I decided to try someplace different and book at OVH when coming back to SF. Usually stay at Music City Hotel nearby but wanted to be closer to the BART station this time around. Glad I took the chance! There seems to be many complaints from other visitors but my stay turned out fine. Stayed in a 4 bed male dorm: bed was comfy, pillow too thick for my liking, the sheets were extremely clean (felt brand new or they must of had professional laundry cleaners), loved the privacy shield on each bed, lockers were big enough for backpacks, ample lockable storage under the bed, had in-room bathroom and closet w/ hangers. The free daily breakfast was great! Plenty of options (cereal, waffles, juice, milk, coffee, tea, yogurt, fruit, toast, etc). Ample seating area with TV. Kitchen had all the cooking tools/amenities. Laundry room, common area, and they have an elevator! Plenty of bathrooms on each floor with signs/mirrors, hot water and toilet paper stocked. The location would scare some people as it is in the Tenderloin. You will see many homeless, drug addicts, mentally unstable people of all sorts. But I wasn't bothered by it, I'm a male and I felt safe at all hours of the day walking around, just pay attention and mind your own business and they'll leave you alone. Be warned that it gets really LOUD during all hours of the day. You're in the city and it got really hard to sleep at night due to all the noise (people yelling, car horns honking, police/fire sirens, garbage trucks clanging, etc). Tried closing the windows to block out the noise but then it got too hot as there's no AC in the rooms. So be sure to grab free ear plugs that they provide. It's not the hostel's fault for the noise, they have no control over that, so it doesn't warrant a docked star off the rating. Lastly and most importantly, the STAFF here are GREAT! From check-in and check-out, every single one of the staff here were sooo nice, helpful and kind. Great customer service with no attitude. One staff upgraded my friend so we can be in the same room, another staff didn't charge me for a big towel rental, another staff fixed my key card issue, etc. etc. I must of bothered them with a hundred different requests throughout my 3-day stay here and each time was met with great service and didn't make it seem like I was bothering them at all. I was genuinely so impressed, considering how many people they deal with every day. The bed prices were great and cheaper, especially if you use a promo code. I loved their staff/service, and just for that reason alone, I will stay at OVH over Music City Hostel the next time I come back to SF! read more

I've stayed here a couple of times over the years, and will probably stay here again due to its proximity to Moscone Center. One thing to know is the shared bathrooms don't have outlets. I found that inconvenient when wanting to do my hair and not disturb my bunk mates at the same time. There's also not an ice machine in the kitchen. I've been coming here a few times in the last 4 years! usually a good stay, I will give it the benefit of the doubt. but tonight pissed me off, I came to room with my clothes missing , a full bag of clothes gone. I addressed the front desk and they were zero help. I also renewed my stay the same day to a rude front desk person! I miss sf and coming here but experiences like these make me question why to travel here ever ! Coming from California from Vancouver to find some work and handle some government business, I stay at other hostels and they were ok and had some problems. The one feature I'd love about the hostel was the TV, years ago there was no TV now there is, and there is always K-pop on the TV "I'm pleased about that." The room that I'd stay in was #321 was a bit small but then again, due to COVID-19 but I was in the room by myself the entire time. Now, this is my thirds time staying here. About 9 years ago, my Wife Yuuki and I stay here and at that time we didn't like it when we first came to San Francisco. I'm a French native and American, (dual citizen) and Yuuki is from Japan but we worked here and play in the states but back to the present, About 8 days before I said here for 3 days and it was good. I wasn't able to sleep the first two nights, well due to the homeless activates outside. Yes, there is a Homeless present in the neighborhood but I ran into a few problems. "I was raised in japan so, hospitality services is so different from another part of the world. There is a security deposit for room stays so please remind yourself. Due to COVID the lounge area that we do not see in my photos was not accessible but Kitchen was open and everything was available for us to cook inside without buying takeout all the time. "Good idea" but it was 4 people at a time in the kitchen. Laundry was cheap and the cheapest out of all the hostels I did stay in San Francisco since I been here. $2.25 - 2.50 to wash and to dry it's $0.25 "amazing" Some people thought I was moving in because I have a custom wagon to transport all my camera gear. "Haha," I thought that was funny, never hear someone moving into a hostel" The only time I raise an eyebrow was the fridge and how guest places their belongings and there isn't a place to put anything inside. I was forced to eat out half the time or eat once a day. There was no space in the fridge for my groceries. It's not the staff's fault here, but the guest needs to be open-minded about others in the hostel. The front door is always locked and you will be let in with a ring after confirming your stay. Most of the staff have a good idea who has check-in, so if you do not say hello to the other staff, they will not remember you. Be nice and say hello to them so they can remember if you do decide to step out. Showers are on each floor and I'd three showers and four toilets and an elevator. I would stay here again but I am not sure, I want to visit as many places as I can and in the Last 11 months, I have done so. This is a hostel I would recommend to you. P.S do not use the free soap on color clothing, what happened was I had a Wisconsin white tee and some colors the power soap fade my colors and got on my white tee. be aware of this. If you're expecting a hotel room, you're staying at the wrong place . My boyfriend and I stayed in a private double bed room with our own bathroom. It was a great experience except for one thing, the mystery puddles. My boyfriend joked that my review should be titled ,"Kristi and the room with mystery puddles". We had mystery puddles form near the toilet on one side early evening and disappeared in the morning. Two days prior to that, my boyfriend found a puddle under the bed near the bed legs but we never spilled water at any of those areas so they were strange . Other than that, our stay was awesome . Our room came with hangers, a closet, fridge, desk, chair, lamp, shampoo, conditioner, bar soap (this dried out my skin ), tv and drawers. We also had free wifi and access to a shared kitchen which had plates, pots, utensils, cups and a microwave. They have free pizza at 8 pm on Thursday in the communal kitchen. Check in is at 2 pm and if you're early, you can leave your bags their and come back but the last time to check in is at 11 pm. One thing about the bathroom is there is no sink, it's on the outside. Also, if you're tall like my boyfriend, you wouldn't want to close the bathroom door all the way or you'll be squished in the bathroom since it's super small. The shower is a stand in shower with very little room for another person. The TV would be another complaint , apparently the remote isn't programmed to the TV so there would be a pop up window saying we didn't configure it even though we did .It was really minor though . Now here's an authentic hostel experience. The place is dirty, the beds are made of processed bricks, the bathrooms HAVE NO SINKS, the rooms span the spectrum from dank to grimey, there's randomly no lockers, the staff seems to think they're running a 1920s flop house for migrant workers and the walls are covered with warnings about what will happen to you if you break any of their rules. The hostel is set on a street complete with a wide assortment of bums and sketchballs in flavors ranging from quiet desperation to screaming profanity. Want to walk down the street and patronize the local businesses (i.e. convenience and liquor stores)? Expect to be subjected to a wide variety of human misery. Like the socialize? Well, people at Orange Hostel don't! It's mostly Koreans who can't or won't speak English and seem surprised and scared at the prospect of white people speaking to them. Trying to sleep? Well, if you're in one of the street-side rooms, which are open to all kinds of late-night profanity and vomiting noises to make sure your dreams are pleasant. Fantastic stay here overall-only downer is that it's a tad pricey but that's typical of SF! The hotel is located in the Tenderloin and is very central, but it's a semi gritty neighborhood. We stayed in a private room with shared bath, the bathrooms were clean and the room was spotless as well. One odd thing about the bathrooms was that there was no sink to wash your hands, so everyone opened the lock with their dirty hands if they don't use the sanitizer. Wifi was fast and cable was provided, sinks in the room were good as well. No AC, so the afternoon temp is a bit warm but most people are out and about at that time anyway. read more

First of all, bonus point for saving my bum after my booking.com booking was cancelled last minute for technical glitch on their site. The hostel staff was nice enough to let me pay upon arrival and keep my space until then. On the entrance, the building looks really old and it's not very impressive. The lift doesn't always seem to operate. But the kitchen and lounge are very modern and cosy. Too cosy for some! I stayed there only one night and the 90 minutes I spent hanging around in common area in the evening I had too put up with the smell coming from the kitchen as some people would spend 2h cooking their dinners! I liked the breakfast. I love waffles, so for me it was a perfect start of the day. The rooms are OK, clean and relatively spacious. There are lockers, a sink with mirror and a little kind of wardrobe. But I didn't particularly like the plastic on the mattress. The hostel doesn't have a great vibe. I was hoping to go for a pub crawl advertising in the hostel, but I was the only one interested! It's cheap and well located. read more

I stayed here last minute during my stay in San Fransisco. It was moderately clean and comfortable. I stayed in a four person dorm room with three other random females. The bed was creaky and the pillow was lumpy. The room was very basic, with just beds, lockers, a small bathroom and a closet. They give you a sheet, pillow case, and a blanket. If you want to lock your stuff in the locker, bring your own lock. Downstairs they have a community room and a kitchen. Lots of people were cooking in the kitchen and the tv was on in the living area. People were mostly in their own groups but a few people were friendly and we talked, since I was alone staying there. The hostel is in the tenderloin district which is kind of sketchy. There are lots of homeless people and people who appear to be on drugs. I generally am pretty daring so I didn't feel unsafe. The streets were crowded enough with other people too so if someone attacked me, hopefully someone else would help haha. There are also tons of delicious Pakistani, Indian, and Arab food around the area in walking distance. I give it four stars because I paid $46 (and I got a deal on orbitz) for a bed and that is pricey for a hostel. But I did it because I prefer staying at a place with better reviews than a cheap place that has bed bugs. read more

I love this place! I got a private room with no notice for only $120 plus tax and it was awesome, great WiFi and lots of plug-ins. A very comfortable bed and Good TV services And an amazing continental breakfast in the kitchen with lots of choices..I had cheerios with milk, a slice of whole wheat bread with Nutella(!) and a banana! I heartily recommend this place if you can get a nice private room and if they're not full, which now unfortunately they are for Pride. But when its slow again give this place a try! read more

Turns out that the staff gave away his bed to me and when he got back late at night, he was forced to choose to sleep on the floor. I'm glad it didn't happen to me directly of course but it's alarming that the book-keeping going on here led to such an error. I've stayed in ~20 hostels in my time as a traveler and this was the first time experiencing such an event. read more

After spending the previous 2 days before getting here on a train I was just happy sleeping on an actual bed that didn't move and in a room where I didn't wake up at 4 in the morning to the sound of babies crying. This place requires that you be buzzed in to enter so there's always someone at the front desk. This is a good thing as this general area has a lot of homeless people around. I felt safer knowing that the front desk screens all the guests. Got checked in, got my key, got some linens. Was told about breakfast in the morning and that was pretty much all the interaction I had from the guys at the front desk until I left. I stayed in a 4 bed female dorm room on the fourth floor. Upon getting to my room naturally I made my bed and then turned on my computer as I remember when booking that this place has free wi-fi. Okay, I find out the long way that internet at Orange Village requires a user name and password. Back down stairs I go. You know, front desk guy you could have told me that the same time when you gave me the key and linens. Could have saved me an extra trip back to the lobby. The room itself was pretty clean. Surprising, I know. Another thing to note is that there's a sink in the room (would have been nice if there was soap) and the toilet was outside the room. I had to search for the showers myself. Good thing I'm astute, a different person would have thought this was something the front desk people would have mentioned as well. But no, this was another little nugget of information I had to figure out myself. You know what I did notice a lot of rules plastered everywhere on the first floor. Some telling you not to take hostel dishes back to your room. Another funky note about their drug policy. This one I read while waiting for the elevator. I already knew drugs was against the law but in no fewer than 3 paragraphs does the rule about no drugs get explained that they will prosecute to the fullest extent of the law anyone and everyone getting caught with drugs. All this made me think was that this place might have had issues with drugs in the past. And considering the neighborhood that wouldn't be a stretch. Now yes there were a lot of Koreans and they didn't really make much for conversation but I did chat with 2 other European residents during my stay this isn't the hostel's fault though. Breakfast is a popular spot to meet other guests as this place sports 2 waffle irons and after staying at La Quinta I am definitely a fan of the waffle iron. Overall this hostel provided the basics. A clean bed, safe atmosphere, a window that opens as 4 people in one room can generate a lot of body heat. For what I paid it was money well spent. read more

I had never stayed in a hostel before and I have to admit I was completely weirded out by sleeping in a room with three strangers. It turned out my strangers were perfectly nice Australians. The room was clean and the bed was quite comfy. The bathroom was TINY with the sink outside the bathroom, in the room near the door. You will need to bring your own bath towels for the shower unless you mind renting one (I think it was $2.00) and you will need to bring the sheets and towels down with you when you check out. I also recommend ear plugs unless you can sleep through screaming bums and Hell Angels cruising about on their Harleys. You should also bring your own lock if you wish to place your bags in a locker. There was a full kitchen were you can store your own food and cook it up using all their pots, utensils, oven/stove. There is also a free but very limited breakfast. There is also a cozy lounge of Ikea furniture and a TV. They also have movie nights, pub crawls, and other social events. The people staying there were from all walks and different ages. I found the staff to be SUPER pleasant and friendly and answered all of my questions. Sadly, the neighborhood is infested with homeless. In San Francisco the homeless are by and large mentally ill which means they are unstable so I recommend being very leery. I was there late at night and still went out to get food without incident but my roommate told me her wallet was stolen. Do exercise caution when you are there. Still, it was a cozy, relatively safe place and for $44.00 you can't beat it. read more

Not bad, better than some of the other hostels I have stayed at. I didn't realise we were staying right on the border of the seedy area, but I wasn't too bothered as the hotel was quite secure, only buzzing people through preventing anyone from just walking in. The room itself was quite impressive. We had a private en suite for $50 per night each. This included a bathroom, mini fridge, microwave and flat screen tv. The room was a decent size and clean. However, my bed was broken when I arrived. I could tell someone had tried to fix it by stapling (yes, with a stapler) it back together but this didn't work- just don't move when you sleep as its so flimsy. I wasn't too worried about the area until our second night. My boyfriend and I were walking across the street for dinner, when my boyfriend pointed out to me a man hiding behind cars as he crept up the street. Next thing, a police officer runs up and asks if we've seen a man run up this way, then he noticed the guy creeping his way up the street. Not even 10 seconds later. police cars had swarmed the street. No kidding, in about 10 seconds police has the area completely surrounded and had this guy on the ground. Very worrying to think this was happening right next to our hostel. The good thing about this area is that there are always a lot of people around so its hard to be too scared about going out, though I did prefer not to go out at night. In terms of sleep, I suggest you bring earplugs, the area is so damn noisy. During the week I slept fine, then came Saturday night. You may as well go out, there is no chance you'll get a good nights sleep. There is a bar across the street that attracts quiet a crowd, people cheering and carrying on, homeless people yelling and fighting, trucks an motorbikes and of course, vehicles with the volume and bass on max. You would think it would stop eventually, but it doesn't. Just go and get drunk. Service was great, the facilties were clean, and there is free breakfast included- even though its not very good. I would stay here again on a weekday, and move to another hostel come the weekend. read more

Formerly known as the Columbia Hotel, Orange Village Hostel is illegally renting rooms to tourists and students in violation of San Francisco's Residential Hotel Ordinance. They also violate occupancy limits by housing four students in a room. Their practice of offering long-term stay to students is against local, state and federal law. Do not support this business! The Columbia Hotel is meant to be a single-room occupancy hotel for long-term, low-income tenants and instead it is being illegally converted for students and tourists and pushing out the people it was meant for. Their 85 residential units are being rented exclusively to students, denying access to working and disabled San Francisco residents. Keep away from there. They are saying on phone we want 250$ deposit and 700-800$ whatever we refund when you are check out. So when you came for check in they says to you we want 300$ deposit when you say something they are show you a sheet and they are not admit and objection. After that there is not sink in restrooms. When you are asking why they are saying if you want extension dont fill the blank and we dont take any reservation about your room. But this is the important point when you dont fill the blank of expire date you can not check in when you want because they are not refunding your deposit according to their cancel policiy. My eye! If you want to fill the blank of expire date, you can not doing any extension. AND THEY ARE SAYİNG ALL OF THE İMPORTANT THİNGS AFTER THEY HAD TAKEN DEPOSIT AND YOU HAD SIGNATURED THE PAPER. This is a (barely) revamped transient hotel that is presenting itself as a hostel for travelers. The rooms are cramped and airless, the bathrooms are dark and have broken fixtures and most importantly, fire safety is a foreign concept. There are power strips plugged into power strips. By far the most upsetting is that there has been a dying fire detector that has been chirping outside my room for the last 24 hours despite my complaining about it twice. This is how people burn to death on vacation. On a side note, one of the juvenile ass-hats that bunked there pulled the fire alarm at 7:30 am (I realize this is not the fault of the hostel but it was the turd cherry on the top of the crap sundae). read more

Great! I have no clue why there are bad reviews. For how little we paid for this place, having our own room for three friends was extremely amazing! Staying here was extremely convenient while in San Fran. The staff was friendly, facilities keep clean for a hostel, and they even had a simple continental breakfast included with out stay!!!! Where else do you get that!?? It's not a hotel, and I would have to guess why there are complaints. If you want a hotel, you should pay for one. Yes parking was a hassle and expensive for valet in the hostel's shared garage. However, parking anywhere in San Fran is a hassle!!! I would recommend this place any day. read more

It was a comfortable hostel, but a hostel nonetheless. The cleaning staff was helpful and friendly, and the beds were clean. You cannot be a snob at a hostel and expect to have a good time (you need money to be snob buddies). It is set in a noisy part of town, but I've been in nice places that were noisier. Part of the hostel packing list should be ear plugs anyways, if you are a light sleeper. Read all the other reviews for a more thorough review of the place though. read more

This place looked really nice at first. It had a relatively cheap price for $30 a night, the kitchen area was nice and the rooms were bearable. However, our room looked over the street, with windows that couldn't close and it was loud all night. You may as well have been sleeping on the street itself. The loud voices of bar goers, the honking of horns, and cars zooming past the window was all I could hear. I'm actually writing this review right now, in the middle of the night, because it's impossible to sleep. I would NOT recommend coming here. The whole point of a hostel is to have a place to rest during the night. I would have more rest in a gorilla pen in the zoo. read more

I completely disagree with Ricardo's review. If you want a hostel set in a TRULY dangerous location, then go with STAY in Los Angeles which is inside the Cecil Hotel, which has housed serial killers. The Orange Village is perfectly SAFE. I stayed here three nights when the hotel I was staying in long-term decided to kick me out for three days during Spring Break so that they could sell my room to a tourist for double the rate I was paying (now THEY are jerks). Orange Village Hostel gave me a room for 70 bucks a night tax included, 75 on weekends. For that rate, I could get a private room with either two twin beds or a double bed. A room that has a private bathroom is the *same price* as one that doesn't. Unfortunately I had to opt for a room that didn't have a bathroom as the rooms with bathrooms were all facing the street and like every other building in SF (for reasons incomprehensible to me..) they don't have double-pane windows and it is *loud* on the street. I had 2 twin beds with a room facing a lightwell. I had stayed in a hostel with a private room facing a lightwell before, at the HI Downtown- it is important to note that the room at HI was at least 20 bucks more and smelled of rotting chicken flesh and had no desk, chair, and the beds were bunk-style which I am not a fan of. The lightwell of HI is much quieter than the lightwell of Orange Village- however. Their guests are LOUD. In the 3 nights I stayed at Orange Village, the afternoons were quiet but the nights were horrible- hence why I knocked off a star. Until about 4am on any given night, one could hear: a girl's very LOUD moans as she was either having sex with a very quiet partner, or with herself (totally awkward), a guy singing along (very off-key) to Beyonce, people listening to movies/TV on their computers, music, phone calls, etc. 2 particularly bothersome noises one could hear from the lightwell that went on all day long: the screams of a man who is totally insane and who apparently snaps a few times a day (I am told by the front desk that he lives in the SRO section of the building above the hostel and is not a guest of the hostel) and a guy who doesn't actually have a cough but forces himself to cough all day, every day, and tries to cough up mucus (even though it's a dry cough) to the point of making sounds of someone vomitting. This happens constantly throughout the day every 10 minutes or so. He never seems to leave, or stop his throwing up/coughing, and it is NASTY. That is the extent of my complaining, though. Everything else about this hostel is way above other hostels in the city (even though other hostels charge more). The location is convenient, the furniture is new and clean, the towels are new, the living room is comfy, the kitchen is huge and clean, the guests are mostly Korean and very nice, the staff is friendly (though the female manager got much less friendly the second day I was here) the bathrooms are very CLEAN, and everything is is just one step above- probably because the hostel is run by Koreans and Koreans, like most other people hailing from Asia, are clean and respectful. The smell of very spicy Korean food cooking is pretty overwhelming, though, so using the kitchen will not be an option for some- it wasn't for me. I had a coughing fit the second I stepped foot in the kitchen. It's important to note that you cannot use your own hot plate as their is a 200 dollar fine if they find you cooking in your room. The clientele is mostly international students going to nearby language schools. The Asian kids are very nice- I found one German girl staying here to be rather rude, asking me all types of VERY personal questions and I ended up avoiding the common areas while she was there. There *was* a blood stain on my pillow case (which I got replaced) so that area could probably use some improvement. Overall, I would stay again though I didn't get good sleep due to the circus going on in the lightwell, but this is not the fault of the hostel staff- the one time I complained about a very loud party they got it shut down in 5 minutes flat. . Riccardo C.'s review should be disregarded and viewed as pure fabrication from someone who probably has a grudge against the owner. Either way, his review doesn't reflect anything REAL about this place at all. Yes, there does seem to be one crazy guy living there, but from what I'm told, he isn't part of the hostel, and I've never seen him nor been bothered by him (or anyone) in the halls or common areas so I am inclined to believe the staff that he stays independent of the hostel, in the SRO units above. As for Jeffrey's bad review, he's really not being fair. As a guest I wouldn't have wanted a dude with the flu contaminating the common area and sleeping on the COUCH all day. If you're not leaving the hostel til 10pm, then you need to pay for a room and stay in it if you want to lay down. They're a hostel not a homeless shelter or Emergency Room. read more

I stayed here on the 5th floor 4 bed dorm with it own. Bathroom , which was very nice . The lockers inside the room are very small. The hostel is located where there are a lot of homeless people are . The hostel has a good breakfast, laundromat and location. The price is in line with the other hostels around San Francisco. Stayed here in March 2010 in a private room with bathroom (only a few bucks more than a dorm room)... the place had everything we needed from laundry facilities, free breaky/awsome kitchen, free wifi & easy going staff that allowed us to hold our bags there the day we left. We were probaly among the only few who spoke english but didnt bother us and staff knew what was going & were more than helpful to any requests. For the price, i would rate this one of the cleanest & value packed hostels in American (in particular the San Fran area). It was ~$60/night for the cheapest room (4 person room, shared bathroom). The location is near tourist attractions, the price is good, and they serve free breakfast. They have pretty fast wifi, lots of outlets by your bunk bed, and a small nightlight so you can have the light on without disturbing your roommates. The con is that the building is very old, and everything is really shabby and depressing. I think there are better hostels in SF, but those run out of rooms fast, so this place is your best bet for on the fly stays. read more

I reserved a room two weeks in advance through Booking.com. I show up to check in and they tell me after looking at my ID that they aren't accepting San Francisco locals and denied me service. This is discrimination. They are a business based in San Francisco denying business to people who live in SF. They turned me away solely based on the fact that my CA ID says I live in San Francisco. read more

The staff here are so rude and look discriminatory. ( their treatment is terrible and not helpful but white people.) When I ask the staff something they look they are not willing to take on it and even say nothing to me all the time. (I am not a annoying person.) A few staff of them are good but, first of all, they should improve the way they do to customers. Kitchen room has been renovated recently and more cleaned. Looks better. But you need to know it is almost always crowded. The room is not comfortable but okay to me. House keepers are very kind and do their job very well. That's the only good thing I can find. Anyway, I think you can find a better hostel and you don't have to choose here at first. read more

I stayed in a 4 bed dorm room with 3 friends, we could not sleep at all, our room looked on the street which was quite noisy all night, and the mattresses were essentially broken with un-even springs inside them making it difficult to find a comfortable enough position to get some rest. The staff was unhelpful when we mentioned this to them. read more

I have stayed there more than 5 months as an international student. This place is pretty quiet and I have met nice people there. The most important thing is that this place is clean. Helpful receptionists and managers. I have been before in 3 different hostels and this one is my prefered one. I really recommend it. read more

They say they're not located in the Tenderloins but as soon you walk out the door your surrounded by homeless people. I know that can be said about many parts of San Francisco, but this area is particularly bad. The room was cozy but didn't feel safe as it didn't even have a deadbolt lock. "Continental Breakfast" was disappointing as it only included waffles and cereal. No parking but they refer you to a parking structure a couple blocks away at a discounted price. read more

Ive stayed there for 2 weeks and overall, it was worth going to US during the vacation. They had a party every week and my roommates were amazingly hilarious. If you are planning to go to SF, then I would definitely recommend this place. read more

Price is reasonable and pretty cheap for the location. Lots of homeless people outside and nearby but inside is different. The bathroom did have a lot of bugs but they cleaned the room daily. For $40 a night you can't expect anything too great. Much better than sleeping on a Union square bench. read more

The best hostel in downtown for the price and location!..The rooms look new and are clean which is really important when choosing a hostel..the staff is very helpful and nice!.the kitchen is huge and always busy with people cooking which is nice and always smells great makes me hungry..I've made so many friends from different countries from my week stay here at orange village..! i would def recommend this hostel to others!! be sure to check with the front desk if your looking for places to go that are local hidden gems..its good to find places that not all the tourist know about..and the front desk staff is good a recommending local restaurants and nightlife bars/clubs that are free or cheap which is good if your on a budget!!! This is one of the worst hostel I have ever visited - and I am not picky! It was not so much the facilities or location, (both of which did not live up to any of the expectations I got through Orange Village Hostel's webpage) but the lack of service! Orange Village has a cancelation policy, saying that you have to cancel your room 3 days in advance. You can do so through their webpage, which has a build-in email system. Unfortunately for me, it does not work. I sent my cancellation (I would arrive a day later than expected.) Sunday, cancelling the following wednesday. You should that this would be enough, when the webpage clearly says so. Arriving Thursday at Orange Village I was met with the worst attitude I have ever met in at a hostel. The girl at the front desk in Orange Village told me that they hadn't got my cancellation email, even though they had my email adress. "Pretty strange" i was thinking, "but we will sort it out." - oh, how I was wrong. I was told to talk to a manager, who was not in at the time. So I waited. And waited. When the manager finally showed up, hours later, she chose not to talk to me, but in chinese with her employee. She did not even look me in the eyes. I tried to explaine her the dilemma, but she just turned her back on me, keeping up her conversation in chinese. Then she walked away. I had had NO chance to explain my side of the story. I was told by the girl at the front desk that there was nothing she could do, and that I had lost my money. I am furious. I find it outragious that because their website is not working, I have to pay for it. I would not recommend this hostel to anyone! It is a complete waste of money! DO NOT BOOK A ROOM HERE! read more
