The walkable urban neighborhood is filled with trees, flowers, beautiful old mansions, a couple of parks, lots of shops, restaurants, medical offices and a hospital. Transportation is provided for personal appointments, and a streetcar and bus stop is a block away. The small size of the building supports a congenial community. This is not an assistant-living facility. Active elders will find it ideal. Those in poorer health who need assistance have to arrange and pay for private caregivers.

My parents have lived there a year and a half and enjoyed group outings to the Columbia Gorge, the Portland Art Museum, and local vineyards. They also have great in-house programs including daily exercise class, movies, interesting lectures and celebrations, weekly happy hour on Fridays, and a wonderful resident garden area on the 4th floor terrace where people can sign up for their own little garden space. It has drip irrigation in all the plots so it's easy, low maintenance for everyone. They have shaded seating areas, too, so it's a great place to bring a book and cup of coffee or gather with friends. If you are looking for a nice place to live, easy walking distance to shopping and restaurants, and only a block to Good Sam Hospital then this is definitely a good choice! The only drawback is they don't have progressive care, so if you need or anticipate the need for additional care you will have to hire people to come in or move. We chose to hire extra help because the atmosphere is so nice and when my dad passed away recently the residents and staff have really rallied around my mom. They get an A for effort and going above and beyond what is expected.

My brother moved into The Watermark at the Pearl recently and-WOW-I felt like I was on a cruise…read moreship! The place has a very bright and open feel. There are television screens scattered about the commons areas with various events and activities to choose from on a daily basis such as various exercise programs, (multiple excercise facilities), group walks around the neighborhood, group outings to local restaurants in the area, films shown in the television room, bridge, art classes in the art room etc. The food is absolutely fabulous. (I saw grilled octopus on the menu.) The executive chef even came out to introduce himself to me. That tells me he is proud of the product he puts out. I could see living there for the food alone. There are multiple restaurants and a bar at Watermark. The staff I've met are all very professional, courteous and friendly, and Erin, who gave us the lay of the place, is top notch. Tom W.

" Bait-and-Switch" Care Level Upsells Families frequently file localized lawsuits over sudden, aggressive hikes in monthly "ancillary fees" or "level of care" charges. * The Issue: A resident moves in at a stable monthly rate, but the facility quickly escalates their required "care tier" level based on internal, subjective assessments, adding thousands of dollars in unexpected monthly charges. * The Outcome: Success in these cases relies on checking if the facility's internal charting actually justifies the increased care. When families audit the records and prove the facility did not provide the extra hours billed for, judges routinely order fee rollbacks and restitution.

From the moment you walk in the door you feel the warm atmosphere as you are greeted by staff and begin to see and hear and smell the things which contribute to the culture of this facility. The staff obviously share a common mission, purpose, goals and truly care not only for the residents, but for families and for each other. The facility is always sparkling clean no matter what time of day you arrive you find your family member and their surroundings fresh, clean, neat and tidy. In addition there is a lovely secure outdoor area (seasonably available) with a lovely gazebo, which can be accessed from the living room and it is a lovely place for families to visit with their resident. I have witnessed many residents enjoying this area last summer and my mother in law especially enjoyed this area. My mom is so much more content, she's more talkative and cheerful, and she's healthier now than she's been for the past few years (I think it's because the food they prepare is so fresh and healthy). Miriam the nurse is so attentive and caring and Raluca really understands the needs of her residents. The whole staff is so helpful and kind. It just feels positive there - it's always extremely clean, it smells good, and all the residents seem calm and happy. I couldn't recommend it more highly!

My brother and other family live in Portland and my mother wanted a change in scenery and to live in a a Jewish facility. She is able to pay the full price. Her level of care at her current facility is far below what places like this offer. My brother and myself toured the facility. We met with the folks that run it. Once my mother decided she wanted to make the move we invited Rose Schnitzer Manor to contact my mother's current facility. The management of where she is now said it is common and traditional for assisted living facilities to talk to one another when a resident is looking to move. We set had her doctor provide all of the required medical records. We set up a Zoom call assessment for my mother. The week after the Zoom call we were told that the management of Rose Schnitzer Manor had concerns that my mother needed more care than they could provide. They listed two specific reasons. We countered that both of those reasons were incorrect and explained that her current facility was not providing those services. We arranged a care meeting at her current facility and had them update her care plan. We forwarded this plan to Rose Schnitzer Manor and again invited them to contact the management of her current facility. A few days my brother received a denial from them explaining that they could not accept her. The letter was offensive at best. They made huge assumptions that they had no business making. They doubled down on not being able to do what she needs even though she does not need the services they cannot provide. They said that they felt the move from California to Portland would be too stressful for her without having any evidence of this or the expertise to declare this. They were worried that after a time there she may need more care than they could provide. Yes, I am sure many older residents of facilities such as this may at some point need more care and when they do they move to a skilled nursing facility. Not sure how this was relevant. And they never contacted her current facility. My brother wrote a thoughtful email to Rose Schnitzer Manor explaining that we felt this decision was not warranted. We asked that they reconsider. That email was sent two months ago. They never even had the courtesy to respond. Every professional in the assisted living field that we have told this story to, both in Oregon and California, are baffled by their behavior, lack of response and decision to not take our mother. Shameful.

So i got a request on a pickup, upon arriving he was in a wheel chair... they requested a rideshare! not a specialty wheel chair accessible ride for him, He said he didn't want to be late so i helped him in my small compact car and put his wheel chair away, Lady nurse that was there to send him off was on the phone not even helping, waved me off no nurse accompanied us to help him at his appt, we go on to his dental appt, Upon arriving in the middle of downtown Portland for his appt in 12th story building what do they expect me to do just drop him off in the sidewalk middle of downtown and leave?? I called the dentist office and asked if they had a nurse or someone to help us get him up to his appt, waited for them to show up and boy was my blood boiling seeing how he was treated, He's a world war veteran! hurt my heart just seeing that. Mosche you deserved better and hope someone from your family will see this.
