Instagram account posted about a "Mumbo Sauce Salted Caramel Ice Cream" which was featured in a Food & Wine magazine article. Guess what? It's not available. In fact, our server had never heard of it. We had to show them the Instagram post to convince them to ask the kitchen about it; they didn't have it. Why are you advertising something on your Insta (and getting national media attention) for something you don't have? C'mon. Dessert brought the Strawberry Breton and Buttermilk Tart ($15 each). The breton was not good, and I would not have identified it as a breton. The pastry was dense and too thick. The strawberry sauce was the main flavor. The net result tasted like a strawberry Pop-Tart, so it tasted good enough, but wasn't appropriate for a $15 restaurant dessert. The Buttermilk Tart was a very good rendition, although the green tomato sorbet didn't taste as interesting as it sounded. This ended up being a lot of food for four people, so we had about half of the crab rice and some of the potato left over. The check came with four tiny house-made gummy fish -- their take on Swedish fish. This was a sweet note, but not enough to make up for the previous dessert disappointments.

Wait... IKEA sells FURNITURE?!…read more Just kidding. But, I swear we come here for the restaurant more than the housewares these days! IKEA is known for lower cost DIY chairs and bookcases, but their in-store restaurant is not to be a missed. A destination in and of itself! Granted the prices have gone up significantly over the years (remember when a plate of meatballs was just five bucks, including the sides?!), but one has to make allowances for inflation of course. What I appreciated was that they now have multiple options for how large of a plate you want. They have different pricing for the number of meatballs you order. And they have a wider selection of items than ever before as well. I could drink my weight in lingonberry juice though, and no other place has it! That's the novelty that keeps me coming back. Their staff is usually friendly and helpful. Tables are self-bused, but it's a small task for a reasonably priced meal. For less than 10 bucks a person, it's still one of the best values in the area. Plus, the quality is almost always top notch. Well worth the stop, even if you don't need furniture!

If my high school had been running this operation, I might have actually attended lunch instead of my daily ritual of despair and vending machine chips before AP Calculus. Solid soups. Texas toast that respects itself. A rotating cast of cold and warm dishes that -- brace yourself -- includes responsibly sourced seafood. In a place where you also buy flat-pack bookshelves. ONLINE ORDER AND DELIVERY: I may have officially entered my "organized chaos but make it stylish"…read moreera, thanks to my recent delivery of 8 FRAKTA shopping and storage bags and 6 GÖRSNYGG shopping bags from IKEA. Let me just say... these bags are the unsung heroes of my life. The FRAKTA bags? Absolute workhorses. I use them in my office to haul giant bulk mail cartons to the postal center like I'm some sort of efficiency ninja. They swallow boxes whole and still have room to spare. I've also loaded them up with bulky art supplies, event materials, and let's be honest, the occasional "how did I accumulate this much stuff?" pile. They never judge. They just carry. The GÖRSNYGG bags are my go-to for grandkid gifting missions. Trips filled with IKEA treasures and surprise presents are now way easier and way more cheerful. They're sturdy, practical, and somehow make me feel wildly put together. As much as I love wandering the store (because who doesn't?), the online shopping experience was easy peasy. Smooth checkout, quick delivery, and everything arrived perfectly. Zero drama. Maximum satisfaction. Who knew bags could spark this much joy? Five stars from this very happy, very well-equipped customer! Thank you, Andy!

Absolute worst delivery experience I've had so far…read more My IKEA delivery was originally scheduled for May 17. RXO failed the delivery despite my building having 24/7 concierge service available to receive packages. After contacting IKEA customer service, I was told delivery would happen the next day. I took time off work and waited -- nobody showed up. After multiple calls back and forth between IKEA and RXO, I finally got the failed delivery rescheduled and was given a delivery window of May 22-26. I checked again and the date had disappeared. When I called RXO, I was told delivery is now scheduled for May 27. I had already scheduled furniture assembly for May 22 and had to cancel and reschedule it for May 28, creating additional inconvenience. At this point the issue is not just delay -- it's the repeated schedule changes, lack of reliability, and complete disregard for customers' time. If this delivery fails again, I will cancel my order and take my business elsewhere.

Great place to get lunch! They have so many different food options--sandwiches, salads, soups,…read moreShakshuka, bowls, pastries, etc. The place is spacious inside with tons of seating--during weekday lunch it can get busy so you might need to wait a few minutes for a table or high top. You order your food first, then find seating. Food comes out fairly quick. Dishes I've tried and would recommend: Chicken Pita, Turkey BLAT, Spiced Shrimp & Avocado Mousse Salad, Chickpea & Fava Plate, Lamb Meatball & Labneh Shakshuka, and Short Rib Grilled Cheese Sandwich--there's so much I want to try but haven't yet! Their cookies are delicious too, my favorite is the Halva Chocolate Chunk Cookie.

A five-minute walk towards downtown from the Mayflower hotel made Tatte Bakery an ideal spot for breakfast. It also has nice views of Farragut Square. I went with the House Full breakfast that included Applewood bacon, eggs, potato fritters with tomato jam and mint parmasean, and house made sourdough. I was curious to try one of their best sellers - monkey bread, and it didn't disapoint. A solid breakfast with on point service before catching the metro to Virginia. I really enjoyed my visit here and would return in a heartbeat.
