My therapist has me pre-sign all my work sheets .. when I went in to see her I just read something she gave me to read .. my insurance was hit after I left after I self paid $$$ ..they have some very good group therapist there FYI - I learned a lot . On August 8, 2012 I was pushed into making the hardest and best choice I've ever made. At 22 years old, my parents gave me an ultimatum after another one of my (many) benders that landed me hospitalized. It was either get help, or get out. I arrived at the Orchid confused, scared, and feeling totally alone. It was there I learned how to reintegrate back into real life without drinking. I learned how to be honest. I learned how important it is to feel every emotion authentically rather than finding every chemical to mask it temporarily. It was five years ago that I was given an opportunity to get help and I took it. Today, I define my recovery as a daily effort to live in line with who I genuinely am. I look for ways every day to enhance my own physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. I learned these principles at the Orchid. It was up to me to apply them to my life. Today, I am a licensed associate counselor in New Jersey. And I recently passed my independent clinical drug and alcohol counseling licensing exam (yay) to become a LCADC (licensed clinical alcohol and drug counselor). I also went down to a conference in Florida, and I had the pleasure of randomly running into Mindy (out of thousands of people there), who was a counselor when I was there who really motivated me. It was amazing to see her as a clinician rather than a client. It was an amazing moment to see her, God works in incredible ways. At this point in my life and my recovery, I strive to help those who struggle with the disease of addiction. I hope to help people see the smallest spark of hope in their darkness. The power of a spark is immeasurable. The Orchid was my spark, and I wouldn't be where I am today without them. My visit to the Orchid was my 4th residential treatment center stay for alcohol dependence. And it was a NIGHTMARE from day one. I found the counseling staff - specifically - intolerant and arrogant and I don't use those words lightly. I went in for a 30 day stay. I won't write about all of it here because it'll take too long. However, the following situations deserve your attention. The first thing happened within five minutes of my arrival. I checked in and was asked to wait on a couch in the hallway because the women were in class. (The women were carted each morning to a business center where classes were held during the day. The Orchid took up the majority - if not all - of one floor.) About two minutes into my wait for class to end, I heard screaming. And then screaming and yelling. And then hysterical screaming and sobbing. And it went on for ten minutes. As I tried to decide whether I should run screaming from the building and try to save myself before it was too late, the secretary told me not to worry. She said the women were in Psycho Drama. I was terrified. Not only was Psycho Drama a favorite practice for all the staff, they took it to the extreme when, during my 3rd day, they had all of the residents - me included - put on a play for them. I kid you not. I played Lindsey Lohan. They let me strap a cell phone to my ankle as a prop to mimic her ankle monitor. I'll fast forward here ... on my 25th day there, I spent 8 hours in the ER for an ovarian cyst. I was sent back to the center that afternoon with orders to stay in bed. The idea behind bed rest - according to the DR. - was to try to prevent the cyst from rupturing because if that happened, I'd need emergency surgery. The following day, I was told I had to get up and participate. When I argued against it, the ENTIRE STAFF was waiting for me in a conference room and I was given an ultimatum - participate or leave. Two hours later I was drinking in the lounge at the airport while I waited for my flight back to Seattle. As of today's date - 18 May 2017 - I've been to seven residential treatment centers including Betty Ford. I celebrated one year of sobriety a week ago today. And the Orchid was BY FAR the most pathetic excuse for a treatment center I've experienced in my 11-year residential treatment center adventure. I HIGHLY recommend that you move right past the Orchid when looking for a residential treatment center for women in the Miami area. I highly recommend that you google a Community Reinforcement and Family Training provider. Start there. Best. read more

This place is amazing! I have been clean and sober for over four years. The entire staff is so skilled and the program is the best out there. It is perfect for women especially if you are older. Orchid truly did help save my life. I went here for my 3rd treatment, and I chose all women's treatment for a reason. The counselors there were amazing, and the staff was very understanding and caring. A family member of mine went to this facility, seeking help for personal trauma and painkiller addiction. She was desperate, and assumed that this place would be the place to go--they seemed so kind and friendly on the phone, and the website is pretty enough. When she got there, she was in for a terrible surprise. The therapists there were not only never there to cater to one-on-one patient needs, but the individual who was to act as her therapist was verbally abusive and accusatory, putting scenarios into my family member's mouth which never happened. She did nothing to help my family member except feed her reasons as to why she should hate herself for seeking help, and she deliberately did so in front of a group of cliqueish, catty girls. This therapist, named Michelle, saw my family member ONE TIME in private during the entire 30-day stay she had. And this is a place that is supposedly geared for treating personal trauma. Several staff members have quit that place, due to the incredible level of unprofessionalism that permeates the facility. It is nothing more than a high-school maturity level place where the "mean girls" gang up on those who are a bit outside of the normal group (i.e. those who are quiet or shy), bullying information out of them for the sake of knowing, not for the sake of caring. If you or a loved one are thinking of going to this place to heal, please, PLEASE reconsider. There are multiple terrible reviews all over the internet of how awful The Orchid is. Recovery is so very important, and this prison is not the place to start that journey. Avoid it at all costs. read more

I was recommended to this facility - 1. they did not respond to my initial email form 2. spoke to a decent gentleman at length - however he 'said' he called but did not and lied about mixing up the numbers on my phone (he repeated this when we chatted) AND had my cell phone. 3. called 888 number again today -- I expressed my concern regarding feedback for an interested person and realized how horrific the reviews were. 4. need I say more??? I went to the Orchid in January of 2011 after struggling with substance abuse. I specifically chose this all women's treatment center because they specialize in trauma and have an emphasis on holistic healing. At the time it was a hard 30 days. It is when one is most raw with emotions after starting this huge step and not having a crutch anymore. I found the one on one weekly therapist sessions, daily group sessions and art therapy to be extremely helpful in me getting in touch and healing pain I had yet ignored up until that point in my life. The emphasis on fitness and yoga as daily necessities has followed me into my (coming up on) 6 years clean and sober. I honestly at times wish I could go back as there was never another time that I was surrounded by supportive women in an atmosphere where focusing on me was priority. I am proud to say I have kept up with not using any substances to numb the unpleasant feelings since graduating the program. It looks like from the other comments that everyone has had their own personal experience, but it wouldn't be right if I didn't share how much my experience at the orchid saved my life. read more

I was at the Orchid in 4/2013, for 30 days, extended to 6 weeks, after 10 days at a detox. I had a good experience, although after reading some other reviews, I wanted to make a lot of comments. It is a VERY expensive facility, and I came through health insurance from my job. I had very low-income anyway, and while everyone was very nice to me, I did experience the "cliquish high school" atmosphere, as in they were "better than" or "above" me but that could be in my mind due to my low self-esteem after 10 years of relapse and living the way that I had been living. Most obviously came from wealthy families/backgrounds, as they would say that they had trust funds, or were private pay for 90 days (at over $15,000 a month); my Mom still lives in the house that she and my Daddy bought in the 60s for $9,700, understand? Although they made many renovations and it's now worth about $75,000+. Don't know about everyone else, but I sure don't come from that type of background. I have back problems, for which I now need surgery, terrifying being an addict, but the yoga, although I don't have the money to take a class, I do some basic stretching and positions, which have and do help my flexibility. I did seem to garnet a little more respect, right or wrong, due to my previous length of being clean and sober. I could plainly see that most patients could not even grasp being as poor as I was, and am. One major help that I received was that they diagnosed mental illnesses, which I have sought help and treatment for, and have stabilized with medication, and THAT has been a huge help. One frustration that I experienced was when I requested/needed medical attention, it took several requests and took FOREVER to get to see someone. I am not ordinarily a shy person, but talking publicly or in a group, especially about personal/private issues (NO problem one-on-one with a therapist or other person) that I was ashamed of was hard. They weren't "mean" to me, but I can see how the therapists being somewhat confrontational with me in groups did help me to open up and be vulnerable in that group, and I found much more love and acceptance from the group after allowing them to see that vulnerability. The fast pace and very strict schedule was very helpful for easing back into a normal life; it was ROUGH. Giving us a budget and making us stick to it, (we had what they gave us weekly, and limited on what we could spend of our own money, which I never had any extra, had to stick to what they gave me) shop, prepare, and clean up for our own meals was also good, although I had done that all of my life, but the more wealthy people had a very hard time with this. I was usually the first one done, while those with money were in the store FOREVER, while our frozen food was thawing. I am a Christian, but open minded, but didn't care for the huge emphasis on Buddhism with a "Master Priestess" who was nice, but the mask/drum thing, acupuncture, meditation (fine, relax, reflect, etc.), but "seeing things?" Seriously? Acupuncture, not sure, but not often enough to do any good really, and like everyone has the money to continue? I found the huge emphasis on "new age" religious practices a little offensive, as the effort to peddle the book of the whatever he was, Randy, acupuncture, holistic guy, although his sessions were a rest from the other groups. AND massage therapy? Not unless you had about $80 to pay out-of-pocket for each session you scheduled, which means I had no massage therapy. read more

As a professional substance abuse therapist, I had great hopes for this facility as the website is beautiful. However, when my aunt enter for detox and rehab, it was not as pictured or described. The therapist (Christine) was verbally abusive and humiliated my aunt in front of other people. She was only a student intern. I made numerous attempts to reach out to the CEO, clinical director and the therapist. However, after much trouble, the therapist finally called me back. During the phone call, she was inappropriate, unprofessional, and just angry. In addition, I found out later, that my aunt was in the ER with chest pain, high blood pressure 180/105, before I spoke to the therapist on the phone. The agency or therapist did not inform me or my uncle, her husband. So my aunt just left to go to the ER and the therapist told my uncle that we didn't need to know because my aunt already "ruined" our lives. Outrageous. I'm shocked & appalled. If I could give Zero stars I would. read more
