He is patient, kind, professional, and truly cares about his patients. Nina and the other dental assistants are also outstanding. They are friendly, knowledgeable, and consistently provide excellent care. Unfortunately, my experience with the front desk, specifically Tifani Lively, changed my overall impression of the practice. Over time, her professionalism declined, and she repeatedly blurred the line between personal and professional interactions. On one occasion, she used my personal phone number, which was provided for my patient records, to contact me about personal matters unrelated to my treatment. After that, she contacted me several more times about personal matters. I chose not to respond to those communications because I wanted to keep our interactions strictly professional and limited to my care as a patient. I found this repeated contact to be highly inappropriate and a serious violation of my privacy. During another visit, while I was at the front desk scheduling my next appointment as instructed, she began discussing personal matters with me that had nothing to do with my care. This conversation took place during business hours and in front of other patients, making the interaction uncomfortable, unprofessional, and at times somewhat hostile in tone. I was scheduled for a retainer checkup on 8/5/2026 and confirmed my appointment the week before. Then, on 8/3/2026, I received a text message stating that my appointment had been canceled. No explanation was provided, and there was no attempt to reschedule. Given the repeated inappropriate personal contact over the weekend and the hostile nature of our most recent interaction, I am concerned that my appointment may have been canceled for reasons unrelated to my care and without Dr. Schwartz's knowledge. While I cannot confirm that this is what happened, the timing raises legitimate concerns. It is disappointing that the actions of one staff member overshadowed what was otherwise an excellent experience with Dr. Schwartz and the clinical team. I hope the practice takes these concerns seriously and reviews its policies regarding professionalism, patient privacy, and appropriate use of patient information so that no other patient has a similar experience.

I came to see you after a Google search for "best orthodontist in Washington, DC" - you were the first and only orthodontist that I visited for a consultation. I was convinced immediately that you could handle my orthodontic issues by your informational consultation and the benevolent staff of Shefferman Orthodontics (I absolutely love Marie - she is the best!). I came to you at the ripe age of 35 with a pronounced diastema (a space or gap between two teeth) located between my front upper teeth and smaller ones between my lower teeth. I never liked having a gap between my front two teeth; it has always been a cause of embarrassment and dismay for me even though I have always been told that I was attractive and that the gap "fit me". I choose to be fitted with metal braces that had clear brackets on the front upper and lower teeth although you gave me the option to choose Invisalign if I wanted a less noticeable solution. To address my fears about my gap opening back up after removal of my braces, you also decided to install a permanent retainer behind my upper front teeth. The 22 months that I was treated were a breeze! I had very little discomfort, reassuring visits and affordable payment options. I actually kind of miss my braces sometimes. I am also very satisfied with the aftercare you provided me (included in the price of the orthodontic treatment) - I have made consistent 6 month visits since December of 2014 and you have only recently released me once you were confident that my smile was stable. Many of these orthodontists now have super busy offices, seeing 80 plus patients a day. These types of practices can leave you feeling a bit confused because no one has time to really talk with you due to so many patients. Dr Sheferrman, even though I only saw him for a consultation and not treatment, doesn't have that style of a practice. The others are not bad, it just depends on your patient-style as to what you prefer in an orthodontist. Adult patients normally are more interactive than child patients and Dr Shefferman has a majority of adults.

Updated Review - Hindsight Is 20/20: Buyer Beware…read more Looking back several years after completing treatment, I feel it's important to share my experience. My orthodontic results lasted only about 2-3 years after my braces were removed. After that, my teeth gradually shifted and gaps began to form, despite wearing my retainers exactly as instructed. When I returned to discuss the issue, I was disappointed that there were no meaningful solutions offered other than paying for additional treatment or purchasing new retainers. The retainers themselves were another frustration. I paid approximately $600 for each set, yet both broke much sooner than expected. When I contacted the office about a newly purchased retainer that appeared to be defective, I was told through the receptionist to see my local dentist instead. That response left me feeling dismissed, especially since the problem involved a retainer made by their office. Once my treatment was complete, I felt there was very little support when problems developed that were related to my orthodontic care. While the office staff was always willing to schedule appointments, my concerns ultimately weren't resolved, and I was left feeling that the only options presented involved spending more money. The office itself is attractive and offers plenty of extras, but I personally felt that those amenities were reflected in the overall cost of treatment rather than the long-term quality of care. In addition, parking is very limited and inconvenient, making appointments more difficult and expensive. Everyone's experience may be different, but mine was disappointing. Beyond the physical issues, I also felt misled--key aspects of my treatment were not fully explained, and I was not informed of the potential risks or alternative options. Had I been given accurate information, I would have made very different decisions about my teeth. Now, I am dealing with insecurities by my smile very discomfort and emotional distress, knowing that even if I will likely need corrective treatment elsewhere to fix my smile again the orthodontist I went after I done my treatment with her they told me they can't do nothing about it now because the damage is done already.
