She was so historically knowledgeable and presented the tour in such a wonderful, dramatic way. This was exactly what we were looking for. Not overly scary, but just spooky enough. And rockway felt like it was in a time warp... like a normal Rockwell painting on life magazine! Seriously... felt like you were in 1952's!!! Oh and many people also brought their dogs with them! Wonderful! Only wish it was cleaner and they could fully refurbish the cars. Could be a great organised joint volunteer project... for seniors and teens. All and all we loved it and the town!

From the steam train all decked out for the season to the hot chocolate, candy canes, bells, elves, trees and yes...the big man himself even joined in the holiday fun! The train ride went a smidge past Oaks park. Enough for a good taste of the Christmas spirit but not too far to wear out the kiddos. Loved every second! Even after the ride, the fun continued. A dedicated space to write letters to Santa (and yes, he did write back!!! My little one loved getting his letter), hot cocoa/coffee booth (they hand decorated each cup!). I'll be back every year. I appreciate their dedication and warmth to all ages.

The sea lion docks in Newport are fun to visit! You can hear them barking from the main street…read moregoing through historic downtown. The docks are located behind Clearwater restaurant. Peak times to view the sea lions is from August thru May, as they migrate south in summer to breed. It can be pretty stinky and loud along the sea lion docks. You're also asked not to feed the sea lions as they are wild animals. Viewing the sea lions from the docks is free. I would highly recommend stopping to see them while visiting the historic Newport bayfront!

Who knew we would see more sea lions here in Oregon than we did in Alaska on our cruise, but we…read moredid. There is a place that you can go to see wild California sea lions barking, sunning, and splashing just steps from the sidewalk right off the docks. This is free and is open all year round. We were impressed at their size, with the males reaching lengths of up to 8 feet and weighing over 800 pounds. The females, slightly smaller, are no less impressive. We also saw them near the Clearwater Restaurant. They are just amazing creatures.

Peter was courteous, knowledgeable, and genuinely fun to hang out with. He first drove us around Portland and explained the geography of the city, then we visited Pittock Mansion, where he shared a bunch of interesting facts and history. Next, we went to the International Rose Test Garden, where we got to walk around and literally stop to smell the roses. Afterward, Peter continued showing us around Portland and sharing interesting facts along the way. Since we had a little extra time, we also stopped at Mt. Tabor Park, and we ended the tour with a visit to Voodoo Doughnut before Peter dropped us back off at our hotel. Overall, we had an amazing time! One caution fir visitors. Our car in the Pittock parking lot was broken into. Nothing to take but expensive to repair the window. There are plenty of warning signs about leaving no valuables. We did the WildWood Trail to the Witches Castle! It's a nice hike. Wear appropriate shoes and clothes! 2.3-5 miles round trip. It's a big enough path for multiple people but some areas narrow. The climb down is good but man back up lol you will feel the burn. They have restrooms onsite indoor and then they have a bathroom in the mansion basement. Toilets flush loud don't be alarmed. At the bottom of the trail when you cross the street, there was a porta potty. Map as well. Parking is expensive: weekend Saturday it was roughly $24 for all day! There are benches and picnic tables towards the view! Staff are very nice! Gift shop as well with snacks, plants, jewelry, postcards, and all sorts of items.

Attended the 25th Anniversary of the Frank Lloyd Wright "Gordon House" at its current location. It…read morewas built in 1963, (a few years after Frank Lloyd Wright's death) for Conrad and Evelyn Gordon of Wilsonville, OR. The House was saved from being torn down in 2001 by being deconstructed. Then moved 40 miles over to Silverton. We were able to tour the yard, and the 1st and second floors. Each space was unique with angular wood work, colored concrete and light pouring in through wide panes of glass. All typical of FLW architecture, which he referred to as "Usonian". Simple, beautiful and functional. There were cupcakes, coloring activities and a pianist along with specialists answering questions throughout the home. My favorite part was the red kitchen and skylight. Afterwards we went over to the Oregon Garden right next door. It was two great properties to explore on a beautiful day. Highly recommend both!
