Bullying is ignored by the school, period…read more They send out letters saying they take bullying seriously, they ask you to report incidents... when multiple people report on the same long term issue the school ignored it. They have no problem handing out detention or suspension for minor incidents like playing with water or tossing a marble, but when a child is called sexually inappropriate words over the course of months, no action is taken to address the root of the problem. We had multiple meetings with the administration including Mount Saint Mary's and the response was "sometimes children have to learn a hard life lesson that life isn't fair...." grade school children in a catholic school have to learn the lesson that people with the authority to address an issue will refuse to do so. That is shameful. An entire class of children realized the hypocrisy of the administration and lost all respect for them. The message to a group of girls was was we will not take action when you speak up and in this school you have no voice. The school either has no appetite to address serious situations or does not have the appropriate training to handle bullying. Education wise the school has slipped in the last 3-4 years. There are some excellent teachers in the school that care very much, but they can only do so much. The Middle school use to have 6 teachers, they now have 3 trying to teach the same curriculum with no TAs. The school will tell you in Middle School there are accelerated groups. They will tell you that they will prepare your child to take 9th grade regents. How can 1 teacher provide a curriculum to an accelerated group and a standard group during the same class? They teach the accelerated group and many days the other group is left in the back of the class to watch YouTube instructional videos. The school use to have a drama program and sports teams that competed against other schools. The drama program is gone and now there is only an intramural program that you have pay extra for. The coach is excellent, but again another example of the school cutting more and more over the years. That has been the standard over the last 3-4 years, the Mount charges you more and gives you less. The school is no where near what is was in the past. The Principal is very nice and the only true professional in the administration group. She is almost always willing to talk, but will not take action. It's unclear if she is unwilling to or is hamstrung by the Mount. The administration at the Mount is seemingly in control of the school, but is rarely seen. The school now resembles a poorly run business. They are concerned about profits (as they should be), but do not provide a good product. The administration has seemingly forgotten this is a school, a school that lost a focus on community, a place that ignores good families, a school that readily punishes children rather than building them up (again how much can you expect 1 teacher to do) a school that ignores bullying, a school that will either yes you to death or clap back at you rather than working to fix problems. As I read other negative reviews posted years ago on this site, I realize very little has changed over that time with regards to bullying. We have had many good years with this school, but not the last 3-4 and based on a recent experience with bullying I am now disgusted.
