But Pure Barre has been the complete opposite: rejoining was seamless, and they even honored a military discount for me for being in the Air Force. The instructors? Amazing, they are all truly special; they remember faces and names, cheer you on, and create such a positive, uplifting energy in every class. Even the little touches, like a bathroom stocked with essentials, show how much they care about their members' experience. This place just gets it! Adjacent to the Best Buy located in Square One Mall, this space has exchanged hands many times over the years. And now it's Ultraflex Gym. Top of the line equipment, wide open space with lots of sweet Iron to satisfy all them Iron Addicts. Two floors of some great equipment, good vibes and overall a solid environment for any sort of fitness lover looking to improve themselves. However their membership fee is a bit high in comparison to other gyms in the area. Would absolutely join if they had more cost effective membership offerings.

Here's…read moremy experience: I knew I'd be coming out to Beverly, MA in June, so I looked up Crossfit gyms ahead of time. A friend pointed me towards NSCF as well, so I reached out via e-mail. Tara responded promptly to my request for information about being a drop-in visitor ($20 fee, have your home coach send us a note with any training concerns, & please being a T shirt from your home gym ... All good info !!) and last Wednesday, I found myself here ! I felt VERY welcome, the coach introduced himself & made sure I knew what was going on, where to warm up, etc. Dave, the owner, also came over & said hello. I met some fun people, had a great workout, and would definitely return here if I am in the area again. The space is well laid out, all the equipment was familiar to me - standard Rogue boxes, etc - and the gym appears, to me anyway - to be run by professional, safe & sane folks who exemplify what I want Crossfit up be. I found no "hacks" here. If I lived in the area, this would be my gym.

I also wanted to take a moment to shoutout Coach Kyle. After working through physical therapy for a herniated disc, I came to Kyle just as he was starting up his own personal training program. I cannot emphasize how beneficial working with Kyle was for 2 months from the end of physical therapy, until the time I was confident enough to come back into regular classes. Bridging that gap between ending PT and returning to your normal routine is hard enough, but working 1 on 1 with Kyle was incredible, not just physically, but mentally preparing me for return to sport. He helped instill a mindset of doing it correctly and taking it slow to slowly ramp back up to my normal routine. After researching the local gyms, fitness studios, and health and wellness centers, I dropped by RPM Fitness. Even before I entered the gym I was greeted outside by an employee (maybe the owner?). I was also happily greeted at the front desk and given a tour of the facility, with a brief overview of classes, busiest times of the day, and pricing. Not yet ready to commit, I went home. Now, a little less than a week later, I've joined as a member and am happy I did. The facility is organized, staff is friendly and helpful, locker room (at least the men's) is clean, and equipment/space meet all the needs of a well rounded gym. I especially like the open concept in one of the rooms which allows me to perform circuit training routines and not feel like I'm stepping on someone else's toes. Also, I particularly enjoy kettle bell, battling rope, and med ball exercises, all of which are available. You can really feel the inviting atmosphere even from the members. It's like a community where you're important, which is really refreshing to see compared to these giant facilities that have 4000+ members and you become just another $ sign. I've excited to get back in for another workout! Now, let's just see if Yelp! thinks I'm worthy of making the front page or tucking my thoughts away on their not worthy page.

It is not a normal gym, as you will sign up for group classes set on specific days and at specific times. Once you do, you'll be in a small class (usually less than 10), with two trainers giving you plenty of attention. Speaking of trainers, they recruit the best and the brightest, including my trainer, Anna Tocco, who is a ball of energy. It works out to be about $20 a session. You'll work up a sweat, but not simply for the sake of sweating - over the course of each 4 month session there is a plan to make you stronger, better conditioned, and less injury prone. You'll be doing the same workouts the pro athletes there are doing (when I was there, the NFL combine prep was in full swing), which some modifications of course (and obviously not at the same weights). They make great use of the astroturf for sprinting amd plyo work. Plenty of olympic weight racks. Penty of slideboard work too, which is awesome. No question, this is the gold standard.
