The good: The ambiance is good, the service is friendly, and the restaurant is cute. The bad: Unfortunately, the food. I got the whole chicken with a side of vegetables. The chicken was more than 90% bone. I didn't think I'd still be hungry after ordering an entire chicken, but here we are. The skin was crispy but that's about the only good thing in this dish. Next up was the Oromo. I meant to order something else, but ordered the wrong thing. This was like a big piece of flavorless steamed dumpling. Granted, this was likely my fault since I meant to order the Manty. Lastly was the Jarovnya beef. This was ok. Nothing to write home about. Like of like a Chinese beef stir fry. Overall, for the price, I'm pretty mad I ordered an entire chicken and still felt hungry enough to get two more things. As we walked in to the restaurant it didn't look like much, but once we stepped inside we were transported to Central Asia. The decor is beautiful and great ambiance with nice music. Our server promptly greeted us and explained which countries the food was from. Everything looked so good it was hard to choose. For drinks they had a nice selection. We settled the spiced pomegranate margarita and a Goose Island beer. We started our meal with the pelmeni which were delicate and delicious in a lovely sauce. For entrees we shared the Jarovnya which was almost like an Asian fajita platter and Oromo which is a vegetarian dumpling style dish. The flavors were excellent. This restaurant was, and still is as the relaunch, crap. Food (when it eventually arrives out of the kitchen) is bland and tasteless (signature chicken tabaka). No 1000 island dressing available for salad and no free refills on ice tea or Diet Coke. Better get going soon because this is a tough market environment and Fieldhouse is down the road. My husband and I went to Ordo last night for the first time! We absolutely loved it! First, they did such a nice job redecorating/renovating inside. It was warm and welcoming! Good to know it just isn't a massively large restaurant so some tables may be closer together, but it doesn't ruin the experience by any means! My husband and I both aren't big drinkers so we were pleasantly surprised to see a zero proof section on their beverage menu. We got the "mixed berry mule" and both loved it! We decided to start with their pickle plate, solenyia. It is a nice portion and I love a good pickle plate. It's a nice bite to have throughout the meal. We also shared the Vareniki pan fried. They were light, crispy, and the sauce complimented it nicely! For our main course we decided to share the Kuurdak with beef and the Jarovnya with chicken. Both were DELICIOUS! We kept going back and forth with which one we liked more. We did keep coming back to the Kuurdak though. It had such great flavor and the meat was so tender. This is the kind of place that I think all ages will like the food! We 100% plan on coming back and trying more off of the menu. read more

Came here on a Sunday night and no one was in sight! All good though. The drinks were really good. I did an old fashioned and my girl did some raspberry martini - we got two each. The ceasar salad was really good! Best hit of the night. The fruit flies were all over the place- did not enjoy having to smack them away every 5 minutes. For entrees -- the salmon was ok but the mashed potatoes made it better. The veggies on the side were iced cold... The beef lulu plate was weird. It had a white and a red onion. I took my family to try out Ordo on Thursday. The restaurant was very nice inside and everyone seemed to really like the food. I ordered the Beef Plov and the meat was tender and very well seasoned. The rice it was served on was also very good. Two others at my table ordered the Lamb Plov and enjoyed the lamb version. My wife ordered the Manty and my daughter ordered the Mushroom Risotto and they both said their meals were very tasty. As good as the food was, the service left some room for improvement. It took a long time for us to be greeted, a long time to have our orders taken once seated, and a long time to get the check at the end. Also, my son didn't get his food. We assumed it was coming but it never arrived. So we had to ask the waitress later where it was and she said there was some sort of mix-up and brought him his plate right away. Still a little surprised that she didn't think it was weird that everyone was served but him. Lastly, they gave our check to the table next to us and they had to point it out to them (after they already paid I think). read more

We tried Ordo, a restaurant serving Central Asian and Eastern European dishes, in the space formerly occupied by Players. We had never been to Players, but our friends had, and they remarked how Ordo was nicely decorated and remodeled. It was crowded on a Friday evening, almost every table was taken. We ordered beverages and some appetizers. The samsy was a flaky pastry filled with beef and onions with a dipping sauce. It only contained one, so we all had just a small taste. The vareniki were dumplings (pierogi) with potato filling and a sour cream dill sauce. This was more plentiful and we ordered them steamed. We also split a tray of soleniya, picked and fermented vegetables. The platter had an assortment of peppers, mushrooms, cabbage, tomatoes. Our beverages still hadn't arrived yet so we had to remind them. My friends ordered filet Mignon, mushroom risotto and jarovnya, meat and vegetables in a "unique frying pan." I ordered Plov - Uzbekistan's legendary national dish. The standard recipe is lamb meat, long grain rice, carrots, onions, garlic, cumin and coriander. My dish also had chickpeas and raisins. The best plov is made in a kazan, a large cast iron or aluminum pot. I ordered the Plov with beef, which was tender cubes of fragrant, spiced meat. I enjoyed the grilled, spiced and sweet nature of the dish. It was very filling. We enjoyed our meal -- expertly prepared, spices from the Silk Road, abundant and served on platters, pans, trays. The only glitch was that it took a long time for our dishes to come out, the filet came way after the other dishes, and it was cooked well rather than medium. Our server was friendly, though a little overwhelmed by the crowded room. It was late so we bypassed dessert -- only to run into our friends again at Jewel, picking up dessert. read more

Nice ambiance and the food was very good but oh my goodness they are slow. It took almost an hour to get our meal. And there were only two tables taken in the entire restaurant. We had to ask a few times for our bill and some to go cartons. Once we received the cartons none of the lids fit. At this point we just wanted to leave and didn't ask for new ones. The waiter was nice which was a plus. We saw some people at the door picking up their food to go and they stood at the door for at least 30 minutes while the waiter kept saying "5 more minutes". We chose Ordo for our date night, and it exceeded every single expectation, turning a simple dinner into a memorable experience. The atmosphere was perfect--vibrant enough to feel lively but still intimate enough for a great conversation. From the moment we sat down, our waiter, Jack, was our guide for the evening, and we decided to put our entire meal in his hands. It was the best decision we could have made. He recommended everything from the appetizer to the dessert, and he didn't lead us wrong once. The journey started with the Adjarian Khachapuri. It arrived as a stunning, hot bread boat filled with a savory mix of cheeses. Jack mixed a golden egg yolk into it right at our table, and the result was absolutely amazing--cheesy, gooey perfection. For our entrees, we had the Shashlik skewers, which were incredibly tender and perfectly marinated, and the Lagman, a delicious dish of pan-fried beef with wonderful homemade noodles. Just when we thought it couldn't get any better, dessert arrived. We tried both the honey cake and the Napoleon cake on Jack's suggestion, and both were spectacular. He also recommended a rough coffee to go with them, which was the perfect, bold finish to an incredible meal. What truly made the evening was the combination of phenomenal food and Jack's impeccable, friendly service. Ordo is a fantastic spot for a date night, but I could easily see bringing a group of friends here as well. We are already planning our next visit! read more

Surprisingly very good! This place from an outside POV didn't seem like much, but once you walk in, the ambience was a lot better! It's not the fanciest restaurant , but it's very very decent for what it offers. We were seated and shortly greeted by our waiter for our drinks and appetizers. This restaurant is a beautifully decorated addition to a nondescript strip mall in Deerfield. Its decorated beautifully with items that must be from the Silk Road. There were many interesting choices on the menu, and we ordered the soups, plov and momo- like dumplings. The soup came in short order, but we had a very long wait for our entrees. The server acknowledged the long wait and comped us a delicious creme brulee for dessert. All in all a nice place but be prepared to wait. read more

This place is amazing! The food is unique and delicious! Our server, Jack, was very helpful in making recommendations for dishes to try. He was attentive and checked in about how we liked our food and drinks. We had the eggplant and zucchini salad, borscht, a baked bread with cheese and egg dish, the lagman noodle and beef dish, and the shashlik beef dish, and a couple of the desserts - all were fantastic! I've been loving Highland Park restaurants, and a spot that I checked out recently was Order which is central asian cuisine that is 100% halal as well. The apricot kompot was a first to me, and it wasn't overpowering on the sweetness which was nice. The Lamb Shorpo had a rich broth with tender lamb, and mushroom soup was good as well. the salmon tartare was on the lighter side and the spicy mayo is always appreciated in pretty much any dish. The carrots here are bright and have a crazy crunch mixed in garlic and spices. The best appetizer I had however were the beef samsy which had flaky layers encasing juicy meat, onion, and spices. For the mains, as Arby's would say "we have the meats" and there was no shortage starting with the lamb shashlik paired with onions and grilled peppers. The sauce is perfect for those looking for a kick mixed with some fresh flavor. The manty here are the best I've had and I've Manty at several other restaurants, I'm not just saying that. The beef lula kebab are also good and come with that semi-spicy sauce that would actually be better described as a salsa. The Plov here is good, but I did have more favorites throughout the meal that I definitely deem must-orders. Grilled canadian salmon is good if you're looking for a lighter protein, and tasted like was grilled right and not dried out. Last but not least, we had mixed berries tea which was on the sweeter side, I would ask without honey as well as two of the desserts beginning with the Napoleon cake which was dense, and the better out of the two, but I've had better. Additionally, the honey cake didn't really taste like honey cake, but more of just a vanilla cake. read more
